Guest Reviews
- Lovisa (10/5): - Loved the quaint and farm vibes of this property! We enjoyed our stay here and even saw the northern lights just outside.
- David (10/5): - Great little hotel that is close to Diamond Beach, Höfn, and other Icelandic destinations.
- Aditi (8/5): - The guesthouse is clean, rooms are spacious and comfortable. The room doesn’t have any shampoo/Conditioner so bring your own! Also missed having a mini fridge in the room. Breakfast options were good.
A bit on the pricey side for minimalist offerings.
- Dianna (8/5): - Great communication from management by email. Able to access luggage storage for early arrivals. Room is small and there are not toiletries supplied. There is a shared kitchen so there is access to a fridge, etc. Easy walk to Reykjavík city center and to the harbor. Grocery store next door. Safe and walkable area.
- Joanne (6/5): - Pros: easy access from #1, clean rooms, lots of electrical outlets in the room, comfortable bed, includes breakfast.
Cons: noisy with thin walls, can hear people dragging furniture, no light switch to bathroom and sensor kept triggering it in and off thru the night, broken door jamb where you had to lock it with difficulty to at least ensure it’s closed, large bay window in bedroom offers zero privacy, curtains do not span the entire window, leaving gaps, if you’re unlucky enough to face the parking lot, you’ll have bright lights on all night, internet is slow and spotty, kicks you out frequently. We didnt find the restaurant food to be good at all - had lamb soup (pieces too big and chewy or gristle-y), lagostine soup (fine) and chicken Caesar salad (disgusting- weirdly spiced chicken, brown lettuce, bottled sauce, boxed croutons). Breakfast was continental with a few pastries, meats, cheeses, breads (just ok).
Very pricey, even for this country, for what you get.
Tip: get a room in the 2nd building and face the road!
Don’t spend more than 1 night.
- Darci (10/5): - Very friendly staff
- Carissa (8/5): - We were in the older building but room was very nice although small. We had a nice dinner at the restaurant and a good, included breakfast. Nice stay.
- Denice (10/5): Great stay near Hofn - Clean and comfortable room. Loved the open shower layout. Great breakfast.
- Benjamin (10/5): - Nice new clean room. Lovely food in the restaurant.
- Daniela (10/5): - The room was simple and clean with everything we needed. The towels are small but absorbent and the water pressure was great. Parking was a plentiful and mostly affected by the rain/mud. The room was very warm with no thermostat, we could have opened the room but didn’t want to deal with the rain. We paid extra for the breakfast which was tasty. Easy check-in and check-out process! It looked a little ominous at night with the rain but felt safe just the same.
- padmaja (10/5): - Amazing view from the room, centrally located, beautiful room with glacier view.
- Scott J. (8/5): - It was a great place to sleep while passing through!!
- Alireza (6/5): - Very basic and simple but.a lot of regular necessities missing. For the price it was poor
- Diether Jon (10/5): - Best view. Easy check in and check out. Good facilities
- Alecia (10/5): - This property is gorgeous, the location is breathtaking. My room was clean, quiet, and well-appointed. The beds were excellent. The on-site limited-seating dinner was a really personal touch. I will absolutely stay here again.
- Frederick (8/5): - Comfortable and clean - basic but we got a good nights sleep. Had everything you need and breakfast was good too. The newer building would have been better, but the older one was all that was available. Not bad though, just average.
- Fraser (10/5): - -
- Gagandeep Singh (10/5): - Great staff
- Jacqueline (8/5): - The room was spacious and the staff was friendly and helpful.
- Alisha (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay here. The food, the staff, the room was all great!
- Geminikumar (8/5): - Water pressure and shower was excellent. Humidity in room was horrible. Door handle was broken. Breakfast was great. Staff tried calling internationally.
- Helen (10/5): - Great little guesthouse with modern rooms and glacier views.
- Kelly Ann (10/5): - Loved the quaintness of this property: quiet, lovely cafe for dinner, and the views!!
The lounge area was where we spent most of our time reading and looking out the window. The views are absolutely beautiful, you can see the glacier and the cutest family of sheep were just chilling on the front lawn of the property and behind the cafe. It was such a relaxing stay.
- Redjan (2/5): - Be careful when booking this. They have 2 buildings but show images of both properties when booking, so you think you are booking in the newer building. One building is extremely poor quality and old. Room smell was incredibly bad. Staff is unprofessional. I would recommend you stay away from this property. I would compare to a $30 motel.
