Guest Reviews
- Gregory (8/5): - This room was very basic, it's only high point is the location. The floor was very cold and could have used an area rug. On the whole it was a pretty nice place though. Toilet broke but that could happen anyplace.
- Reba (8/5): - Nice little place to stay for a night, close to many hiking trails.
Overpriced restaurant & room, but expected for the secluded area.
Friendly staff and beautiful veiw.
- Beth (8/5): - Quaint little Mom & Pop place which was just perfect for our needs. Gorgeous setting. Delicious restaurant. Highly recommend it!
- MAUREEN (8/5): - It was great
- Jill (6/5): - Thin walls. You could hear everything in the next room. A fair attempt at renovations but needs more work
- Florence (2/5): - The room was unclean and full of flies when we checked in. Very poor value for money.
- curtis (10/5): - Very unique and remote facility that offers a safe and comfortable place to stay as close to the middle part of the Park to allow you to explore more without the long drives. Keep in mind this location offers very little to no cell service and the wifi provided is weak to none so staying in touch to the outside world in the evenings is marginal and takes patients
- Juliana (10/5): - Local tranquilo com uma vista espetacular das montanhas.
- Ronald (10/5): - It’s such a beautiful location, our room was recently updated..
- Doreen (8/5): - Our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was tasty and our server was very good. Can't beat the location!
- Victoria (2/5): - Room was dirty also the bathroom , the bedding was also dirty and not ironed. It is very noisy with people walking past your door and the walls are very thin. There’s not a lot to see around here apart from a big lake. It was not worth the money they charged, Plus the kettle was dirty inside . If you’re not be fussy it’s okay to stay at this place.
- Predrag (10/5): - We did expected to find at least couple bags of tea and hairdryer , but did not happened
- tricia (8/5): - Room was clean. Restaurant staff was excellent
- Gavin (8/5): - Pretty standard motel. Our room seemed newly renovated. Bathroom was nice and bed was comfortable. Room was clean. Check in and out was smooth. Area was beautiful. We were also enjoy our mean at restaurant.
- Roger (10/5): - Everyone on staff was welcoming, friendly and helpful.
- Terry (10/5): - In the middle between Lake Louise and Jasper. Nice location.
- Dori (6/5): - We recently stayed there while we toured Alberta. It's ok for one night. It's very basic but our room was clean. The shower had a bit of mold and could have used a little extra cleaning but was still decent. We ate dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. The food was pretty good. The overall property could have used a tidy up. Definitely not a luxury "resort" but hotels are very limited in this area.
- Yvonne (4/5): - Rooms very old and definitely not worth the price charged. Area around is beautiful but the lodge hotel leaves a lot to be desired. The restaurant on the property was good.
- Scott (6/5): - The room was average for the money we spent. It was OK though. the bedding didn’t seem very fresh.
- Angela (4/5): - The door to our room wasn't working properly and they said they were going to get someone to look at it but they didn't seem to. We didn't feel safe so we left and drove all the way home.
- Sam (8/5): - Decent location for Abraham Lake but the rooms were not worth the cost. The beds are uncomfortable, there's no fan to make up for the lack of AC and the bathrooms have doors that connect you to the neighboring room and allow noise and light from the other room to invade your space.
- Yujun (10/5): - We arrived at 7 pm after closing time of the front desk. But we were happily greeting by hotel staff. Willing to give high grade to their house keeping, restaurant and surrounding of the hotel. Will definitely come again and introduce to friends.
- Laurie (10/5): - Clean room.
- Ian (6/5): - You get what you pay for
- D (6/5): Fine for a short stay - Room was basic but fine for just a passing visit, could have done with a kettle and some mugs so we could make tea/coffee rather than a confusing coffee machine which we couldn’t work.
- Ronald (8/5): Good value for lodging near the Icefields Parkway - The DTR is a no frills property that is very clean, updated, and comfortable. It’s a good value and relatively close to the Icefields Parkway. Note that there are few lodging choices in the area that are reasonably priced.
- Brian Rodney (10/5): - Safe comfortable affordable!
- Rodney (10/5): - Great place to stay between Banff and Jasper
- Andrea (10/5): - Property was
- Teresa (8/5): - The best part was the location, restaurant was very good too
- Tim (8/5): - The property was just as described, and check-in was easy. The restaurant was nice, and my wife and I enjoyed the tremendous service by a young lady from the French Alps who spent the summer taking care of customers. If you decide to stay, ask the employees how to get to the beach - it's a little bit of a hike down and back, but the views are well worth it!
- Adrian (8/5): - Great accomodation. Quite remote. Diesel Generator power and satellite internet. Gas station, groceries, restaurant. Fairly well priced considering how remote it is. No cellular coverage, like most of the rockies. I'd stay here again.
