Guest Reviews
- Bryan (8/5): Good location for visiting the Reagan Library or a jumping off point for destinations north of LA. - The host was very pleasant.
Good location for visiting the Reagan Presidential Library or a jumping off point for destinations north of LA.
Nice, quiet neighborhood. Good place to take an evening stroll. The walls are a bit thin. Recommend bringing earplugs if you are a light sleeper. I always travel w/ them so I didn't have any problems.
Bathroom could be a little more spacious.
- Byron (10/5): Exceptional - Nice place to sleep. Affordable too!
- Irv (7/5): Very convenient to my daughter, all else was ok. - Location, ample and healthy food amount was provided, hostess very nice Very think walls, could hear the family, bed was squeaky
- Anton (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional - I needed to stay somewhere last minute and this location was such a godsend.
- Demonte (9/5): We enjoyed meeting Rina, and the simple but clean accommodations were just right for us. - The location halfway between Northridge and Sherman Oaks was precisely right for us, for this trip. Rina is hospitable, friendly and accommodating! The bagels, schmear, and orange drink provided for breakfast and the snacks were an added pleasant surprise. The room and location are quiet. I always prefer 100% cotton sheets, but the percale were just fine.
- Nader (7/5): Good -
- Isaac (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kouhei (10/5): Exceptional - The breakfast was delicious and the facilities were good.
- Dirk (7/5): Good -
- Ambi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maine (9/5): Near Perfection - Love the hospitality and service. The location was amazing for our needs. The Bed, the boxspring was too noisy.
- Krys (10/5): The room and host was amazing. We will be back, and am so thankful to have found Summer Leaf. - Rina was an amazing host to her beautiful property. The area was lovely to walk and the perfect location. The room was clean and comfortable and food provided a special treat. We will be back. Thank you for making us feel at home. All was perfect.
- Michael (10/5): - I really hit the jackpot when I selected this property. I was greeted and warmly welcomed at the door by host Rena who showed me around. Her motherly spirit was evident in the care she put into the unit. From extra towels, to water and orange juice in the fridge and cookies, apples, and flowers on the dining table. The bed was wonderfully comfy with extra blankets available in the closet. As a single female I also appreciated the very bright automatic light that comes on as you approach the door after dark.
The construction of this unit was clearly a previous part of the family home that had been sectioned off with a wall to create a self-contained separate external locked-door-accessible apartment. Homey wooden floors, an immaculately clean bathroom stocked with all the amenities of a better hotel, a dining table with two chairs, a fridge, a microwave, a toaster, and an electric kettle were all included.
I work in real estate in Tokyo and we call this a "grandmother's apartment" because often an extended family here has a separate attached residence for grandma as part of their home.
The neighborhood is best described as upscale and is a network of wide tree-lined streets of family home after family home. Very safe and easy to walk, with lots of free street parking available too.
If you are looking for a place in the valley and want to have a home away from home I cannot recommend this beautiful property enough!

- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional - Cozy, comfortable bed, well appointed room with home feeling. Check in was great and welcoming. Bagels, juice & coffee provided in the room!! WiFi, mini fridge, microwave, and electric kettle. Enjoyed my stay.
- Irene (10/5): - Excellent, accommodating Host. Very Helpful. It would be useful to have a lamp next to the bed or a light you could turn on from the bed. Otherwise, a very comfortable space and very clean. Very convenient to the Northern side of LA. You don’t have to fight the LA awful traffic to go most places on the North side. I would stay there again
- Mark (10/5): Privacy - This was the perfect home base for me to visit family...three blocks away. Shopping and great restaurants are only a few miles away and LOTS of choices. And Rina the host went above and beyond to assist in check in and out, and when I locked myself out. Clean and quiet. On street parking right in front of the house. Nice family neighborhood with well kept homes.
- Radoš (9/5): Great stay - Rina is an awesome woman and we were glad that we can stay in a cozy place. The neighborhood is quiet and in a quite good spot to get to the right places.
- Alan (8/5): Very good - Rina was pleasant and attentive The shower was a little small for me
- Naguib (8/5): Very good - Very quiet street with no through traffic. Ms. Rina, the host was accommodating and friendly.
- Maria (9/5): overall very satisfied. - very nice area and wonderful host
- Chad (10/5): Exceptional - The space, though quaint, it worked perfectly for my stay. If was very clean and comfortable! The kitchenet area, again, worked perfectly for my needs, with a fridge, microwave, toaster, and a coffee maker.
- John (8/5): Quiet and clean. Great for solo traveler. - Perfect for the solo traveler. Room is small but has a twin sized bed, dining table with 2 chairs, a sitting chair, mini fridge, tv, and bathroom with shower. Quiet location. Host was very responsive. Bed was very firm.
No electrical outlets next to the bed.
I didn't find a thermostat control.
- Carl (10/5): Very pleasant. I would stay there again. - Location to our business dealings and clealiness of the property. I assumed it had 2 beds, but that was my fault. However, Nina accommodated our needs and supplied us with an air mattress as an additional bed.
- Harby (10/5): Very welcoming hosts, very spacious room, and a very quiet area. - Rina and her husband are exceptional people, very warm, helpful and thoughtful. They were always available whenever I texted her to ask for something.
