Barbara (5/5): Aggravating - Usually a nice ocean view from room this time put on first floor down far end of hall and did t have any view Arrived in the island went to eat and hung out in restaurant for an hour and a half waiting for 4 pm check in. Went to hotel and was told our room wasn’t ready and they didn’t know when it would be and proceeded to check in at least a dozen other people arriving getting keys to their rooms and checking in. Sat outside over 45 mins before going back in and being told again my room wasn’t ready. I started complaining at that time and walked out a few minutes later a mgr came out said my room was now ready. He said the resort fees would be refunded to us. I checked out this morning and was told my resort fees were refunded to Booking.com being told they don’t provide my credit card info when booking. I responded you have my credit card number you placed a $100 hold on my account. Response was you have to get the refund from Booking.com. I have emailed Booking.com and did not get any response. Totally disgusted with this entire process . It appears the hotel treats third party bookings differently then going directly to the hotel service and then their response to everything is you used a third party to book. I had better receive my refund from Booking.cim. That’s my money and you don’t have any claim to it.
Wanda (5/5): Beautiful Oceanfront View that’s it!!! - The beautiful ocean view!!! Had to climb 3 flights of stairs with heavy luggage for our week long stay. I’m 67 and my husband is 74. We were told pets were on the 1st floor but we were placed on the 2nd floor with ours. The room was never cleaned nor were sheets ever changed. Only one time when we asked if the cleaning lady would sweep or vacuum our floors as they were filled with beach sand. There was old urine around the toilet bowl that we had to purchase cleaner floor. The sinks were very slow to drain. Which was very gross.

Ashley (3/5): Don't stay here - I like that it was close to the beach, although I didn't have my beach view from my hotel... be careful when booking from this hotel it can be misleading. Supposedly, there's a noise ordinance starting at 10 o'clock. That didn't true the entire trip. Besides the local activity, which was great the entire time.. the hotel was absolutely miserable. I did not sleep a wink so if you wanna book a hotel where you know you're getting rest, I do not suggest this one. lots of rowdy kids in and out all night, we were on the bottom floor, so it sounded like a herd of elephants from the rooms above and lots of yelling too.This went on all night.
Marilyn (2/5): Sometimes you have to make the best of it. - We slept. We were unable to check in as we requested an early check in to get ready for a wedding. I had to get changed in a small lobby bathroom, lighting was so poor I chose not to put on makeup. Sand on the floor so I was concerned about my long dress. They said they would text me when our room was ready. I never received a text. We got into our rooms when the wedding was over at 9:00 pm. It's over and done with but would never recommend this place.

Staff were really helpful. The heating was permanently on in the room and it couldn't be switched off so we had to put the air con on overnight which we didn't expect to have to do in October. The staff tried to help but it isn't possible to turn it off. I'm sure during the summer it wouldn't be a problem as the heating wouldn't be on.

The heat was so hot in the room I had to keep the slider open all night and the Ac unit on. The widow in bathroom was broken and it was a sauna in there so we had to just keep that door closed.

I meant to get the young ladies name at the front desk, she is very lovely, friendly, and accommodating. My room was ready when I arrived at 1pm and she also let me check out at noon. I will definitely stay here again.

Totally worth paying extra for 2nd or 3rd floor Ocean Front with Balcony (note though, those floors in ocean front building are “walk up” accessibilty only (unless I missed elevator; make sure you ask if concerns about that) Beautiful views, feels like being on the beach without getting your feet sandy. Staff is nice, accommodating and efficient.

