Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Experience at Dar Hanane - Great location in the Marrakesh medina and the hospitality and the service was absolutely amazing!
- Delainie (10/5): Wonderful stay at Dar Hanane - Beautiful building and room, our family of four spent 2 nights in the grande suite. It was amazing. The host arranged a transfer to the property for us (it’s hard to find the first time). After that it’s easy. We had a wonderful lunch on the rooftop terrace made just for us and the breakfast was great as well. They were very accommodating to anything we needed. Highly recommend!
- Virginia (8/5): Nice. Noise was a big issue. - Location great.
Easy to find.
Bed comfortable.
Rooftop lovely for a sunset dinner.
Lovely fireplaces. Public areas freezing as no doors (lovely with the fire but no heat from it) making breakfast a freezing affair. (Note we ended up eating in our room which was lovely).
Tissues, shower caps etc would be a nice to have in the room.
Hot water cupboard stuck open, easy fix but I couldn’t reach.
Most frustrating issue was noise from other guests in public area. Our room was on the ground floor so we were woken every evening and morning by other guests, and cigarette smoke wafting in to room.
No lock on the door - I was deeply unhappy about this, with all our work computers and personal items (safety box ok for tiny things and only a key. Not coded) left in the room. When we asked for a lock for our door we’d were told they don’t offer that.
- Auton (10/5): A relaxing and quiet getaway! - Exceptional location! Peaceful and quiet with a quick walk to all attractions. The bedding and mattress are wonderfully comfortable (and I rarely say that)… also the staff are incredibly accommodating and helpful! We were given a map and very helpful guidance from Mohammed who also arranged a few outings for us. Couldn’t have been more delighted with our stay here! Be sure to reserve dinner on the rooftop, you won’t regret it!!
- Julian (8/5): Very recommended place - Very modern and uncluttered The air conditioner was a little loud and needs servicing
- Laura (10/5): Thank you for your engagement, really appreciate it. - I had a great stay and the staff was excellent! Nothing - was perfect.
- C. (9/5): Superb - The staff was very nice and always available to help us with whatever we needed.
- Petra (9/5): Superb -
- Roberto (10/5): - Beautiful riad and superb staff. It's the type of place you feel at home. We started every day with fresh breakfast, various breads, fruits and drinks. Mohamed arranged all transportation and 2 phenomenal activities, but whatever your heart desires. The riad is within walking distance to souks/shopping, restaurants and main square.
- Robert (10/5): If you want a riad instead of a hotel, this is an excellent choice. - Great location in the Medina but not in the touristy souk (markets). Everything is walkable, albeit in the narrow cobblestone streets where motor scooters like to reach their destinations quickly. (Walk on the right and defer to the scooters and occasional donkey carts). The staff are very nice and attentive. Breakfast is plentiful (yoghurt, OJ, breads and pain du chocolat, fresh fruit, three-four different jams, and coffee or tea, plus an egg or omelet dish that changes daily). Mohammed supervises and is very helpful. I also met the owner (an Englishman) who was very cordial. My room was comfortable. Hot water was plentiful. Tastefully decorated. There are some stairs to negotiate, including two steps from my bedroom to the bathroom.
- K (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rachel (10/5): See above. - Our return visit after a break of many years, to this beautiful, characterful riad in the medina and walking distance to all the sights but a haven of peace and quiet. Very helpful and welcoming staff. N/a
- Lisa (9/5): Superb - Fantastic stay, staff were very friendly and helpful. the owner went out of his way give us advice about the local area Breakfast was lovely and was made earlier than normal due to us going out on an early morning trip. Bedroom was lovely. as was the mint tea! When coming back to the apartment at night the passageway down to the entrance was fairly dark, a security light would have been helpful.
