Guest Reviews
- Kathy (10/5): - Absolutely great stay Everything was great!
Our restaurant experience was absolutely top class
- Jonathan (8/5): It’s all about the restaurant and the welcome! - The restaurant is superb Nothing
- Emily (10/5): -
- Darren (10/5): - Room was so clean and the host Oxana was so helpful. Would highly recommend
- Zlatomir (10/5): - Beautiful room's!
Wonderful Scottish breakfast!🏴💙
So kind and nice hospitality !🍀
Beautiful rural Scottish atmosphere 😍 🏴🩵
Very nice place! 👌
The breakfast was really amazing 👏
Thank You so.much Beautiful Bryn and Oxana Jones!!! We will visit You again! Cheers! 😍
- Shelley (10/5): Comfortable, cosy, friendly and amazing food. - Outstanding customer service from Bryn & Oxana, very comfortable stay and lovely warm rooms. Can not fault here at all.
- David (9/5): Great food, welcoming staff. - Food was excellent. Staff extremely helpful and considerate. Room was quiet. An electric blanket or hot water would probably be useful in January/February? 🤔😊 but as I was there in August no big deal. Pricey for a single visitor. But otherwise a very enjoyable stay. Know the owners need a break but being closed some days a week might be a deterrent?
- Stuart (10/5): -
- Luisa (9/5): Good food, great scenery - Amazing food-very friendly and helpful staff - gorgeous setting N/a
- stewart (10/5): -
- Glenn (8/5): - Comfortable rooms and good location for the Yarrow Valley. They've done away with the pub room, so there's no place to hang out for drinks or to relax. You can have a nice dinner and wine, but you can't get a pint -- no taps, just cans. Bring your own for your room because it's too far to the nearest pub.
- john (10/5): A dream of isolation and pampering. - Situated in the middle of nowhere, this was an ideal spot to chill out and enjoy the hotel.
The food was wonderful and the staff were ever attentive and always there to look after your every need. Nothing.
- Emily (10/5): - Everything. This is one of our favourite places.
- Nicola (9/5): -
- Mark (9/5): -