We twice had to ask for clean washcloths and didn’t get any housekeeping on one of the days. Water pressure is light so the outdoor shower was weak. lynnemA5632HH (2/5): Disappointing! - We have been staying at The Drifting Sands in Ship Bottom for over 25 years and, sadly, this last visit was extremely disappointing. We’ve spent thousands of dollars here over the years, but the hotel has gone downhill badly and it feels like no one cares anymore. When we arrived, our room wasn’t ready and we didn’t get a call until 4:02 p.m. to say it was available. In the offseason, this is unacceptable. At check-in, the woman at the desk continually addressed me as “ma’am,” which felt patronizing and off-putting. Housekeeping was practically nonexistent. Although the paper we received at check-in promised daily cleaning, our room was never cleaned during our three-night stay. Towels were taken but not replaced, and we ended up having to buy toilet paper and tissues ourselves. One day we came back from the beach to find our door left wide open by housekeeping. That alone is inexcusable. The room itself was in poor condition. No coffee pot, no glasses or cups—just two flimsy plastic cups. The bed was uncomfortable, the pillows were terrible, and the floor was buckling. The stairways and outdoor areas were dirty, with hairballs and debris that no one bothered to sweep. What’s most frustrating is that ten years ago, the oceanfront rooms were actually nice. Now, they’re falling apart. It feels like the owners are relying solely on the location and putting no effort into upkeep. For the price—even in the offseason—it’s simply not worth it. It’s heartbreaking to see a place we once loved deteriorate like this. We won’t be returning unless there are serious improvements.
d (6/5): - Stayed many times. This time when booking i even called to confirm the room was end unit. Also sent email but no respinse. When arrived wasnt end unit. Everyday smell of marijuana in stairwell, told front desk. Guests next to us had a young child making alot of noise in early am for 3 hours running up n down outside hall and room had to bang on wall several times. Told front desk. Key card did not work 2nd day had to get 3 new key cards. Did not give us extra toilet paper. No clean towels til 2nd day. Not sure why were paying daily resort fees after laborday. Beaches are free. No beach towels supplied. We brought our own and our own chairs. Why pay for parking pass when the hotel has their own lot. Doesnt make any sense.

If you book an oceanfront room, you can enjoy the waves from the balcony or even from inside your room - perfect if the weather isn't ideal for hanging out on the beach.

The lady at the reception desk who checked us in was absolutely delightful!!! Whenever I get the opportunity to visit LBI, I will always stay at Drifting Sands!

Maureen (3/5): I will not be back! - Location was good. Staff was helpful and pleasant. This property is so old and rundown that it’s shameful. At $450 a night I expected more. Old beds, old pillows, a rusting stovetop. Bathrooms are about 30/40 years old. Just icky! That price was for a room on the parking lot…..not waterfront.

Patrick (10/5): - We stayed in the Oceanfront building on the third floor. Each room in this building has an ocean front balcony from which you could throw a stone and reach the beach. The view from our room was stunning. We awoke to a sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean every morning. What more could you want from a Jersey shore vacation. They also supply beach chairs, towels and beach passes. We will definitely be back.

The smell from the carpet was moldy. It was relatively quiet with a partial ocean view, The coffee maker had only one cup.the bathroom was clean the furniture was old and hard to open the drawers. It’s wasn’t a bargain to stay there.

My wife & I booked an Ocean front king suite. the suite is spacious & clean yes sand gets tracked in but it is manageable the so called resort fee is not hidden, it is listed on the website when you make your reservation & on your reservation confirmation. the view is spectacular

The only complaint was that it smelled very musty but hey we’re at the beach and that’s to be expected. Only suggestion would be to remove the old carpeting… was the source of mildew odor I think. Otherwise we will definitely be back next summer! Love LBI and staying at the Drifting Sands is awesome right on the beach!

While the beachfront and lobby areas are acceptable, our room at the end of the property was disappointing—smelling of mold, with damp sheets, broken faucet, poor water pressure, and no ventilation. When we asked to switch rooms, only one was available, which was unacceptable. Outdoor showers were out of order, and the only working one was uncomfortable due to privacy concerns. We checked out early, requesting a refund, but were refused. This experience has been a major disappointment, and the lack of response from management suggests poor service. We will not return or recommend this hotel.

The room was clean and spacious. with plenty of towels. The mini frig and microwave were a bonus especially if staying more than a few nights. The included beach badges, working chairs, and towels were appreciated.

Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointed - They do not follow the rules about pets… I requested upstairs away from the pets…we had a room right next to a pet the barked for 3 hours at night. Stayed 5 days 3 out of the 5 I had to go and search for clean towels garbage was not removed from room. Chairs for the beach were limited or you get a broken one. On a positive note the room was clean. Do not book through hotel.com I paid $50 additional a night… lesson learn make sure you book directly through the Sands.
