• jennhasslen (10/5): An IDEAL location to Playa Hermosa and 40 minutes from the airport. - This is a wonderfully peaceful place to stay. It is a tiny hop from Playa Hermosa (5 min at most). The rooms were clean and simple. The pool is clean, and the staff work hard to maintain the grounds. The breakfast is good, and service is excellent. The front desk was helpful with all our questions. The room rates were fair and good for the average traveler.
• LittleSwissLou (8/5): Great room and location - Great room, good size, very comfy bed, great shower - wish I could take it home! Staff are lovely. Has a family owned feel to it. The restaurant food is fantastic. Only gripe is the cost and the time it takes for food to arrive. After the first night we rebooked dinner an hour earlier and it still took an excruciatingly long time for food to arrive. Food really is delicious. But have also had food as good elsewhere nearby at half the price. they have entertainment on frequently a band. Mainly 70s music but they are good. Bit loud if you want some quiet time. There is a great restaurant at an adjacent hotel - turn right - 5 mins walk up the road on the left, if you want an alternative without driving.
• traceyaH6026LQ (10/5): A sweet spot for a nice dinner - Ate at this restaurant one evening, such a sweet spot, and the service was spectacular!! Multiple serving staff took care of us. The food was fresh and delicious! Highly recommend. Live music was an added bonus.
• CDNMarmalade (8/5): Comfortable property that is good value for money and close to the beach - This hotel has been around for a while but does not show its age. It is safe, welcoming, clean and comfortable. We were here before high season, so things were quite quiet. Staff were always available to serve you in the restaurant or answer questions at reception. The pool is clean and has some shade. The grounds are well kept. Parking is free The beach is only a 3 minute walk away, which was good as that was why we came here. It is black sand, showing the volcanic nature of the area, and is backed by trees and bushes for shade. The restaurant is excellent with prices to match. There are several options for breakfast here and all are well done. In high season there's a live band several nights a week. If you're looking for something else, there are other good restaurants on the main road (walking not recommended) and at the other end of the beach. If you want to get away, reception can arrange transport. There are also infrequent public buses to Playas de Coco on the main road. Buses also go to Playa Panama and Liberia every hour
• Theodore (6/5): - Rooms are very simple and outdated. Staff friendliness and overall attitude needs work. Often felt like an intrusion rather than a paying guest. Compared to the other places I stayed in Costa Rica on this trip, this place could use an overhaul in both accommodations/decor and service/hospitality.
• MARIO (10/5): - It is a very safe place, breakfast was great, staff is very friendly, close to the beach, quiet area, good restaurant in the hotel. Wifi worked great but the cell phone coverage was spotty in town. We did not have a car; we used uber. I think this is a fine place for families and couples looking to relax.

• Gavin (10/5): - The highlight of staying at this hotel is the beautiful gardens which surround the villas and pool. From our balcony we enjoyed looking out onto flowering tropical plants, palms and listening to the birds sing. The photos in the ad for this hotel are exactly what you can expect. The villas enjoy the use of a small pool surrounded by beautiful gardens. It is a wonderful space to relax. I'm addition to having beautiful grounds the hotel is only a short five minute walk from the beach. The villa itself was comfortable and very clean. It had a studio layout with a small couch and table and chairs. The balcony was a highlight for us and we spent time there in the morning and evening when it wasn't too hot. The stairway up to the villa entrance could be cleaned. I don't think it was swept during our stay and dirt and leaves accumulated over time. At night ants could be seen crawling along the ceiling in the room which was unsettling, but they never bothered us. We learned during our trip to accept the presence of insects in our accommodations as part of life in a tropical climate. Breakfast was included every morning at the restaurant and it was quite tasty. There were a few different options to choose from and each was accompanied with a plate of fruit and a glass of juice. We did eat dinner at the restaurant on our first day and the food was good but overpriced for what it was. We enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend.

The grounds and pools are very well cared for, its like staying in the garden of eden. Loved the breakfast options, all really tasty. We would go there again in a heartbeat, this is a must visit while in Guanacaste!

• Sean (10/5): - This beautiful and tranquil Hotel has a Restaurant onsite serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner and the food is delicious. They have a stage and host live music ALOT, Amazing! The room was quiet and clean, King size beds are very nice and comfortable. Best part.... It was only 3-4 minutes walk to a beautiful beach that had kayak rentals, a food truck, and lots of locals, not an overcrowded tourist spot. I would definitely stay here again!