- Cairns (10/5): Peaceful stay with delicious food. - Lovely peaceful setting with countryside views. Attention to detail ensuring comfort in rooms. Delicious fresh, locally produced food with good gluten free options. Lovely breakfast and personal service. Nothing
- Stuart (9/5): A perfect rural restaurant with rooms in the Yarrow Valley - I had OJ, smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, brown and white bread toast, butter and marmalade plus a couple of large expressos.
A perfect breakfast.
I had an excellent three course dinner the preceding evening. The dining room books out at weekends but hotel guests have reserved tables. The bar is also a nice place in which to dine. The single beds in Room 2 don’t look like the sort of twin beds /divans which clip together …. but as I was on my own that was not what I had requested so it was not an issue … but it would be worth checking with the owners who are fab. If this is important for you don’t make an assumption … just check when booking.
- Fiona (9/5): Lovely stay and dinner in a beautiful rural location - Location, cleanliness, friendly staff Breakfast price a bit steep . Remote location should maybe offer a less expensive smaller item optional menu
- Michaela (9/5): - Super freundlich
- Dominic (10/5): Absolutely marvellous!! Great experience!! - Amazing location, a perfect stop over on route to Scotland, fantastic couple running this place, they are very hard working and passionate, we received such a warm welcome, but it continued through throughout the stay, high levels of detail, Oxana is a wonderful host and person, Bryn is a super chef, awesome food, super clean, tidy and I can honestly say, I have no faults what so ever, I will be recommending this place to my family and friends as I know they will appreciate the delicious food and fine dining experience.
Thanks again to Oxana, Bryn and Sir Tom!! Nothing.
- Arlene (9/5): Lovely stay. Very attentive owners . Food was wonderful - Lovely property- lots of character
- Emily (7/5): - The owners and staff were very nice and welcoming. The room and facilities were very clean. Flexability - We were able to check in at mid day so we could return late at night. Gluten free bread was available at breakfast. Quaint location and cute rooms. Overall, would recommend. When we showed up at the agreed time, the place was locked up and no one answered the phone, which was a bit concerning at the time. The ower came out eventually to let us in so it did work out. The water temperature in the showers was intermittent so parts of our 2 showers were with cold water. The breakfast felt a bit over priced at £20 each no matter how simple a plate you picked.
- Fiona (8/5): We hope to return. - A very friendly welcome, lovely food and a peaceful setting. A commitment by the owners to locally sourced/produced delicious ingredients. Nothing
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sharon (10/5): Amazing and welcoming stay - Amazing location and views
The welcome and hospitality was second to none. Couldn’t do enough for us, lovely couple who made sure everything was perfect.
Food was amazing - the risotto was the best I’ve tasted. Nothing
- Marta (10/5): - Fantastic, amazing food and service, great views, would love to come back and stay longer
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fraser (9/5): Superb -
- John (10/5): A marvellous restaurant with rooms hidden in the Scottish Borders - Outstanding food and a wonderful warm welcome Nothinh
- Frances (9/5): Superb -
- Emily (10/5): Exceptional - We loved the food; the room; the views from the windows. Can't wait to return!
- Juliet (10/5): Thank you for a great stay - will be back! - Warm welcome, super comfortable beds, great views and amazing food! Nothing
- Elizabeth (8/5): Very good - Lovely situation, very good food with some excellent dishes
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - The rooms were really cosy and comfortable. The food was superb... locally sourced produce, beautifully cooked and served.
- Phil (10/5): Great restaurant with rooms - Great place in tranquil countryside, between borders towns. It’s clear the ‘restaurant with rooms’ concept is what the owners set out to create and they make a really good job of it - the food and drink is excellent.
- Greg (10/5): Well worth the stop - From the moment we walked through the door, the service was fantastic, the meal was without fault, and the breakfast was brilliant.
- Lorraine (10/5): Perfect stay 🌟 - Everything! Fantastic overnight stay in idyllic surroundings.
Room was very comfortable with great views onto open countryside. Hosts very super nice and very welcoming Dinner was just amazing - will definitely return again! Nothing at all!
- Lorraine (9/5): Perfect for a romantic night away - Oxana gave us a lovely warm welcome when we arrived and was able to adjust one of the dishes to the tasting menu for my husband. The food and wine was delicious and well presented, Bryn the Chef came out and had a chat with us towards the end of the meal, which was also a nice touch. The bed was comfy and the surroundings were beautiful, lots of lovely walks nearby. I would highly recommend The Gordon Arms and look forward to visiting again!
- Robert (10/5): A Borders retreat, for anyone who appreciates excellent food and friendly hosts with an eye for detail - Super friendly hosts, excellent cuisine, comfy room All was excellent
- Gill (9/5): Very friendly staff, clean, comfy, attractive room with fresh flowers -
- Heather (10/5): Fabulous getaway for a night or two. Rooms and meals both fabulous especially after a days walking. - Food was excellent and rooms cosy and comfortable. Staff also very friendly. Only the weather let us down but it was November!
- Nantfarm (2/5): Very poor - Location Staff were rude. We were made to feel like an inconvenience to them. We were huffed at the whole weekend. And despite being a dog friendly hotel. They weren't, in fact, dog friendly. There are so many rules to follow. The dogs were asked to be locked in the car during our time in the restaurant. Breakfast times are between 8am and 9am. But get there at 8.30 and you will be greeted by a locked door and irritable staff who clearly don't listen to what you asked for. If you don't like black pudding or haggis. Your breakfast will be minimal. Will not be returning.
- Philip (9/5): Unique - Fabulous location. Really friendly staff. Comfortable room.
- Caroline (10/5): Excellent food! - Lovely stay in a very pretty area
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Toast (10/5): Two of the nicest people I have ever met on my travels, I stay all across Europe & have say this property & staf - Absolutely everything Nothing at all
- Sandra (8/5): Quiet comfortable room with nice beds . - Nice old property with comfortable rooms. Very remote.
Restaurant food was exceptional. Remote.
Expensive
- Graham (9/5): A wonderful place to relax in the Borders - Wonderful location out on it's own in the beautiful countryside. Very warm welcome and all areas inside very comfortable. The daily fresh flowers from the garden were a really nice touch as well.
All of the food we had was truly excellent, compliments to the chef. Nothing
- James (10/5): Exceptional hospitality from hosts and wonderful food. -
- Berit (9/5): Incredible food - Excellent food - utterly stunning and lots of local produce.
Clean and comfortable room with a good shower.
Thanks for preparing an early breakfast for us so that we could leave early in the morning. Check in and bar opening not until 5pm
- Rory (9/5): Great stay, delicious food and great base - Brilliant location for exploring the Yarrow Valley & St Mary’s Loch. The food was exceptional and the room was just what we needed Bit of a creaky bed
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - The food is genuinely phenomenal. Paired with the perfect wines from all over the world, the tasting menu was one of the best things I've eaten - ever. Oxsana and Bryn are wonderful hosts and took great care of us.
The room was comfortable and had everything we needed, and the breakfast the following morning was great. Nothing
- Darryl (9/5): Superb -
- Martin (10/5): Fine food in a quiet location. Worth the trip - The food offering was exceptional and because of the property's remote location, the rom was quiet Nothing
- Susan (10/5): Excellent - Breakfast was amazing and so was the restaurant evening meal.
We loved the remoteness of the accommodation Overpowering scent of the toilet cleaner
- Andrew (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay! Host was very welcoming! Room was very clean and beds were very comfortable. Linen particularly nice! Food (dinner & breakfast) was great value!
Will definitely stay again and can easily recommend it!
- Christine (10/5): Exceptional -

