Guest Reviews
- Marek (10/5): - This is a traditional stay, meaning you will sleep on a thin mattress on top of tatami mats on the floor. I’m 40 and it was okay for a couple of nights. I didn’t mind.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Also keep in mind that the showers are shared, no individual stalls.
There are great Cafes and restaurants around
- DAVID (10/5): - Nice staff
- Ferit (10/5): - Mysig ryokan intill en glamping. Nära till naturen och lugn närmiljö.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Sjov oplevelse, men én nat havde været nok - Sjovt at prøve en traditionel ryokan, men én overnatning havde været fin.
- Paulette (10/5): - Beautiful surroundings
- Kazumi (6/5): - Basically, you get what you paid for, but friendly staff makes everything better. Recommend to add breakfast. You will get good servings!
- Saray (10/5): - Staff was extremely nice and helpful, they give you a pamphlet on things to do. Bikes on site to rent ,a bar right outside. Air conditioning, and shared bath is nice. In a beautiful area and perfect view of Fuji. A definite recommendation for anyone who wants to see the area of mt. Fuji!
- Isaiah (10/5): - Wonderful place to stay !!
- Allan (6/5): - The property was ok. Definitely the property is really clean and people are really friendly. The only bad thing is if you have never slept in a futon bed don't go here. Japon demands a lot of walking so the last thing you want to do is go to sleep in a futon bed after walking for like for a while. The rest was good. You can see the mountain from the hotel.
- Jonathan (8/5): Traditional hostel. Food available. - Wonderful hosts. A bit like a hostel. Across road from awesome bakery. Glamping tents and caravans available. Shared toilets. Shared onsen bathrooms.
- Lance (8/5): Ok for one night - We did a one night stay at the hotel, which was enough. The hotel and staff are overall nice, but the building has seen better days. The room was small and the futon was very thin so it wasn't a pleasant sleep unfortunately. The onsen is small but nice.
The glamping part looked nice though.
- Fazuly (10/5): Good for a Family vacation - Beautiful place. Just 500-600m walk to Lake Yamanakako. You can see Mt Fuji clearly on your walk back.
- Toui (10/5): - Wonderful hosts and nice accommodations for price!
- David (8/5): - A decent place to stay a night!
- Syed (10/5): - Great staff
- Alex (10/5): The best experience - If you are looking for a traditional Japanese experience and a beautiful view of Mount Fuji, this is the place.
- Chee Kiong (10/5): - Love the view of Mount Fuji from certain rooms and at the ryokan compound on a clear day. A little tricky getting to place using navigation online map but you will get there eventually. Breakfast is value for money. Great service.
- Doron (10/5): - Great place staff people are extra very nice highly recommend
- Michelle (10/5): - It was a nice and quite stay. It's in a great location too. We were not used the public restrooms but there was instructions so that made it easier. The staff was very nice and patient with us as we tried to commicate. The breakfast was amazing. Definitely a grat stay.
- azmal (10/5): - Breakfast is a must. Walkable from the lake and very helpful staff.
- STICK RICHAR (10/5): - Very nice family own hostel. The breakfast was very great and very fulfilling.
- Lucas (2/5): - Could not stay. Manager had not been seen all week. Bathrooms are public and open during certain times only
- Verified traveler (4/5): -
- John (10/5): - The staff was wonderful to work with. They helped us with our luggage transfer and made us feel like we were a true guest in their home. I can't recommend this enough and the area around Lake Yamanaka is fantastic. I sure hope to return someday.
- John (10/5): - See my other review of this wonderful property
- Yilmaz (2/5): Nicht Empfehlenswert!! - Hostel mit Gemeinschaftsbad. Nur zu bestimmten Zeiten Duschen!!!:( Preis-Leistung Miserabel!!!! Wucher!!
- Hung Chang (6/5): - The bathroom and washroom are shared, the room is old, and the service is very good
- Christy Belle (10/5): - I loved the bath. It was so hot and steamy. The traditional Japanese rooms were exactly what I was looking for for my stay in Japan. As we were leaving, the sweet host gave us hot tea to warm our hands on our cold walk to the bud station. When I got to the bus the station, I realized I left my hat. All of a sudden I see her drive up to the station and give it to me. Excellent Japanese hospitality
- Henry (10/5): - I booked this place entirely by accident, but I’m so glad I did! Yamanakako is a gorgeous place! Everyone there I met was super nice. The Ryokan itself was amazing in its own right too. Very nice sized room, great amenities. The bath was exquisite. Truly a jem.
- Natasha (6/5): - The older lady running it spoke no english but was so helpful and kind to us. We would stay again.
- Tina (8/5): - Traditional Japanese room, very nice owner but a bit further from the bus stop if you take public transportation.
- Martin (10/5): Fuji fabulous - The Ryokan was an excellent introduction to traditional Japanese hospitality, although it wasn’t obvious to find! Beautiful and interesting location. Lovely, helpful staff and incredible breakfast and general welcome. A great experience. We loved the atmosphere and the Yukata robes. The lake is lovely and there are lots of restaurants and thing a to do nearby.
- Lara (10/5): - It is a bit far from the bus stop but the area is beautiful and peaceful. Nice to walk around. The owner, a kind older woman, is very sweet and communicative despite us not speaking a lot of Japanese. The indoor onsen was small but because there were not a lot of visitors we were able to take advantage of it as if it was a private onsen.
- Jesus (10/5): - PROS:
The property is clean and neat. The staff was also super sweet and helpful, they did not speak a word of English but managed to guide me through everything, very patient. I stayed at the old school japanese style room with tatami floor, very comfortable and unique. There is a vending machine right by the entrance so thats also good if you get thirsty in the middle of the night. I liked the bathouse even though it was public for all the guests.
