Guest Reviews
- D (10/5): - Very nice stay
- Kenneth (10/5): - We always enjoy staying here. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful with everything. The food in the restaurant is incredible. The breakfast is delicious as well as the dinner options. The place is clean with plenty of parking. My wife and I stay here several times a year. Planning to come back soon. Love Greenbo lodge!!!!
- Melissa (10/5): - Stayed here while attending Healing Appalachia. Good location, super clean, good breakfast, comfy beds!
- Daniel (10/5): - Awesome place so much to do definitely going to have to stay longer next time
- Brent (8/5): - Nice area, quiet and friendly staff.
- Tiffany (10/5): - Amazing! We absolutely love the Lodge here, coming again in 2 weeks for granddaughters 10th Birthday, It’s where she wanted to come 🙂
- David (8/5): Worth the visit - The desk staff were amazing throughout our stay. They went above and beyond. They surprised us with a bottle of non-alcoholic champagne along with champagne glasses for our anniversary. We had a less than good experience with the restaurant staff the first evening but they went above and beyond to accommodate us our second visit. The Governor needs to invest in upgrades for this hidden gem.
- Bill (10/5): - Pleasant stay
- Glenn (8/5): Two night stay - Very friendly staff, took care of cleanup on our patio right away. Very good fish dinner in their restaurant!
- Frankie (10/5): - Very nice quick getaway
- Rhonda (8/5): - Would like to have had a mini fridge in the room. Rooms were clean. There seems to be some confusion about community pool pricing and you can only pay in cash at the pool, which is fine if you somehow know this ahead of time.
- Samuel (10/5): - Awesome hotel stay
- Michael (10/5): - Beautiful rustic resort hotel in a beautiful state park, and right beside a lake. The food in the dining room was excellent.
- Leslie (8/5): - Was a wonderful stay. Old resort, but, that didn’t even bother us. Only thing that was bad was the WiFi. However, in the mountains, you get what you get!
- Chad (10/5): - This are is beautiful. We only spent the evening while on a short weekend trip, but the people were great and the lodge and the surrounding area are beautiful.
- Carolyn (10/5): - The property is showing it's age, however the staff is friendly and the restaurant on site is excellent. I would stay here again.
- Brian (10/5): - Hotel staff was very friendly and the food is great.
The manager even gave us a gift for our 45th Wedding
Anniversary. Great place to relax and connect.
- Bambi (8/5): - For the price it was clean, fun and food was good. Everyone was friendly and helpful.
- Brian (10/5): Great staff - Absolutely great staff. Very friendly and helpful. We will visit again
- Nancy (10/5): - Very nice stay
- Shirley (10/5): - Nothing was wrong at all.
- Sarah (10/5): - My family and myself went for a 1 night getaway to just spend time with our mother as a late birthday getaway. I mean, we took up 7 rooms, lol, thats what i mean by family. It was amazing, even though it was winter there was still plenty to do, especially going to thw game room and playing uno until after midnight while all the little played witth the huge checker board and pool table. The restaurant's food is amazing!!! I will definitely go here again!
- Gregory (8/5): - A little outdated, but still a decent place to stay. Park itself is beautiful.
- Holly (10/5): - Comfortable stay and food was really good
- Melody (10/5): - Beautiful scenery and wonderful staff.
- Carolyn (8/5): - Nice walking trail close to lodge. Dinner was delicious with several good choices.
- Elizabeth (6/5): - I was disappointed that there wasn't an ice machine on each floor. Only certain rooms had refrigerators. The lodge pool was so unsafe! The ladders had rungs that were not screwed in and thus made it very dangerous to get in and out of. The lift chair needed to be used to get out of the pool. Is this lodge ADA compliant? On a brighter note, restaurant staff was awesome. They were very friendly and accommodating.
- Lanada (10/5): Beautiful night in the woods - Deep in the Kentucky hills we found a beautiful oasis of comfort. We sat out on our balcony taking in the moon and trees until late into the night playing guitars and singing old songs we could only half remember. We had the best hotel free breakfast we’ve ever had and I had a great hike early in the morning around daybreak taking pictures.
- deborah (10/5): - It was easily assesicible
- Gary (10/5): Great place to stay - We have stayed here numerous times and we are always happy with our stay.
- Emily (10/5): Great value, lovely site - This is a lovely place to stay. The lodge is well maintained even though it's obviously aging. The property, however, is great, and the breakfast was wonderful. Service was pleasant and personable. This was a wonderful family retreat--and the price can't be beat!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Room was average, cleanliness average, service was good, mid week stay and it was very peaceful.