- EDITH (8/5): - Ir was the only property avavilable in the surrounding area if where wr wanted to go.
- Elaine (6/5): - We had a ground floor room and because the building is a log cabin walking in the room above is very noisy.
The king bed was very comfortable but housekeeping was not good
You are asked to request if you want the room refreshed
I asked for the bed to be remade on 2 mornings and it wasn’t
Because the resort is remote you basically have to eat dinner at the restaurant and the menu is pretty basic although they understood gluten free perfectly
- Marlene (4/5): - Bathroom could be cleaner. Coffee maker missing the pot. Despite asking twice it was not replaced. No reading lamps in room. No hairdryer. Very basic older motel priced double what it is worth. Staff seem very disinterested. Restaurant food nothing special. Servers excellent though.
- NILESHKUMAR (6/5): - Bathroom has no handle for safety.
- Ankit (10/5): - Wifi issues in the rooms, needs to go out to near the modems to get internet. There is no cellular network in that area, otherwise David Thompson is and always been an amazing experience!
- JOAN (6/5): - Comfortable beds
Clean
- Glenna (8/5): - A convenient stop for shorter term stays, beautiful mountain views!
- Claire (8/5): - The property itself is good, very clean, but no air conditioning. The area is in the middle of no where. No cell phone signal at all, and wifi is slow. No restaurant or grocery store nearby, except the one in the hotel.
- Z (6/5): - The room was spacious but dirty. There were bugs everywhere and the towels had yellow stains. We only went there for a stopover.
- Subhabrata (8/5): Good comfortable stay - It is quite a nice resort. The restaurant was nice too. The washroom is bit on terrible side. But restaurant service was good.
- Matt (4/5): - There is a boil water advisory in effect as of August 29th. Had to find out about this after checking in by a poster from Alberta Health Services, the man at the front desk did not mention it and did not provide a means to boil water until I came back and asked. I found lodge staff were generally in a bad mood. The restaurant was popular and the food was good. Wifi is provided but there seems to only be one router located in the front office. If you are not located near the front office you are out of luck.
- Nadeem (6/5): - First we got a room which had infestation of ants all over even on bed. Then we asked for a change and other room was better. If we reached late and no one in office then what we could do. They have to check rooms before giving it to someone.
- Lusong (10/5): - Wifi doesn’t work. Other than that, it’s fantastic
- Vincent (8/5): Good for one or two nights - The hotel is good and a perfect place to stay for maybe one or two nights. There is a restaurant on site but it had closed by the time we got there so it was a few snacks from the small shop next door. The place was very comfortable and clean and completely isolated, a big log cabin in the mountains.
- Darin (8/5): - Rooms are newly renovated beds shower ect are all in good shape small fridge freezer was also handy. No AC makes for warm rooms at night with limited air flow. The thin doors between the connecting rooms create for noise to carry through I could see this be an issue for some. The setting in the mountains is pretty special and that alone bumps up its raining. The restaurant and staff were very friendly great service.
- Sharon (8/5): - Loved the resort and location. It was great having a restaurant on site and it didn't take advantage of the location by being really expensive.
The only downside was not having air conditioning in the room. We had the window open but ended up having to close it due to road noise.
- Francesca (6/5): - We arrived late, we had no towels in our room. Our window was wide open, and our suite was freezing. Our suite was dirty. The shower has grime all over it. This place is only good if you’re looking for a place to sleep and even then it’s a rough place to stay.
Breakfast was OK at the restaurant.
- Helen (4/5): - Rooms are VERY basic and not clean!
- Sandra (6/5): - The place is pretty run down and badly needs up dates.
However my biggest beef is that the place is supposed to be “pet friendly”. It is in the motel room, but the only restaurant on site (and for many miles) doesn’t allow dogs on the patio, so we had to eat our dinner on the bed. Meal was frozen triangle fish and chips.
Restaurant closes at 7:30pm. Poor selection of food, and the power to the whole site was off in the morning, so no breakfast.
The motel room was clean, but very basic and noisy. Bedding was really nice.
The area is spectacular and worth the visit, but not a great place to stay for more than a stopover night.
- Joy (10/5): - Excellent location. Clean, spacious, fun park. Friendly staff.
- Paul (4/5): - Remarkable, that in an area of the Canadian Rockies were no cell coverage is available, each hotel room “did no”t have Wi-Fi access, and all my “on line”business had to be done on a table at the on-site restaurant.
Speaking of the restaurant, the food was acceptable, and the staff were exceptionally kind and helpful
The housekeeping help were extremely obtrusive, loud, inappropriate, with the staff, likewise, at the welcome desk, quite dismissive,
- Sharon (8/5): - The food at the restaurant was exemplary. The room was comfortable and very clean.
