Guest Reviews
- Greg (10/5): - Fantastic. Great food, clean as a whistle. Pub downstairs fun and staff so friendly. Highly recommended
- Stacey (4/5): - The price is exactly what you get…
Windows don’t open so no fresh air at all,so stale air is what you walk into. And sleep in.
The room was clean, service was nice.
Great atmosphere in the pub area.
- Wayne (8/5): - Convenience
- Tara (8/5): - Stayed for one night, would definitely recommend for a short stay - cheap and clean and was pleasantly surprised by how nice the room was! Slept like a log.
- Nigel (10/5): - A classic aussie pub stay. Really lovely staff and the ensuite room was really great value at just $90 for two. A terrific Thai restaurant in-house with a wide range of well-priced and fresh and tasty meals. A fun place to stay to explore Tumut.
- Peter (6/5): - The fridge freezer section was chock-a-bloc with ice and the electrical kettle did not work properly. All other appliances worked well. The room was well presented, quiet and secure.
- Rick (6/5): - Old small double bed above the bar, spotlight shining directly at window , carpet old and stained, creaky floorboards and the bed was a tiny double with a horribly old mattress needs full update
- Petr (8/5): - Car park is small and shared with forklifts and delivery trucks for bottle shop. I found a minor dent in my car several hours after I left Tumut which could only have happened in the car park.
- Naomi (8/5): - Great convenient location, and just up from the Chinese Restaurant (Thai was closed being a public holiday). Just a heads up that check in hours change on public holidays and they didn't advertise this on lastminute.com.au and I was only told via phone call half an hour before check in closed and I was still 2 hrs away! Good facilities and easy parking.
- turan (8/5): - Great location and very quiet in the evening
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Large old style clean pub room with ensuite. First floor, stair access only. Right on the main street, handy to everything, easy off street parking.
- Donald (8/5): - As good as you will get in Tumut
- Leah (8/5): - Lovely staff and good Thai restaurant. Good for a quick stop over to rest. Comfortable and safe.
- Fabian (6/5): - Good location and easy parking.
Good price but still, could do with a better quality clean. Bathroom shower did not look like was cleaned from last guest and overall doesn't feel clean. Maybe a little basic refurb and a lick of paint would really help improve appearance and a very good clean.
But for one night was ok.
- Kel (6/5): - I’m k for the price, but carpet is dirty
- Jahaan (8/5): Cheap and cheerful - The reception/bartender was welcoming and informative. The building is old and basic but comfortable enough for a sleep to break up a 10 hour drive.
It's a cheap and simple place to stay.
The on site Thai restaurant serves fantastic food and the pub itself provides a variety of beverages to choose from.
- Bruce (4/5): - Listed as a Hotel Motel...but it definitely didn't fit this catergory.
- Cassie (8/5): - Nice and quiet easy access parking
- Promesh (6/5): - Needs Renovations
- Andrew (8/5): A very good basic hotel - with a few extras - This is a good hotel for a fair price. The included breakfast is not something that you’re going to get fat on(!), but it was still a good thing to have.
The bed in our room was surprisingly comfortable. I had one of my best nights’ sleep in a very long time.
The linen on the bed was good. However, the condition of the towels was a bit lacking. Still, for the price of the room, I’m not complaining too much.
The decor is okay but nothing fancy. Again, it’s the bathroom where things are not the best they could be. And again, for the price, I can’t complain too much.
When writing a review, I always ask myself if I would stay here again. For this hotel, my answer is yes.
- Alevtina (6/5): - it’s need upgrades and linens were dirty . But staff was very lovely
- Jennifer (8/5): - Good location with easy off street parking. The room was really spacious and the beds were very comfortable.
The shower was one of the best I have experienced in accommodation lately.
The only downside I could find was the utensils were a bit tired, the jug to fill the kettle was broken, cutlery was a bit light on. Also, it was a bit odd that there was a toaster, butter and spreads provided with the cereal for breakfast, but no bread…
- Peter (4/5): - No continental breakfast supplied, the room and bathroom were grubby and the beds were uncomfortable. We booked and paid for 2 nights but left after 1. A lack of customer service. Would not recommend.
- Andrew (8/5): Cheap and cheerful - Room was tired but large and away from the busy part of the hotel. Everything you need for a value for money stay.
- Arie van (6/5): - The restaurant and food, delicious.
