Guest Reviews
- Ben Langham (7/5): - fantastic hostel. great staff. the owner was incredibly helpful and happy to help with anything you needed. even better location. good fun at the rooftop bar. hot showers yay! paper thin walls as stated on previous reviews. I'd highly recommend to the hostel owner to provide earplugs to avoid more negative reviews on this.
bed to bathroom ratio was so limited. 2 showers in the whole hostel.

- Terry (9/5): Good Central location with friendly hosts - Central location, pleasant, helpful place, kitchen. Price/comfort good Rooftop karaoke (bit harsh on the ears) but didn't go on too late!
- Carina (8/5): Jederzeit wieder - Super Preis-Lesitungsverhältnis, einfaches Check-in/-out.
- Rochelle (8/5): Good place to crash for a night before our trek from Xela to Lake Atitlan. - Clean basic hostel good for one night stay. Excellent location. Rooms were sort of all over the place and our group was not close to each other.
- Maurice (10/5): - Great rooftop terrace, good location and really knowledgeable host.
- Charles (8/5): Great price services ratio - Great location and good service before even present in the hostel (Tom the owner replies super fast to all the questions) friendly and helpful staff The bar attract some strange people and the cleaning could be better
- Kaya (9/5): - - Gut ausgestattete Küche
- bieten Shuttle Service - Betten recht unbequem
Saubere Badezimmer. Steckdosen in Bettnähe. Sehr gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis und gute Lage.
Nette Küche oben.

- Mette Kirstine (8/5): - Well located and comfortable budget accommodation
No frills accommodation but everything works and it’s a good atmosphere to spend a few days here
Kitchen facilities to cook own meals
Very hospitable and helpful owners
360 view of xela and surrounding from the roof terrace It gets a bit noisy some evenings at their bar but it closes fairly early so it’s just a couple of hours
- Felix (9/5): -
- Laurin (9/5): -
- Olivia (2/5): - Good stay in terms of comfort and location Every night I was here before and after my trek there was a party happening with INSANELY loud music. Could not get a good night sleep. Considering most people here are going to a hike, it was ridiculous how loud the music was.
- Jose Eduardo (10/5): - The hostel is a really good option to stay if you do not want to spend too much money, the room I stayed was shared with about 8 more people, but it does not feel uncomfortable, they even let me park my bike inside. They only have the option to pay with cash.

- Urban (10/5): - I can't stop praising this place – truly an amazing hostel, practically in the center of town! Everything was great. The staff are wonderful and always available if you need anything. The owner, Tom, is incredibly kind, communicative, and full of helpful travel advice. You can really tell he cares about the guests and wants everyone to have a good experience.
Highly recommended – one of the best hostels we've stayed at in Guatemala!
- Felipe (8/5): -
- RODRIGO (4/5): -
- Gloria (8/5): Classic, clean and pleasant hostel, great host! - Kasa Kiwi is a delightful, classic hostel. The owner/host, Tom, was very helpful, and if you are an English speaker you'll appreciate the ease of communicating (all-Spanish is typical). Very clean and well run. Nice!
- Eliane (8/5): Great value for money - For the price, this was great. Really helpful, Friendly owners who organised excursions for others and gave advice about transport. I actually got a double bed in my dorm room which was comfortable. Bathroom facilities were outside downstairs and basic but clean. Social vibe and great location in Xela. The hostel looks like it hasn’t been decorated or any items replaced in about 30/40 years. However, this doesn’t matter much. Karaoke was extremely loud and put some of us off from going to the bar but finished by 10. The room was noisy but I soon realised that every central location in Xela is the same!
- Ehud (8/5): Very good -
- Hadas (10/5): Exceptional - The staff is 10/10!! Tom and liz are so helpful with anything you might need, and made us feel super welcome. The bar at the hostel is super cool, mostly locals so you really get to feel the atmosphere of the place. Beds were comfy, kitchen is great, everything is kept super clean. Great location. Only thing is you should know that some of the dorm rooms don't have a bathroom and the bathroom is on the other floor.
Other than that the place is perfect!
- Alex (7/5): Good -
- Allyson (7/5): Good - Showers were great! Bed was comfy! Location was amazing, and they were communicative and helpful.
