Guest Reviews
- nicola (10/5): - It’s an old hotel - shared bathroom down the hall - the room had kettle, fridge, tv, reversible aircon, room serviced daily - nice busy bar with good food choices… great location. Friendly, helpful staff.
- steve (10/5): - 😎😊
- Greg (10/5): - Great place great food
- Matt (10/5): - Staff were awesome, especially the manager. Cheap & close to everything. Will stay again
- Sue (10/5): - Loved the location and friendly vibe.
- Robbyn (10/5): - Manager phoned the day before to ask what time I was arriving. Close to walk to cafes and waterfront. On the bus route. In-house restaurant was very nice.
A great restoration of an old building.
- Brigette (6/5): - The room.was so bright from.the outside lights that made it difficult to fall asleep
- Sharon (8/5): - Location is nearby the Markets, so convenient to food, shopping etc.
The Norfolk is old-style, but simple, clean and convenient.
The shared bathroom is fine, as in three days I didnt see anyone else using it.
- Cheuk Hin Sherman (10/5): - Very clean even though bathroom is shared. Very unique architecture and the pub is simply amazing in terms of environment and also food and beer!
- Leroy (8/5): - Value for money
- Sandra (10/5): - Old but quaint room’s, free parking. Love the free drink vouchers, good food and great selection of beer and wine
- Steven (6/5): - Old and basic but clean ,3 set of stairs from from car park or 2 sets of stairs from st level .I have a bung knee but was still doable. But price suited facility, Pub food options good a lot slow smoked meats
- Helen (8/5): - Convenient location, very friendly, helpful staff. Clean. Shower in shared bathroom not user friendly, layout needs re-designing.
- Beth (10/5): - I had a fantastic stay at the Norfolk Hotel. Staff were highly attentive and friendly. Rooms were clean and serviced daily. Overall a perfect location, just a short walking distance to the main area of Freo.
- Dan (8/5): - Room and bathroom all that you need. Food and alcohol onsite. Quick walk to everywhere and free parking. Staff super friendly and helpful.
- Paulina (10/5): - The room was comfortable and the staff really kind.
- TIMOTHY (10/5): Recommended for solo travellers. - Great Location, Great bar , amazing food.
- Joachim (6/5): - As a likely tourist venue for retirees, the Norfolk Hotel would fail any Risk Assessment. There is no lift and there are 2 sets of internal stairs and 1 set at the Main Entrance without a handrail!!! Any fall would warrant litigation!I I could NOT have managed these on my own.
The bed in Room 8 is so close to the wall that getting in and out was very difficult. Food very expensive compared with ourSunshine Coast pricing. Service great.
- John (10/5): - Great experience the staff were all excellent and the food fantastic
- Hui Lan (8/5): - Located above a busy pub. Can be noisy. Our twin room was cozy. The shared bathroom was just along the corridor and clean. Staff is friendly and luggage storage is available.
- Robert (10/5): - Once again...great staff, good location, always enjoyable stay.
- Beverley (10/5): - The staff were amazing, I would like to make special mention of Gerry, always smiling and absolutely nothing was too much to ask of him.
My room was so comfortable with my own coffee machine. I was tossing up if to write anything because once the secret us out the place will always be booked out.
The food was Asian inspired and delicious, the pizza's top level.
I am a chef and have been in hospitality in various roles since I was fifteen. Not very often you get a venue that ticks all the boxes.
I will be back and soon.
- NG (8/5): Aye to Fremantle. - Service quality was EXCELLENT. Very responsive to request. Special mentioned to Anthony. Only -ve are having to lug luggages up narrow staircase, guest access door lock position needs to be higher n lock handle needs changing. Need for hanger hook in WC. Nowhere to hang apparel when using WC. Something needs to be done on noises by ppl outside hotel room especially late into the night after midnight.
- Katrina (8/5): - Very good value and excellent location
- Robert (10/5): - Highly recommended for Travellers
- Simon (8/5): - Very clean and parking included
- Daniel (8/5): - Easy access to all fremantle has to offer.
- Truus (10/5): - Wonderful atmosphere. Great location
- Robert (10/5): - Great Staff throught out , well done!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Couple weekend - Old hotel with great vibe, wonderful food, in the heart of old Fremantle
- Malcolm (10/5): - Location.
