- Cathie (3/5): Overpriced for the facilities, would not stay again or recommend. - It was warm with plenty of hot water, The pub next door was the best thing about this accommodation. The description online didn’t reflect the space. We booked this property to sleep four people. unfortunately the one double bed was in the main room ( with the kitchen), so once one couple got up everyone was up. This wasn’t ideal when we were heading out on the coast to coast walk at 5 am, and leaving my parents in bed. The taps where the wrong way round and unmarked, nothing was clean, the WiFi didn’t work unless you wanted to go down the lane and stand on the main road, the towels didn’t smell clean, the dishcloth that was left for us I would have only used to clean the floor.
- Alun (4/5): Disappointed - The location was excellent for the purpose of our stay. There is also a great pub opposite ( The Fox Covert). Lovely food, excellent choice of beers, a very welcoming feel to the place. I had originally booked a hotel for this visit to the area, but I decided that a self-contained accommodation would make the visit more enjoyable.so I booked the Byre for myself and my daughter. The listing states that this accommodation has two separate bedrooms. Upon arrival, I found this to be a slightly misleading description. The two single beds are in a separate room, but the double bed is in the kitchen dining area and not a separate room. If this was clearly stated in the description, I would never have booked as I expected the double bed to have its own room, The photos of the inside are taken to avoid showing the double bed in the dining/ kitchen area. The second issue was the wi-fi in the Byre. It didn't have any. When i raised this issue, I was given a wi-fi extender. This didn't help, I was told to log into the wi-fi next to a building at the bottom of the lane that contained the router, go back to my room, and I should then be able to use the wi-fi. It did connect here, but as I got closer to my accommodation, the signal gor weaker and was lost before I got in my room. When I spoke to the owner, she was aware of the poor signal but couldn't help any further. She did suggest trying to connect to the pubs wi-fi, but this was not possible. This is clearly an ongoing problem and should be identified on the accommodation description. The accommodation itself was ok, not the cleanest I have ever stayed in , dust in the cutlery drawer, and on some of the surfaces, but given the semi rural location some dust is to be expected. Instead of describing the accommodation as having 2 separate bedrooms, it should say 2 single beds in a separate bedroom and 1 double bed in the kitchenette / dining area. This is a much more accurate description.
- Mr (7/5): Motel style accommodation with an unusual style. - Quirky decor, easy parking, dog friendly (much appreciated). Pleasant person at reception. The place looked a bit ‘tired’ overall. Very quirky collection of decorative items were entertaining but actually the space could have been better used for, say, a clothes rail or shelves. The bathroom had not been decorated in years; something had been taken down from the wall but the gap had not been repainted, the bath edges were black in places. There was nowhere to wash eating/cooking equipment apart from the bathroom basin which is fine but… where to dry? One item of crockery had clearly been put back on the pile rinsed but not properly clean. Ours was one of maybe a dozen or more properties at over £100 per night, so there’s surely enough income to spruce up the accommodation a bit. We left with the feeling that the owners were happy to take the money but not invest it back into the properties.

- Janes (8/5): Perfect cozy cottage with amazing surroundings and local pub . - Me and my husband loved staying at this lovely cozy cottage with our 2 dogs who loved it there . Beautiful local walks . Perfect pub next door and staff were so friendly and welcoming. From the minute we arrived we felt so comfortable and that's what we needed due to travelling from Cornwall. I suffer with a bad back so the beds weren't very comfortable for me as i normally only can use memory foam mattress. The shower was quite small but other than that it was lovely and we will hopefully return in November. Maybe if another cottage is available the bed mat be better i will ask when we book .

The host was very friendly and helpful and our room was ready so could check in early. It definitely needs an overall and the bedding even though clean needs to be nice and fresh looking and feeling. Thought it was nearer Yarm centre. We like a nice walk but the walk into Yarm but was mainly on very busy main road.

I - The location for us was the reason we booked it as it was close to my family that we could walk wihh tbh out using taxis/public transport The staff were rude, the bed was uncomfortable. It was very close to the main road so this made it noisy and on a Saturday the pub has live music so in the cottage allocated to us you could definitely hear it.

- Jackie (4/5): Disappointing - Nice location, dog friendly, very helpful owner, lovely dog friendly pub within a short stroll. Nice hot shower, although strange having a clear bathroom window. There's not much room, very small double bed, and we're not big people. Unfortunately, it wasn't very clean, lots of cobwebs, no forks and only 1 cereal bowl. The rooms are definitely not soundproof, we stayed in a room next to a resident man and daughter, we're woken up both mornings at 7am, with loud talking and blaring tv, not good when having a little break away. Saturday morning at 4 am woken again, he decided to watch TV, so not much sleep that night.

The room had all the basic amenities we needed. A local takeaway delivered me a 'Parmo' which was an absolute treat. Very good value for money indeed

- Patrick (6/5): Not for me - I am not usually one to leave a review, These are very dated (they are supposed to be oldy worldy but this was just knocked together accommodation, i had the Hayloft room even though i had booked the Paddock, No WIFI even though it states you do, very noisy as i had an adjoining room, paper this walls, and the family in the Forge, just opposite my room let their children play in their car beeping the horn and flashing the lights until about 9 pm.