The kitchenware, specifically to cook with was not in good condition at all. The water filters were so slow that most of us had to just go buy water instead of being able to fill up with the filtered water.
I really struggled with a lack of communal space to hang out. There’s a rooftop but it doesn’t have comfortable seating at all- none of the chairs have backs really. I couldn’t find anywhere to relax to read or just chill. Hammocks or lounge type chairs would be a great addition!
- Joshua (8/5): Good affordable place to base yourself to do trekking - Decent, clean, comfortable, good central location. Zero soundproofing
- Michell (10/5): Cozy - The closeness of the place to the historical center of the city was really convenient and useful Nothing
- Sam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wes (7/5): Good -
- Karina (9/5): Perfect hostel to stay in Xela - Beautiful hostel, with comfortable rooms, a kitchen to use, amazing rooftop terrace, in an excellent location, close to the centre and also to nature.
- Rachel (9/5): Great energy, great value hostel - Comfortable rooms/bed, great vibe, friendly/attentive staff, kitchen, hot water, social atmosphere with other travelers, tom is super helpful and even helped another traveler figure out their travel plans! Bathroom situation is a little weird, only one sink with mirror, location could get a little loud in the morning, some times the kitchen was a bit crowded
- Hannah (7/5): Good location and spacious - Spacious rooms, good roof terrace, helpful sightseeing info & perfect location for town centre. Facilities are basic but you get what you pay for. Very clean and staff friendly. A good base
- The (7/5): Good - It was exactly what it said. Absolutely fine and well organised. A very noisy corner in the morning, but nothing unusual for a Guatemalan city.
- Louise (7/5): Good -
- Remi (8/5): Very good -
- Mariana (8/5): Very good -
- Birgit (7/5): Decent and basic. Has the potential to be much better. - The kitchen is nice (but would be nice to equip with some basics such as oil).
Dorm is spacious with plugs and tables/cupboards for each bed.
Atmosphere is nice.
Good location.
Hosts are nice (but often not present). Potential for improvement:
- Beds are not very comfy
- Electric showers are not great (good water pressure or heat but not both)
- Water filter is very slow
- Lots of noise from the bar whereas most guest get up early to hike
- Make more of an effort to link solo travellers as all tours require a minimum of 2 people, easy fix: create a whatsapp group for the guests.
- An indoor common area would be nice.
- Ariel (6/5): Pleasant -
- Diede (8/5): Very good - Great location, clean place and nice rooftop terrace. This place is a bit noisy, so bring earplugs. The shower/toilets are outside, which would be good to know. For me both these things were not a problem.
- Charlotte (9/5): Superb - -Private room with private bathroom was huge
-Kitchen and free refill water
-Location is great for Xela (near to the square) - Tours can only go ahead with minimum 2 people booking (I was solo travelling so couldn't do any)
- Noisy on a night (but only until about 22:00) when they have karaoke in the bar upstairs (Tuesday night)
- Molly (9/5): Superb -
- Alessandro (7/5): God base in the city - Location and place in general are good. Works well as a base for other trips. Check Quetzaltrekkers Might be noisy at night due to the people in the kitchen.
- Ashley (8/5): Very good - Helpful staff and rooms are arranged in a way to easily meet new people. Plenty of hikes!
- Leah (5/5): Passable -
- A123124 (7/5): Good value, but a little noisy - Very friendly staff, location is great, close to cafes, food stalls, restuants and bars, plus rooftop has a great view. Private rooms are good value for money. Noise, you can hear everything from the room, the music at the rooftop bar till 9/10pm, people leaving early or packing their things for hikes right outside your room. It gets quiet again by 6/7am, but if you need a good sleep before a big hike, you might get a better sleep somewhere else.
Just to note, toilets and showers may not be on your room level.
- Eline22 (10/5): Great stay! - Great hostel, super helpful and friendly owner and staff, comfortable bed, Clean, easy to meet people and organize activities Nothing
- Ashley (9/5): Superb -
- Verena (8/5): Good - Good spacious rooms, great location and good price There were only a few showers
- Van (8/5): Nice comfortable place, in a great location, and provides shuttle and trip out services. - We stayed in a garden view private room. It was a really comfortable stay. I liked the rooftop area and bar. Traveling with my partner it was a great budget room. The hostel seems like it's a good place for solo travelers too that are interested in meeting new people. The hostel also accommodates shuttles and outings. The location is fun and close to many restaurants, the park, and bars, but did not give off a huge party scene.