The older lady who booked us in was excellent. Couldn’t be more helpful or polite.
The air conditioning outdated and didn’t work properly. The room hadn’t been serviced correctly. Also the room was advertised as a queen bed, but was a double bed.
- Sean (10/5): - no issue, nice and cheap and easy
- Cara (8/5): - The room is spacious, shower was great and staff were friendly and helpful and it was centrally located
- Anthony (8/5): - The thai restaurant is excellent
- SRINIVASAN (10/5): - FRIENDLY & COURTEOUS STAFF
- O5051ZZlisaw (4/5): Eat Yes Stay No - Booked motel room and got hotel room upstairs (heavy bag). Described as ‘Straightforward lodging offering free breakfast & Wi-Fi, plus a Thai restaurant & a bar.’ Breakfast was two packets of cereal, milk & oj No wifi! Window wouldn’t shut and music/karioke loud and late. Mattress definitely passed use by date. Bedding had holes, towels were frayed and bathroom shelf coming off the wall.
However Thai restaurant was great and genuine so all was not lost.
- David (8/5): - Was OK for the price
- leigh (8/5): - Nice old pub with big room and clean bathroom. Very comfy bed
- Peter (10/5): - Easy check in. Great staff
- Teresa (8/5): - Off street parking, staff helpful and friendly, room comfortable, fluffy towels.
Breakfast included (forgot bread), porridge, juice and coffee. Central location.
- michael (6/5): OK but average - Noisy for a half hour after the pub closed after eleven. No wifi. Room had seen much better days.
- Julie (8/5): - Pub room with an ensuite 👍
- Ross (8/5): - A nice pub with motel style rooms. Would have liked access to the balcony.
- Laurine (10/5): - An old country pub with good modern facilities, included continental breakfast, and VERY good value for money.
- Rosamma (10/5): - It was good
- peter (2/5): - the room stank of cigarettes, TV did not work and have to fill jug from the overhead shower to have a cup of tea
- jo (8/5): Commervial Hotel Tumut - The pub is old and has history. Probably has not been renovated for years, but thats to be expected. Great Staff. They were very thorough with the qr code checkins.
The room was clean, and there was a little breakfast left for us.
It was all that we needed on our stay in Tumut.
- Shawn (8/5): - Nice big room. Room was clean. Basic accommodation but good value for money
- Stephen (6/5): - Great central location in town. Wonderful hot showers. Bed in serious need of replacement, it sagged in the middle and was bouncy like a trampoline. The quality and quantity of the included breakfast was poor.
- Michael (6/5): - Friendly staff that were most helpful and friendly
- John (10/5): - Loved it food and staff were fantastic
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Overall staff were friendly, atmosphere was good and room was ok
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Although basic the room and amenities were clean.
- James (8/5): Family trip - Nice hotel to stay , right in town good food in restaurants. Cold beer.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The Thai food in the restaurant was excellent. There was also great live music in the bar but I had work to do and the internet was down
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Close to everything
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice upstair room. The on suit toilet is a bonus.
- justenef (8/5): Great pub, fantastic staff, awesome accommodation - This pub is a must visit if you are in Tumut. Great atmosphere, Casey and Austin were fantastic in the bar. Rooms are very affordable, clean and comfortable. Definitely will return. Two thumbs up. Highly recommend
- Timothy (10/5): Great atmosphere and very friendly staff - You can’t go past the value and convenience of the Commercial and the Thai kitchen is a nice treat for dinner
- Julie (10/5): - Great location and comfortable beds... nice surprise to see we had own bathroom
- Lisa (6/5): - Classic country pub accommodation which we did enjoy for what it is. Price reflects attention to detail - windows dirty, cracked and cobwebby for example.
- DDSWM (2/5): Reasonable price.. though a disgusting place to stay - Stayed here two nights in October 2020. Room 1. As others have mentioned the spotlight shining in the window. The soggy bread one morning and no bread available the next morning. Moths and bugs coming in the holes in the window frame. Filthy carpet, mold in the bathroom and paints coming off the walls. Spider webs all over the window .. no way of opening the window for fresh air. Double bed (supposed to be a Queen). The positives are clean sheets, fluffy towels, a good shower and the AC worked well and very quiet. Be sure not to pack too many clothes as the stairs getting to the rooms are steep. Though the positives come nowhere near the negatives. It definitely has old world charm until you enter the room. Paid too much money for this standard of 1.5 stars at best.
