Guest Reviews
- Gary (8/5): -
- John (8/5): Quirky and comfortable - Nice room. Very comfortable bed.
Bathroom - decent shower, clean.
Easy check in. No shelf in bathroom for toiletries - could have done with one above basin.
Didn’t like teabags (but maybe that’s just me).
Some traffic noise, but earplugs surprisingly effective at reducing noise.
- Tracey (8/5): -
- Sharon (7/5): - 5 night stay and no towels was changed
- Smith (7/5): - Cheap and clean No staff on hand. Room was up some steep stairs. No mention on booking
- Elaine Deighton (8/5): - Clean spacious room Self check-in and no staff around to answer questions. Only saw the housekeeper who helped with getting room keys.
Breakfast placed outside room in the morning. No table and chairs in bedroom making it difficult to eat while sat on the bed.
- David (8/5): - The location was ideal. Would prefer breakfast in a dining room.
Breakfast was delivered to the room with no table to eat it at.
- Eleanor (8/5): As above - Clean comfortable and value for money and a lovely breakfast. No one to greet us, it was all AI.
- Paul (9/5): Pleasant stay - Nicely decorated, clean and easy to access.
Breakfast arrived on time and was nicely presented and enjoyable. I needed a pen to fill in my breakfast requirements, there wasn’t one and with no staff on site it was an issue. Only a small issue as it was resolved by a text message to staff.
- Jason (10/5): Excellent -
- Deborah (7/5): Great location. Good budget accommodation - Good location
Check in process good and information given easy to follow
Large fluffy towels Bed was very uncomfortable. Squeaky and old mattress.
We didn't sleep well
No water pressure in the morning so couldn't shower before we left.
Ear buds too small.
Property is tired and needs updating.
Bath panel broken
Very stained carpets
Limited parking on the road
- Angela (9/5): Great night away - Room was spacious, good sized bathroom.
Breakfast was tasty 🤤 A label on the coffee to inform that it's not instant.
I didn't notice the cafetiere so I had a bit of a shock haha
- Patrick (10/5): -
- Briony (8/5): Good value for money for a short stay - Room was spacious. Bed was comfortable. Good value for money. Not far to walk into the centre. It seemed strange having no staff about. There was one lady to greet us when we arrived and after that there was nobody around, which wasn’t really a problem. Breakfast was served in the room which was fine but the only thing I would say is please supply jam with the croissant!!
- mathew (6/5): - Check in was effortless, all instructions was clear, location was good-near to beach and in town. Other items like hot water availability and amenities were good. lot of stuffs mentioned in booking.com was over rated, for example it mentioned iron box -but actually iro box is common for 5 rooms and it is in common area. Breakfast mentioned-but it is delivered to room (that is fine) but could be delivered bit more early (like around 8 or before 8, so we can plan the day better). I feel it is not the problem of hotel issue is with booking.com, they overrating the stuffs.
- Ščeponaviciūtė (7/5): Lovely place to get away - Rooms were very clean and the hotel was close to the centre so I didn't have to walk far. Very spacious especially travelling with kids. It was too hot when we came but after turning the heating off it was alright so not a massive issue. Instructions were very clear, parking a bit of a pain but there were plenty of free spots so not an issue. Weird rule about the take away but we didn't mind as always prefer to go out and there were loads of nice restaurants around.
- Karoly (10/5): Pleasure to stay here, recommended - The room was very clean and warm , also spacious.
The breakfast served to the door, basic but tasty.
- Agnieszka (10/5): - Super
- sergeja (7/5): - Very good breackfast
- Lucy (9/5): An amazing stay - Lovely spacious room. Bed extremely comfortable, amazing breakfast brought to the room ! The thin windows of an old building let it down with traffic noise but I would still be back
- HUA (10/5): -
- Helen (8/5): Absolutely fine for a one night stay. - Convenient location. Comfortable bed. Large room. Road noise (ear plugs provided. Large room could take 2 easy chairs instead of dining chairs, which would make it more comfortable. Lack of storage for clothes (other than hangers flat against a wall). No drawers. TV suddenly came on having been turned off. Shame about there not being a dining room. Couldn’t easily have eaten breakfast in the room as no table. (Had breakfast locally). Parking turned out to be OK but uncertain about where the correct parking zones actually were.
