Guest Reviews
- Elizabeth (7/5): Good -
- Hannah (5/5): Very disappointing - Stayed in RWY before in other apartments in Clarence building so absolutely love the location and the building Don’t understand how you can hold £150 deposit when there is no inventory to check before and after my stay
Like other reviews I was given two different addresses for key collection and same as other reviews had no responses to messages asking for clarification
All the blinds are not working properly. The one in the lounge has a huge panel missing, the one in the main bedroom doesn’t close and the one in the downstairs room doesn’t lift up
The cutlery, plates and glasses are all mismatched with not even two wine glasses to use. The bottle opener was broken too.
There were lights not working on the stairs
One of the lamps downstairs doesn’t work
The huge clock in the dining room isn’t working
The remote control for the TV is missing it’s battery cover
The safety tape on the stairs is lifting so is not safe!
The floors are sticky and don’t feel clean
The free toiletries are embarrassing, you would be better off not providing any
The key drop off and pick up is ridiculous like other reviewers these should be in a key box on site
Fridge door doesn’t stay shut
We had the owners turn up at 10.30 am when we had paid for late check out but they hadn’t been informed
We stayed during a storm and there was a really loud noise that kept me awake for both nights of the stay
Safe to say there are much nicer apartments to stay in at Clarence and I wouldn’t recommend this apartment
- Catherine (10/5): A lovely apartment in a great location. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. - Modern, clean and charming. Clever use of space and everything we needed. Only minor negative was that there was nowhere to hang a hand towel in the downstairs bathroom. Other than that, it was well later out and had everything we needed.
- Emma (6/5): Beautiful property with lovely sea view. - The keys are a 6 min drive away for collection and drop off. The property was beautiful and very clean. Staff at Pureservice reception were pleasant. My deposit has not yet been refunded after 20 days. It states on the form it should be back in the account within 10. I’ve asked for proof that the transaction has been cancelled but they have not replied to that request.
Additionally you are charged £15 a day for parking. I spoke to the staff on the RWY site and I understand that the parking charge shouldn’t be passed on to the customer- the permits are awarded so they can be part of the fee you pay for the property. Other holiday rental companies on the yard do not charge extra for parking. So it seems these guys are being greedy.
- Sam (10/5): We’ll be back - Character and sea view No lift
- Julie (10/5): Absolutely loved it and will definitely book again. - Loved the location and how spacious it was. If I had to pick fault it would just be when we first arrived it wasn’t easy to find the door numbers as no signs were up when you went in the building.
- Lee (10/5): Definitely recommend - Beautiful building, great location
- David (6/5): Pleasant - Key collection and check out is a bit odd. I would have expected to have collected/drop off the keys at the property and not 1.6 miles away. I lost count of the number of emails I received from PureServiced, let's say it was far too many and becomes tedious and repetitive.
- Samantha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (9/5): Superb - Fantastic location and amazing apartment. Beautiful view from lounge and lovely designed property. Will be back. Loved it all
- Andrew (8/5): Great location - Location Hot in the summer
- Jill (10/5): Exceptional -
- Begum (10/5): Honestly so so worth the money. Such beautiful and calming views and in such a nice neighbourhood. - The area was so beautiful. So much to see and do. Ferry rides, islands, little beach, sea view bedroom. Everything! Perfect!! Sofa beds - no blanket and a little uncomfy and cold.
- Anthony (9/5): Great vacation rental accommodation but a rubbish management company business model that is anti customer! - It was a very up market place to stay. The staff ignored three emails and one phone message from us asking check in questions. We never got any replies!
The day we checked in the company provided three different addresses by email for the key pick up location. This was only sorted out by another phone call from me which we were lucky enough to have answered this time.
The key pick up and drop off location cost us 20 pounds in two taxi fares to travel between the company office and the accommodation which annoyed me greatly. Everyone else uses lock boxes on site!
I detest the 150 pound security deposit that the management company demanded we pay one week before arrival and promise to repay two weeks after our departure. In my opinion this is a company scam forcing every customer to finance their bank overdraft!
Other than that we will never give the management company our business again!
- Judith (4/5): Lovely location and view . Wean easier key pick up - Location and beautiful view of the sea Sticky floor and difficulty with using key in front door . We asked for a cot but when it arrived it had not been checked for safety or use ability and we could not use it. Very poor management for picking up keys which have to be collected and delivered back to central Plymouth which is not near the property. We were given three different addresses to pick up the key in the various automated communications from Pure serviced accommodation. This caused unnecessary stress and confusion. Staff very friendly and helpful at the office.
