Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Good locations for our visit, food was just ok service was good.
It's an oldie worldy pub with a lot of character but, it needs a bit of TLC, bed was really uncomfortable mattress and pillows need changing and the shower needs to be replaced. It's £90 a night and if honest not really worth it.
- Mrs Valerie (6/5): - Not very clean very old building needs an update.food was very good.
- Julie (6/5): - The room and bathroom were very shabby and shower quite tricky to get right. Dinner was basic pub food but service was friendly. A disappointing stay was saved by a nice cooked breakfast and coffee with no waiting for it to arrive.
- John (8/5): - The staff and the welcome they provided were excellent as was the pub grub.
The rooms are in need of some refurbishment as they look a little worn out in appearance.
The TV was so small it seemed better to watch the news on my phone
- Howard (8/5): - Well located in a nice quiet village. Very friendly staff. Comfortable. Excellent breakfast
- Andy (8/5): - Value for money, good breakfast. Used as base for attending party.
- ALBERT (2/5): Not goid - Obviously, most of the reviews were from last year. This property has really gone down. It was dirty. The room hadn’t been cleaned, even the key fob was dirty very disappointed, Doesn’t have a shower as it was dirty and the ceiling was falling down. didn’t stay for breakfast either.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Run down place, dark, felt quite dirty, shower was unusable due to the height of the tiny cubicle.
- Dominic (8/5): - I would like to point out that this property is not in Grantham but in South Witham, Grantham. This makes a great deal of difference and took us much longer to find and right out of our way. I suggest you correct this. The address given by you takes you to different part of the area and is confusing. So please correct it and add South Witham to the full address.
- David (10/5): - Quite, great food, great atmosphere
- David (10/5): - Friendly staff very nice food
- n (2/5): Wouldn't want to stay there if I was drunk. - Absolutely the worse hotel I have stayed in. The pub was OK. But we wasn't there for the pub. The closest thing I can call it is polishing a turd. As in mould on the wall with wallpaper over it and then painted.
Broken tv bracket, no pillow, mould, don't no what they call a single duvet but that wasn't it and it was freezing
- michael (10/5): - Really nice old pub. Room was nice and warm. Bed was comfy. Staff were very helpful. Food was spot on. Really enjoyed our stay
- Felicity (10/5): - We stayed here this weekend and I loved it. It’s a quirky vibe and an old building but was clean and secure. The food was great and staff were so accommodating. They made every effort to help with anything we needed. Decent size car park, clean rooms, would stay here again!
- Verified traveler (8/5): It's the village pub - Genuine village pub - not a village pub with a massive outreach - so don't expect international standards. But the food was good, the room was warm, the bed was comfy and the landlord & staff very friendly. The buuilding is ancient so expect curves and low ceilings and there's a fair few spiders in the tucked away places. But, all in all, a decent place
- Killian (6/5): - Old hotel, average food, uncomfortable bed
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Family owned & operated by very cordial and caring people. Quiet area in the country with a traditional pub below serving great food and pints of ale.
- David (6/5): Good nights sleep - Room was quite small , but clean bathroom and sheets. No wardrobe only a rail below the tv, headboard loose and damaged the wall behind. Quiet night sleep, good breakfast and friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Fabulous food - These guys work incredibly hard to make you feel welcome & whilst they are rightly building up the pub side, I'm sure they know there is some work to do on the bedrooms...but that will come in time, they work long hours & there wasn't anything at all, that our room lacked. Just needs a bit of a refresh. The food is delicious & the service excellent...was a great base for us & we'd happily return.
- Andrew (10/5): You get the Blue Cow Wow factor - Excellent. Really warm welcoming and friendly, our hosts are making the Blue Cow a destination location. Great breakfasts, comfortable room, cosy pub, great staff. Handily close to the A1 without the traffic noise. Will certainly return. Very central for 5 counties - so lots to explore. AND a terrific selection of Gins to try in the evening after a long days touristing!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not quite what we were hoping for. - We did a one night stopover at The blue Cow Inn and I guess we got what we paid for. The place was in the middle of being refurbished and the outside beer garden was coming on nicely. Inside was still sorely in need of some upgrading. The bar itself was fine but the room we stayed in was very, very small and in dire need of decorating. Described as a twin room with bathroom we expected the beds to be side by side. However they were at opposite ends of the room - necessary as the room was not wide enough for two together. The shower room was small but clean and probably new - it was fine for what we needed. There was only one teacup provided and no mirror in the bedroom. The ceiling was low as it was an original part of the building, this was fine for us as we are not tall, however even we had to bend our heads to get in the doorway. The beds were comfortable but the room gave the overall impression of being in desperate need of an over hall. The staff were all really nice and the food was good.
- David (10/5): - Good location just off A1m lovely breakfast and evening meal 2 steaks and a bottle of wine £25. Value for money unbeatable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A very old and quirky hotel. 14th century with uneven floors tight stairways. Good menu full english breakfast.Tremendous value.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A nice little hotel and pub in a historic village house. The staff was very helpful and my room was clean and well-maintained. There were a few small drawbacks, for example:
- the restaurant opening times are very short (18:00-20:30 except Sundays where food is served at lunchtime only)
- the door of my room was extemely small - maybe 1.5 m high
- my room could be better lit
- there was no hot water in the basin in my bathroom in the mornings
but my overall experience was very good, especially for this price.
- L.D. (8/5): - Staff and locals very friendly and helpful. Easy access to a number of public footpaths for walks.
