• Yewan (9/5): great location. large rooms. - Loved the view from the breakfast roof terrace. hot tub in the room was nice. Saverio was very good to communicate with. restaurants nearby were great. 3 nights there was perfect. the walk from the parking to the hotel with the luggage was a bit of a pain. but that's all you can do with your staying in a no traffic zone. same as in most 'old towns'. perhaps they could arrange luggage transfers. no big deal tho, about 600m walk.

He communicated with us a couple of days before we were to arrive, was helpful with the parking situation, and gave us a lot of information about the area. He was very personable. The breakfast was also great. A fresh omelet and bacon everyday, along with the normal pastry, juices and fruits. We parked our car and never moved it for 3 days, because the location of Residenza il Barone was central. Unfortunately there was no elevator, but I think that is the price you have to pay for being in the center. Saverio also helped with carrying the luggage, making it easier to manage.

• Jennifer (10/5): Wunderschönes Gebäude und liebevolle Menschen tolle Atmosphäre - Die Unterkunft hat eine perfekte zentrale Lage. Sie ist mitten in einem schönen Innenhof und somit ruhiger. Umliegend von kleinen Gässchen und auch direkt Zentral . Die Dachterasse und das Frühstück war ein Traum. Wunderschön. Saverio stand jederzeit zur Verfügung und hat uns eine sehr gute Anleitung und Begleitung zum alleinigen Check In geführt. Sehr ausgezeichnet. Mit viel Liebe und Mühe wurde alles sorgfältig erklärt und tolle Restaurant Tips gegeben. Am Ende erhielten wir noch eine Flasche Rosé um den letzten Abend ausklingen zu lassen. Einfach wie in einem Film.

• Haggis360 (10/5): A place to which one would want to return. - The short review is that Residenza il Barone can be recommended without reservation as a wonderful, comfortable, and friendly base for a stay in Tropea which we have done now on two occasions. The location is perfect and could not be bettered being right in the middle of the historic centre just 20m off the main Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. Your host is Saverio is fantastic; nothing is too much trouble, he has a genuine passion and pride in the Residenza and in looking after his guests which he does with a friendly smile, kindness, and efficient competence. Saverio has a real knowledge of Tropea and the surrounding area; we found his recommendations to be extremely helpful - for example which restaurants, beach clubs, trips and outings, and shops to try (or to avoid). Rather than write specific recommendations for restaurants here, I strongly suggest you just ask Saverio; from simple pizza to fresh tuna and everything in-between, his suggestions did not disappoint and we enjoyed in particular the distinctive Calabrian - rather than generic Italian - touches on the menus. The rooms at Residenza il Barone are spacious, well-appointed, kept spotlessly clean, and reached by a set of internal stairs; there is no lift, but Saverio will fetch and carry larger items like any luggage (without you needing to ask). Breakfast is taken on the lovely rooftop terrace with views of the volcano Stromboli in the distance and is served by Signora Livy and Signora Francesca; they are very helpful and besides the usual self-service fruit, yogurt, juices, bread and the like, they will bring you croissants (cornetti in Italian), cook up omelettes, eggs, and a number of other items on request. From the UK, TUI fly direct to Lamezia Terme from Manchester and London Gatwick, and Ryanair from Stansted; if you do not want to hire a car, Saverio will organise a taxi (€90 in 2025). Tropea is a lovely destination in a relatively unspoiled part of Italy, it is better value than many comparable Italian resorts, and probably the only criticism I might have is that one or two bars and cafes on the Corso have music that is perhaps too loud. A stay with Saverio in the Residenza il Barone makes for a wonderful break as made clear in this very positive review; it is a place to which one would want to return.
• G6389AK (6/5): Average - Rooms are clean but spartan. Attic rooms have quite a sloped ceiling so be aware when standing up near the bed. Bathroom is decent sized but the shower is impossibly small for an adult. Breakfast has a great view but the offerings are limited and below what we experienced in other European properties. Desk is only manned during the day. Past 5pm, the doors are locked and the only way to communicate is via text. Owner/manager is very enthusiastic. Good location. Nice restaurant right outside the door.

• meyer (5/5): Average stay, rooms were clean but spartan; shower was too small. Would not return - The location was good but directions to the parking area were not good. There are many one way streets and pedestrian only areas that made finding the parking difficult - especially at night. The location for breakfast was pretty and the staff was helpful. Breakfast, itself, was disappointing. No fruit, meat, cheese, etc. It looked like eggs could be ordered but we only found that out when we saw another couple with an omelet. Desk agent was helpful when he was there. As the sole person, his hours were limited and texting was the only way offered to get assistance when needed. No elevator which wasn't a big concern for us but it is not a place for anyone with mobility issues. The shower was so small - I am under 5'6 and slim; I could not take a shower comfortably.