- Eve (7/5): Good - Staff and breakfast was fine - they were very helpful Nothing
- Katie (8/5): Fantastic gem - would visit again - Beautiful and calm riad located 10 min walk from the main hustle. All the staff were incredibly welcoming and took time to walk us through a map and personal recommendations in the areas - helpful in avoiding tourist traps. Tea, coffee and water all complimentary. Nothing
- Orjona (8/5): Very good - I loved the calmness of this Riad, the cleaniness, lovely aisthetics, beautiful terrace and most importantly great people. The nicest and most professional people I met in Morrocco. This riad was the perfect place to relax after the noisy streets of Marrakesh. As a woman travelling alone, I felt very safe in this accomodation. Wifi did not work well in my room. It worked when I was in the terrace. Breakfast included only sweet food, nothing savoury. The rooms dont lock from outside (although this may be the case with all riads).
- Scott (9/5): We only stayed here for 2 nights. It served our purpose, and we found the location to be fine. - Staff were very welcoming and kind. The location is within a labyrinth of twists and turns; once we got our bearings, we were able to find it. We had a cart man meet our driver and deliver our luggage, and the riad concierge helped us with our luggage at 4 am when we checked out to get to the driver that was arranged by the riad. The rooftop healthy breakfast is a good start to the day, and the afternoon wine bar is a nice touch. We had a room with 2 twin beds that were very comfortable; daily room service was a bonus with luxury sheets and towels. The riad was quiet inside. No lock on doors when you leave your room (but can lock from the inside), but a good size safe in the closet; nonetheless the staff were present at all times. The riad was clean and the large common room was pleasing. Our room was above the courtyard and next to an orange tree. Birds in the morning were a pleasant surprise. The hand-drawn map provided by the riad was helpful but could use some updating and be drawn better (adding a proper north arrow would be suggested). The entry street is very narrow and dark. We often returned after midnight. Although the riad seems a bit remote within the Medina, it turns out that it is close to some great museums within the Medina and near some artsy galleries, stores, and nice restaurants (that were on the map-see photo) that are not in the other busy end of the Medina.
- Helen (8/5): We had a wonderful stay , thank you. - Mohammed was very helpful and gave us lots of good tips.
We loved the fantastic roof terrace and lovely breakfasts.
Our room was peaceful and we loved the authenticity of the riad. Not a criticism but the bathroom could benefit from a lick of paint 😀
- Fabio (9/5): Superb -
- Chris (10/5): Lovely Riad - Excellent healthy breakfast. Staff all very helpful. Great recommendations for visits and restaurants. It was all as advertised. We felt comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional - The views and bird song from the roof terrace in the morning and afternoon was bliss. The sunset was beautiful.
Mohammed and Mehdi made us feel at home, Mohammed provided excellent knowledge of the area and do's and don't's which made is feel safe and confident. He even accompanied us to a local pharmacy that we needed.
Mehdi made us very welcome offering us tea and coffee.
The Riad is close enough to the main squares and souks but away enough that it's not overwhelming.
Very Beautiful and tasteful decor. We would definitely come back.
- Jean-francois (7/5): Very pleasant stay - Clean and neat, with nice service. The rooftop The location, the decoration
- Reanne (10/5): Amazing stay thanks to a wonderful team at Riad Dar Hanane. - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Riad Dar Hanane. The Riad has very easy access to the Souks, perfect for dinners, sight-seeing and shopping trips. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. The roof terrace was the highlight as it had a great view and allowed us to enjoy the sun and escape the busy streets for a while. Mohammed and the rest of the staff were extremely helpful and couldn’t do enough to improve our stay. If you’re looking at booking this Riad we would definitely recommend! Nothing to fault.
- Sophie (9/5): Wonderful ! I would recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic experience as well as luxurious. - Wonderful hotel ! Extremely friendly and helpful staff. The location is ideal for exploring the media! Just a few minutes walk to Cafe Despices 🙏🏼
Beautiful Riad with beautiful rooms and common spaces ! Highly recommended
- Thomas (10/5): I really enjoyed my time at Riad Dar Hanane. Mohammed and the entire staff were wonderful, very helpful. The Riad is bea - The riad was beautiful, very comfortable, and the staff were very welcoming and helpful.
- Janey (9/5): The staff were exceptionally kind, knowledgeable and helpful. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The Road had - The staff were exceptionally kind, knowledgeable and helpful. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The Road had beautiful rooms to relax in and amazing roof top views. We booked a Hammam and massage for the both of us which we knew was in another Riad. But really the tiny space could only cater for one at a time.
