Guest Reviews
- phillip (10/5): Cosey stay in a beautiful spot. - Great location with fantastic walks on the doorstep. Enjoyed a lovely meal in the pub- it was very busy so be sure to book a table. The hut itself is very comfortable and tastefully renovated. All the small details are brilliant. Perfect for a couple of nights getaway. The steps to get in and out of the hut are steep/ no rail. Could be a problem for anybody with mobility issues.
The mirrors are too low.
- Noreen (10/5): An idyllic stay in a beautiful location - Comfortable and very clean and a lovely place to be.
Waking up to the sound of sheep and cows was delightful. Nothing
- Ted (8/5): Cravenarms the best thing since slice bread - View was priceless ....pub like going back in time so much to look at ...food was homemade exceptional ....apple crumbe best everyone there had tasted ...ales were lovely great to try ...
Sheperds hut very comfortable...10/10 Pass nothing to dislike
- Pip (9/5): - Cute and compact - great views Under floor heating wasn’t working
- Norman (10/5): - Lovely shepherd's hut at the back of the pub carpark, comfy bed and hot shower. Good continental breakfast. All fine
- beckie (10/5): -

- Anne (9/5): - Generous breakfast, nicely presented!
Everything we needed in a small space and cosy too!
- Sarah (10/5): Restful - Very private and warm All good
Excellent pub food
- Christopher (8/5): -
- Judith (8/5): Great place to chill and relax - Lovely location if you like peace and quiet lovely breakfast hamper Overall very nice stay could do with a few more toiletries for the bathroom and a hairdryer
- Oscar (10/5): An ideal location to use as a base while you explore the rest of the Dales. Very clean and cozy with all the amenities y - Very cozy, clean and in a stunning location N/A
- Caroline (10/5): Awesome - The welcome box provided a free breakfast with plenty of choice. Cereal, croissant and pain au chocolate, porridge, fresh orange, fruit and of course tea and coffee. The noisy rain on the roof 🤣 but it didn’t last long.
- Dave (10/5): Great stay at the Gateway To The Ales ! - ( see photo )
Great all round 👏 WiFi wasn't available in the shepherd's hut but was elsewhere
- Claire (9/5): - The effort that was put into the building of these huts, including in the barn joined in to the pub was amazing.. the craftsmanship and attention to detail was incredible. Thoughts were put in to the cabins for comfort, and enjoyment, with games , playing cards and domino’s etc were very thoughtful. The helpful folder was a very nice touch, detail local walks, details of nearby attractions and old local detail. Food was amazing at the restaurant, had a seat for two evening dinners. Staff were very friendly and the pub had a lot of charm and local detail. Amazing hospitality
- Martin (10/5): Our second visit - and just as good as the first one. - This is the second time we have stayed in a shepherds hut at The Craven Arms in Appletreewick. They are very small but very comfortable - just be sure to be organised as there is not a huge amount of room. I was a little worried that we would be cold given our visit was in November, but the under floor heating meant it was actually very warm. The shepherds huts are located behind the car park, which in turn is behind the Craven Arms. The staff there (particularly Finn and Steve) were great - friendly, sarcastic! and couldn't do enough for us. The food and drink in The Craven Arms is great. It does get very busy and we thought that we had left it too late to book a table but they managed to squeeze us in. The location is great with many lovely walks right on the doorstep. We will definitely be back. Leaving.
- David (8/5): - Amazing location and really well equipped hut that kept us lovely and warm even though it was cold enough for snow. The mattress was too soft (personal preference) and so we did not get the best nights sleep.
- Andrew (10/5): - Oozing history my wife was moved to tears by the detail, thought and atmosphere of the huts, pub and its people! Simply breathtaking
- Jasmin (10/5): Lovely getaway from busy life - Very comfy bed. All the basics covered and lovely views Very close to car park
- Jolene (10/5): Peaceful & pure country living - These Shepherds huts were very unique and quaint. Lovely little touches found in the little space. Underfloor heating was a fabulous touch. Domino’s in the bathroom was a great touch too. The showers were fab, hot & powerful. The little welcome pack was fab too. Definitely recommend staying here Nothing
- Smith (9/5): - Small but cosy and comfortable, good location for walking in the Dales. Next to a great pub with good food. Stunning views. No WiFi, but not really an issue.