Before we'd even left home, Saverio was already helping ensure our journey to our accommodation was trouble-free. This same high level of service was then maintained every day after. • Reinhard (10/5): Gepflegte Unterkunft in altem Palazzo - Die Unterkunft liegt sehr zentral mitten in Tropea in einem sehr gepflegten alten Palazzo .Die Zimmer sind geräumig und zurückhaltend gediegen möbliert. Wunderbar ist die Dachterasse auf der gefrühstückt wird und wo man abends noch den Tag ausklingen lassen kann. Saverio ist einfach großartig: Immer hilfsbereit,immer ein freundliches Wort . Der beste Gastgeber ever . Abends kann es von dem Ristorante im Innenhof etwas laut werden .Hält sich aber in den Italien üblichen Grenzen.Uns hat es nicht groß gestört

• Pat (10/5): A wonderful stay at Residenza il Barone! - The Residenza il Barone is located right in the middle of the historic old town. The building is beautifully maintained. We were warmly welcomed by Saverio and his staff. Breakfast was freshly served on the terrace overlooking the square and with a gorgeous view of the sea. Saverio also graciously provided us with beach towels and an umbrella to take to the beach. Parking is a bit of a problem, but not the fault of the Residenza. They are in the historic town and traffic is limited.

• 718mladeng (10/5): An unforgettable holiday! - These were two unforgettable weeks in Tropea. Residenza Il Barone is located in the heart of the historic center. All restaurants and attractions are within walking distance. A very beautiful city. The rooms are very clean, cozy and comfortable. A special highlight in the room was the jacuzzi, our children were delighted. The room had everything you need, even more. A special pleasure was the breakfasts on the terrace, which overlooked the old town, the sea and the Stromboli volcano. We were served by two very nice women, everything was very tasty and satisfying. And in the evening you can watch the sunset from this terrace. Special thanks to Saverio, the owner of the hotel. He began to take care of our holiday even before we arrived there. He answered all our questions. He solved all our questions regarding the transfer. Upon arrival, he gave us great advice on restaurants and excursions. And organized an unforgettable boat excursion along the coast to Capo Vaticano. He took an active part in organizing our holiday throughout our stay in Tropea. If you are still wondering where to stay in Tropea, stay at Residenza Il Barone, you won't regret it!

A lovely welcome by Severio who could not be more helpful and was full of great advice about the local area. The suite was extremely airy and comfortable and kept spotlessly clean every day. Breakfast was great every morning sitting served by lovely ladies on the rooftop terrace with amazing views over the town and out to sea. Next time I am in the area there is only one place I would stay as I cannot see how anywhere else could ever be better.

Saverio was very responsive over WhatsApp It wasn’t a problem for us but there is no lift and the stairs to the terrace are steep. Saverio took our cases up and down the stairs.

• vagabonontheroad (10/5): Perfect accommodation for a great vacation - We have stayed for the third time in this excellent appartment, situated in the centre of the old part of Tropea. The host, Saverio, is very kind and helpful, the breakfast staff extremly friendly and amicable. The rooms in an old historic building, just a corner away from the main square of the centre, are modern, very clean and well equipped. Breakfast is served on a roof terrace, with great views over old Tropea. As long as there is no live band playing on the main squaire, it is very silent, as the old part of Tropea is practically a car-free zone.

• 501jamesg (10/5): Perfect in many ways, and thank you to Saverio and his lovely staff - We spent four nights at Residenza il Barone and had a great time. First, Saverio; he is the perfect host. He is polite, patient, and very helpful. He communicated with us by WhatsApp before we arrived and sent clear instructions of how to find the hotel from the train station. He had many recommendations for restaurants [fyi, we enjoyed the Forno Vecchio, and Il Convivio], and guided us on how to find a particular beach we wanted to go to [Spiaggia di Michelino - which was definitely worth the 45 minute walk from Tropea]. All round very decent guy who does his job extremely well. He even lent us an umbrella one day [though we didn't need it in the end!]. We stayed in the Junior Attic room which was spacious, clean and comfortable with a good shower and bathroom ensuite. The free loan of beach towels is a bonus, as is fresh bottled water every day. Wi-fi in the room wasn't always reliable but you can find it on the main staircase if you don't mind hanging around on the landing. Breakfast on the roof terrace is lovely, served by the wonderful Mrs Lizy and Mrs Francesca. Fresh fruit, yoghurt, toast, croissant, coffee and/or tea, fruit juices, water, omelettes etc. Overall, we had a great stay, and the Residenza Il Barone is perfectly located in Tropea's old town being close to shops, restaurants, concert venues etc. Also worth a mention is the nearby Minimarket da Pina where we bought daily supplies of cheese, olives, vegetables, and gorgeous dried figs stuffed with either walnuts or almonds. Thank you Trope and its people for being so kind and hospitable.