- Pascal (9/5): Superb -
- Scott (10/5): Exceptional - We were changed to Riad Adore which was wonderful! The staff, dinner, location all a plus! It was all perfect!
- James (10/5): Beautiful Riad - Mehdi, the night manager, welcomed us upon our arrival. He had prepared the most delicious dinner with an assortment of Moroccan salads, followed by a very tasty tagline and fruit salad for our dessert. Every morning, he made us a fresh breakfast every morning, with pancakes, fresh fruit, yoghurt and bread with delicious jams.
On our first morning, Mohamed, the manager, gave us some really useful tips and directions on how to explore the Medina.
On our last evening, the earthquake hit Marrakech, just as we had got back from a meal out. Mehdi’s quick reactions and knowledge of the local area no doubt saved us from injury or possibly worse. He stayed with us for the entire evening when he must have been desperate to see his own family. Despite what was going on around us, his calmness and professionalism in turn helped us to remain calm. The next morning, he made us another breakfast as he had done the previous two mornings - with coffee, tea, fresh juice and all the trimmings.
Riad Dar Hanane is a beautiful Riad, and really well placed for discovering the Medina. The staff are fantastic and knowledgeable, and very brave.
Thank you Mehdi and Mohamed - we will be back one day.
- Caroline (9/5): Superb -
- Jenny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elodiecnn (9/5): Perfect place to explore Marrakech - We had a great stay at Dar Hanane : the staff was lovely and helpful (thank you, Mohammed and Mehdi for all the great tips), the room was squeaky clean and made every day. The location is great to be both close to the energy of the medina while being a safe haven. We were very satisfied with the value for money.
We were glad we booked the arrival taxi directly with the hotel, it made everything very smooth. Overall we had a great stay, if there is anything to note : the beds and pillows were on the firmer side and the breakfast is not very varied, a lot of bread and sweet things. But nothing that spoiled our time there, we would stay again anytime.
- Julia (10/5): perfect stay, pretty, confortable and superb staff - very pretty Riad, great location and superb staff we liked it all, if I have to say something, only thing I will change would be the shampoo, nice aroma but poor quality
- Liese (9/5): A very special place to stay - It was an oasis of peace and calm in a busy city. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
- Timothy Nicholas (10/5): - Lovely staff. Nice property.
- Luca (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (9/5): lovely little Riad , Mohammed and team could not do more to help us and accommodate requests - the welcoming staff the lack of natural light in the rooms and would have liked more sound proof rooms
- Anonymous (9/5): we were really well looked after and given great local knowledge in this property - very authentic and peaceful place to stay nothing
- Paul (10/5): A fantastic short stay with amazing and friendly staff who made us feel welcome. - Everything, the location, the hosts, the facilities - all excellent. Nothing
- Andy (10/5): We would be very happy to stay here again on our next visit to The Kesh - Excellent facilities in this price range. we had a lovely room not looking over the courtyard which was very private. The staff did an excellent job of assisting us from the moment we booked. we used the airport transfer, evening meal and spa/haman. we could have found all three slightly cheaper independently at the same standard, but we were happy to pay a little extra for the service. Nothing, I did read some negative reviews about some of the rooms with reference to privacy and noise, we did not have an issue with our room, but I could see that it is possible that some visitors, under certain circumstances may have been affected.
- Onaiza (3/5): Poor - Nice location, good service, the people were nice the room was just too small with windows that were high, so ended up being claustrophobic.
the bed was queen size for two people so difficult to sleep, should've been a double bed at least
the bathroom was just too small and narrow
overall it seemed like an afterthought, almost like a store room had been converted into a guest room. And I paid good money for it, it wasn't cheap so felt a bit cheated
- Adam (10/5): An amazingly beautiful hotel in an incredible place that is worth every penny! - Dar Hanane is beautiful, it is very old and evocative, but very well maintained. You enter through a beautiful ancient door and there is an amazing courtyard on the right with a plunge pool and orange trees surrounded by bedrooms. The whole building is immaculate, painted in white with lovely spaces to sit and read. The roof top is one of the best things about the place, it has an amazing view of the Medina, and has sun all day long with views of the Atlas Mountains and the call to prayer resonating all around you at sunset.