- Louise (10/5): -
- Geoff (9/5): Ideal accommodation in the Dales - Superb location, excellent condition, staff very friendly and helpful.
- David (7/5): -
- Nicole (10/5): - So macht Urlaub Spaß!
- Theresa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- June (10/5): Exceptional - What can we say, absolutely 💯 fabulous accommodation & the staff at the pub are the best we have ever received..we must mention Steve the pub manager, Craven Arms he made us so welcome and made us feel like VIP.We definitely be coming back 😀
- Connell (3/5): A ditch would be more comfortable - Nice location Most uncomfortable bed, possibly acquired same time as huts were built. Could feel springs in mattress against hips and chest.
- Georgina (10/5): Exceptional - The attention to detail in these cosy little huts was just lovely. It was absolutely chucking it down one of the days and pretty cold, the heated floors definitely came in handy. They also provide lots of snacks and breakfast bits and bobs, tea, coffee and hot chocolate little croissants which is a lovely touch. My daughter wants to live here (she's 4). The staff are lovely and i still need to come back and try the food! Would definitely come again and highly recommend. The bed is quite high, but this allows for adequate storage underneath. May be hard for elderly to get up there and down.
Other than that minor, absolutely perfect
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jane (7/5): Cosy pub with fabulous views! - The location
Cosy bars with great atmosphere The bed was not very comfortable
A mini fridge would be useful. Milk was provided but there was no way to keep it cool other than leaving it outside overnight
The pub menu was disappointing and the food was not as good as our visit last year
- Amelia (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (8/5): Great location and great food ( craven arms ) staff friendly and helpful - The location was spot on !! The mattress was not quality and I had a terrible nights sleep because of this !! I would give it a 5/10 had it had a decent mattress I would give it a 8.5/10
- Lynne (10/5): Absolutely loved the shepherds huts and it was great that we were so near to the craven arms that we ate in both nights - The location was fantastic
The huts were basic but had everything we needed Nothing
- Fearnley (10/5): Hut was cosy, enough for two, scenery amazing, with a quality pub on the door step. What more could you ask for? Brill - The hut was just so clean and cosy, with all the facilities we expected. Nice that we could take our little dog. The staff are so welcoming.
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location, unique accommodation
- Naomi (9/5): Fab stay for birthday and wedding anniversary celebration - I booked this trip as a weekend get away with my husband for his birthday & our 6th wedding anniversary celebration. We arrived in the Friday to a warm welcome from staff in Craven Arms pub and had a drink then went up to the hut. It was warm, very clean, a lovely breakfast hamper with tea coffee pastries and porridge pots. The bed was comfy & shower was great! We ate at craven arms on both evenings & the staff were very accommodating and even reserved us a table for the Saturday evening with out us even asking, which was nice after a long walk that day! The food was delicious and a good variety of beverages to choose from. We really enjoyed our stay and will be returning! Thank you
- Kearns (9/5): Superb -
- Samina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ann (10/5): Gorgeous quirky hut - The shepherds hut was lovely warm and cozy and a nice quirky experience.
The pub was lovely, the staff were very welcoming and helpful especially Steve, Finn and Sam and so were all the locals. Met some lovely people.
Just what we wanted a nice quiet base with access to some gorgeous walks.
- Garry (9/5): Yorkshire dales trip - Beautiful surroundings the local people where very welcoming , food at the craven arms was very good but limited menu
We'd sit outside on evening & all you could hear was the waterfall a few miles away
Breathtaking the hut itself was in a great location behind the craven arms
Very well decorated clean with underfloor heating , I think only downside was lack of phone signal & you'd have to go outside to connect to the pub WiFi but hey that's what going out to the remote countryside is all about right re connecting with what's actually important just being you no distractions
All in all a amazing experience
- Thomas (8/5): Perfect stay .. recommended - I enjoy the environment and friendliness of the people there. Everyone helpful to make my stay perfect.. felt catered for before we arrived with warm cavern and gft box to get started. Excellent experiance WiFi access in caravan.. would have been a bonus.
