- Alison (9/5): The only lodge in Cotopaxi National Park. Views of the volcano, hiking or horse trekking, loved it! - Great location, wonderful hiking, we wanted to stay for longer. We were upgraded to the VIP Suites because of a plumbing problem in our (Gold) room and we they upgraded us. Fabulous accommodation, choose it if you can. We had views of Cotopaxi volcano from the lounge and from our room and on our last night we saw the head torches of the climbers coming back down the volcano. It was a very special place to be. The staff took a bit of time to come around, but by the time we left we were on good terms. Good food in the restaurant, nice friendly chef, restaurant open all day

Las vistas que tienen hacia el Volcán Cotopaxi son espectaculares y vale completamente la pena hospedarse si desean tener más oportunidades de verlo despejado. El personal fue muy amable y atento en todo momento. Además, la comida del restaurante es deliciosa y con precios accesibles. Recomiendo mucho optar por la opción de realizar un recorrido en caballo, es una gran alternativa para disfrutar de las bellezas del parque.

Very cosy in the evening when staff come in and fire up the log burner in the room. Keeps you snugly warm all night. Excellent breakfast and dinner options. Loads of relaxing space outside the room. Very comfy bed, plenty of room. More info on park activities and maps etc. could be provided in the room or at least advised by staff. You only get any of this by going and asking. WIFI only works in the reception / restaurant area. Whilst it is advertised as available in the room it just didn't work.

El agua de la llave salía café y amarilla (aparente suciedad).

For activities, it’s close to the classic Cotopaxi hikes, and there are trails that you can take directly from the lodge. Plus they run horseback rides from here! As for the accommodation, the pictures don’t do it justice. The beds are comfy, the rooms warm, the showers hot, the staff accommodating, and the food delicious. But also the views of the volcano are phenomenal! We spent hours reading on the couches watching the clouds come and go, and especially enjoying the snow on the top of the volcano glowing in the moonlight. Nothing, it’s phenomenal!

Got carbon monoxide and food poisoning from our two night stay there - Location was great, located inside the cotopaxi park We got carbon monoxide poisoning in the room - enclosed with fireplace. We went into the room and slept for 5 hours during the day. We had a hard time waking up and developed headaches. We ruled out altitude because we had just came from Bolivia (La Paz/Uyuni/Potosi) and had slept on 4500m+. The moment we got some fresh air, we felt a lot better. When we asked for a detector, they first pretended that they had it and said they are sending someone to check. We waited outside the room (they were annoyed that we didn't take their word for it). After another nudge, the person came with an air freshener and said he didn't smell anything. They didn't have a carbon monoxide detector in their whole property. There was also no fire alarm in the room with the fireplace. We requested to switch to a different room. Afterwards, the staff became really annoyed with us. The tour they offered also was overpriced, and deceptive. They claimed to provide "lunch box" which was only a banana and a small pack of oreos, also didn't go to all the places listed in the tour. When we tried to argue, they said no you have to pay for lunch in the lodge and slammed the menu on the table. When we settled the bill, they tried to overcharge us by $300.

As construções vermelhas se adequam bem ao meio ambiente. Um ambiente de paz, rusticidade e sofisticação na medida certa. Toda tarde o simpático Alberto vinha acender a lareira do quarto, muito segura. Tem ambientes feitos para relaxar olhando o vulcão. Ficamos numa das cabanas gold, muito simples mas com a janela de vidro direto ao Cotopaxi, o que era maravilhoso. Poderia ter um lugar para colocar as roupas (armário). As peças do banheiro muito frágeis, o porta toalhas quase caindo. Ouvíamos com perfeição os outros quartos.
- Phalgun (1/5): - The hotel’s affiliated guide, Juan Carlos, berated me the entire way up and down the climb for the Cotopaxi volcano. He also started the climb 700 meters below all other climbers and only allowed me to rest at the base camp for 30 minutes while everyone was allowed to acclimate for 5 hours. On the way back down from the volcano, he ran down the slopes leaving me behind. I tried to catch up and ended up spraining my knee. He then yelled at me and blamed me for falling before continuing down the mountain without me. I fell again which prompted him to call me “ugly”. I lost his ice axe while falling when trying to catch up to him — leading him to state that I owed him money for it. He also made a false claim stating I told a couple on the mountain that my guide wanted to kill them I required medical attention following my descent. This hotel’s affiliated guide caused me physical trauma and needless emotional distress.

- Isadora (8/5): Simples para o preço pago. - Próximo ao vulcão Cotopaxi, tem opções de passeios a cavalo. O motorista que me enviaram foi muito amável, a equipe também foi gentil em geral. Eu havia solicitado que um motorista viesse me buscar na cidade de Machachi e aparentemente ele esqueceu. Mas consegui entrar em contato com o hotel e eles enviaram outro motorista. Há uma certa demora no retorno das mensagens. O custo do hotel está totalmente relacionado à localização. É uma acomodação simples, sem grandes comodidades para o preço pago.