Cons:
The property is far off the main roads and combini (this could be a pro if you like peace and quiet), so if you want to grab a quick bite at the nearest 7 eleven, good luck
taking a 20 minute walk back and forth.
Not having AC (at the old style room) could be a problem during the summer, I went in spring and it gets chilly at night, I dont know about the summer.
Some people might not enjoy the public guest bathroom, but I did not mind bathing alongside other people, this is Japan for godsake, the onsen country LOL.
Thats pretty much it, I definetly recommend this property but be mindful of the distance between stations. Overall, 10/10
- Firas (10/5): - Amazing authentic Japanese style stay. Amazing staff
- Maritza (6/5): - I would not stay here again
- Ben (10/5): - Very polite, excellent unique Japanese experience
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The staff said because they had too few customers they only opened the men bathroom water to take a shower. Regardless of females or male customers. Disappointing
- Verified traveler (4/5): -
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- Robert (10/5): - nice place. very considerate multi-lingual owner. spacious common areas and clean rooms. very quiet. views of Mt. Fuji
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Traditional Japanese room was a plus. Host was very kind and helpful.
- C (10/5): - The room was nice
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Kwok Keung (8/5): - The hotel charged JPY1000 per day for the heater, It is located quite far away from most of the main attractions.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful experience made better with japanese hospitality. The facilities were up to expectations and and we stayed in comfort.
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Elaine (8/5): - Not suitable for alone travel because the hotel location quite difficult to find, when very darkness when walk in to the hotel.
The staff all very friendly.
- KayeL_12 (10/5): Great host, good value - We loved staying at Ryozan Yamanakako Ryokan whilst at the Fuji Five Lakes area. The price can’t be beat, especially compared to other accommodation around the area.
Pros:
- spacious family room (it cost the same as a double room so I booked it, even though for just the two of us). The double room would have been sufficient for two anyway!
- super clean - every sink had hand soap and paper towels. Not common in the many Japanese guest houses we’ve stayed at...!
- the lady at the reception was very friendly and helpful :)
- good internet (good enough for Skype video calls)
- homey feel- like a cross between a good backpackers hostel and a ryokan because it still had free amenities like green tea, towels and toothbrush/toothpaste and toiletries
- Good price - about 7,500 yen per night for two people. Good price for one of the Fuji five lakes and last min booking.
- Owner speaks great English (spent some time living in Australia) and has a cute dog (Australian kelpie!).
- Has in room fridge and the kitchen area (however it only has microwave and kettle) is open between 3-9pm and 7-10am to reheat your meals.
- Lots of info re buses and getting around.
- Cheap bike rental: 1,500 yen per day compared to at another place we saw charging 2,500 yen per day.
- Has vending machine for drinks and she sells some instant noodles and coffee pods at a reasonable price.
Cons:
- a bit far away from bus stop (10 minute walk) and is away from main shops on the Main Street. Not a problem if you have a car.
- 20 min walk to the nearest kombini (7-11).
- Unfortunately does not serve meals: otherwise this would be perfect! (For the convenience)
- check in / staffed only from 3-10pm but allows baggage storage.
- Only shows up in Japanese characters on Google Maps.
- Public bath available from 7-10pm, best just after 7 when the water is freshly drawn. Otherwise it’s a bit cool later in the evening (logically, because the bath water is just sitting there). But you can also have a shower (Japanese public bath style) from 6-9am. If you’re not used to not having your privacy when you shower, this might be a problem... however other guests weren’t in the shower when I showered.
All in all a great stay for a great price in the Yamanakako area which is much less busy than Kawaguchiko.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Nice little place at a fantastic location only to be let down by a judgmental lady host and unreasonable rules on the usage of the bath place and common area. My guests felt uneasy with the host around.
- Verified traveler (6/5): -
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Verified traveler (4/5):
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel location was alright, the nearest station was kuramae about 5-10 minute walk away, otherwise we walked about 15-20 to Ryogoku through a lovely little park. The room was quite small but just big enough for me and my partner. The bathroom was very small and found it a bit difficult to shower in. The WiFi was one of the downfalls, it would connect but then not load anything and we needed it as we would plan the following day the night before and had not other use of internet. There is no room service so if you need new towels/ sheets or change the rubbish bin then you do it yourself. It was an alright stay and we slept well there.
- Grant (10/5): No complaints - Rits was extremely welcoming and speaks excellent English. The rooms and baths were very clean and the area wasn't too far a walk from town.
- K (6/5): - This hostel is ok for the price. A bit far from the bus stop. No hot water on the second floor. Shared bathroom, washroom and toilet can be a bit crowded around bedtime and morning. Be award the only shower room is shared by all the guests of same gender. If you are not comfortable seeing other people’s naked body.... It has a good view on Mt. Fuji except for some trees in the way. Overall, it was good for the price. I would probably choose some onsen hotel nearby
- Lianna (10/5): Spacious and relaxing - The place is tranquil. A good place to relax. The staff/ reception was very friendly, helpful and understanding. Also children friendly. The room was spacious enough for all of us comfortably. The gas heater was warm but unfortunately made the room smelled of gas a little but acceptable. Other guests were respectable in using the shared facilities. Overall we had a very good experience and would stay there again. I would recommend driving there instead of relying on public transport.
- Shawn (10/5): Lovely people and breakfast - We love this Ryokan stay. Staff is extremely cheerful and caring. Our children love to play with hotel dog Dingo. Short walk to lake and great for a walk and jog.
Value for money.