- Jayne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing trip away, the pub is outstanding and the huts behind were brilliant to stay in.
There are no cooking facilities but we were aware and planned accordingly.
The mattress was not the most comfortable we have slept on but still would return in a heartbeat, had a brilliant trip away for a birthday treat.
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Wayne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hurst (8/5): Very good - Loved the hut, mattress a little hard and could do with a better quilt it was very thin, other than that it was perfect and the breakfast box was very nice. Nothing really to complain about.
- Kyle (10/5): - The Craven Arms is the most welcoming, amazing pub we've been lucky to visit in the UK. The stories about the owners and the pub are amazing. The regulars were super welcoming and happy to share a few pints and swap stories. The food is excellent and services is great!
And then there are the shepherd huts, so cozy, I only wished I stayed longer. I'll certainly be back!
- Timothy (10/5): Brilliant stay in lovely area - Enjoyed it very much. Beautiful hut, very clean and cosy. Had a fantastic meal at the pub which was lovely. We had been expecting a log/peat burning stove and were a little disappointed to find it had been replaced with an electric one on a similar style, but totally understand why this change may have been made for eco reasons.
- Kirsty (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicola (10/5): Perfect relaxing getaway - Had a fantastic time staying in the Craven Shepherds Huts. The hut was cosy, clean and well equipped; just set back from the quaint pub which served delicious food.
The location was perfect for walking in the Dales. Will definitely be going back, a real gem that I'm glad to have discovered.
- Alison (7/5): Enjoyed our stay but mainly due to location and pub - The location and loved the pub. Good bathroom with towels. Clean. No chairs to sit on. Nowhere to hang clothes. Lack of fridge to store milk.
- April (8/5): The staff could not have been kinder -
- Peter (10/5): Anniversary stopover - Back to nature in a shepherds hut but with some mod cons .clean and location excellent. Breakfast box was a nice gesture.
- Rosie (8/5): Very good - En-suite facilities and underfloor heating Nothing
- Chloe (10/5): - A beautiful stay for me and my partner to celebrate his birthday, staff were super helpful and great little escape! can’t recommend them more :)
- Sue (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anne (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly and helpful lovely food in the pub Rain
- Tracy (8/5): Very good -
- Sam (10/5): Would recommend - Great stay and great food
- Clair (10/5): Fantastic hut in a great location - We were made to feel very welcome by the staff and nothing was too much trouble. The hut exceeded our expectations it was very warm and cosy despite the named storm and the torrential rain ! Everything you need is there. Absolutely nothing didn't want to leave !
- Gillian (8/5): Very good - Cosy and warm with everything you could possibly need No Wi-Fi in the hut
- Alan (10/5): A lovely relaxing 3 night stay - We had a lovely relaxing 3 night stay in the shepherd hut on the doorstep of the beautiful Craven Arms. A nice welcome box of assorted breakfast items was there when we arrived. The hut was so warm and cozy with underfloor heating and log burner and the view was breathtaking.
- Alena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andy (8/5): Very good - Location was stunning, staff very friendly and huts were very nice and cosy to stay in. Could do with a mini fridge in huts
- Helen (10/5): - Everything we needed and lots of things to do close by Inc walks, waterfalls, steam train and gardens.
- Rachel (10/5): Our stay - It was lovely staying there would do it again.love the views.
- David (10/5): Lovely break in the Yorkshire countryside - Fabulous stay, small, cosy, intimate and cute. Well equipped, very nicely done and spotless. Great pub next door, excellent food, service and atmosphere.
Would definitely return.
- Anonymous (10/5): We had the best time away, and will be back! - We loved the location and the food in the pub was amazing! How high the bed was!!