• Leanne (10/5): Friendly, comfortable and convenient stay - The spacious room was located in a historical building and had two large French doors and a jacuzzi, with an abundance of natural light. The hotel was very centrally located and convenient. Our host, Saverio was outstanding and made many helpful recommendations. Breakfast was available on an open air roof top terrace which was nice. The bed was very comfortable and shower had great water pressure. There was a restaurant in the courtyard below which was a bit noisy until 10.30pm. But it is hard to achieve peace and quiet when you are benefitting from such a central location.
• Ralf (10/5): Zentral und ruhig Frühstück auf der Dachterrasse - Mitten im Zentrum von Tropea und doch ruhig (Ende September) Unser Zimmer war sehr groß mit Jacuzzi Frühstück auf der Dachterrasse mit Blick zum Stromboli. Die beiden Damen sind ebenfalls sehr freudlich. Saverio hat eine sehr freundliche Art. Man fühlt sich sofort sehr wohl. Er hat viele Tipps für gute Lokale. Zum Stadtstrand nur ein kurzer Treppenabstieg. Von Il Barone werden kostenfrei Strandtücher zur Verfügung gestellt.Das Wasser ist traumhaft klar.

Deluxe room did have loud adjacent church bells that woke us up at 7am/ 7:30 etc. normally wouldn’t have bothered us… but felt more disruptive than it should have only because the A/C (weak to begin with) turned off several times during the night and would not come back On for some time. With 80 degree temperatures in the room (August is hot!) , we were VERY hot/ had trouble sleeping. Cant say enough about how wonderfully helpful the host was though. With parking, luggage, logistics… and location was the absolute BEST!! Convenient to everything yet in a quiet courtyard. Hard to find at first (upon arrival).

Un enorme Grazie a Saviero che è stato super gentile e onesto dall’ inizio del viaggio, cominciando dal parcheggio dell’auto che ha trovato una ottima soluzione. Da quando siamo arrivati all’hotel si è sempre interessato che non ci mancasse nulla e ci ha sempre dato consigli su posti e spiagge da visitare e un grande supporto per prenotare qualsiasi esperienza si voglia fare, cosa da non sottovalutare, davvero Top!! Le colazioni sono super abbondanti e puoi chiedere di tutto hai una vasta scelta di prodotti freschi e pronti le cuoche / cameriere sono state super cordiali e alla mano. Un posto dove sicuramente ci torneremo. Ci tengo a precisare una super pulizia!

• Sciotto (10/5): Trip to Tropea - My wife and I spent 7 nights at Residenza Il Barone, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to visit Tropea. The room was spacious and clean. We loved the breakfast on the rooftop terrace - the view was beautiful and there was lots of delicious food (we especially loved our morning omelettes and fresh baked croissants). It was a perfect way to start the day. Also, the location was perfect, as we were only a short walk from the beach or any of the amazing restaurants in the area. Another reason we would highly recommend staying here is due to the host - Saverio. Saverio was fantastic and went above and beyond in order to make sure that our stay was as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Even before we left for our trip, he had sent us messages to ensure we knew how to get there ok. He was always offering his help in any way he could, and was very helpful in organizing boat trips for us, as well as our taxi home. He also gave us tons of restaurant recommendations - all of which were delicious! When we eventually return to Tropea, we already know we would book here again. Everything was amazing!

• Michael (9/5): A perfect place to stay in Tropea - Particularly loved having the good breakfast on the terrace overlooking the town and the sea. The position was perfect, in the centre of the old town, just a 10min walk from the railway station and then not far from either the beach or harbour. Saverio, our host was always on hand to give us advice or help, including carrying our bags to and from our room on the 2nd floor! Nothing. I didn't bother us but there are steps up to the rooms.

• Lottie (10/5): Beautiful hotel, with wonderful staff - WOW. What an amazing place. We loved the traditional stone architecture and spacious room. The location is central and 100m from the main piazza with great places to eat, drink and watch live music. Salverio is such a gracious and helpful host, he helped us book trips, taxis and even posted our post cards for us! Breakfast on the terrace each morning was a real highlight. Stunning views across the ocean. The staff also accommodated my vegan friend by making her soy cappuccinos. Thank you!

It is located almost in the centre of Tropea, despite this position the rooms were quiet.Saverio was really helpful and always in touch with us by whatsupp.The service was great, they kept our room always clean, coming every day from the beach, we appreciated it.It was possible to use the hotel roof terrace anytime.We had a coffee machine in the room, coffee and sparkling/still water everyday was free, small things makes the difference.We ejoyed our stay, Tropea is beautiful place. There is nothing to mention.

• Daniela (10/5): Simply the best - Perfectly located in the heart of the beautiful old town of Tropea, this accommodation was our most favourite during out 6 week tour of Italy. We had two rooms and both were super clean, spacious and well appointed. The building itself is an old palace situated on a small piazza off the main drag. The children loved the spa and with a stunning beach (one of the best in Italy) only a short walk away, we were spoilt for choice. The breakfast on the roof top terrace has a stunning view and was a highlight. Saverio was a perfect host and provided us with recommendations on where to go and which travel groups to sight-see with. We were very happy with all of his recommendations. We loved Residenza il Barone and can't wait to get back. It was perfect