- Kisa (8/5): Great option for Xela - Kasa Kiwi is in a great location
to get around Xela. The rooms are simple but comfy and the shared spaces are clean. The staff
is super helpful.
- Shimara (8/5): Very good - The socializing in the kitchen. It’s a good kitchen aswell. Spacious rooms. Good location. Detailed informations what you can do in Xela and how. Friendly people. Good view at the rooftop terrace. My room didn’t had a bathroom/toilet. So for us we had to get outside. And it can be very rainy. On the day is not much of an issue, at night I would like it to have. It was not clear to me that it’s on the pictures with a symbol which mentioned which rooms do have a toilet and which do not.
- Kinbarra (7/5): Good cheap stay before starting a hike - Big room and big beds - no bunk beds which was nice. Only stayed for one night before a 3 day trek so didn't get to see all of the hostels facitlitiies. Only 2 showers and quite basic
- Veronica (10/5): Would definitely stay aain - Great little hostel. Nice rooms, decent kitchen, friendly people and lots of tours available from the hostel. Would definitely stay again n/a
- Portillo (9/5): Best place to stay in Xela, owner it’s a great person, staff is very friendly and make you feel like home, definitely I’ - Friendly staff and good place to stay
- Eline22 (9/5): Nice stay - Friendly and clean hostel, nicely located, easy to meet people
- Karlotta (10/5): We loved Kasa Kiwi, it is absolutely worth the money and we can only recommend it to all backpackers/ travelers to b - The Kasa Kiwi is very good located. The roof terrace is nice and the rooms are big. There are no bunk beds, so no one has to climb the ladder, what I loved.
Wifi is really good.
We went on several hikes (Laguna Chikabal and Volcano Santa Maria). There is great information provided, also about where to start walking and how to get around by chicken bus! Thank you Tom for helping us planning our trips! All the staff was very friendly.
The kitchen is well equipped. There are lockers next to reception. There was a fun karaoke night at the roof terrace.
- Clifford (7/5): Good -
- Ellie (8/5): Lovely place to stay in xela - Really lovely hostel in the centre of Xela. The owners were so helpful and welcoming; they took the time to explain all the tours and offer advice on the best things to do. A social vibe with plenty of other travellers to chat to and the roof terrace was a good place to chill in the day! The kitchen is very small for the size of the property, not a huge issue but there was a bit of wait for the hob.
- Oscar (4/5): Everything was clean, but the whole place needs renovation. - the location was good. basically all equipment, furniture, facilities and rooms were old and are in desperate need of renovation. The floors were dirty due to age, but were cleaned by the staff. We had a room for ourselves and it was like 4 square meters without closet.
Our experience wasn’t great, but it was not bad. It was just not what we thought it would be, and maybe more suited for people that have a very low budget to spend while traveling.
- Marie-eve (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing stay, location is perfect!
- Morgan (8/5): Very good -
- Iga (8/5): Very good - Super helpful staff. Lack of sinks to brush your teeth or wash your face (except one in the toilet and in the kitchen).
- Amanda (7/5): Good - -No bunk beds in dorms
-Good location
-Easy to book day trips and shuttles
-Very affordable Only two showers and toilets for everyone in the dorms. These could also only be accessed by leaving your dorm and walking downstairs outside which was a bit annoying as Xela gets quite chilly at night.
- Katharina (8/5): Very good - The hostel is close to most attractions within the centre of Xela and you can reach everything by foot. Clean and nicely equipped kitchen, big and comfy beds, hot showers (if you know how to turn them 😉). Rooftop terrace is pretty cool and you can order nice food at reasonable prices. All in all an awesome hostel for such a great price! Really noisy city and the windows cant hold back the sounds from outside. I could barely sleep while i stayed, even with Oropax. And maybe small lamps for every bed would be nice, or maybe curtains im the dorms? The available lights in the room were bright as the sun
- Evan (9/5): Superb - Common spaces.