- Duncan (8/5): Great base for a getaway to the Yorkshire Dales - Good location with walks directly from the door. The hut whilst relatively basic has a good shower however limited wet shave facilities as sink is far to small with no motor. Personally I think a small fridge would add so much more convenience. Lovely welcome pack of Tea Coffee and a small selection of breakfast items. We took our dog and where the huts are positioned would suggest the owners put a gate between the hut and carpark. I guess just need to be mindful it’s a Shepards Hut so won’t have luxuries
- Judi (10/5): A very happy experience in beautiful surroundings. - Very comfortable bed , and hut had been brilliantly planned and constructed, so as to give best possible facilities in limited space. Staff in the main building were friendly and helpful and set a relaxed and happy tone for visitors. Very useful walking info in the guest folder enabled us to enjoy the area better than we'd planned ourselves.
- Debbie (9/5): Superb -
- Claire (10/5): Birthday surprise - What an amazing little find. Absolutely spotless, the pub it's self is a very old querky pub, with huge character. The food is gorgeous aswell..
- Sally (8/5): Very good -
- Alan (10/5): - Excellent location. Clean, tidy and comfortable. Excellent to have a wood burning stove in the hut, for me a real selling point. However a shortage of fuel was a problem after asking repeatedly at the pub where check in/ out is managed there was still no fuel brought and while there was a small amount to start with it soon ran out and also it was peat log fuel so not as eco friendly as it could be however still very cosy and warm. Underfloor heating was nice although still quite cold at night and no extra blankets provided. Overall very nice stay and no real complaints.
If suggest to owner the following points...
A clock in hut would be useful.
Extra blankets or similar
Increase fuel supply maybe?
Extra shelf or similar on Wall at foot of bed?
Seriously though had a lovely time. Thank you so much!
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (10/5): perfect quiet spot next to a 16th century pub, ideal for family days out - breakfast hamper was a lifesaver! would be good to explicitly state there isn’t a mini fridge or microwave but that’s nitpicking
- Leanne (9/5): Best alternative property I’ve ever stayed in. - the property was just beautifully built and kept. lovely spot with great walks. The food at the craven arms pub was amazing. definitely go have the steak pie if your passing. I would of liked an undercover seated area maybe a slight porch. also to be further apart from the other huts. although this would be quite difficult with the limited space.
- Clare (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marlor (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jamie (9/5): Superb -

- Glenn (10/5): Exceptional - quirky but absolutely lovely. nothing
- Fiona (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ian (10/5): A beautiful cosy stay in a lovely setting - From start to finish it was welcoming, warm and cosy and made the perfect retreat nothing
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bill (10/5): We will certainly be returning to the Craven Arms, we found it so relaxing. - Very cosy well appointed hut in a beautiful location next to a fantastic pub with helpful interesting staff. The food is excellent & there is a good selection of local cask beers. I couldn't find fault with anything.
- Kirsty (10/5): Its our 3rd stay and we love it! - We love the location. Appletreewick is a beautiful area. The Craven Arms is a fantastic pub and I adore the shepherd's huts. They're so quirky. This is our 3rd time staying and we'll definitely return again. We loved every bit of it.
- Tony (8/5): Very good -
- Bernadette (10/5): Exceptional - The hut was cosy, warm and very clean with a lovely touch with the welcoming breakfast box. The staff in the pub were very friendly, the food excellent and good value for money.
- Danielle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (7/5): Well worth a short stay in the beautiful Dales - Our first stay in a Shepherd's Hut so it was a novel experience. It's good for a short romantic break but it is very small. We are glad we stayed but I think it's a one-off.
Located behind an excellent pub that serves good food. In 10 minutes you can be walking along the River Wharfe. A really excellent location for walking. The WiFi from the pub was barely useable within the hut. It's a bit cramped, but it would be wouldn't it? Hence a short stay for us only.
- Kirstin (10/5): Exceptional, will be back. - Ideal base if you don’t want to stay in the big towns around. But everything within easy reach with a car. Initially booked as I could take my dog, which she loved. But be aware there are lots of cattle and sheep around. Pub is brilliant, very quirky and lovely staff. But they are always busy for evening meals, so best to book ahead.
- Luke (10/5): Best place in Yorkshire. - Wonderful stay.
Clean, cosy comfortable and a Welcome Pack of foods, teas and coffees.
Lovely pub with a great menu and beer selection.
Great staff and Service.