- Martin (8/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff. Great location if you don't mind a bit of noise. My room had an unpleasant odour on arrival but opening the window seemed to quickly fix this. Left the window open so was noisier (traffic, mainly) than would otherwise have been the case. Room was basic, but clean and had everything I needed and nothing that I didn't. Shower in the tiny ensuite had excellent water pressure and got hot. Enjoyed my complimentary beer in the cosy bar downstairs.
- George (6/5): Norfolk - Had room facing onto the road, crowd noise from outside was pretty loud, maybe some heavy blackout curtains would help a little.
Otherwise stay was pretty good, nice to get a free drink voucher when we arrived.
- Malcolm (8/5): - Central to Freo tourism options.
- Paul (8/5): - Probably a better stay than I was expecting - it can always be a bit dicey staying above a pub, but I had no problems. If there was music on late, I couldn't hear it and my neighbours were quieter than some places I've stayed lately. The room was small but did the job & the shower was great. I will definitely be back at some stage.
- Joanne (10/5): - Very close to everything,
They allowed me to check in early,
I found all the staff very friendly and helpful,
A nice room ,
- Adam (10/5): - Always a fantastic stay at the Norfolk. Awesome staff very welcoming and very convenient location. Cannot rate it highly enough 🙂
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Easy and a great a
- Sara (8/5): - Everything was excellent, particularly the friendly service. Food was also good, clean facilities. The only note is that it can be a little noisy untill the restaurant and bar closes.
- Tracey (8/5): - Nice place to stay but don’t stay on a friday
- Chloe (6/5): - Great location and staff but the room was very average, there was bright light shining in all night, a dust filled vase of fake flowers and the woodsmoke came up the stairwell and made the rooms smell aweful.
- Jamie (6/5): - Start with the fact that is a good price point and well, has some rustic charm. One thing to make travellers aware of is that the rooms are located above the back kitchen and there are two large meat smokers pumping continuously til late into the night. It triggered my asthma and had a bad night’s sleep on ventolin all night. Raised the issue with the manager and they arranged to move me to a room across the hall, but it wasn’t any better unfortunately. Don’t get me wrong this is not a Karen review, just to make those with respiratory conditions aware this could be a major concern. Second point I would make is that I wasn’t sure what was meant by shared bathroom, it was not a shared ensuite but a dorm style bathroom that was gender divided. Again, didn’t know to expect that, so perhaps a picture on the listing would provide for no surprises. I think I had well-calibrated expectations around the rustic nature of the stay, the noise of a good pub etc.
- Annette (8/5): - Friendly and very helpful staff.
- Jan (8/5): - all good
- Tau (2/5): - The worse place I’ve ever stayed
- Simon (8/5): Forty Eight hours in Freo! - Nice little hotel in an old historic building. Room was cosy and clean, bed was comfortable and staff were friendly.
Wood smoker starts up about 6.30 in the morning, so be sure you like the smell of a wood fire to wake up to.
Make sure you get the rooms with the ensuite as the share bathrooms are quite limited.
Within walking distance of most attractions.
- Kaitlyn (8/5): - A great value option in a great spot in Freo! The room was tidy and much nicer than other options in the area for similar prices. :)
- Greg (10/5): - Staff were amazing
- Paul (8/5): - Nice comfortable stay with good showers.
- Shannon (10/5): - Brilliant customer service, great location its a little gem
- Caroline (10/5): - I stayed in an ensuite room, I loved that the building still had a historic feel to it but all the amenities were modern. Really comfy bed, spacious room, excellent service on check in and check out. Would definitely stay here again
- Robert (10/5): - Staff are fantasitc
- Beate (10/5): - 😄
- Kathleen (10/5): - Sandstone Building, service was good. Very happy with our 3 day stay.
Would recommend to our friends
- DEBRA (10/5): - Very comfortable and clean would highly recommend
- Rob (10/5): - Excellent accommodation and dining.
- Michelle (10/5): - Great comfy room with ensuite. And loved the vibe and food of the restaurant and bar below. Great price. We’ll be back!
- Michele (10/5): - This is a small, older hotel but the location was great. We spent very little time in the room so not much was needed.
- Evan (10/5): - Great staff at check in, amazing restaurant, and plenty to do nearby.
- John (8/5): - The room was large, and the shower good as well. We were there Easter. Staff gave us a free drink each, which were much appreciated we are there one night and the food was good. There is no lift, so beware. The music could be heard until midnight, but not to loud.