- Aled (10/5): Exceptional -
- Taryn (10/5): Exceptional - Setting Distance from key drop off. Would be easier to drop keys at apartment.
Cost of parking too
- Collins (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect apartment for a family visit to Plymouth. Excellent location
- Leigh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lauren (7/5): Nice but having to move properties as a faff - Modern and clean First property had a broken blind in the bedroom that the staff said they were aware of but decided not to mention at check in. The key collection and drop off would be better on site or in a key safe. As this was a ten minute taxi ride away.
- Melanie (6/5): Brilliant location & apartment, however the heat/broken blinds & key collection/drop off wasn't good - The location was brilliant and we had a lovely evening exploring the yard. The apartment was clean and in condition apart from the broken blinds. The broken blinds and the how hot the apartment was prevented us from sleeping most the night unfortunately. The sun came through the blinds and woke us up very early and it was very difficult to get to sleep due to how hot the apartment was despite us having all the windows open. It was very awkward and inconvenient having to pick up the keys and drop off the keys at a different building not very nearby. We also were directed to the wrong location initially via the welcome information on the link we were sent. It would have been much better for us to have a key in a key lock to collect at the property or for someone to meet us there. The extra charge for the parking for just over night and we weren't able to leave the car there during the day was awkward too. I did mention this all to the receptionist and she said she would tell her manager.
- Sandra (8/5): Very good - Beautiful building
- Richard (9/5): Superb -
- Emma (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyed and surprised by the quality and space in the property - Beautiful property with excellent location and parking , great restaurants/ pubs nearby Nothing
- Tom (5/5): Would not have booked if I had known about no lift. Very difficult for seniors. Not mentioned in the information. Also n - Location No lift.
- Suzanne (10/5): Exceptional - A beautiful apartment with magical views
- Dennis (7/5): Wonderful view and location - Location and space was lovely having a car space was handy. The blinds need replacing very poor do not work or block the light out. And got woken up at 5am on Tuesday morning by someone banging on someone front door so loud we could hear it and had to check the door thinking it was our flat.
Also the fridge door wouldn’t stay closed unless you really pressed the door but didn’t alway work. We only had a small carton of milk and a drink inside.
- Silvana (9/5): Superb - The apartment was stunning, super bright and spacious, with industrial design furniture and decorations. It had everything needed and we just loved the space and it's vibes. It was a bit hard to find, although after a while we managed to get the right location on Maps.
It's slightly away (still walking distance) from the city centre, though the Yard is such a cool place with many restaurants and shops
- Natalie (10/5): Exceptional - No lift
- Liz (7/5): Lovely flat, wouldn't stay with a child. - Fantastic flat, great bed rooms,2 good sized doubles and two toilets and a main bathroom, so great for me, daughter, son in law and 2 year old grandson. Lovely views over the water, parking and lots of coffee shops and places to eat . Key collection in a different location the property.
£150 to pay incase you trash the flat.
lots of stairs, no lift.
endless emails telling us we had to leave by 10am, we only stayed one night.
very difficult to find the flat, no numbers on any of the outside doors.
not toddler friendly, again more stairs in the flat, and because its residential as well as holiday lets, the locals don't
like crying toddlers, grandson cried for 10 mins before going to bed, and they were banging on the walls, which wasn't
very helpful.
- Angela (9/5): Would stay again - Location is great apartment lovely though could do with blackout blinds very bright early in morning.
Blinds in downstair bedroom needs repairing. Applied for early checkin & late checkout.
Only got call for early checkin at 11am on the day. Was told I would get a call regards late checkout that day did not recieve call got message the next morning around 9am after we had already packed & left the apartment. Alos meant they had to refund payment.
- Laura (8/5): Very good - Lovely accommodation and location. Blind didn’t woke so bright sunlight in bedroom
At 5am.
Lamp didn’t work in second bedroom.
- Yann (1/5): Not available / scam - No one there on arrival. Lodging not available.
