Guest Reviews
- Barry (10/5): - I stayed at the new hostel on King Street that replaced the old building very suddenly. As a result they are still in the process of setting it up but even so it is still welcoming and pleasant. They must've worked really hard to get it ready so quickly. My room and bed were excellent and I imagine nowhere else offers such great value in a major city centre on a Friday night. The kitchen and bathroom facilities were modern and clean and the kitchen offerings were very generous. I enjoyed my coco pops and numerous cups of tea while hungover from a music festival the night before. Check in and departure times and in line with modern habits and I was able to cross the road and get on a bus to continue my journey. Best of all was the guy in charge. He is brilliant and really cares about his guests. This place is excellent now but when it's completed it'll be outstanding. It will be my go to accommodation for events and festivals in or near Leeds city centre
- Verified traveler (2/5): Never ever go here - Terrible. Cancelled reservation 2days before checkin. Declined refund. Poor to zero comms.
- Joanne (10/5): convenient - basic room in a dorm.
breakfast basic but based on price worth it.
- Paul (10/5): - New property. Great location near train station.
- Joshua (8/5): - Neat and tidy
- Ugochukwu (10/5): Lovely - My experience was awesome
- Gary (6/5): Passable - I used it just so I could stay for the night. It did its job. The guy there was dead friendly and showed me around. they seem to be no hot water when I washed my hands did not ask our complaint as I was only there for the night and out all day. Good location.
- Tracy (10/5): - The property was nice and clean and the staff member was fabulous.
- Jill (8/5): - Central location. Cheap for a Saturday night.
The manger was friendly and helpful.
- Philip (2/5): - Friendly staff, major problems in and around the building.
- Kristen (10/5): Wonderful people and snacks. Very worth the price - Highly recommend to young and experienced travelers. We got in and they showed us to our comfortable room. The bathroom and the kitchen were upstairs. It worked for me as I was able to sleep ten hours through the night. It was great to meet friendly travelers and enjoy breakfast and snacks with them. With all the cereal and bread I imagine many nomads have caught up on lost meals.
- Andrew (10/5): Leeds Conference Visit - Great location and friendly staff.
- Joanne (10/5): - 10 min walk from train station.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nerfed by the bathroom - Really great little hostel, wonderful customer service and super comfy room. The room itself was completely tidy but the shared bathrooms were not - one toilet had water all over the floor and often drops of pee around the outside, the other toilet couldn’t flush so it was just full of toilet paper and pee. Other than the bathroom situation, it’s lovely!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Reasonably priced accommodation in need of refurb - The room itself was next to the back entrance so unfortunately you had people coming in and out at unsociable hours. I had to lock my door as i did not feel safe with presumed guests hanging outside my window late at night.
Cleanliness was not great as my pillow had a long hair on it from the person we stayed before and there were several stains on the duvet/sheets/mattress. The place was a little tired although can appreciate it was a reasonable rate for a Saturday night near the city centre.
Bathrooms were not in the best condition although I did have a warm shower so that was to be commended.
Overall, I think it was reasonable value for money but I would not stay again.
- Renny (10/5): - Excellent
- VICTOR (8/5): - It was ok
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not great - Our host was really welcoming and allowed us to check in an hour early, which was great. The location is excellent.
However, our room (two single beds) was, to be honest, abysmal, even for the price. The carpets were full of ominous brown stains, there was no lamp or place for storage, hairs and stains on a thin and old bedding, and bugs. There was a bizarre noise of running water which sounded like a leak that could be heard constantly. The bathroom had no paper to dry hands, which was frustrating. I've never felt more excited for my own bed.
- Gabriel (10/5): Great time - Met friendly people 😄
- Omolade (2/5): - My handbag was stolen within 3 minutes at the reception.I was waiting to be checked in when one of them stole my handbag. They couldn’t play me the CCTV of when I entered the reception. They refused to reply to my email till date. They said they will investigate but nothing was done.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good private room for 4, does what it says on the tin
- Paul (10/5): - Great welcome, friendly. Good location. Would use here again.