- andae (10/5): - Great stay, lovely staff and very close to everything
- Kristian (10/5): - This hotel is next level. The food here is amazing, great value for money and tastes out of this world. I had a pizza with garlic bread, then a chocolate brownie for desert. I would highly recommend the food
The staff here are very professional. For hospitality industry it's a dieing art. Not many places care about the customer any more.
This place does care............ Thank you to all the staff, especially the kitchen staff!!!
- Martin (4/5): Trouble in Oz - Hotel is based in Fremantle which is a nice place and way better than Perth in my opinion.
Hotel is part of a restaurant and bar. The rack of spirits behind the bar (photo attached) is worth a look. The stay itself was OK but they took a key deposit of $20 and despite me saying when I was going to check out and then saying there would be no problem, there was no on there to take back my key and refund my $20. I still have the key (photo attached) they still have my $20. Best avoided I'm afraid.
- Josephine (10/5): - Very happy with. My stay .allstaff very accommodating
- Etta (10/5): - Had an enjoyable stay. Well situated and staff were very helpful.
Will definitely stay again.
- Michael (10/5): - Nice atmosphere
- SEAN (10/5): - Norfolk hotel in the busy heart of Fremantle. Excellant value for money.
- Dean (10/5): - Cheap single rooms with enough desk space to setup my handheld PC and portable monitor.
- Dean (10/5): - The front bar was great. thankyou for the free drink.
- John (6/5): - It was very nice but obviously it’s a hotel and a restaurant bar attached which when going to sleep it was loud until closing time.
- Kevin (8/5): - Overall a comfortable stay
- Verified traveler (6/5): Well-located, clean hotel with some noise issues. - The hotel is extremely well located with easy access to both the beach and Fremantle city centre. The rooms are compact but clean with efficient air-conditioning. The rooms also have a coffee machine so you can get a coffee in the morning even with the bar only opening later.
The only downside to this hotel is the noise - there is a bar downstairs that plays loud music until midnight every night and occasionally also hosts a DJ. The rooms are not at all sound proofed so you're kept up until late by the music and bar patrons, and woken up early by the noise of the traffic. When this was raised to the manager we were told that the music couldn't be turned down and that the venue is a pub first. He said that this is stated on the website however, if booked through hotels.com. the description only states that there is a bar onsite which is standard for a hotel.
Overall, this is a great hotel if you're in Fremantle to explore the city centre and are staying here for the nightlife, but not ideal for longer stays or if you're looking for a decent night's sleep.
- Lisa (6/5): - Upon arrival we ascertained the parking was at the back of the hotel. We went through the back entrance which is by the kitchens. A very unattractive area. Inside the carpets were worn and the room dated. The room was also facing the street and above a bar so very noisy. There is 1 shared toilet and shower, these were clean to be fair.
There is a $20 key deposit. As we were leaving early in the morning to get to the airport we were not impressed with the time it took to find someone to return the key to.
We will not stay here again.
- Matt (10/5): - Stayed 2 nights last week
Rooms are great and loved the pub atmosphere. Food and drinks are amazing
5 star thankyou
- Christine (8/5): - Had a great 3 days here
- Mercedes (10/5): - Wow, I didn’t expect such a seamless, awesome experience but thats what my husband and I had. We assumed that by choosing a hotel for the inexpensive cost that had a bar/restaurant right below our room, would probably mean inconvenient night sleeps due to noise. I also thought maybe it wouldn’t be so clean for the bar/restaurant reason… Well I was pleasantly surprised and grateful those were not the cases! Shout out to Sandra who I met before check-in, I think she was a cleaner and seemed friendly, sweet, and humble. I pray the best for you!
We stayed three nights in room 7 and got good sleep! The only noise we heard was from outside on the street (wild sometimes/entertaining) but we didn’t care and were still able to sleep. The room was carefully cleaned with all necessities and yummy, pretty tea options. Free water bottles in the fridge were a perfect addition- we’re grateful as we don’t like tap water. Appreciated the high ceiling as it made our small room feel spacious. The separate bathroom/shower was cleaned everyday- appreciated the modern, thoughtful look.