- Lynn (7/5): A great place but needs some tlc to be back to brilliant - Stayed twice before, great location. Amazing apartment , has all you need for a self catering break Since my last visit. The blinds have been broken. This apartment has large windows. Which face the sunrise from both bedrooms. So its not possible to sleep with bare windows and on what was a lovely sunny day in Plymouth. The place is bright from 5 am! Downstairs bedroom door ! Dont close from the inside all the way if you want to get out again, listed building huge doors must be logistical nightmare but this is a design flaw !
- Clare (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing location and stunning apartment Having to pay extra for parking
- Adey (8/5): Very good -
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (5/5): Nice place, shame about the total lack of wine glasses and welcome pack - The location was great, the apartment was clean and ideal for the four adults staying, terrific sunset views over the sea and the surrounding bars, restaurants and cinema were great too. Craft market on the square on the Sunday was interesting too. Having to fill in endless online forms for Pureservice and also paying a £150 surety against damages without any definitions of what the damages could be. Two weeks after our stay, I still haven't received notice that I am released from the surety for damages. Having to pay to park to collect the keys from another area of Plymouth. Getting charged £12.50 to park a single car per night - we've stayed in other apartments at the same location and the parking space was included in the booking price. There were only three champagne glasses, all different and just one wine glass. Nobody ever responded to my online request to their website for more glasses. There was no welcome pack of say; a bottle of water, or a pint of milk, some nibbles etc. Just some measly sachets of instant coffee and below par tea bags with tiny plastic servings of UHT milk. The salt and pepper mills were empty too. I expected a lot more for a £400 two night stay. If Pureservice could have kept their costs down even further, I don't know where they would have done it.
- Stephen (9/5): Great location, surrounded in history, but wouldn’t want to stay there in hot weather - History of the property but with a modern twist Hot… bedroom airless
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marcus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jayne (8/5): Very good -
- Hayley (9/5): Superb -
- Nicole (9/5): Lovely property great location -
- Wajahat (9/5): Superb -
- Helen (8/5): Lovely apartment in fantastic location. - Great location, beautiful views. Comfortable apartment. Parking charge £12.50 per day.
Bed linen/duvet/pillows etc. getting old, need renewing.
Toilet brush in downstairs toilet dirty.
- Becky (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alan (9/5): Wonderful high-end property at wonderful rate - Everything is top-notch and, of course, the view is stunning!! Honestly felt SO relaxing my blood pressure must have dropped 20 points! Having to return the keys to an office 2.5km away! Perhaps not a problem if driving, but ...
- Hasan (8/5): Very good - . Not suitable for elderly - no lifts in Clarence, and then there are stairs in the apartment.
Otherwise, great place, etc.
- Lindsay (9/5): A wonderful stay in a unique apartment with lovely views over the Tamar. Well equipped and clean. - Lovely friendly staff. Was just a little bit of hassle to drive a few minutes from the property to collect the keys and then to drop the keys back off again afterwards but not unacceptable.
- Grant (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yupha (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely place to stay.
- Viktoria (10/5): We come back every year and we love it - Beautiful property beautiful location I loved everything
- Sharon (7/5): Great location but apartment and owner have issues that should be sorted for guest safety/welfare - Collecting the keys was not straight forward - requiring a visit to another property away from the accommodation. Not very well explained as to where the accommodation is, particularly in the dark. There was one serious safety issue two and other issues regarding this accommodation;
The bi-fold door for the lower bedroom is a serious safety hazard should swift exit from the room be required during an emergency. The door closes in on itself when pushed shut and cannot be opened (no handle on the inside) without having to get onto the floor and prise it open with your fingers - however, once you manage to get the door to open slightly, the top of it catches on a steel pillar outside the room preventing it opening fully without having to work it back and forth! If there were a fire and the occupant of the room was not aware of the malfunctioning door, the result could be quite disastrous.
A second hazard was that there was no anti-slip mat provided for the over bath shower and the bath surface is not non-slip. I am an able bodied middle aged person and found it quite dicey, it's a simple fix that could prevent a possible accident.
We arrived for our first night in the dark and when I tried to lower the venetian blind in the lower bedroom, it came away from the ceiling fixing, jammed and could not be lowered or closed. I reported it immediately as it was still during business hours. The following day nothing was done to rectify the blind. I called the managing agent again who said it had been referred and will refer it again. The follow day I called the managing agent only to told that the owner would not be replacing/fixing the blind during our stay as it has happened a few times before and are expensive to replace! I spent the entire duration of our stay (4 nights) in a bedroom with a very large window (approx 7 ft high) with absolutely zero privacy (there were builders across the road on scaffolding early each morning) and zero blackout for sleeping - I found it quite appalling that not even a temporary measure was attempted in order to provide comfort for a paying guest. I hope the owner has a similar experience in holiday accommodation...