- Milagros (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay! Room was spacious, clean, and updated. Breakfast was included and served in a separate building. It was delicious. We were so impressed !
- Shaqueem (10/5): - Very accomodating abd responsive.
- Peter (10/5): - Staff were very helpful in planing spacious quarters convenient in every respect.
- Crystani (10/5): - Only thing that would’ve made it better would be a hot tub!
- Cheryl (10/5): - Good breakfast and coffee provided.
Clean room
- Michele (10/5): - I spent 4 nights and did a lot of sightseeing. It’s very convenient to Glacier Lagoon, Diamond Beach, Höfn Harbor, Ring Road, etc. It was overcast during my stay but I did manage to see some Aurora action. Very faint but that wasn’t a minus. Weather happens! I spent a day at Ósland, which is a manmade land bridge along Höfn Harbor. What a great place for bird watching! The room was spacious and included a desk and a full shower. There was a hair dryer in the room. The Breakfast was outstanding. They also have an on-site Restaurant, which served excellent area cuisine. I had dinner there twice: the Meat Soup and the Lobster Sandwich. Excellent! The Staff was very personable and very friendly. I felt very spoiled staying at Lilja. Great place!
- Natalie (10/5): - Great room wirh comfortable bed. Breakfast was great!
- Robert (8/5): - Good location food was good. Rooms were clean nothing fancy.
- Angela (10/5): - Great views from this property. Very clean and nice breakfast buffet.
- Johnny (10/5): - Great place away from the noise and to be one with nature. The staff was super friendly and had a nice breakfast and dinner at the hotel.
- Sylvie (8/5): - Small, but clean room. Hallways had faint sulfur smell after raining, but the room in the non-renovated building was clean and kept well. Property was overall OK- nothing specifically wrong with the room, but atmosphere was a little less cozy than other places. Room was comfortable, though, so if you’re looking for a decent stay, would recommend.
- Lynette (10/5): - The room was clean and
- Kevin (10/5): - The place was cozy with very beautiful views. Very nice for a room for two. The staff are very friendly and helpful with providing extra towels and paper.
- Jiri (10/5): Simply great - Nice, modern, clean hotel. Supereasy check-in and check-out. Great views! Just 2 small issues: Breakfast is listed on the web from 7:30 but is served from 7:00. And the proper hotel breakfast must contain scrambled eggs!
- Christine (10/5): - The accommodations are definitely basic, but we were impressed with how clean and neat everything was. The staff was very kind and friendly. The breakfast was lovely, more than we expected from such a small place. The views from the property are just beautiful!
- Joshua (10/5): - Fantastic spot. First time in Southeastern Iceland, and I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. My eleven-year-old was more than impressed that the TV had Crunchyroll installed!
- Jenny (10/5): - Very clean. Staff very welcoming and efficient. Free breakfast was a great bonus.
- KEVIN (10/5): - Best location to see the Northern Lights.
- Mark Erwin (8/5): Comfy overnight stay - A comfortable overnight stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Absolutely beautiful location. We saw the northern lights right out our window with mountains and the glacier as the backdrop. Room was comfortable.
- Muhib (10/5): - Beautiful hotel with awesome breakfast. Staff is very friendly.
- Justin (10/5): - Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very good. Bedside table lights were way too bright.
- Mike (10/5): - Nice place with clean rooms. We arrived in the evening in rain and fog, then in the morning were amazed by the view of the Glacier across the road!
- Skylar (6/5): - Property was alright nice rooms and bathroom. Breakfast was good. Rooms are not sound proof it was very noisy from others trying to leave in the morning. Would recommend maybe just bring ear plugs
- Christian (10/5): - Really enjoyed our stay in & around Hofn/Stokksnes, as Lilja offered a convenient location for our day’s itinerary. It felt like staying in a modern & updated farmhouse with all of the comforts of home.
Staff were friendly & attentive.
Breakfast was really good, offering both hot & cold options. Great before a day’s adventure.
- Olga (10/5): - Perfect place to stay!
- Kashmir S (10/5): - 👍👍👍
- Seunghyun (8/5): - The room we chose was in the original building. Clean, simple, no TV in the room.
- ERICA (10/5): - The rooms annex is beautiful, modern. The check in area and restaurant are clearly the original property. The setting is lovely, with a Mountain View. Our room was facing the parking area and some old equipment so not much to look at. There were 2 adorable sheep hanging around that were very friendly and excitable. We enjoyed the included breakfast buffet, which also had 3 to-order options. Excellent location if driving Ring Road or visiting Hofn.