- Johnson (10/5): - Absolutely gorgeous Loved everything about it and lovely staff
- Claudia (7/5): -
- Louis (10/5): -
- Catherine (10/5): -
- Susan (7/5): Was exceptable for price we paid . - It was clean and easily accessible with door codes and instructions. Tea coffee and sugar not in sachets and looked dried up in glass jars didn’t use as bought own , was disappointed that no one was there to asked about the chapel access.
- Lindsay (8/5): - Great location Tv came on by itself during the night. Ghost?😀
- Dingyi (10/5): -
- Patten (10/5): - Staff were lovely. Great location. Lovely clean rooms. No complaints
- Patten (10/5): -
- Lynn (10/5): Lovely, friendly staff & everything was just so easy & straightforward. Modern, well equipped & generally an - Nicely situated with ample parking. A nice scenic walk to the sea front & the town centre. It was fine, nothing not to like!
- Catherine (8/5): -
- Peter (5/5): A bit disappointing. - Good breakfast, friendly staff, easy to walk into the centre. The room was very noisy due to the traffic. Earplugs were provided. No wardrobe or table. The shower control didn’t work properly and so was always too hot.
- Tom (8/5): - Large room with comfortable bed. Simple check-in, clean
- Paul (2/5): Shite won't stay there again no heating on downstairs also camera watching people - Nothing Nothing
- Keith (7/5): - Simple and cheap for one night No problems with room
- Katie (10/5): Lovely team of staff & it was a joy to see senior staff working along side other staff as a team. It’s was overall a - Nothing was too much trouble, did there upmost to cater for all our needs. Absolutely nothing
- Kevin (7/5): Great stay - Everything was perfect easy check inn and check out friendly and polite staff room included breakfast but opted out as checked out early room was very roomy and comfortable sofa to sit on watching tv shower was great very clean room only downside was considering it was king suite room should have a full king size mattress not two single mattresses push together with two separate bed bases that’s false advertising little finishing could be done and correct size toilet seat fitted apart from that everything was perfect would stay again would highly recommend many thanks Mattresses not full size king mattress two separate singles pushed together
Not correct sized toilet seat fitted
- Shaneene (10/5): Andy was great upon meeting him great communication from the team would absolutely stay again - It was the perfect location for what we wanted. I liked everything they had a pool table downstairs which was a great added extra
- David (10/5): -
- Nicola (8/5): -
- George (7/5): -
- nigel2568 (9/5): - Clean and comfortable
Surprisingly quiet despite being located next to a busy road.
Short walk to beach and shopping areas.
Access to a small swimming pool and spa pool. (Though they need a little tlc) Cannot think of anything as area was quiet and out of season.
- Julie (10/5): Sheets were crisp clean room had nice touched and the breakfast was amazing - The room was masive and spotless Nothing it was perfect
- Kim (10/5): GREAT ROOMS FOOD AND STAFF - Absolutely fabulous breakfast, amazing quality and fabulous choice. The rooms are huge and spotless . Breakfast is delivered to your room as there is no dining room but I preferred that and hot food arrives hot everything is fresh. All the staff we seen are so friendly and happy to help with anything.
- Christopher (7/5): - very good stay , v comfortable
large bathroom , would prefer a normal sit down breakfast rather than a room service delivery
- Carole (8/5): Very comfortable but should be a dining room - Clean and comfortable Having breakfast in room no table to sit at
- janet (10/5): Great time 🌝 Great place 🌞 - The text sent was clear and easy to follow before arriving that day. Went to check on the parking situation and the lady was extremely helpful and sorted it out straight away.
The bonus was the room was ready and we were able to check in instead of waiting.
Easy to get into the centre of town and check out the shops before heading down to the beach.
Breakfast was still hot when it arrived in the morning and the porridge was delicious. The room was extremely large, warm and the bed very comfortable. Everything was very clean.