- Kimberley (9/5): Excellent value for exploring Xela and hiking. - Bed in dorm very comfortable. Tom VERY helpful and kind.
Proximity to El Centro. Road traffic but absolutely nothing you can do about it. It’s is what it is.
- Saccà (9/5): Superb -
- Hannah (7/5): Good - Good kitchen. Relatively affordable price. The room was filthy, dirty everywhere like it hadn't been properly cleaned. 2 bathrooms was insufficient. It has a bar that is open to the public and the access to this bar passes next to the toilets/showers. Drunk guests leaving the bar were harassing me whilst I was trying to use the bathroom facilities. This made me very uncomfortable as I was in my pyjamas having random drunk men calling things out to me.
- Sarinda (9/5): Superb - Really good location, cosy room, great roof terrace and staff were all so friendly and helpful. Lots of information and tours on offer. Lots of tours and shuttles available but also give you information on how to do these things on your own if you don’t want to book tours which is great Kitchen was a little small for number of people at the hostel
- Sven (7/5): Unless you don’t find anything else - stay here - Free water refills and a beautiful terrace. Good tour informations and information about Xela. Only two toilettes and one sink for over 20 people (thats all that the property has for all their room capacities). It is very loud, since it is on a busy street and you hear all guests coming in an out at at different hours at night.
The matress in the double room is old and uncomfortable. The walls are very thin, so that you can hear even a sneeze from the neighbors. It is definitely not the place to stay if you want to rest and be able to sleep. We had to sleep with earplugs.
- Christiane (8/5): Good time - All the outdoors places, the cleanless, the personal, the breakfast, the fan in the room The cost (a little bit expensive), the lack of tablets in the room
- Stef (8/5): Very good - Helpful and friendly staff , central location, lockers available, rooftop terrace with bar , fair price for the hostel The room next to the entrance is very noisy due to the street right next to it
- Linette (7/5): Good -
- Kimberley (10/5): I really liked staying here. The guests during my stay in the dorm room were very respectful. - Location was excellent, very close to El Centro. The bathrooms were also very clean.
The kitchen was also clean.
My bed area was spotless. Having to rent a towel. I would perfer for the cost to already be in the price for the room. But I do understand that many hostel users, probably already have their own towel.
- Tim (9/5): A lovely place to stay in Xela - Lovely friendly staff, hot showers, well stocked kitchen and a large roof top area with a bar.
- Belinda (8/5): Very good - Nice kitchen. Cool roof top bar to hang out. Also private rooms available. Only Spanish speaking staff. Not many showers, toiletts.
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- Nate (9/5): Superb - Good location close to good street food, amazing big lockers which are very hard to find especially when traveling with laptop. Nice rooftop patio to relax on and to hang laundry
- Audrey (5/5): Passable - The location was good, close to the center.
The rooftop is nice. Dorm was very loud because of the street, also we had the air pollution from the street in the dorm.
Sanitary and showers were not clean. Difficult to have hot water.
The receptionist asked me Q25 for a towel which is too much (I paid Q5 in Antigua few days later).
- Ian (9/5): Superb -
- Arnold (7/5): Good - the place is nice, supercool terrace, very friendly owner Tom helps u with everything especially goid info about possible treks, dorm has 10 single beds! doorm was next to the superbusy street, if u dont have a deep sleep go somewhere else! staff told me that i have to checkout the next day even when i told the owner before i wanna stay a few more days, not a nice experience also cause i planed a hike for the next morning!
- Rem (8/5): Perfect place to meet people and discover Xela. Great staff who help you with everything! - Great location, very friendly staff, great value for money! Don’t expect luxury.
- Iris (8/5): Nice place to stay in Xela - Great and close location to the main square and market. Helpfull and nice staff. Good kitchen. Nice terrace. All was good.
- Johanna (10/5): Exceptional - I got recommended that hostel and I was very happy to stay there - People who worked there were so helpful and both staff and hostel guests were very nice, I liked that you have separate beds instead of bunk beds
- Caroline (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vivian (8/5): Very good -
- Baima (6/5): Pleasant - The position is close to everything in the centre The room was stinky and a little dirty