The railings are too high on the balcony or the chairs need to be barstools. When sitting in a chair you stare at a 6 in railing. Terrible!
- Stephen (10/5): - Adjoining walls are very thin you can hear everything.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Beautiful grounds and the nicest people!
- Denise (10/5): - Staff was so friendly and the property and facilities were pristine
- Kathy (10/5): Great stay! - Lovely location. I enjoyed being in the middle of nature. The view from the dining room was terrific. I heard a brown thrasher singing when I came out of my room in the morning! The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the shower just right. The hot breakfast in the morning was exceptional for being a complementary breakfast. I took the one mile loop walk that was close to the lodge and although I enjoyed the walk, the trail needs some attention. It has eroded in places causing it to be somewhat treacherous, especially near the lake. One false step and I would be in the water!
- YOLANDA (8/5): Relaxing weekend - Very relaxing weekend, friendly staff🙂 Beautiful and inviting lobby. Would definitely come back❣️
- Trinity (10/5): - Its beautiful. Theres a balcony and restaurant. Breakfast was good. The only downside is there is no minifridge in the room or microwave. Other than that it has great views. Its peaceful. Staff was very nice and helpful
- Paul (10/5): - Location
- patrick clagg, (10/5): - woods view
- christy (10/5): Great place to relax - Very calming place to stay. Nice view of the lake
- Charles (8/5): - Nice property, needs updates.
- Rucker (10/5): - Staff
- Bradley (10/5): - I’m gonna straight up tell everyone…..this place is awesome, very friendly, and a lot to do. This will be my permanent stay when I am in the area. And the restaurant in the basement…. The chef did an excellent job cooking. I will suggest getting the onion rings….. u won’t be disappointed. I attached a pic of the food I ordered.
- Heather (8/5): - Rooms are small but clean. Need some updates. Staff was great. I was just passing through so did not do any activities but it was Nice change from a busy hotel in a city.
- Paula (10/5): - So much fun
- Mark (6/5): A little disappointed. - The rooms were old and somewhat runned down. The pool was not filled and the breakfast was non existent. The staff was wonderful. Lunch and dinner was great.
- Michael (6/5): - Staff was friendly
- Brittany (10/5): - We loved everything about the property private, quiet and staff goes above and beyond. They are the sweetest people we have had at a hotel in a long time and we travel a lot!
- Robert (10/5): Hidden Gem - Found this gem by chance while viewing the area on Google maps.
Everything was very nice, all employees were over the top friendly and lodge prices were very affordable. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and felt well rested when I left.
It is a state lodge, so some might view it as dated. But everything worked, and it was very clean. Peaceful and quiet with great views
- Daniel (10/5): - Very quiet getaway with trails and activities to do.
- Alexis (10/5): - Vey peaceful and loved our stay plan to go back very soon
- clifford micheal (10/5): - All's i got to say is the Mrs loved it!!!!!
- Karen (10/5): Our Stay - We had business in Ashland, but didn't want to stay there. This place was listed and it looked great! We got in after dark and had to call the front desk for directions. The lady was so nice and encouraging and led us right in! Quiet and cozy room. Restaurant food was delicious, service was friendly. We didn't get to hike or anything but will come back!
- David (10/5): - The park was beautiful with all the autumn colors.
- christy (10/5): Great lodge with tons of wildlife! - Great state park!! Lots of trials and hiking!! Deer all over! Great river!
- Diane (10/5): - Balcony- wooded property- deer in site- nice rooms
- Philip (8/5): - Very nice. Large lobby where our group could sit and chat.
- Julie (10/5): - This was a nice place to stay. Did not actually get to enjoy the property much because of being out with family but we would come back here again.
- Rhonda (8/5): - would have liked a refrigerator in the rooms.
- Ida (10/5): - Unexpected treat.
Last minute booking. Perfect for us.
Quiet, remote, clean & friendly location. Older lodge with lots of character. Not for city minded people.
- Darla (8/5): - I loved the peaceful scenery.
- Mark (8/5): - Beautiful setting in nature.
- Geraldine (10/5): Relaxation - My friend and I stayed here just to get away. We shopped and ate in Ashland and enjoyed the pool in the evenings. It is a nice place to get away and relax....
- emma (10/5): - It's a beautiful place to visit. My sister and I visited alot when we were younger for the trails. The MT loop was our favorite. The years have caught up to us but I did get to do the Fern Valley trail this trip. It's as beautiful as ever. We will always have happy memories of Greenbo Lake State Resort park
- bob (10/5): - It was a great, the room was nice, the people were polite, view was great. it was peaceful.