Handy lane for walking the dogs. There was nowhere to put soap or shower gel/shampoo in the shower cubicle. Toilet was on a plinth. Bit awkward being a smaller person.

- Martin (10/5): Lovely from start to finish. - We decided to go away for the evening at the last minute. After booking we checked in less than an hour later and the room was already ready for us. Got a really lovely welcome from the owner and was shown straight to the room. Our room was cozy and had everything we could want during our stay and more. The room was fully equipped to make our own food or there was a great pub right next door that did sit in or takeaway food. Their parmo was exceptional. The cottage was in a really lovely location that was so quiet and surrounded by gorgeous fields which our little dog enjoyed running around in. We’ve never stayed in a place that dogs were welcome before so it was amazing to be able to take him with us. All 3 of us slept like logs as the bed was so comfortable and the room was lovely and warm. I’d recommend this place to anyone as you definitely wont be disappointed. I’d go back today if I could. I have no complaints at all.
- John (10/5): Quirky beautiful rooms, perfect stay and dogs welcomed. - Dog friendly, quirky rooms that make it so special and a lively weekend away. The rooms were amazing. Pub next door had outstanding food too. Only the weather. But even that didn't stop it being a lovely break.
- Craven (4/5): Disappointed - The cottage was in need of refurbishment and it didn’t feel clean. Brown sheets on the bed is never a good sign. Bathroom very small. If I was a large lady I wouldn’t have been able to use the toilet.
- James (9/5): peace & tranquility - I liked the quirky style of the cottage and the layout and the styling, the hostess was lovely and polite and was approachable when needed. also are allowed pets so that’s the huge advantage and lovely pub just next to door too :) not a bad thing but thought they may have provided the extra little essentials like shampoo etc but overall that didn’t put off my lovely stay here as will come down again :)

- Claire (4/5): Needs a deep clean and revamp - The location was good, quiet, deadend road so good for late dog walks. Fox Covert is next door so very handy for drinks if not at Xmas which I when I stayed. Someone always on hand for questions. We requested a cottage with a bath but was chipped and sealant was coming away and discoloured so wasn't used. Cobwebs with heavy dust. Toaster in cupboard not cleaned from last use as breadcrumbs over top. Towels dampy mouldy smell on use which were exchanged for more smelly towels so also not used. Bed bottom sheet didn't fit bed ad kept coming off in night revealing no mattress protection. Glass and mugs were not clean so had to be washed before use on arrival. Pipes moved a lot on the bathroom sink so should be looked at. Marks on bathroom blind. Would be nice to have a sofa rather than a bed to lounge on watching TV or sat at dining table.
- Paris (4/5): Honestly I would say that the property needs updating a little, hot power shower and a comfy bed, a little more could be - The location was ok. I had made a mistake in my booking and it was no bother to book an extra night. The shower was poor and the bed wasn’t best comfortable, the two main things you expect really as it was only a base to wash and sleep while up meeting family.
- Nathan (3/5): Poor - Nice staff, seemed like a cozy place Unfortunately they'd had a power cut before I arrived. Not their fault but they supplied me with a single candle for light and warmth. No hot water either as it was an electric shower

- Donna (4/5): Angie treats her guests like gold! - Angie was absolutely wonderful to us during our stay. She is kind, accommodating and takes great pride in her cottages. We just found the cottage to be a bit tired. Perhaps needs a bit of a freshening up.

- Ben (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect location for my stay. Right next door to a pub serving excellent food for meals and breakfast and good prices. Staff were very friendly and efficient with excellent communication and flexible with check in time. Rooms have hot drinks making with tea/coffee etc facilities but had no fresh milk. But there is a garage a short walk away with sells everything, but this is really not worth mentioning - just done it to fill the box!

- Martin (6/5): Great Location - First night was not so good as the Cottage was near a main road with street lamps beaming light directly into the cottage. The host moved us the next day without any issues.

- Verified traveler (8/5): - this place was quaint, out of the way and had a lovely pub beside it. although the pub didn’t offer vegan options for food, we were able to make use of the mini fridge, microwave, kettle and cutlery given in our cottage. it had a VERY comfy bed may i add, however walls were very thin and we could hear all of the conversations the people in the cottage next door were having. seating area provided right outside your door step to soak in the sun too if you fancied it. however a more private area/back garden would improve this facility

- Daniela (4/5): Def not worth £70 - Very small room with very thin walls. I was woken up by neighbours. There was dust on the floor, crumbs all around appliances, black mould in the bathroom and dirty floor mats. The bed was not as supporting and mattress deformed significantly. Tired towels and bathroom poorly ventilated
- Michael (4/5): Disappointed - First impressions were lovely and welcoming. However I was very disappointed with the room: There was no Wifi, not available networks were detected TV didn’t’t work, I know these thing happen and would’ve been fine however the TV controller was filthy and wouldn’t have been keen to use it. The toilet would’ve been a tight squeeze for a large person, the shower tiles were dirty and mould in the corners. The toilet brush had faeces on it. The shower room was very small and to get dressed you had the walk through the kitchen which was beside a road and no curtains. Sorry I don’t like to leave negative reviews but this was an exception. I did take photos but think it best not to include.