We were fortunate enough to have the place to ourselves, and had a wonderful time in the sitting room with the fire burning in the cooler January nights. I cannot recommend Dar Hanane and the people that work there enough.
We had a delicious supper there one night which was beautiful, and breakfast served on the roof every morning was delicious and varied.
A wonderful experience, enhanced by the staff who were so helpful and full of advice about Marrakech. The Honesty bar was poorly stocked and expensive, we bought our own drinks to put them in there and ice wasn’t easily available.
The transfers from an to the airport were a lot more than expensive than the normal price when you ask a taxi driver. It was convenient to have these things arranged but you will pay a premium.
some of the restaurant recommendations were a bit boring but that is more a question of taste than a criticism.
- Neville (9/5): Superb -
- Vardhini (9/5): Superb -
- Saqib (5/5): Very overpriced for what you're getting - I think the breakfast and service from the staff was great. It was pleasant to be the only guests at the time of our stay, but that might not be a good sign.. The location was terrible - when I was booking, I didn't know any better, I thought as long as you're inside the Medina its all the same. There wasn't really any guidance ahead of time. For what you're paying, this is not a good spot - there are always men outside smoking and eyeballing you when you enter into the riad (which you have to knock to get inside, it was very hard to find the first time, there are kids running around grabbing at you when you try to enter. This is all being said after experiencing the entire Medina, this location was considerably worse.
That's all well and good, not every location is going to be prime, but then you're charged as if it is (and even some reviews stated its a good location, not sure how that's the case).
The Riad also helped booking a taxi to another city and we paid about 50% more than the standard rate. This was a real letdown because we thought we could trust Dar Hanane in getting us a decent rate. A little here and there is ok, but 2,250 Dirham vs 1,500 Dirham is way too big of a difference. The 1,500 rate was the rate multiple others had told us they paid (when we inquired at our destination) and even the rate we paid when our other hotel booked the return trip for us (returning back to RAK).
It was also concerning that the main door is locked, with a key, from the inside. So if there is an emergency, you need to find someone with a key who might be sleeping. I got a food delivery at around 11pm, not too late for folks on a vacation, but I couldn't get the food from the driver because the door was locked and all the lights were out. I didn't realize we'd be trapped inside..
The bathroom shower and one of the sinks also didn't drain properly.
Again, all of this is ok and forgivable, but I'm almost embarrassed to say how much we spent per night and considering the above, that's unexcusable.
- Una (8/5): Very good -
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Wallis (10/5): Brilliant stay! - Muhammed was great. He sat with us on arrival and gave us the full low down on getting around the medina! From places to visit, to eat and to shop!! He couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming, as were the rest of the staff - we didn't want to leave! We'd love to come and stay again.
- Luke (10/5): Exceptional - everything, it was stunning and the people fantastic. especially the night guard who made us an amazing breakfast each morning and was extremely helpful! (Mahed). some people had noted we could be lost in the Medina but the landmarks are pretty clear and we found our way easily nothing at all
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Niamh (9/5): Superb -
- Isabelle (9/5): Feels like home - MUST TRY the delicious food! - The two best things about our stay at Riad Dar Hanane was the hospitality and the food. The staff were extremely friendly and we could easily chat with them. Upon check in, we received a well-explained orientation of what to expect in Marrakech, and how to walk from the Riad to the main places in the Medina. We booked dinner twice, and lunch once at the Riad and it was the best food we had in Marrakech - especially the salads & tagines.
- Luisa (10/5): Exceptional - O Staff do hotel era extraordinário! Nada.
- Kate (9/5): a perfect relaxing place to stay which is full of beauty and peace - beautiful peaceful tasteful and serene nothing
- Rick (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (5/5): Passable - Staff was nice enough, but it wasn’t charming at all and there is no attention to details. Water pressure was terrible, the beds were uncomfortable and rooms noisy. Not good value for money.