The only issue was the room did not have a microwave.
- Aziz (10/5): - Everything there is excellent definitely I am coming back thank you
- Eunice (10/5): - Very nice room, clean, all amenities. The food was great at the restaurant, but I would say there could be more vegan options.
- Melissa (8/5): - Clean and quiet with good views. Power went out multiple times which wasn’t too much of an inconvenience but could be depending on what you are doing in the room at the time (ex. Watching tv or showering).
- Ross (8/5): - Good value for money. Clean and pleasant
- Zeel (10/5): - Best report on the area.
- Kate (10/5): - Friendly resort in a beautiful location. Room was clean and comfortable. The resort had lots to offer. The camping area was a little tired but nothing a bit of paint wouldn’t fix. I would go back.
- Tiffany (2/5): - There was mold in the bathroom with no options to change rooms or stay anywhere else.
- Fatemeh (2/5): - I booked this hotel and I was on my way there when I had a medical emergency. My friends were not aware of this and had checked us in already before we arrived. First of all this hotel made a huge mistake of checking me in without me being present. If that’s the case I could have gone to the hotel and pretended to be anyone and they would have checked us in. I could take legal action for this as the hotel never verified my identity or checked with me and just checked us in without us being there cause it was close to their closing time and the staff did not care enough to verify what was going on. My friends also said the hotel was really dirty and the beds were unclean and they had to use their own covers because of how dirty it was. Also this was all a medical emergency that caused me to not be able to come to the hotel and it was not intentional or in my control. When I spoke to the hotel they did not even consider my situation and rudely responded. I emailed them and I called them and both times they were so rude and spoke harshly without any consideration of the medical emergency I had suffered through. They never returned my money. I was going to go to the hotel and was headed there but I had to go to the nearest hospital. This is terrible and I do not recommend. Oh and my friends who went didn’t even have signal and couldn’t contact us there. Disappointment. Don’t bother to go to this hotel. You will waste your money and be mistreated.
- elizabeth (2/5): - No microwave, 1 entry room card, if loat, cost $5. This card was needed to turn on the lights such that with 5 people, it can be more complex. 2 TV stations and internet that only worked by the expensive laundromats. Bring your food as even a pack of hotdogs wieners (basic) will set a family back $15. Everything will cost 3x more than the nearest town.
- Michelle (8/5): - It’s not clean enough for the price that I pay. And there’s no wifi inside the room but there’s wifi outside even in the campground.
- Caroline (8/5): - I loved the bed and comforter. The room was adequate. It was however too hot in the room and could not get heat to shut off. I did sleep well though. We arrived after hours to get our key and everything was easy. Great to wake up to the mountains. We could not get wifi in our room either but I was ok with that. My aon was not lol
- yan (8/5): - nice place to stay
- shohreh (8/5): - Nice location,internet access was limited
- ken (10/5): - It's located in a quite stretch of hwy. Wifi isn't the best if room is located in the mid section of the long building. Our room wasn't serviced during a 2 days stay. First floor room has really thin ceiling, you can hear a pin drop from people above you.
- Khorshid (6/5): - Poor wifi, if you want to work online, you are going to miss.
- Czeslaw (8/5): - Very basic (stayed in hotel room). It was clean though.
- Joy (4/5): - Very average place to stay. We stayed for 2 nights. The bathroom was clean and the area around the property is nice. But lots of areas for improvement.
1. No door / floor mats. No dustbin in the room.
2. Some towels had holes in them.
3. No cell reception in the area and the Wifi was pathetic!
4. No mirror in the room.
5. The exhaust fan in the bathroom is very loud.
6. Some linens were stained too.
7. Accepted place if you get it below $100 mark.
- Christine (4/5): - The price was astronomical. No staff for when I booked in or checked out. The property was poorly lit. No amenities…. And how it it was advertised, there is a lot of room for improvement, including cleanliness, bedding, linen and the list goes on
- om (10/5): - Excellent service and big thank you to vivian
- Ashley (2/5): - The room was full of horse flies upon arrival, toilet would not flush, office staff extremely rude and not accommodating at all. Refused to let me speak to a manager… I have emailed the resort with no reply, zero attempt from DTR to address my concerns.
Garbage piles everywhere
- AKHIL (10/5): - Good
- Robert (8/5): Better than Expected. - I had read a bunch of negative reviews and almost canceled our booking. I am glad we didnt. The room has been renovated recently and was much nicer than I was expecting. We ate dinner at the restaurant and it was also quite good. We would stay here again.
- Vern (8/5): - For a remote resort this was a great stay and the staff were awesome.