J’ai trouvé les prix assez élevés pour des services qui n’étaient pas non plus exceptionnels (chambre assez simple…). Mais l’emplacement justifie complètement cela!

It is a perfect stay for hikers and climbers who are willing to spend several days in Cotopaxi valley. The sky at night…. Unbelievable! They have a very good wifi, rooms are big and clean, hot water. Stove works perfectly well - I left it on for a couple of hours, and warmed my room for the whole night. Several blankets. All cabins have a wonderful view of the mountains. I highly recommend!! It’s not related to the property, but something that you have to be aware of - roads are pretty challenging in Cotopaxi park even for experienced drivers. Make sure that you have an SUV or pickup truck to get there without having driving anxiety 😀luckily, rental company warned me in advance and they gave me suv. With a small car you can still get to the lodge (it’s just 2km away from the north entrance and road is more or less okay), but driving in Cotopaxi park is a challenge! Stay safe!

The food was great, even though the kitchen has to get their timing right because our dishes did not came at time to the table at lunch or dinner. The dining area serves delicious food for great prices. We had filet mignon for 15$ each. Again, coffee is not great, but it does the job. We took a 2 hour guided horse ride with a local fellow, it was wonderful to go out and see nature. Views of Cotopaxi were spectacular, the weather was great. Staff speaks english well enough to understand each other.

They do not speak English so I had to use my Google Translator and show it to them so they would even understand what I was asking.

- Julia (10/5): Breathtaking and unique. Would go back in an instant. - You cannot beat that view. Nicer facilities than pictured--clean and despite the traditional building design, it felt modern. Breakfast was traditional and delicious, meals were great, the woodstove kept the room incredibly cozy, sitting area was amazing, bedding and towels were good quality for a National park hotel, just loved it. The small children's playground was an excellent bonus that kept the little ones happy while the adults enjoyed the view. Staff was kind and helpful when another guest had a rude outburst (and broke a door slamming it) because a toddler in our party was crying at 4pm in the afternoon. They quickly and quietly moved him to another building, and the rest of the stay was without incident. We packed flashlights and camping lanterns expecting blackouts given the current power situation in Ecuador. I don't think we lost power when there for more than a little bit as the facility uses its own generator, but I'd recommend packing them for walking safely at night to see the incredible view of the stars. I wish we'd stayed longer than one night. The only things the property could improve on would be to have self-service hot chocolate (or even just powdered mix) at the coffee and tea station, a water cooler to refill our bottles without having to use more plastic waterbottles, and some outdoor (Adironack-style) chairs near the children's play area to just sit and enjoy the unbelievable view. Wait staff was pleasant but overburdened, seemed too busy despite the place not being at capacity, but we were fine enjoying the view while we waited. Booking.com, however, needs to fix whatever bug is in its software that seems to steer users toward booking 2 rooms when you want 1 room (what parent would want to put 2 children under 6 in their own room?), and deletes the children from the reservation after you book. I had to contact customer service for this reservation and another for the same problem, so it's not the property but the website.

Fantastic room with a lovely wood fire to keep you cosy. Restaurant food was good. If driving yourself allow a lot more time to get there - we nearly did not make it before park shut due to bad roads, cows and an accident (not us) slowing things dow. A little more choice on restaurant menu would be good.

Short term tourist are excempt of paying 15% IVA, be honest and do honest business. It is so frustrating and stressfull to deal with this dishonest attitude! For this stressful attitude I give you only 1 point. For all the foreign tourist fight for this wrong attitude! I finally did not pay the 15% IVA.

Several good hikes in the surrounding area. Altitude hit me hard but that's no fault of the Hacienda. It sits at 12,200 ft ASL so be prepared if you go. Also the road up is pretty rough but again through no fault of the Hacienda.

They're the only hotel inside the national park, and the views of the volcano are unbeatable. Food in the restaurant was good. The rooms were clean and the hot water good as well. The staff just said no. It didn't matter how simple the request, it was "no". Our group of 6 was the majority of the 8 guests there, and when we asked if the kitchen could make salchipapas a half-hour earlier than the "5-6pm" availability on the menu, they said they could make the fries, but not the hot dog. At breakfast, when my wife asked if they could replace the egg in her portion with more bread or fruit to accommodate her allergy, they said no. When we said we'd pay for the extra portion, then they thought about it and said they could. Also, the bedroom curtains suck. Trying to pull them across the rod, it just broke from the rings. Only because I was tall enough to stand on the windowsill and reach the rod, moving the rings one by one, could we close the curtains.