- bethany (10/5): - Very clean, beautiful property, excellent breakfast!
- Enen (6/5): - The confirmation email says to inform the property if arriving after 8pm, but it turned out to be unnecessary. The reception is in the restaurant building right next to the room building, and it opens till 9:30pm.
The room is clean, but has no mini fridge nor packs of coffee or tea. There is a thermo with coffee in the “lobby” area but has no stir.
We were at the end unit, there was a constant dripping noise from the exterior wall through the night. My husband finally had enough and got up to see what that was. He came back laughing. There was a goat lying by the exit glass door, he was panting and the horn kept bumping the door making that noise.
The glacier view was nice. Too bad in the morning, the fog/cloud covered it up.
- Holly (10/5): - This place is a hidden treasure! We booked because we were looking for an affordable place not far from the glacier lagoon. Price was great, and we had a truly breathtaking view of a glacier from our room and lots of cute sheep in the fields nearby. One of the most beautiful places we stayed in Iceland. Buffet style breakfast was included (with more stunning views from the restaurant area). They have a restaurant and bar on site but we went into Höfn for dinner, about 20 minutes away by car, and hotel staff provided us with excellent recommendations.
- SAMEER (8/5): - Very nice staff and excellent service
- CAROLINE (6/5): - The room was lovely but let down by the reception/ breakfast area.
Very dull and un inviting .
Staff were very unhelpful , my partner wasn’t well & they didn’t offer any support.
On arrival they weren’t very friendly .
No yogurt available at breakfast .
If the room hadn’t been nice we wouldn’t have stayed .
- Luis (10/5): - Excellent
- ken (10/5): - The staff was excellent. The food was excellent and the facilities were excellent.
- Dennice (10/5): - Loved how convenient and clean everything was! Staff was very kind as well. Would recommend :)
- Ben (10/5): - Lilja Guesthouse is such a great value for what you pay. The complimentary breakfast is very nice, and the dinner I had (avocado burger) was delicious. The rooms are spacious for what you pay, and are very clean. The property is very contemporary and minimalistic, which is very nice to see, with automatic doors so you don’t have to struggle when bringing luggage in. It’s situated right off the main road, but very quiet and calm. The wildlife surrounds the property and we were even able to see a sweet herd of sheep just laying out early morning next to the hotel. Friendly staff and wonderful experience overall. Would stay again.
- Elina (10/5): - Loved this place. When we come back to Iceland we will definitely be staying here. Peaceful and relaxing. Good food too. Sweet and helpful staff. Also definitely worth the extra to get the room with the views because we were able to see the northern lights from our window.
- PRISCILLA (8/5): - We selected this location to view the northern lights, unfortunately it was a cloudy day and unable view. Breakfast was included in the rate and it was surprisingly good
- Manisha (10/5): - Lovely property with really nice staff and great rooms
- Ravinder (8/5): - Generally clean rooms although the shower drain was slow so you were standing in water while showering. Breakfast/.dinner served in a second older building which was slightly inconvenient during our stay as it was snowing heavily and the path was slushy and wet.
Overall reasonable place to stay about 25mins from Hofn with better dining options
- Camila (10/5): - Had an excellent stay here! First thing I want to highlight is that I made the mistake of making two separate bookings instead of one booking for two nights. I was so worried because it left a 4 hour gap between check in/out times and was a huge concern because due to weather our snowmobiling was cancelled and we had nowhere else to go. However the staff was so kind, specifically Michael at the front desk, and were so helpful and I wish I could give more than five stars. Aside from my booking mistake, the food was incredible from the free breakfast to the on site restaurant (highly recommend the chocolate cake), the room was clean and cozy, the property was a great location/easy to find, free parking right in front, and would highly recommend to any tourist passing through!
- Xiaoshan (10/5): - Saw the northern lights only here.
- CHAITANYA (8/5): - Lilja guesthouse is located off of ring road on southern Iceland closer to Hofn. Nice little guesthouse with multiple rooms and nice dining options. After long day of travelling my wife and I decided to have a dinner in their restaurant. We had pumpkin soup, my wife had veggie burger and I had a regular burger. It was delicious. Staff is courteous and very helpful. Highly recommend this place for anyone who is driving around ring road in Iceland.
- Jessica (10/5): - Our room was great, we stayed in room 25 which is all the rooms they have on-site. There unfortunately was a trailer outside our window which blocked a view of the countryside and wasn't great. The room was perfect inside and has a smart TV.