Would definitely recommend and come back to visit next time we are in Scarborough.
Thank you for a great weekend. Nothing to not like
- Deborah (9/5): Clean & welcoming - It was clean, welcoming, easy instructions given for breakfast, was given ideas for where to go for an evening meal. Nice tea with pot & ground coffee decafe & full caffeine with coffee pot. Comfortable bed, nice ensuite, we even had ear plugs in case traffic noise was too noisy.
Would recommend good value for money.
- Lee (7/5): -
- JOHN (6/5): very clean, helpfull staff, but needs improvement...setup all wrong. - staff were very nice and helpfull. very clean appartment with clean sheets on bed. shower and bath very clean. free swimming pool. you need a smartphone [ codes ] to get access to the property, and to use the swimming pool. if you dont have a smartphone or cant use one [ me included ] then this B & B is not for you ! there`s no reception desk. no breakfast table...we had to eat our breakfasts off our knees, out of a bag, with no tray ! breakfast was a " buttie " not a full english on a plate.
bad location, long walk to the beach down and up a hill. also traffic noise at night.
we booked a super king bed, but got a normal size bed.
- Bev (10/5): - When we arrived the staff were very helpful and friendly 🙂
- Chris Dillon (10/5): - Clean room and a very comfortable stay Not manned on arrival but instructions given for self check in
- Kim (10/5): Fabulous stay over 3 nights - purely nostalgic but also awesome! - We were delighted to stay here for three nights this week! Excellent location which was around a 15/20 minute walk from Scarborough Town Centre and dayum, we got busy exploring! The Hotel operates on a self-check in basis which promotes independent autonomy (Which is the nicest way I can find to say "Being a responsible/self-accountable adult"). At the time of booking, you receive an email stating the house rules and you also receive a text on the morning of your stay which gives you check in details and are very clear - assistance is there if you need it. The bed was massive and extremely comfortable, and the room had older/nostalgia furniture which I loved. If you prefer a modern Ikea set-up as in a Premier Inn, then stay at a Premier Inn and leave this badboy for us folks that appreciate the subtle reminder of childhood seaside holidays we had thirty years ago. The shower had a waterfall feature which was lush, our room supplies were discreetly stocked up every day and the love that is being put in here by the staff is quite obvious. There is massive trust from the owners to folks paying for parking permits, and we had little-to-no noise from the traffic outside. Well done to all of you for grafting so hard and thank you for having us <3 Not a thing - it was an awesome stay!
- Katryna (9/5): Everything we needed and more - Great location for a trip to see the sights in Scarborough. Clean room, clear instructions for checking in. Lovely breakfast brought to the room door. We had a lovely night away. Added bonus of the pool table and a selection of games. There was nothing that I didn't like
- Tina-Marie (8/5): Great stay, good location, good value. - The property was clean, large room, lovely bathroom. Comfortable bed.
Friendly staff.
Good location. The first night was really cold, the whole building was but the second was lovely and warm and cosy.
- Li (8/5): Valuable to stay. - The room is clean and very big. Location is goods. The parking and the shower was too hot for us. Can’t adjust. Can’t bring the take away foods. Not updated the website, they not provide any foods to ordered.
- Jane (9/5): Exceeded our expectations and yoghurt and compote excellent - Liked most things. Choice at breakfast …the yoghurt with compote was excellent. The size of room exceeded our expectations Facilitaties were great. Perhaps label the coffee as filter coffee as we assumed it would be instant and ended up throwing the lot away! Fix front window as it is open at bottom letting in noise and wind! It was gusty! Carpet could be cleaner around the table.
- Rainforest (8/5): - The breakfast was nice, Porridge was delicious.
Location was great.
Rooms clean, warm and loads of room. No takeaways aloud in the room.
Filter coffee was so old it smelt off.
No cereal, toast, baked beans, not a child friendly breakfast.
No where to sit and eat breakfast as it got delivered to your room, so had to sit on the floor next to a low down table.