Our room was quite small, but adequate for one night.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice and friendly. Not up market, but that’s expected for the price. Fits for the purpose of a refresh and overnight stay. If you want luxury then you’ll pay twice this price. Friendly staff
- Fraser (10/5): Friendly service - Superb friendly hotel and great service.
- Claire (6/5): Nice hotel and pub but needs work doing. - Stayed for 2 nights in September.
Staff all friendly and helpful. Food and drink at pub good, quick service and good value.
Owners only been there a few months and are doing a good job but parts of the hotel need updating. Celling paper coming away and loft hatch open in ladies loo. Access to some of the rooms is via a mental stair grid, some people may find unnerving. The fairy lights on the stairs aren't strong enough so there is a need for more lighting to guide people up there. Room was clean and no frills. Bathroom dated. Overall for £60 Was good. But would pay a bit more as it is a good location with great potential.
I know the owners are busy finding their feet, so I would stay again with the hope that a bit of modernising and tlc take place.
- bel (6/5): - Very ancient inn uneven floors plumbing intermittent heating in room did not work.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely staff - The food and staff were excellent so welcoming but the room needs updating and the mattress was awful. Would stay there again just because of the amazing staff
- Peter (6/5): - Stay bwas ok, very disappointed by the lack of hot water when I got up in the morning. Ended up with a cold shower!
- Michael (4/5): - Quirky old building. I have stairs and passage ways could be better lit. Evening meal was pretty good but the breakfast service left a lot to be desired!
- Carolyn (8/5): - The Hotel was a piece of history. Lovely friendly staff who could not do enough for us. Will be back.
- Rebecca (8/5): Good breakfast - We had a fairly small room with en suite. The room was clean but in need of brightening up. The bathroom was small but the shower worked well. The breakfast was good, with a decent range of options.
- B F (8/5): Excellent value for a short stay - We arrived late but the staff were very friendly and welcoming, providing a good range of drinks in the bar. Rooms are basic, clean and comfortable and there is ample parking. We chose the full English breakfast, which was freshly cooked, and very tasty. The inn is located in a quiet village with easy access to the A1.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It’s old and tired looking . Abit TLC would work wonders. The staff are amazing....
- Mr (8/5): A weekend to remember - The staff were working inder difficult conditions - the old tennant had just walked away that morning and they had stepped into the breach earlier than they had intended. Stock had been run down but the soldiered on with what was left. The fabric of the building is very run down but was clean. The new tennants are going to spend a lot of money on a refurbishment. Amusing part of my stay was getting locked in my room for 20 mins when the lock jammed but I was rescued in time for my full English breakfast. Bed was comfortable and I slept like the proverbial log. My intention is to return next year over the same weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend break at the Blue Cow.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - perfect location for quiet overnight stop off. Good value for money.
- George (10/5): Excellent as ever! - Second year staying here and yet again was brilliant! Staff were all super friendly and accomodating. The room was spotless. We had a slight problem with the shower but we're prewarned and given discount, was just a bit hard to turn on, but worked perfectly when I managed to turn it on. We had two breakfasts a lunch and an evening meal here and all were lovely. Lovely beer garden, plenty of parking and the locals were friendly. Cannot say enough how friendly the staff were. Really enjoyed our stay yet again and will definitely be back again next year!
- chris (8/5): Great Hotel full of character. - Lovely Hotel full of character and in a pretty english village. Great staff and a super English breakfast. Definitely on my stay here again list.
- Rachel (10/5): Character & Comfort! - Fantastic welcome and great service were the standout here. I was staying 1 night with my 2 year old son and the room was quaint and quiet and perfect for our needs. The pub itself serves fab food and we had dinner with friends (I recommend the Steak & Ale pie!) and a perfect full English in the morning after a great nights sleep in comfy beds. Buzzy 'proper pub' with quiet bedrooms - we loved it and would stay again.
- paul (8/5): Great value B and B for one night - The TV bracket needed tightening or fixing they propped it up temporarily they did offer to fix it but as we had arrived late it was not a real issue, we used a spare pillow on a shelf below to keep it in place (room 2). This however was a known problem so should have been fixed as also the hot tap in the basin only dribbled when it was fully open. The bed however was very comfortable and the décor was OK considering the age and nature of the property. The breakfast was very good freshly cooked and of a good size. The property has lots of character and the staff were helpful. Plenty of parking and in a quiet village setting. Good value B and B for one night and easy to find and convenient from the A1, so useful to break a journey. Without the TV and tap issue and a little TLC this could be something special.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Short stay - Would not like to stay for more than a few days bed was uncomfortable. If u like steak u will like the food, anything else poor took an hour to serve us
- Heather (8/5): Last minute booking - Due to forecasted snow we changed our plans to take our camper van to an event so booked last minute. Staff were expecting us and our lovely large room had an additional oil filled radiator which made the room very toasty on such a cold night. We enjoyed our meal and the bar was lively with it being st Patrick’s day but come 11 we enjoyed a quiet relaxing sleep.
- MRS C (6/5): - the rooms were dusty and the bed was old and uncomfortable. the carpet was un-vaccumed. the service by the manager was really attentive. it is a real shame other things let it down. breakfast superb. thankyou.
- Chip (8/5): Quaint & comfy, so long as you don't mind smelling - You certainly couldn't fault the staff – they were welcoming, friendly, responsive when needed, and cooked an excellent breakfast. The rooms were quaint and comfortable, but hugely let down by the showers. In one of our two rooms, the shower was so powerful it blew itself off the wall! We therefore had to share a shower in the second room, where the water pressure was virtually non-existent. If it hadn't have been for these shower issues, though, we would have scored this Inn much more highly.