- Tim (10/5): Couldn’t fault the room warm and comfortable , breakfast was delicious and staff very welcoming - Absolutely stunning hotel , great location food excellent
- Raymond (9/5): Superb - Everything was excellent, especially the food We would have liked to be able to check-in a bit earlier
- Stewart (10/5): Superb food and service - Great rooms. Lovely furnishing in the restaurant. Might have been better with a cosy chair or settee in the bar but that’s a very minor criticism .
- Michael (7/5): Good -

- Jacqueline (10/5): Exceptional - Everything, it's in a lovely location the place is very well presented, the food is delicious and the staff are really nice, they all really look after you 😊 Nothing not too like
- Katie (10/5): Lovely - would recommend! - Beautiful place with an amazing restaurant - the food was incredible. Stayed in May as a stop off to Edinburgh as I was running the marathon - the staff were so lovely and gave us sandwiches/drinks to take with us in the morning as we had to leave before breakfast. Not for people that want hustle and bustle. But perfect for those who would like a quiet stay with beautiful surrounding scenery.
- Desmond (8/5): Very good -
- Alistair (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent - great local food and wmderfully fresh I liked everything
- Colin (10/5): A great inn made even better - The new owners took an excellent inn and have transformed it into an excellent restaurant with rooms. The food is very good without being unnecessarily elaborate. The staff are friendly and helpful and make you feel like you belong there. Honestly, I can’t think of a thing.
- Hamish (9/5): Very good - Very good Bedroom walls a bit thin
- Crocker (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nick (9/5): Great place in the Borders - Fabulous location, superb food and drink, friendly and helpful staff. Leaving, we could happily have stayed longer.
- Scott (8/5): Very good - The food and service were first class. The bed could've been better.
- Wendy (10/5): an interesting attractive place in a rural location - stylish decor , restful atmosphere with pleasant background music. dinner was well prepared and plentiful. The rather complicated coded access for guests proved too difficult for me and I was stuck out in the car park!
- Steven (10/5): superb - very clean comfortable and special - pretty much everything - a lovely establishment run by people who love what they are doing and want to ensure that their guests have the best experience possible. The locations is heavenly if you like peaceful scenic areas cant think of anything - it's on an A road but it a quiet A road and I didnt hear any cars in the night

Most of all the owners and staff are friendly and engaging.
Its also a superb location for swimming and fishing Nothing
- Andrew (9/5): perfect for us who were sailing at the loch. food and room perfect. new owners went above and beyond - clean. spacious and comfortable. staff incredibly helpful and nice. dinner and breakfast was amazing. definitely be back.
- Julie (10/5): Relaxing stay in beautiful countryside with superb food & friendly hosts. - The location is in a lovely scenic spot, however the best part of our stay was the food & the hosts/ owners. The standard of food / presentation was first class, both the quality of our evening meal & breakfast.
We were there for my birthday/ our wedding anniversary & as a coincidence it was also the owners 1 year of trading anniversary- so there was champagne for all the customers that evening 😀
Lovely touch of daffodils in the bedroom windowsill, views of the sheep & lamb's in the fields that we could see from our bedroom added to the relaxing stay. The only minor comment I would make is that our en- suite bathroom tiled floor was very cold & especially when using in the night.
- Ian (9/5): Lovely historic Inn in beautiful countryside. - Beautiful location, friendly and welcoming hosts, good food and spotlessly clean. What more could you want ? Nothing
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Seonaid (10/5): Great walking stop over - Very friendly hosts with a good sized and very clean room. The shower was too hot but I am sure they would have fixed it if asked.

- Robbie (9/5): magic - everything was great -
- Tim (9/5): Superb -
- Howard (10/5): the kind of wayside country pub you hope to find in Scotland but almost never do. - simple things done exceptionally well with love and care. from a perfect negroni to home made jam for breakfast. and everything in between… nothing