Staff friendly and ground well manicured my issue was the cost of the restaurant food- outrageous ! And portions were small in comparison to what we had at other places. The two in the bedroom were too complicated to access. Not a complaint- just something to note. Absolutely loved the bathroom window. I would open it each morning to listen to the birds 😊 The included breakfast was delicious! We had the Costa Rican breakfast each morning. Staff were friendly and helpful.

• Lincoln (10/5): - Everything was great, which is why this is the 4th time we've stayed here. Only down sides are it's not super wheelchair friendly, but not impossible. Price for a beer is unusually high (6USD), as are extras at breakfast. Example, 5USD for two pieces of toast? Kind of outrageous, as were any of the breakfast add ons. BUT, this is a 5 star, no arguments, restaurant. I've never stayed at ANY hotel ANYWHERE that has food of this quality. It's literally near perfect or perfect almost every time. Truly outstanding. Getting ice is a pain too. If they cleaned all that up, this stay could have been 100 out of 100 instead of 95. Hard to argue with 95 though. We'll be back. Randall the Handle, best ever waiter, typical Costa Rican guy (as were really almost everyone working there). Will miss him the most, and his young apprentice (forgot his name, but he was the youngest waiter by far). Sure hope they're still there next year.
• Michelle (10/5): - Villa Hotel de Sueno is a modest property - not fancy, but very comfortable and clean. For example, our twin basic room lacked a fridge and the television was tiny, more like a monitor. But the room was clean, the bedding sparking and the bed very comfortable. There are two things that make this hotel fantastic. 1) the food. Be sure to have a meal here beyond breakfast. The dinners and desserts are highest quality and service is perfect. 2) the staff. Everyone went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of for us. From arranging transport and pointing us to the beach and fresh towels to being sure we were fed early mornings . I usually stay at chain hotels but the personal touches this place provides makes it much more enjoyable. Thank you for your hospitality!
• Zachary (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay, albeit short, at the hotel. We only stayed one night, needing a place without a long drive to the Airport. It was an easy drive to our car rental drop off. I’m glad we chose this location. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The restaurant food was delicious and the service was excellent. It was great having such a short walk to the beach where we could watch the sunset fade into the ocean on our final night in Costa Rica.

The high light of the whole place is the restarant, the staff, and music on weekends. We have returned for the last 3 years. Also close to the airport Liberia. Highly recommended !!!

It is very clean and it is very close to the beautiful flyer at Hermosa. It also has a pool only downside not any electrical outlets to charge the phone and TV is pretty weak. But great service they hooked me up with a fantastic boating excursion super nice and super quiet. I highly recommend this property for your stay here.

• Lincoln (10/5): - I have nothing negative to say at all. A couple things irked me, but they were really none of my business so I won't say. What I will say, whenever something wasn't right? They fixed it. They are very customer service oriented here. The hotel (I'm no expert) is 3-4 star. Very spacious rooms, clean, all you would want. The Restaurant is 5 star, but personally? For THIS place, can I invent SIX star? They'd make it easily. Not the first time we've stayed here; repeat customers who will be checking in again on April 2nd. Food is over the top sensational every single meal. Top five breakfast place, and possibly number one for dinner, and I've been to Costa Rica 12 times now, staying usually 3 weeks but once only 2 weeks. Been ALL over the country. Highly recommend. BIG shout out to our best buddy waiter of all time, any country, any city. Our Amigo Randall the Handle!!! Bless!!!

• denveryo (10/5): A Hidden Gem. - A hidden gem! We so enjoyed our visit. First, we had excellent service. the hotel staff so very helpful and accommodating. We also enjoyed amazing meals and were introduced to some local cocktails. Thank you! I now love cacique thanks to the bartenders. Make sure you stay for at least one dinner with live entertainment - its so worth it! And the grounds and pool was like living in my own mini paradise. Our room was not on the main property but in the adjacent property which we highly recommend! Please note, the rooms were very clean but the furniture probably needs some updating. Same with the decor. Though very comfortable, the aesthetics on the inside didn't match the wow factor of the outside or the experience.

