- Suzy (10/5): Friendly lovely stopover - Great location and beautiful room with comfy bed. Team were very helpful with our late check in and early departure.
- Christine (9/5): Chilled weekend, great in every aspect - Large bed, beautiful pool, very good Gin bar and excellent restaurant

- Lynne (8/5): Good location, good hotel staff, nice dinner. - Good location, friendly and very helpful staff. Room was adequate, and clean. We were supplied with a fridge on request - which was a great help. It was cold and there was no wood to light the numerous wood burning fire places - which was a great pity as it would have really enhanced the atmosphere.
The breakfast service was not good at all.
- Leanne Pooley (9/5): Charming Karoo hotel - Lovely setting, convenient location. Staff friendly and helpful. Bed was small and hard. Husband prefers a hard bed apparently.
We stayed in the garden cottages before which are lovely. Unfortunatly the main hotel building is very noisy.
- kim (8/5): Well preserved old school hotel. - Comfortable room. Great shower. Lovely gardens to enjoy. We also enjoyed the Gin bar. Nothing.
- Honeyborne (8/5): -
- Garth (7/5): A great experience. - Great position. Interesting history. Helpful staff Meals lack care in presentation. Dining room meals cold have more variety. Expensive for what you received.

- Sipke (8/5): -
- Doug (8/5): - Excellent breakfast and burgers in the pub
- Tramayne (8/5): -
- Botha (9/5): - The Gin bar was a treat and the food was really good as well.
- Andrew (8/5): Good experience - Lovely hotel and gardens, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Check in was simple and easy and our room was comfortable and clean. There was a a wedding taking place at the venue which didn't effect us, except the afternoon of function, we were not allowed to sit on the terrace or order drinks from the Bar. Better communication and alternative organisation for non wedding guests would have been expected. However when we complained, they did make it up with a free round of drinks outside our room in the courtyard. @hotel management - you have a beautiful area next to the swimming pool. You can create that area with one barman / lady for your hotel guests with a sign that says what drinks you can serve due to a function, that way you have happy guests, money in the till and the beautiful outside area can be used - it's perfect with the afternoon sun and gives better shade and coolness_ don't over look this area, it's a gem!
- Danzil (4/5): - The staff was very friendly and the room was beautiful, comfortable and well stocked. I loved the old furniture in the room. The pump of the swimming pool was very close to the room I was in and kept me up all night. It was a huge disturbance and spoilt my stay at the hotel, which was otherwise quite pleasant. If you're a light sleeper, be sure to avoid a room near the swimming pool.
- Maree (8/5): Inflated bill - Everything Check out ruined a great experience. Booking.com platform did not allow me to add our two kids on two rooms. I immediately contacted the venue prior to our arrival, informed them it is me, my wife and two children and they quoted an additional amount for the kids, which I'm happy to pay. Upon checkout the lady informed me the amount was more than the quoted amount because she only accounted for one child. I clearly stated two children on the call. We had some words and I paid the amount they originally quoted, not the inflated amount.
Everything was perfect until the check out... how she handled it left a bitter taste.

- Lalie (10/5): Swartberg Hotel, Prince Albert - The cleanliness throughout the property.
Well trained staff.
Friendly and professional.
- Amanda (9/5): Perfect stop over on our journey to Cape Town - Lots of character and charm in a perfect location to enjoy the town
- Christo (10/5): -
- Marinus Brenkman (8/5): -
- Lee (9/5): Great hotel for karoo country vibes. - Stayed in the Suite with a balcony view over the main street. Spacious room, loved the balcony, clean modern bathroom. Central location, can walk everywhere in town. The TV could be bigger as its situated on the far end of a large suite, but that's nitpicking.
- Geoffrey (8/5): A nice stay - Great location Rooms a but stuffy and outdated
- Paul (8/5): Beautiful old world hotel, ideally situated with good food and very friendly and helpful staff. - This hotel is ideally situated on the main road and close to all amenities. The restaurant for dinner, café for breakfast and bar for drinks were very good indeed. The staff were incredibly friendly and professional. The Room sizes were large as were in the bathroom bathrooms. The bed was very comfortable. Our only criticism of this hotel was that the Wi-Fi was poor. We were given codes upon arrival for each device to use. After trying seven of them none of them worked and a staff member came up to our room and locked us onto the other network which worked first time. Whilst she was very helpful in doing this and prompt upon asking, it’s a shame that we have to go through putting in all the codes only for it not to work.