- craig (10/5): - Very convenient location , clean and tidy. Will back for sure
- mark (10/5): - Right in the heart of town close to all the tourist attractions
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Old style room but didn’t feel clean
Advertised continental Breakfast Included 2 small cereal and milk left in fridge with juice and if you want toast you need to speak to bar staff
- jewelm810 (10/5): October fest in Tumut - Book a double room at the Commercial hotel in Tumut... fantastic friendly staff... spacious room with en-suite with the hugest shower ever ... complimentary breakfast ... plenty of tea and coffee in the room ... bar fridge with individual bottles of juice and milk .... Resturant on site .. on site well lit parking.. all right in the centre of town.
- B2667LRanthonyc (8/5): Thankyou staff at the Commercial Hotel! - We only stayed the one night but it was a pleasant stay. The staff were friendly and efficient. The Thai dinner was really good and good value for money.
The room was clean and well presented.
Breakfast was provided in our room.
It was in the centre of town which was convenient.
I would recommend my friends to stay there.
- Frazzle35 (8/5): Comfortable and good value. - My room had Comfortable double bed, new split system air con and good shower.
These are dated rooms but clean, comfortable, good size and value.
Carpets could be replaced. TV reception needs work, a few channels drop in and out.
You get a couple of slices of bread to toast for breakfast in your room with, as well as a juice, cerial, coffee (international roast), tea and long life milk.
Nice size pub downstairs and a great Thai restaurant (closed Monday's). Pokies, 1 x pool table and a coin laundromat (great for travelling worker) out the back. There is also a drive through bottle shop and free on site parking out the back.
- James_Francis66 (6/5): Good honest pub - Stayed here on a Sunday night, free parking is their car lot. Bottle shop closes at 7pm on a Sunday so buy early if you must. Cool thing was they had a laundromat and as I’d been traveling it was good to do a mid holiday wash.
The bar is like any other pub in Australia so nothing new here. No pub food as it’s a Thai restaurant, I had three entrees instead of a main, two were great the other not so (fish cakes were like dough). My room number 1 was good, clean, roomy, bathroom clean, Ac worked a treat. There is a flood light that shines into the room but it was ok. Linen was clean and the bed comfortable. My only grip and it’s minor, breakfast was included in the price. As I was traveling on a motorcycle I look forward to a good breakfast and miss lunch, so was surprised to find breakfast in the fridge consisting of cornflakes and OJ. So I went to maccas down the road instead. Would I stay again, yes I would, great budget accommodation, good one guys!
- jonw344 (4/5): Staff training needed! - Hmm,train your staff people .i stayed here on a sunday night in my way through to the snowys and liked it so i decided to stay there again kn my way home 2 days later.i wish i hadnt! The guy who served me was friendley enough but as soon as he started to serve me the phone in the bar rang and he took the call and kept me waiting for 10 miinutes and what appeared to be a personal call.wrong wrong wrong ! I nearly walked out ,he then gold me it was the bosses wife! I wonder if she knew he had paying customers waiting ! And to add unsult he whacked me another $10 more than i got charged 2 nights ago.i was doing a recon for a social group to oganise a trip in a few months so i would have filled all tbeir rooms for 3 nights and needed meals etc.definatly wont stay here again
- stickydate2016 (8/5): Good Value Great Location - Stayed here for 2 nights to attend a show at the Montreal Theatre( just across the road)
Generous size room. Clean. Jug and Toster supplied but BYO bread! Cereal and juice supplied for breakfast. Nice and quite with excellent heating. Would definitely stay again.
- georginaw721 (8/5): Great room - Room was a good size and well priced, clean. The restaurant was fantastic. Made a reservation for me which had a good atmosphereI. I ordered the soft shell crab curry and enjoyed it. The proportion was just right.
- Kazsam2013 (6/5): Large clean room - Centrally located with plenty of places to eat in easy walking distance. Room was good size and enjoyed having the continental breakfast provided in the in-room fridge. A little noisy with traffic and other residents, but no complaints overall. Good sized bathroom, queen bed rather than double would have got an extra point.
- BobFk (8/5): Clean & Tidy and affordable. - Right in the center of town. Walk to everything. Good value for the traveler who just needs a good nights sleep. Will stay here again on our next trip. Off street parking in the hotel car park. Upstairs may be problematic for some