Beautiful pool and garden areas with English also spoken at desk. Short few minutes walk to beautiful beach. Can book catamaran, cruise, massage, and other tours, especially Jose very helpful.

It is a short walk to the beach, offers great facilities and had a great restaurant, all at a very reasonable nightly rate. During our stay the hotel had live music several nights. No worries about what to do, the hotel can arrange excellent tours to meet every desire. We loved the staff. They were very friendly, always helpful, knowledgeable, and treated us like family. Villa del Sueno will be our go to stay for a mid winter break in the future.

It is a very short walk to the most beautiful beach and sunsets. I would highly recommend this place and would love to come back.
• jerryjX4308QM (2/5): Disappointed - We arrived on a Sunday for a three-night stay. Upon check-in we learned Monday and Tuesday there would be live music in the evening. The Monday night band rehearsed for a few hours Sunday. Our room, was no more than 30 feet from the stage. Carrying a conversation in our room was a no-go while live music played. Monday the music ended at 9:30 pm. Tuesday there was a different band who played until 8:45 pm. Multiple speakers are directed at three rooms in the main building. Had we been provided information about the live music prior to check-in; we would have made a different decision to stay at Villa del del Sueno knowing how loud the property would be in the evenings for the room we booked. We anticipated a peaceful stay not a concert venue with the band shouting for the audience to be louder and louder outside our window. At check-in we were not informed our room would literally shake. At check-in we were not informed that we would not be able to carry a conversation while music played. At check-in we were not informed that we would not be able to use the room to sleep while music played. When we booked our reservation, one of the reasons was the facility boasted two pools. During check-in we learned our reservation included access only to the pool at the main building. The coffee maker is on a middle shelf under the TV. Very cumbersome & messy to use. We ended up going downstairs to get hot water and bought instant coffee at the grocery. We couldn't find easily accessible electrical outlets to charge our devices without moving furniture so we used the outlets next to the bathroom sink. Fourteen rooms use the pool at the main building. There were seven lounge chairs. A few were broken but still usable. The hotel has two beach chairs for daily use which can be checked out in the AM. Very bummed to end our two weeks in Costa Rica at this location.

Part of their reply: “Regarding live music, our hotel offers live music throughout the high season. The music calendar is posted at reception., At check-in, receptionists provide hotel guests with information verbally and in writing..." Check-in is not the time to be told about the music. At check-in we were not informed our room would literally shake. At check-in we were not informed that we would not be able to carry a conversation while music played. At check-in we were not informed that we would not be able to use the room to sleep while music played. This property has three rooms that are directly across from the sound stage: 106, 107, 108. Don’t get me wrong, we love good, live music. We just prefer to decide when we are going to a concert and what type of music we will hear. We did not, do not expect our room to literally shake from instruments outside our window when paying $230 USA a night. Just beyond the pool are two buildings with four units in each that face one another across a courtyard. These rooms do not have refrigerators. Guests we met bought coolers at the grocery and filled them with ice daily. There are also villas which have their own pool across the street; about a half block from the main building. Fourteen rooms use the pool at the main building. There were seven lounge chairs. A few were broken but still usable. The hotel has two beach chairs for daily use which can be checked out in the AM. The beach is an easy five-minute walk from the hotel. It is a quick beach walk from one end to the other. We had a family with small children next door for our first two nights. Upon arrival, we were told by other guests to be prepared as they were loud. Since the property does not have any “play” space, they used their room. The kids were indeed loud. The dad was just as noisy as he played or yelled with & at them. After a few hours in the evening on our first night, I asked the front desk if they could get the family to tone down the screaming. They were right on it. The family was a smidge quieter for half an hour. They were up at 6 am screaming the following morning. No one in the family understood indoor, quiet voices regardless if they were in their room, the restaurant or pool. They were in the pool one morning at 7 am doing what kids do (having fun, playing, being kids, screaming) yet we were in “quiet hours”. There are rules on audio devices not being allowed in common areas. There are “quiet hours” yet this family was able to disrupt other guests throughout the day and in “quiet hours”. I spoke with the front desk twice about the guests. My second conversation was asking how many nights they would be next door. The hotel took no responsibility for our experience. They placed the responsibility on us not asking to change rooms. Our booking platform took care of us. The hotel reiterated to our booking platform that they provided information upon check-in AND we, did not request a room change. Don’t let this happen to you. I do not understand the high reviews, especially for the cost. Anyone saying this property is peaceful did not stay in the main building. Be aware this property is a concert venue first and foremost. Accommodations are secondary. Very bummed to end our two weeks in Costa Rica at this location. It was our only experience of being taken advantage of.