- Judy (8/5): - The staff was super friendly. The restaurant was a nice convenience and our server for our four day stay, Lauren, was so friendly and helpful. The staff was the best.
- Fred (10/5): Good trip - The only negative was room lighting that had not been upgraded to LED bulbs of sufficient brightness for the large room.
- Debbie (10/5): - Beautiful, even with snow!
- Tracey (8/5): - The staff was wonderful. The lodge needed some updates but overall clean. I had a great stay.
- Robert (10/5): - My wife and I stayed here while visiting family in the area for Thanksgiving. Room was very clean and relaxing and we loved the view from our window and balcony. Beds were very comfortable, and the employees were very welcoming and friendly. Loved the country setting, we will definitely be back.
- Christopher (10/5): - It is very peaceful and pretty
- MARY ANNE (10/5): - I loved the remoteness and peacefulness. The grounds are clean, the rooms SO cozy. The staff couldn't have been friendlier. MILES of hiking trails! It was autumn so the leaves were turning and just made the experience all the more pleasant!
- Colleen (8/5): - The property was small, and somewhat worn. Room was clean. Ventilation was pretty loud. Didn’t use the balcony because adjacent smokers made it unpleasant. Restaurant was only open for take-out. Dinner was disappointing. Grilled chicken breast was tiny, green beans were straight from a can. We only dined on site once. Drive to other dining options was a half hour, at least. We brought bikes, but were not able to use them much. Trails close to lodge were pretty strenuous and unpaved or graveled.
- Bradley (10/5): Great - Friendly service and great breakfast
- Diana Haynes (10/5): - A quiet back to nature place to stay tucked away by the lake. Clean with friendly staff. Restaurant downstairs. Has a pool and playground and a fishing pier. Room is basic and clean.
- Maria (8/5): Rustic and cozy - Went on a 2 night stay with my family. Our beds were listed as queens but were actually doubles, which was not what we wanted but we made it work. There were a few bugs in the room -- but I think they were from outside. This place is pretty rustic, but also cozy. I loved the balcony our room had facing the lake. There is basically nowhere to eat but the restaurant in the lodge in a 15-20 minute radius, so make sure to bring snacks. The park was lovely. We went to the lake and rented peddle boats with our kids, and went on a hike around the park. Good time and great little weekend trip.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Wonderful retreat in nature - While the rooms are dated, the location along the shores of Greenbo Lake is relaxing, quiet, and great for viewing the night sky. Breakfast from Angler's Cove Restaurant was delicious.
- William (10/5): - Convenient location,quiet and friendly.
No room microwave or fridge
- Holley (10/5): - It is am awsome getaway spot that most phones still work boats prices were reasonable and cant wait till i go again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Let’s see… Despite it was 88 degrees outside our room was super icy and chill.
The room is somewhat outdated. The bathroom is what I would describe as retro and I absolutely adored it. It’s very simplistic and somewhat on the small side but it’s a bathroom! There was also but load of various size towels in bathroom.
Bed was comfy and accompanied by 4(!) pillows and 2 comforters.
The TV is somewhat on the smaller side No premium channels. A few channels had issues. I.g. Lines running throughout.
Spacious ceilings and the overtook room itself was big
Parking was no issue.
Seriously LOTS to do. A single night isn’t enough to see all this place has to offer.
Location wise: It’s located up in the boonies but as a Eastern Kentuckian, I’m accustomed to the backroads and curves. Just be safe and be patient. Watch for wildlife. I ended up crushing a squirrel!
As far as dinning goes, I just stopped at a nearby gas station for snacks. If you’re going to eat out an actual restaurant.. I dunno.. I’m assuming you’ll need to drive at lest 15-20 miles away or the resort itself *may* offer meals.
The soda machine would not take my dollars. So having to ask the first desk for $4 in change was sorta inconvenience
Extra towels (2), toilet paper, and garbage bags were located in closet.
I’m looking forward to returning and staying 2-3 nights.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The front desk employee that initally checked me in was extremely friendly, and helpful. However, the restaurant in the lodge is only open on the weekends, so if you want food you must drive 15-20 minutes in town. Also, there was no way to store food in your room due to no refrigerator and no microwave.