- Fiona (10/5): Lovely - Wonderful old, traditional hotel - lovely old dining room. Nothing
- Aletta Stanvliet (8/5): - Beautiful Hotel, friendly staff and the breakfast was exceptional Some basics was not in the room for example a hairdryer, a bar fridge.
- Desmond (10/5): Perfect hotel to enjoy the delights of Prince Albert - Beautiful hotel set in lovely gardens in the centre of Prince Albert. Well appointed rooms, nice pool, great dining and beverage options, friendly and attentive staff. Nothing to dislike, it’s all good 😊
- Felix (4/5): - ehrlich gesagt fast nichts so ziemlich alles
- LESLEY (8/5): -
- Paul (9/5): -
- Nivan (7/5): -
Knarrende Holzböden erinnern an vergangene Zeiten. Aber alles funktioniert bestens. Klimaanlage gut und sehr leise. Findet man in neuen Hotels selten. Nichts
- Graham (9/5): Prins Albert is a beautiful small town and never disappointed at our stay at the Swartberg - It has a great location in the middle of town with secure off-street parking and easy access to restaurants and shopping. A beautiful historic building with great staff Nothing not to like
- Tilla (6/5): I love Prince Albert and have menories of vety pleasant stays in the Swartbetg Hotel, but will certainly look for anothe - I love the old worldly Victorian feeling about the hotel. The Swartbergpas Cottage needs attention: patio floor full of “potholes” and in desperate need of attention.
The second bedroom had no hooks or clothes hanging space. A picture fell from the wall behind the bed headbord and was not replaced. No hooks or rails in the bathroom ro hang a gown or a towel. Our bathroom toilet was filthy after my friend had diarrhea and was not cleaned untill we left in the 6th of March. Dinners in the diningroom were exceptionally expensive, overpriced. One would rather eat at a choice of other better restsurants with value for money meals. Sadly, all over just a sad state of affairs in this hotel.
- Linouki (10/5): -
- Paul (10/5): - Great location and wonderful staff
- Steven Lapere (10/5): Gem of a hotel, friendly staff, neat rooms, karoo hospitality. - Friendly staff, great hotel overall, have stayed her a few times before, its' an absoulte gem, they can be proud of this establishment. everything was great.
- Reinhardt (9/5): -
- David (8/5): Thoroughly enjoyed it and meals were first class. - I love the atmospheric last century feel about the place Nothing
- Allison (10/5): We have stayed at the hotel numerous times. We love the “old” hotel with a new feel. The gardens are beautiful! We love - We love staying at the hotel. We enjoy the location, gin bar, the pool. And most of all the staff are amazing. We love it all!
- Jürgen (9/5): -
- Balder (9/5): - Echt leuk victoriaans hotel waar geprobeerd wordt alles volgens deze tradities te doen. Eigenlijk alles volgens verwachting, de volgende keer ga ik weer in dit hotel.
- Liza (10/5): Old world hotel with a lot to offer - Very friendly staff, nicely decorated, central location in small town to very good Karoo fine dining restaurants, old world hotel… Pool great, spa and coffee shop along with gin bar
- Jeanette (9/5): It was enjoyable - Especially the pool and dinner. Long wait for service during lunch
- Hoven (8/5): Very nice - All fine Nothing
- Helena (5/5): Disappointing. We were so excited to go there, but we won't be back. - Breakfast was good, staff lovely. 1. The room we were in was next to noisy extractor fan. The hotel was empty, and we don't know why we were put in that room if many better options were available.
2. Plugs not working in room – had to keep moving this around to charge phones, boil kettle etc.
3. The pool chairs had no cushions and were very uninviting, and the area was very messy, so we ended up not using the pool
4. Ladies bar (featured as a highlight on your website) was closed and has been for a while. WHY?
- Colin (1/5): Didn’t stay there. What can I say. - Nothing they booted my booking. Sent me elsewhere. Not that it was bad. Just sad as there was no explanation c ???
- Charel (10/5): - Beautiful accomodation. You cannot go wrong with staying here. We should.have stayed for longer one night was not enough NOTHING EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT!
- Keevy (10/5): Interesting experience, like stepping back in time. - The hotel is very quaint and has an old world charm. Everything is very tidy and well maintained. The garden and pool was the highlight of our stay, a beautiful green oasis in this karoo town and a stylish set pool. Breakfast on the stoep was great. The staff were friendly. Our bed was a bit small, a regular double bed, for larger people this may be tricky. We had to shift rooms as the one advertised on Booking .com was deceptive in its description and not all rooms have a garden view or direct access to the garden. Each day a new small piece of paper containing a wifi code for each device was issued to update access.