- Isabella (10/5): - Very nice location, great food, great staff!
- tina (10/5): - Easy and pleasant checkin at Lilja Guesthouse. The room was sparsely furnished in the Scandinavian way, but was very clean with fresh linens and comfortable beds. Breakfast was excellent and all staff were helpful and spoke English!
- Kenneth (10/5): - Convenient access to Rt1. Liked the restaurant is open until 21:30. Very helpful when hungry after a long day of sightseeing and driving long distances in a sparcely settled.area of Iceland
- Bishnubrata (10/5): - Really enjoyed our stay. Glacier view room was excellent. Would remember for days to come. Also enjoyed our dinner and breakfast in the hotel restaurant.
- Michael (8/5): - Not much around the property, BUT would still recommend it for a nice relaxing stop over while you are on your ring road trip.
- Keith (10/5): - Great stay overall. We had an amazing Mountain View and even saw baby sheep! The breakfast buffet is super good! Short drive to Höfn for gas, groceries and dinner!
- BOZENA (8/5): - I like big clean room.I didn't like dinner.
- larry (10/5): - Excellent property, great food and very convenient! I would stay at Lila guesthouse anytime!
- Abby (10/5): Clean and comfortable - Clean and comfortable. Basic but does the job perfectly after a busy day expiring. Breakfast was great!
- Michael (10/5): Great place - Great rooms. Super clean. Beautiful views. Nice ride to Vik for dinner.
- Krystal (10/5): - The room is really nice, super clean, the view from the window is amazing. They have a small restaurant to dine and it is really good. Breakfast was good too. Definitely would recommend this place. The staff was really polite and helpful.
- Rebecca (10/5): - It was a great place to stay! Only call-out is that it’s a little far from Hofn! But still a great guesthouse!
- Mariette (10/5): - The room was really comfortable and they were really accommodating. We had to leave really early in the morning and they were really nice about it and accommodating to our needs. They offered to make us breakfast to go, which was amazing. The food at their restaurant was really good and tasty. We really loved it here, and wish we could have stayed longer.
- Brian (10/5): - Went there for one reason. To see the northern lights. We did. Nice comfortable place to stay. Beautiful views of the mountains and glacier!
- Saleha (8/5): - Beautiful location with mountains and glacier views.
Dining options available.
- Liliana (8/5): - This was the place where I saw the aurora lights! It was absolutely stunning because i had a view right from my room through the big window facing the mountain. They have a great selection of teas in the open seating area, however they did not have an open restaurant in February when I visited as they are closed in the winter months. I would recommend bringing food with you here. They do however offer a free breakfast which isnt the greatest, but does the job. They had toast, croissants, cheeses and meats.
- Brandon (10/5): - I really enjoyed this place, the room was a good size, the staff was really nice, and the complementary breakfast offered was quite tasty. There is also a restaurant on site and coffee offering in the main part of the hotel.
- Emily (4/5): - View was not as described. Property was messy and rooms barely stocked. Bad towels and one sad pillow
- Bette (10/5): - Beautiful views of the Northern Lights; nice breakfast
- Yunling (10/5): - Friendly staff and great food.
- Dave (10/5): - The room is very clean and it has large windows for northern light spotting
- Sandro (10/5): - nice and clean stay, very friendly and helpful staffs. The breakfast is very good.
- rhoner (10/5): - It was the only hotel that we stayed in that we were able to view the Northern Lights, despite the Hurricane force winds! The parking protected our car from stone damage. When reserving a room, ask for the rooms facing North. Huge picturesque windows! 30 minutes away from the Black Diamond Beach and Ice Cave tour through the glacier.
- James (6/5): - Friendly and capable staff.
- Mary (10/5): - The free breakfast was fantastic!; croissants, meat, cheese and fresh fruit. It was a great start to our day.
- Susan (8/5): - Comfortable room, good location.
- Tinaa (8/5): - Clean, nice property with comfy beds.
Downsides were that the walls were way too thin. We could hear the people in the next room talking, snoring and their phone buzzing. The TV didn't work, which we hadn't been advised of. The towels were super thin and felt like cardboard. The restaurant food was just ok - we debated eating in Vic and regretted not doing so.
For the price, this place was overpriced for what we got.
- li (10/5): - Nice, clean hotel. Food is excellent!
- Georgina (10/5): - Very clean and quiet and more than we expected.
- Adriana (10/5): - Friendly staff and fantastic location with glacier view