- Paula (6/5): Comfy and clean. - Room very fresh and clean. No coffee machine as advertised.
No full English breakfast as expected. Hot sandwiches were delivered to our room which were nice, just not what was expected
- Gail (9/5): Very well maintained hotel - Very clean and spacious rooms . A dinning room for meals would be perfect for this hotel.
- Zoe (6/5): Basic And Clean - The bedding was clean and the bed comfy and large. The towels were clean and the shower was lovely and warm. It’s a good base for one or two nights. It’s a very basic place but I feel this is reflected in the price.
- Felicity (7/5): Not suited for families - The room was very clean. I asked about breakfast and the pool use prior to arrival and was told to wait till check in day. I got a long text on check in day but pool question was still contact us and breakfast was still unknown. Having two kids with me I needed to plan so pool was out and the breakfast was a tick sheet that didn’t cater well to children’s breakfast needs. Toast cereal etc. The room set up was better suited to friends staying than family. Fire doors meant it remained very separate and there was no where to sit together.
With kids it’s about 20-30 minutes walk to the seafront.
- Emma (3/5): - The self check in instructions were clear and worked well. Unfortunately, we were really disappointed after initially looking forward to staying here. Upon arrival the bed was smaller than what I booked and upon calling the numbers provided, one call was cut off, 2 went unanswered and a message replying the their original message was not responded to so we could not try and resolve this. We managed but also found that the shower did not drain well so you were stood in water as you showered, the toiletries provided was just a liquid type soap, we could not locate a hair dryer or earplugs that were mentioned (it is onto a main road) and the fob did not work. Prior to arrival I had messaged with our arrival time, as requested and asked for passes to use the leisure facilities nearby but these were never provided.
- Mary Ann (9/5): Lovely overnight stay - was perfect for my needs - Immaculately clean throughout
Very comfortable bed
Very good quality bed lined and towels
Excellent location
Excellent value for money Coffee was provided but it was very stale
- Tigg (8/5): -
- Juju (10/5): Great value for money would recommend - The property was beautiful and in a great location Nothing it was perfect
- Claire (8/5): Very nice stay - Lovely big room and bathroom, clean white sheets, plenty of tea bags etc, nice pool room downstairs, reasonable price. Didnt try the breakfast as with two children eating in the room with no proper table and chairs would have been a bit messy! No curtains so light bleed round the blind woke me up really early (bring a sleep mask) No radiator in the bathroom and only one radiator in the room worked so it was a bit chilly in the morning until you put the little portable heater on.
- walker (10/5): 2 night stay april 26 - Lovely large modern rooms in an old vicarage, very spacious and clean
- Alison (6/5): - The booking was a last minute decision and it was cheap and cheerful - we had the wrong pin so struggled initially to get into the building (it is not manned) but was resolved quite promptly. The room was clean and was fine for a night or two. The pillows were really hard
- Philip (6/5): A bit different, be prepared, it could be for you and your budget. - For a hotel where the staff were off-site it felt more like renting an apartment but without the facilities for food preparation. Arrangements for parking and check-in were well communicated and worked well. The room itself was a very good size for the three of us, with a good tv. It was warm, had two reasonable chairs and good wardrobe space. There were tea/coffee facilities. The bathroom was ok though could be improved. The location is about ten minutes walk from the seafront and just a bit more to the town shops, with a reasonable selection of pubs/restaurants.
It is sensibly priced bearing in mind the negatives but if you can live with the quibbles then you will enjoy your stay. Scarborough is what it is. Don't expect sophistication. The 'hotel' is a bit drab and unappealing in places, especially the frontage, though once inside it is more than acceptable.
The room is very noisy due to proximity of main road and single-glazed windows (sash broken). The bathroom was ok but low pressure hot water made showers disappointing. It could be equipped better by the addition of a towel rail and a toilet roll holder. The bed was too soft (as was the camp bed for the little 'un).
Breakfast is served in a basket betweeen 8-9. You pre-order the night before, choosing starters (yoghurt, croissant) and choice of butty. Fruit juice was good. This was not really what I wanted, so be prepared.