- Dallas (8/5): - Smoker for cooking the meat at the restaurant was unique. Very good food. Beautiful setting
- Verified traveler (6/5): Family vacation - The TV was not working in our room and internet connection was really bad. However, the staff was kind enough to let us switch to another room. The condition and cleanliness of the rooms were just okay. The resort was the only lodging between Banff and Jasper, hence we stayed there to enable us to hit both national parks.
- George (6/5): - Place in need of a remodel
- Rebekah (2/5): - Room booked for 4 adults. Set up of the room was only for two people - two towels, two cups, two bottles of water etc. Beds uncomfortable and wifi didn't work. Restaurant doesnt allow people after 7.30pm. Went to the "cowboy pub" which was just under a shelter and only minimal choices. Wouldnt be recommending. Not worth the money paid and cant contact anyone after office closed (at 6.30).
- Timothy (6/5): - The check in staff, one in particular
, had an attitude. The cleaning staff were excellent and friendly. The bed was really firm but ok. The owner was Chinese and spent time talking with Chinese guests at breakfast but ignored other guests.
- Stephen (6/5): - Experience spoiled by difficult check-in experience. Total lack of welcome. Question 'where is our room please' Answer - vague point to 'over there'. Good that it had laundry machines, bad that some of them were out of order. Limited dining options at the one restaurant. Luckily we found a better option just up the road. Best part is that the resort is in the middle of beautiful landscape and lake
- Shivanie (10/5): - We had a great stay at the Dave Thomas Resort. It room was recently renovated and it was nice and clean. The view from our room was amazing. Would definitely recommend!
- Satya (10/5): - Renovated and clean rooms
- Tammy (6/5): Just ok. Go in with low expectations and you will - The resort itself is mediocre at best. The washrooms in the public area were disgusting. The womens bathroom was worse than any roadside gas station bathroom I have ever been in. The restaurant was ok nothing special but ok. The Cowboy Pub in the campground was cool. Great staff, good food, fun atmosphere, that was a highlight. Stayed in the motel. It was clean but the bed was uncomfortable. It was adequate and it was better than camping in the rain but not worth 300.00 in my opinion. There are no other hotel accommodations in the area and its high season so I'm not shocked or disappointed. Just leaving an honest review.
- Stephen (6/5): - We stayed here for a half-way break as we worked up the Ice Fields Parkway. Positive elements: off the beaten tourist track in a stunning area of natural beauty. Negative elements: check-in staff were less than helpful, limited dining options with the onsite restaurant.
- Norman (10/5): - nice atmoisphere
- Anita (10/5): - Clean, comfy beds and convenient. Restaurant had tasty food, wasn’t open until 8 am, closed at 8:30 so we didn’t get a chance to have the breakfast. Small thing - was travelling light for the trails so a blow dryer in the rooms would be handy ☺️
- Anita (10/5): - This was a great place to stay, clean and convenient before starting our back country trip. Sadly for us the breakfast time was 8 am, however the dinner we had when we returned was hearty and tasty. The beds were very comfortable - small suggestion might be a blow dryer in the rooms - I was packing light and would be great for that shower after the trails.
- Wenzheng (10/5): - Very nice
- Sha Wong (8/5): - Everything was clean and comfortable, with a peaceful environment and strong hot water for showers. There was a power outage in the morning, and although they tried to fix it, it wasn’t resolved in time — we had to get ready in the dark. One unexpected thing was that a cleaner opened our door before checkout without knocking, but they quickly realized and left.
- Kevin (6/5): - Hotel is super basic, for the money paid you would expect a lot more.
The hike down to Abraham Lake is stunning although a bit of a hike. make sure to wear appropriate footwear and take water with you.
- Brenda (4/5): - No microwave, no hair dryer, only one chair for two people not enough clothes hangers..
- Benjamin (8/5): - We had food at the Restaurant. It was delicious
- Amit (6/5): - I like how close it is from the mountains, room was of decent size, clean.
I was really unappy at the poor internet connection, rather little or no internet connection in my two days stay
- Lawrence (2/5): -
No Phone. No Ice bucket. No clock. No Luggage rack. No Coat hangers. No Hot water. No Lamps. No Microwave. No Menu. No Tea. No internet. No door mat. No blackout curtain. No AC. No door chain. No soundproofing between units. Cash machine broken. Dirty. Wrinkled bedding. Miniature tv. Horribly awful mattresses.
- Sheldon (6/5): - Time to update and put some AC in the rooms.
- ken (10/5): - Property was clean and quiet. Next door to Miette Hot Springs was really a treat.
- Jack (8/5): - Enjoyed our stay here but a bit disappointing there was no cooking facilities (microwave) in the room with it being so far out.
Even though there are fly nets on the windows we had flys, wasps and a cricket end up in our room.