The shared living-type-room was lovingly designed, we just wish we had a reason to have used it. My husband and I don’t drink alcohol and we got two free drink vouchers at check in- well we had dinner there our last night and the bar tender kindly allowed us to redeem them for two huge glass waters to our delight. The bar area design was admirable and unique- and this is coming from someone who never goes to bars
- Nik (10/5): - Great Hotel , Staff & Cleanliness is exceptional , all the Staff are kind & courteous, food, bars& live entertainment was fabulous , we stayed in upstairs room on two seperate occasions whilst travelling the region, it was super clean & comfortable & has everything from Air Con, Ceiling Fan, Comfy Double Bed, Bar Fridge, Vanity Mirror & Basin with Hot Water.. also tea & coffee facilities, We loved our 4 days in Freemantle ,
- Joseph (10/5): - Wonderful stay in a wonderful place, superb
- Kerry (10/5): - It proved to be very close to an appointment we had. Staff were great . Thank you 🤗
- Nicole (6/5): Hostel standard for hotel price - Very friendly and helpful staff. Wall fan and fridge excellent. Cleaning done every day.
The rooms need freshning up. Stains on the walls, carpet old.
Hostel standard for hotel price!
- Renee (8/5): - Great service, location, and venue. Only downside was a bit of noise late on a Sunday evening (but i expected that, from a pub), and I have a v sore neck from the pillow/s as they were all quite bulky. Great place though :)
- Nik (10/5): - Fabulous Staff , Cleanliness , Well facilitated , Great Location
- Linda (6/5): - Not possible to give a good review to a place that sells single rooms facing the blazing afternoon sun with no air conditioners! And the room I stayed in did not cool down. It was always very hot and stuffy.
The staff were mostly lovely, but nothing compensated for the horrendous heat!
- Rachael (6/5): - Room was a lot smaller than it appeared in pictures online. Shower screen was broken and not usable. Bathroom very small. Kettle in the room was very dirty. Shutter Blinds in room were broken and only able to close facing down which still let all the light in first thing in the morning. Very noisy outside with trucks reversing and lights flashing in the window all night. Staff hard to find and had to wait to check in and out
- Sharon (8/5): - The property was very secure which is important to a solo traveller. The room and shared bathroom were comfortable and clean. Would really have appreciated air-con in the room (and an invite to the party that started at around 1am). All in all, I would recommend to others.
- Eunice (6/5): - The place has its own bar and restaurant and parking area. Convenient!
The room is very small but its okay 👌
- Simon (10/5): - Excellent staff who made us feel welcome and dinner was also fantastic
- Graham (10/5): Awesome - Amazing stay, immaculate room, staff were fantastic, food was great.
Def be back again loved the smoked brisket.
- Ian and Lynne (8/5): - Would stay again
- Edward (10/5): Nid n Lorraine - Hotel was great and good location 🍻😎👍
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great start at the Norfolk - Very pleasantly surprised. Came here years ago and it was a bit of a dive.
The company who owns it have done a fabulous job doing the place up. Staff very friendly, brilliant bar staff who was willing to make a cocktail that wasn't on the list.
Room comfortable, we went for an ensuite - YMMV
- Sandra (10/5): - The staff we encountered were all super friendly and good at their jobs. I was a bit daunted when we arrived at the back of the hotel to park. The back steps were a bit primitive but the rooms were nice and clean and set up well with all the amenities. The complimentary drinks were appreciated. We didn’t eat there but did have drinks which were reasonably priced and icy cold. The price was reasonable and the customer service was awesome. I will definitely stay here again.
- Susanna (10/5): - The rooms were good but single room you had to use shared toilet and bathroom. It was very clean.
No lifts due to only being two floors. Staff carried my luggage up and down.
Close too the freemantle markets just across the road. I would stay again but in bigger room with a air conditioner not just a fan. Close driving distance to the beach.
- Julie (10/5): - Great stay in Fremantle. Clean rooms and close to the main street
- Stacey (10/5): - .
- Chris (8/5): - It was a good hotel to stay in
- NOREEN (6/5): - I never realised there were so many stairs to the room, I have a sore knee so the stairs were difficult.
I can't fault the staff, they were amazing.
- Andrew (10/5): - Great location, vert comfy bed, super friendly & helpful staff.
- Rohan (2/5): - Had a terrible sleep the room had no air conditioning.
- Janine (10/5): Great pub and good accom - Great pub with decent accommodation. The staff are outstanding and very accommodating. The room is decent with all you need, accessible by stairs, so if your are not mobile don't do it. Our stay was a Friday night which meant a DJ in the pub. The noise of it carried a little but did not disturb us for sleeping. Drinks and food in the pub is good. Thr location was excellent and I would stay again. Thanks for the food stay.