- Christine (10/5): -
- Allison (10/5): I have been to the hotel many times. Just love it! The staff are amazing .. great location, lovely rooms, pool and garde - Love the gardens, pool, the beautiful “old style” hotel, amazing staff! Loved it all
- Vorderegger (7/5): -
- Ian Nash (10/5): - We loved the location of the hotel, in the heart of Prince Albert, and our very comfortable room. Our stay was only one night, so we were unable to enjoy more of what the Mont d'Or Swartberg Hotel offers, but we would have no hesitation in returning to stay for longer.
- ROLAND (10/5): The grand old lady of Prince Albert - The staff were very accommodating and friendly. Personalised and professional service was received.
The hotel is well-maintained, clean and tidy.
Beautiful pool area and well-manicured gardens.
Safe, covered on-site parking available. Even though the hotel boasts with an amazing pool area, it seemed like non-residents also made use of the pool. This was quite incovenient, as the pool area's size is quite limited. The hotel should reserve the pool area for hotel residents only, and avoid situations where restaurant customers or people from other guesthouses make use of the pool.
The breakfast was sub-standard and can be improved.
- Robert (9/5): -
- Wade (7/5): -
- Sandra (3/5): - Staff were amazing.
Dinner was lovely with very good service. Breakfast was very poor as there was no pastries or Croissants left when we had breakfast at 9h00.
This should have been replenished.
I booked months in advance, and we were stuck in a room, miles down the corridor with the tiniest of beds -
so uncomfortable.
- Wilna (10/5): -
- Egan (9/5): Amazing -
- Leon (6/5): -
- Peter (8/5): It was a special place for a special occassion. - It was our 52nd anniversary and they upgraded us to a front room with double bed.Bottle of red wine,Roche and card.
Supper was special.Pork chops out of this world. Nothing I can think of
- SONJA (10/5): Absolutely awesome! - The experience was exceptional with full body massages on a Sunday after very long travel and exceptional diner!! Everything was exceptional!
- Piha (5/5): The Gardens rooms are great for families however the food offering was less than desirable. -
- Urs (10/5): - Everything worked well, all petsonal were very friendly and helpful. Will come again. All fine👍
- Stafford (9/5): Beautiful part of the world. Worth a visit. - I liked the restaurant style dining area?
- Gisela (9/5): Short but sweet - Our kids enjoyed the pool area very much.
The rooms where impeccable. We had a troublesome hinge in one of the room and maintenence was there within minutes. Everyone was super friendly, from the cleaner to the reception staff. We felt very welcome. The service at the pool was very slow.
- Iain (9/5): -
- Claire (8/5): -
- Elmarie (10/5): Beautiful hotel worth the visit - Loved the beautiful rooms, gin bar was awesome, dinner was very good. Rooms very neat and clean. Location excellent on the main road with nice shops walking distance away The ladies bar was never open - we asked every day. We were there on a Thursday and Friday evening - would have loved to have drinks there. Didn't have hot water in the shower - did report on checking out
- Charles (8/5): Everything was fine and we'd stay there again but would go out for dinner - Breakfast and facilities were good Dinner was very disappointing for a 4 star hotel. Probably one of the worst steaks I've had...definitely should not be a chef's recommendation.
- sjoerd (8/5): -
- Johannes (10/5): Great place and we return every December for a few days. - Love the architecture and Karoo vibe. We love the swimming pool and relaxing there.
- Wendy (8/5): The hotel is a great choice for the area - The location of the hotel The deli could have a bit more atmosphere, but the breakfast was good
- Riaan (8/5): -
- Owen (6/5): -
- Hans Peter (10/5): -
- Ursula (8/5): Enjoy are eveni - Friendly staff. Good location.
- theresa (10/5): -
- Suz (8/5): Fun, friendly and conveniently located in a beautiful environment - Loved the friendliness of everybody, the cleanliness, the atmosphere of the old (but comfortably modernised) building, the quality of the food at dinner. Located almost exactly half way between Gqeberha and the west coast, and near the fascinating Meiringspoort and other attractions, Prince Albert is a great stopover point as well as a destination in itself - and the Swartberg Hotel fits in perfectly with the ambience of this old town. Our room was right next to the staff recreation area so was a bit noisy, and we would have appreciated some starch (e.g. potatoes) as an option with the dinner. But neither of those minor points would stop us from visiting again.