- Nick (9/5): Great location superb views - N/A Shower was warm and poor flow rate, taps all worked well with hot water
- Burrows (10/5): Exceptional - Stunning apartment, stunning view, excellent value for money,we will definitely be booking again Nothing
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caitlin (10/5): Exceptional - The apartment we stayed in was absolutely beautiful. The photos did it not justice, it’s absolutely huge when getting in there. The views from the front room looking out over mount edgecombe was lush! Would definitely recommend and I would come again.
- Kelly (8/5): Very good -
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lou (8/5): Love the Royal William Yard - Fantastic location. Amazing view. We booked through Booking.com but we’re told by another company that we had booked through them, Pure Services where we had to collect the key from which was very inconvenient.
- Helen (10/5): Gorgeous apartment, gorgeous location, extremely clean - EVERYTHING!! It was absolutely gorgeous, nothing negative to say whatsoever Nothing!
- Stephanie (8/5): Very good - The location was lovely and the sea view was really nice. Would have rated higher if it wasn’t for the fact that the keys had to be collected and then returned to a completely different location.
Also I think charging £12 per day for parking when they have a designated parking space is not good. In my opinion it should be included and would be an extra selling point. Lovely accommodation but I wouldn’t stay here again for those reasons.
- Anonymous (10/5): A unique and beautiful apartment in the heart of history. We will be back - How it has been restored is amazing. So modern and fresh yet it still felt like we were staying in a historic building. The main bedroom was beautiful and the view from the window breath taking. We didn’t put the tv on instead sat on next to the window watching what was going on outside. The info book was brilliant as well with some really useful bits in it like taxi numbers which we needed in the end. We seriously didn’t want to leave We didn’t get to stay long enough!
- Tina (9/5): Relaxed (apart from picking up and dropping off keys), and very enjoyable. - Absolutely amazing location and fantastic views from the apartment. Apartment has everything we could possibly want. Staff are friendly and helpful. Picking up keys from a different location was a complete nightmare and would put us off staying again. I'm sure we won't be the only ones to find this a problem.
- Gail (8/5): Very good -
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paula (8/5): A short stay in a beautiful place with great views. - Location, space and views Some of the appliances were tired fridge, freezer. It was a boiling hot day and the freezer was off and there was no ice for drinks. The addition of some small tables in the front room would have helped wiv drinks.
- Lisa (7/5): Beautiful but not for children or the elderly. - Very spacious and clean.
Netflix for the children.
The location. Collecting the keys, i hadn't realised at booking that we would need to go somewhere else to collect them. We then found the key office and there was a note on the door telling us it was closed and we needed to go somewhere else.
The downstairs bedroom and lounge blinds couldn't be pulled down, it was difficult to sleep because of this. I did mention this when I dropped the keys back to the office.
The stairs to access the apartment in the building, there was no lift and the treads were short. This was hard with a baby and child and all the kit that was needed, up and down the stairs.
- Gail (9/5): Superb - The apartment was lovely. Clean, comfortable, great view?
Ideal for viewing fireworks. Poor instructions for shower.
No dishwasher.
Biggest gripe was having to pick up and drop of keys into city centre. We would not have booked if we knew this at time of booking.
Additional cost for parking
- Helen (8/5): Very good -
- Monzur (3/5): Amazing property, neighbours may not appreciate children under 5years old - The property itself was excellent, location, facilities everything from a -z was amazing. The residents in the apartment block made a complaint that we were too noisy. Now I don't know what kind of block that is but having children walk around in the summer holidays at 4pm in the afternoon, naturally you would expect kids talking (all kids were under 5 years old). Felt like walking on eggshells in the apartment I was paying for...avoid if you have kids
- Feddin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wendy (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location Nothing it was all good
- Lynda (9/5): Fabulous. Would definitely book again - From the moment we picked up our key to the moment we left , everything was perfect. Lovely location very clean and welcoming …
- Carl (8/5): Very good - Great view.Great sitting room.Comfortable bedroom bathroom needs refurb.Shower head had sections missing and there were tiles missing too
- Jjb (9/5): Perfect spot - The location and space. Had to go into town, a distance away from the unit, to pick up and return keys
- Darren (9/5): Wow. Book it. - Everything. Amazing building, amazing apartment, amazing view. Check in was inconvenient. Too far away, too complicated and much harder than it should be for such an amazing property.