Good luck finding outlets 2 charge electronics. The hotel has 2 beach chairs 4 daily use which can be checked out in the AM; if you know about them. We learned about the chairs from other guests. Not all rooms have fridges. I am with others who do not understand the high reviews. DO NOT STAY HERE

• Adrienne (10/5): - Just spent 3 nights there, was a nice property. Quiet area at the end of town, easy walk to the beach. There is music frequently which is good fun. We had several meals at the restaurant and the food was great! The staff especially were welcoming and very helpful. They make a great pina colada!!! It is a bit misleading because they state there are 2 pools, but the larger one is off limits to occupants of Villa Sueno, is apparently only for El Oasis folks which seems a bit misleading in the advertising. Playa Hermosa itself was perfect for us, lowkey, good restos and the beach itself was beautiful, we would happily stay at Villa del Sueno again.
• Lori (10/5): - My husband and I had a wonderful stay here. This is a nice and quiet location at Playa Hermosa. Easily walk to the beach every day and watch the wildlife including howler monkeys. Uber can take you anywhere else that you need to go. The servers for the restaurant here are fantastic and made our stay even better. Our room was nice but the bathroom would benefit from better lighting.

• smallface1 (10/5): A Very Good Choice in Playa Hermosa - This is a cute hotel about a 5 minute walk from Playa Hermosa. The rooms are very adequate. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The restaurant serves excellent food and is a lively and enjoyable place on the nights when free live music is scheduled which seems to be most nights of the week. Prices are a bit high for the area. I have no qualms about recommending this hotel.

• B5648XPrachels (10/5): A beautiful Costa Rican home away from home with delightful staff and clean, comfortable rooms - The room was clean, had great lighting, and a beautiful view of the pool and courtyard! The area is very quiet, mostly hotels and some locals near the beach who seemed friendly enough (though I did not wander around at night). It's a very short walk to the beach and not much further to walk to a convenience store for necessities. There is also a bus stop nearby! The food in the hotel restaurant is fantastic and the waitstaff were absolutely a delight! There was also live music on Friday and Saturday night. It was the highlight of my evenings to stop by for dinner, read my book, and visit with the staff who were working that night. On the Oasis side of the property there is a security guard posted through the night overlooking the street, so I felt very safe. The staff were also willing to accommodate any requests no matter how strange - including when I came asking for vinegar for a large jellyfish sting on my leg! Finally, I don't normally mention the internet/wifi in hotels because they're normally pretty standard but this place is HEAVEN for someone who wants a great and fast connection. Each of their rooms (possibly only the Suites) has its own in-room router connected via ethernet so you get the fastest possible connection with zero potential interference from walls. I was getting 220 Mbps down and 22 Mbps up and had no issues with latency or disconnections.

The hotel looks old and dingy from the outside, and unfortunately, things didn’t improve when I entered my room. My room was dark, dank, and had an unpleasant smell. Nothing like what was advertised in the pictures. The online images show bright, colorful spaces with nice furniture, but the reality was far from that. The furniture is SEVERELY worn and outdated. This hotel obviously hasn’t seen any renovations in at least 15 years. I chatted with a couple staying right next door to me, and they felt the same way. They were just as disappointed with the outdated rooms and would not recommend it. Adding to the disappointment, there’s nothing immediately around the hotel. You can only walk to the beach. Also, the food at the hotel is incredibly expensive! I ordered sea bass and a drink and it came out to $65! Where you stay on vacation can really impact your overall experience, and unfortunately, staying here was the low point of my trip to Costa Rica. If I’d known how outdated and misleading this hotel was, I would never have booked it. Thankfully, I’m only here for three nights. If my stay were any longer, I would have left. What saved this place from being a complete disaster was the staff. They were wonderful—welcoming, helpful, and attentive. The hotel was also very clean. Overall, this hotel did not meet my standards. False advertising & confusing reviews.