During our stay, the electric went out for a couple hours for no known reason. So we had to leave for awhile because it was too hot in our room with no AC on a 90 degree day, but they did contact the power company in a timely manner and it all got sorted. Upon check out, the staff was extremely rude. I waited for the lady to look up from her computer to check me out, until I finally said "I'm ready to check out." Her response was, "He'll get you down there.." and she motioned to another employee who wasnt even logged onto his computer. So he started complaining, and taking other phones calls.. all the while I'm holding my baby and luggage. So the check out process took about 30 minutes.
All in all, the beds and rooms were very clean. I would recommend staying a night or two, but not making it a week long vacation. There is hiking trails, boating, and camping available.
- Rebecca (8/5): - From Check In to Check Out the staff was Polite and Informative.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The property outside was beautiful. Inside was pretty and clean however the air conditioner in our room kept making a loud clanking sound as it came on and off in which it did every 5 minutes. With our new baby it kept her awake as well as the neighbors dogs that never stopped barking. It was a decent weekend getaway with no sleep from the noise. But I would stay again just for the views. Also the restaurant was affordable and tasted wonderful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful lodge tucked away in a quiet park setting. Clean and comfortable with friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff was awesome. They were all very friendly and very helpful.. They are just getting back into the swing of things due to having the guests not able to be going with the virus. They are making strides in the Cafe. They are still not up with their menus or the buffet due to the regulations of the healt board. They do have the meals for each person to order. They are very helpful and friendly from the ground keepers to the head boss. My Daughter and I were very impressed with them all.
- DANA (10/5): Lovely staff and peaceful park - Exceptionally friendly and kind staff, clean rooms, service animal was welcomed and the park is splendid. I had to attend a funeral and the hotel in town canceled my reservation but it was very much worth the drive out of town to this Park location. Would return - it's excellent value.
- Janet (10/5): Weekend Getaway - Great Getaway
Lake, Hiking, picnic, history.
Alot of Family things to do.
I would definetly do it again.
- Christopher (8/5): Lots of wildlife - We had a great night there but we rode motorcycle from Indiana to there and found out in the morning that the local raccoons used our bike as a jungle gym an put holes in our backrest with there sharp claws, a lesson learned we should of brought a cover for the bike. We also saw 3 deer and a wild Turkey.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - No dining option on Wednesday.
Beautiful lake view
- Steven (10/5): Beautiful park, friendly staff - My stay at Greenbo Lake State Resort was wonderful. When I checked in, there was a storm in the area and power was out, but Michelle got me checked in and called me when the power was restored to complete the process. My room was clean and comfortable, but I would call their "double bed" more of an oversized twin. Unfortunately, the restaurant on site, Angler's Cove, is only open Thursday - Sunday (not usually, but they were having trouble staffing at the time I stayed there...COVID relief $??), so I missed the opportunity to eat there. The park is beautiful.
I checked out late a day early and Cole at the front desk thought I could be refunded the last night (I know it was a long shot). However, after I departed Cole spoke with his manager who said I checked out too late to get a refund. Cole called me to let me know so I wouldn't be looking for a refund on my credit card statement. That was a very professional and courteous action on his part.
All in all a very nice stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a good place to stay.
- Edward (8/5): - The only downfall honestly was lack of places to eat on site that were open.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love it here!!! Good price, not too crowded, very peaceful.
- Veronica (10/5): - We had never been there before and we were very pleased and will be staying many more times in the future.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The people working were amazing upon checking in. Check out the woman look lost and was slower than the south usually is.
Did not know what she was doing. Check out was about 20 minutes. Thank goodness for the shift change.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a very nice, peaceful and relaxing stay. Highly recommend
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful place, beautiful view, helpful staff. 5/5
- Brian (8/5): Nice, but overall service was lacking - The lodge was very nice and the room was clean. However, when I walked in to check in, I was left waiting for approximately 5 minutes before someone came out of the office (she was visible the entire time and saw me come in). Later, we discovered the ice machine was not producing ice. We walked to the front desk and were told to check other floors for ice. We weren't able to find ice and although it isn't a big deal, their customer service could have been better. The dining room was closed, but we were able to order dinner and go down to get it. The food was good and the service in the dining room was good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Room was fine, clean. Due to covid some stupid rules. You can order food by phone, have to go down to restaurant to pick it up but good luck finding anyone to come to the front. They are cooking or in he back. Food left at counter but you have to sign. If you charge to room why can you not have contactless pick up at the counter or drop off at your door?
Lobby closed, when I went to gift shop area in lobby to get a drink while restaurant was closed thy are quick to let you know you should not be there. Take a cooler with drinks, FYI. There is nothing close to hop out to a restaurant. Tacketts would be the closest