- Annie (8/5): it feel like being home - friendly stuff, design and breakfast sometimes at night can be noisy
- Riederer (10/5): Exceptional - Exceptional stay, great and friendly staff, perfect location, very quiet and clean.
- Salma (10/5): - This stay was by far the best during our 14 days across Morocco. It's situation in the old Medina - an absolute oasis in the hustle and bustle.
The property is a gem and the staff are absolutely wonderful. Mohamed the manager was so helpful and welcoming, and the chef is a gem with the food so good we just did not get to go out at all to eat.
- Tyler (10/5): Charming & Authentic - The hospitality at this Riad was great! Zechariah was a very conscientious and kind host. Be advised that it's deep in the Medina so message/call ahead and someone will meet you on the main road to show you the way when you first arrive!
- Kate (8/5): Fascinating - Staff were really nice and very helpful. The location was great. The room was spacious and comfy with lots of clean towels daily. In one of the articles in the telegraph (linked on website) it mentions the property has an honesty bar but this wasn't the case. It's important to point out that its a 'dry' riad.
- Julian (10/5): - Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was clean. Close to shops and tourist attractions.
- jennifer (10/5): Dar Hanane Well Worth a Visit! - Dar Hanane was a well run, 4 star Riad with comfortable quiet rooms, excellent food, a very caring and competent staff that will help you with all aspects of your journey, including excellent recommendations for restaurants arranging tours and even lodging in nearby towns. I cannot say enough about Mohamed and the others at Dar Hanane who helped make our stay in Marrakech very special! Thank you again.
- Shar (10/5): - The staff is incredible! They would always serve us fresh breakfast and have hot Moroccan tea for us after a long day of exploring. Mohamed was amazing- he helped us get around the city. And the rest of the staff is super kind.
The one thing that I wish was different was the location of the hotel - its very hard to find it in between of hustle bustle of the souks. We got ripped off by our cab driver from the airport and got dropped off in the middle of nowhere and were forced to follow a random stranger who in return asked us money for it. Would definitely recommend a airport transfer.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very close to the market. Staff was very helpful and hospitable.
- David (10/5): Great Riad - beware agressive self appinted guides - Dar Hanane is in a side alley just outside the main souk. That makes it more peaceful. It's a calm cool oasis inside allowing you to leave the air con off in daytime temperatures of 40C. Beware of local youths offering to help you find it then insisting on a large tip. Though well travelled we found this intimidating.
- Paul (10/5): Riad - Definitely worth a visit - Highly recommended. Lovely Riad with excellent staff. The meal we had there was the best we had in Marrakesh. Can’t praise this place highly enough.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Dar Hanane was the perfect place to stay in Morocco! It was walking distance to all of the major tourist spots and the local food and activities were incredible. The staff at Dar Hanane was kind and hospitable; always making sure we were comfortable and satisfied with our stay.
- Courtney (10/5): Wonderful riad in the heart of the Medina - Dar Hanane is wonderful. They are very flexible and relaxed and very accommodating. The aesthetic is understated and beautiful.
- Carole (10/5): - Good location, possible to walk everywhere. Friendly, helpful staff. Well maintained in a simple stylish Morroccan way.
- Erica (10/5): - Very tranquil and peaceful inside, and we feel safe.
The room is quite spacious and the whole place smell like a spa facility.
The roof top terrace is a must visit, we had breakfast and dinner there. Really enjoyed it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff at Dar Hanane was impeccable. They told us everything we needed to know to make our way around Marrakech and went above and beyond in every way.
- Donald (10/5): - Riad manager was very good at providing maps and directions for the area around the riad. He was also very helpful in giving ideas for area activities, day trips and restaurants. Our room in the riad was comfortable and the roof top terrace was wonderful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very attentive staff, great view from the terrace, nice quiet part of the medina. Not that great a breakfast
- Verified traveler (10/5): Super - This was a great Place to go. The staff was very halpful and Pleasant. It was realy clean
We are realy happy to have stayed there. The loction is ideal to Explorer Marrasche.
- Marty (10/5): - Staff was Excellent!