- Sarah (10/5): Amazing, wish I’d stayed longer. - Beautiful, quiet, overlooking the water No dishwasher, having to collect the key elsewhere.
- Brian (8/5): Very good -
- Tobias (8/5): Very good -
- Gill (7/5): Good - Sea view from the first floor window and the comfortable beds. Good choice of restaurants in the complex. We couldn't open the downstairs bedroom window or blind. No tables to put drinks on, if sitting in the lounge which seems shortsighted. Art work!! The stupidity of the key collection and the unexpected parking charges
- Alice (8/5): Nice clean apartment in lovely development - Great location, good development with nice restaurants and bars. Well positioned for boat trips, museum and the hoe. No lift or dishwasher, not quite enough plates or cutlery. Really really loud seagulls!
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional - The apartment was fantastic. Very clean. I would definitely recommend this place. N/a
- Gardener (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tracey (8/5): Stay in Plymouth - The location is stunning, I could watch the view from the living room window all day.
The apartment is stunning and was fantastic for our family group.
This location was perfect for my son's passing out parade at HMS Raleigh Just a couple of niggles:
The blinds in the living room would not come down properly so did not blackout the light for my son who was sleeping on the sofa bed.
A second set of keys would be useful as some of our party were coming in later than the rest.
But neither of these things spoiled our stay and we would definitely visit again
- Mark (8/5): Fantastic location, terrible administration - Location.
View Key collection and return a complete faff. It's at a completely different site. They take £100 damage deposit on collection of keys, but you don't know this until AFTER you book the accom with email stating an admin fee deduction when return your deposit up to 7 days later.
Not 'disability' or baby/pram friendly.
Parking fee £12.50 but can't get key to accom and park there until after 1600 and have to leave at 1030. Don't pay them for parking, you get better deal by parking in the main car park for £15 for 24hrs.
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Muddassar (6/5): Overall reasonably good - The place give you nice adventurous feeling and memory trip to old building of 18th century with luxurious renovation. Windows were not double glazed so I couldn't sleep through the night as seagulls were just outside the window because it was in front of the creek. However it is probably a listed building so nothing could have been done. Pictures were slightly misleading as I thought one of the room would be sea facing with large door opening towards the sea as shown in the picture and we would have some terrace seating! I had to go to different place to pick up the keys.
- Grzegorz (10/5): Exceptional -
- Holly (4/5): Location great service terrible.... - This was a beautiful location and the property was clean and lovely. The key pick up was awful and the staff was not helpful.....Yes we understood that they had a time frame to pick up keys but we were delayed due to extreme traffic on the drive and they gave us no option to pick up the key. This is unacceptable and needs to be changed if they want people to be able to stay. (an emergency drop off location or an additional charge even) It is hard to not recommend this beautiful property but the way we were treated to check in I could not recommend to anyone because things happen and there is a reason that it is called customer service that is all about making your guests feel welcome. Besides the key issue the directions to the property were not great either. As we were arriving in the dark it would have been very helpful to have a map or better instructions to find the location. Again very disappointed as the property is gorgeous but the staff and service way below standard for a property like this.
- Peter (7/5): Good - Beautifull location with great views The bathroom really needs a tidy up, no handle bars near to the bath, the drain plug from the bathroom sink is broken, the bottle holders in the fridge are missing...
- Jenny (8/5): Very good -
- Paula (9/5): it was a fantastic location for a birthday celebration with restaurants and bars on your doorstep. - it was light and airy and had fantastic views. nothing it was great
- Wakeling (9/5): Superb - The location, comfy bed, views from window were amazing
- Roderick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Keith (9/5): Delightful stay in a beautiful, well equipped apartment - Location was amazing Property was up on the first floor and there wasn't an elevator/lift
- Nicola (7/5): pleasant stay in lovely apartment but prefer to have on site concierge - location having to pick up the keys from another address
- Guy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (9/5): ver good. - Great location, plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. accommodation was very good and very comfortable. Having to collect the keys from Plymouth town centre was a pain, especially returning the keys on day of departure as the door code didn’t work