None of the above prevented us from using the room and enjoying the stay but would probably spend more elsewhere next time.
- Clarkson (7/5): -
- Donna (9/5): Comfortable and clean - It was classed as 3* and was better than expected. Recommend it for anyone who is looking for a stay in Scarborough. Breakfast was delivered to the room. Nothing in particular
- preece (10/5): - Beautiful building. Easy to find parking. Fantastic bed. Enjoyed a few games of pool and the owner showed us the magnificent chapel.
- Tann (9/5): A beautiful well thought out spot - The property has been beautifully renovated with well thought out rooms. The breakfast was substantial and delicious. Having a table (even a foldable one) in the room would be good as eating the breakfast was a bit tricky as we had to pull up a chair for the dressing table was awkward. It should be made clear on booking site that breakfast is eaten in room.
- James (10/5): -
- Zoe (9/5): It was what I needed for the night! - Comfy bed and lovely breakfast. Staff were lovely too! N/A
- Zoe (8/5): Functional… well worth the price. Brekkie was perfect - Room was spacious. Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Everything was clean fresh and tidy. It was basic but it was exactly what you would expect and need. Nothing. It was absolutely fine …
- david (10/5): - everything easy all was ok with no problems other than finding the whereabouts of the correct parking zone which i never did
- Jared (10/5): -
- Louise (7/5): - After a problem with the z bed (triple room)they changed us to another room/suite. The lady was extremely helpful and accommodating as we were sorted quickly. Comfortable beds. The breakfast was good albeit a little strange you have it delivered to your door and eat it in your room. Quite a busy road so there will be traffic noise. Earplugs are supplied.
- Wynston (10/5): Attentive hosts, great breakfast. - Easy check-in, great communication from management, the rooms were very comfortable and had everything you need inside. Great breakfast options which tasted amazing! The pool access was a nice bonus and the pool table downstairs was a great space to hang out. Thank you for being such great hosts!
- David (9/5): Good value, smart and comfortable place to stay - Smart and clean property, close to the sea.
- Tommy (10/5): Clean, comfy, slept amazing. 10/10. Staff great too. - Easy check in, everything spelled out for you easily.
Rooms big, and clean. Comfiest bed ever.
Street traffic is noticeable but not a problem tbh.
Location is a little out the way but a nice walk to the main part.
Shop just down the road too. Nothing.
- Sandra (10/5): Good Location - Good Location, room was big and clean 👌🏽 Unfortunately no pen to fill in Breakfast request on Friday, and no iron to use, after two requests, coffee in the room, was filter not instant.
- Bakergirl (7/5): -
- Gail (9/5): - Great location with just 10 min walk to town or the beach. Self check in was really easy. Our room was very clean with all amenities as described. Breakfast was value for money and lovely idea of been delivered to the room. Would recommend and would definitely stay again.
- Dave (7/5): -
- David (8/5): - Everything you need with a good location, just away from the hustle and bustle, but just a 5-10 minute walk to the front and town centre
- Olivia (10/5): -
- Nicholas (10/5): What I needed - Easy to access no fuss Noting
- Michelle (8/5): -
- Angela (10/5): -
- Carver-Smith (8/5): -
- Mark (9/5): -
- JAMES (10/5): -
- Langlands (7/5): Room 10 - Location close to ammenities, pool table, a nice clean spacious room Large crack in wall, no door thresh into bathroom advertised swimming pool facilites but not in property and no staff apart from breakfast time
- Rebecca (8/5): A lovely weekend in Scarborough. - My husband and two friends stayed at the Chapel House to attend an event at Scarborough Spa. The location was ideal to get to and from The Spa. The breakfast in the room, delivered to our door was perfect. A good selection to choose from, and really enjoyable. Also, the complimentary coffee was ‘proper’ coffee with a cafetière. The room was good value for money split three ways. The kingsize bed was super comfy. The fold out bed was functional. The check-in details provided by text were really comprehensive and the communication with the staff by telephone was really helpful when we wanted to use the gym facilities at The Red Lea hotel.