The room itself is spacious and very clearn. Rina even stuffed the small fridge with bagel, jusice, milk, biscuits, etc., which was a very generous, unexpected gesture.
I wish them well, and hope to stay at their place again in the future when I'm in the area. Nothing
- Jan (9/5): A peaceful base to start your daily trips in the area from and to come back to in the evening. - An excellent little guest room for one of two people. The friendly hostess provides some food and drinks and is available for any requests that you may have.
- Patricia (8/5): Hoping it is available again when I am back to visit my CSUN student! - The host was kind and accommodating. The space was small but had what was needed to be comfortable and pleasant. the neighborhood was quiet and pretty. Had to rely on the kindness of strangers in the neighborhood and they did not disappoint during this stay! Maps has a bit of a difficultly finding the exact address, as it has an entrance just left of the front door.
- Brophy (9/5): Superb -
- Murray (5/5): Passable -
- Oksana (8/5): - It was a bit warm at night time, otherwise, it's nice to stay
- Alejandra (10/5): - Incredible place to live a good time. I recommend to it too much. The owners are very amazing with us and they are respectful that it for us is very important.
- Terry (6/5): - It was fine to my standards, but could have saved a couple hundred at other facilities. I expected more for the price.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Tiny room with thin walls, you can hear the conversations from the house next door. Hard, squeaky bed. No A/C, hot. Bedding and towels are old, pillows on the bed are old and flat and only one for each side. The bathroom was dirty, there were poop flecks in the toilet leftover from the last guests. For a bed and breakfast, the bed and the breakfast were sad. Bagels and granola bars. Super disappointed with this place. Definitely looked better in the pictures.
- David (10/5): - Staying at the Summer Leaf was a delight. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Rina!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful stay with a very attentive host. Everything I needed in a neat little room
- Verified traveler (10/5): - rina is so warm, welcoming, and accommodating. i feel like i am home in the best way--safe, cared for, even spoiled.
- David (6/5): - First of all, there was just my wife and I.
Pros: Rina, our host, was very accommodating and attentive. If the review was just for her she would rate a 5. If you've ever backpacked across Europe, I'm sure this room would be pleasantly nostalgic.
Neither pro nor con: The room was small, clean and minimally furnished. Tiny bathroom. Dorm sized refrigerator on a wooden box with microwave sitting on top.
Cons: No place to put clothes. No dresser or shelves. I've lived out of a suitcase before but there wasn't even a stand for the
suitcase. We brought carry-ons only. We used the only chair and the floor. ## No facilities for fresh coffee. Instant coffee only. ##
No washcloth provided, had to ask. She brought a few. They were old and well used...but clean. ## Construction noise. They were converting the garage into another room next door. We weren't told about this. The hammering started at 9am or so. It had been a long drive the day before and we could have used the rest. Not a restful time. ## The bed...hard and uncomfortable. ## No electrical outlets near the bed for charging cell phones or.. ## a small table partially blocked the narrow walkway leading to the room entrance. You had to kind of scoot by.
- Kevin (10/5): Summer Leaf Hosts 49 Years of Bliss SOMO TOGO - The Private Home hosts were very friendly and inviting. The room was spotless and had a nice basket of goodies, fresh fruit and granola. There was milk for coffee and a coffee pot.
By having a private entrance with full bath it was the best of both worlds.
The Hosts lives and long ago immigrant stories was fascinating. The couple celebrated 49 years of marriage while I was there. And it's easy to see they're still best friends and genuinely enjoy sharing with each other. Witnessing that alone was worth the price of admission! I'd recommend the Summer Leaf hands down!!! :)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - rina is a gracious, friendly, caring, solicitous host. i loved my stay here last june and loved it more this year! i had a few requests (i.e., breakfast foods), all of which were kindly fulfilled. the space is peaceful and safe; the location is great. i hope to stay at summer leaf on my next trip to visit my family.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quiet location, highly recommend if you want a restful stay
- M (8/5): - Nice studio like accommodation, convenient depending where you want to be.
The staff/ Owner is very pleasant and helpful.
standard good breakfast and separate shower.
- Muhammed (10/5): - See my initial impressions! They were right! I loved it!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - rina, hostess/manager, was delightful, helpful. and attentive. i loved the privacy and i loved the very convenient location in a cute, safe, residential area there was a drop in temps, and the dpace heater saved the day. i would return..
- Martin (8/5): Nice room in the Valley - This was a perfectly fine place to stay, as I was on a research trip and it was perfectly situated between Northridge and Westwood. The place was clean and the host was very friendly, attentive, and responsive to my requests. I was by myself so the space was enough. I think it would have felt a bit cramped if there was another person with me for a week. There isn't really a sitting area (only a straight back chair next to the bed and a small dinet set for two). But if you're not planning on spending a lot of time in the room, then the space is ideal for one person and fine for two people. The main issue I have with Summer Leaf is that there is an automatic $180 fee for "extra guest." I was alone and when I asked if the fee could be taken off I was informed that it couldn't. So if you're going to book this place and you are a single individual, make sure to try to get the "extra guest" fee waived before you finalize the reservation.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice Clean Home Place - Sweet host and the room was nice and clean on a quiet street yet convenient. Would stay again.