- Ahammed fawaz (10/5): - Cheap and best hostel in leeds.
- Dinesh Bhaurao (10/5): - The shower machines make lot of noise and little bit scary. They need to be changed. Otherwise everything is fine.
- L (6/5): Bring PJs and a dressing gown - A couple of simple changes could have made a big difference
Just plonking a flat sheet onto a mattress doesn't work and waking up on the bare mattress thinking how many others have done so too is a bit gross.
The rooms with showers are freezing and there's nowhere to put your clothes which you have to take in with you as they're a long walk from some rooms.
The constant access to breakfast and toast is good and the welcome is friendly.
I appreciate it's at the budget end and didn't expect luxury, just not to feel like I'm reliving bad decisions from the early 200s
- Verified traveler (6/5): Fine for a night close to the city. Nothing more. - Good city centre location 10mins walk to the main streets. Comfortable bed and heater available if needed. A simple self serve breakfast was included. Unfortunately, the female room I was in was located quite far from the bathrooms and you had to walk past the reception desk and up two flights of stairs. Not ideal in the middle of the night and may make some feel uncomfortable walking past staff on reception. Also, the gentleman on reception was very loud in the morning right outside the room which wasn’t very considerate. The hostel does the job for a one night stay if you want to be in the city on a budget.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Someone stole my Coke in can in the fridge - Receptionist told us that we can put our food in the fridge and we don’t have to worry because noone will take it, so I happily left my coke drink there. The next morning it was gone.
- A (8/5): Great value for money - Leeds City Centre for this price - exceptional. Yes, it's not the Ritz, but if certainly met my expectations in terms of warm welcome, good atmosphere, etc. Yes, some work to be done (lockers don't work), but for somewhere safe and clean to rest my head for a night - couldn't fault it. Fellow guests were friendly, mainly medical students who were polite and courteous. I also loved the 24 hour availability of tea/coffee/toast and cereal, allowing me to work late with sustenance. Definitely will stay again.
- Christopher (10/5): - This is one of my "go to" spots in Leeds when you just need somewhere to sleep.
Comfortable, Clean and all of the facilities that you need.
- JULIAN (6/5): - Budget = cheap
Good location
Clean
Safe
- David (10/5): - Didn't see anything worth commenting upon. The manager, Phil, pointed out a few things along with his expectations of clients
A great stay altogether
- Steven (10/5): Cheap And Cheerful - Affordable and basic. Ideal if all you’re after is a bed after a night out. Wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Leeds.
- Philip (8/5): - Does exactly what it say on the tin. Somewhere to kip for twenty quid.
- Anne (10/5): - Cheap and cheerful Good
location very helpful staff Thanks Phill
- Russ (6/5): Good, well run venue - Clean and well presented property. The card machine did not work but the receptionist was efficient to resolve payment issue.
The property fronts onto a side road so parking is easy as there ia £5 charge to park in the car park behind.
On the night of Thursday 12th a we had Italy's answer to a drunk Dom Jolly berating his family back home and raising all the dormitories whilst wandering around the street like a part boiled piece of fusilli pasta.
Breakfast provision was good and the bathroom was clean.
I would recommend visiting
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Cheap and cheerful no complaints
- Dean (2/5): Charged 6 nights for a cancellation - This hotel, I booked in error, as did not realise it was ladies only. They called me 10 mins after I booked and started shouting at me for booking the wrong room and I would be charged. They charged me for 6 nights for a homeless person, that could not stay 1 night. They refused to refund, which meant I could not use this to book elsewhere. Disgusting
- Samit (2/5): - Paid for 2weeks .left after one hour as services were not up to scratch
- Marcantonio (8/5): My review - It's a very clean hostel for sure but I've founded functional and rather soulless. Maybe it's because of the lack of travellers because of the current circumstance. Overall, it was a pleasant experience overall.
- Carol (10/5): Brilliant - Phil and Angela great hosts. Everything you need. Near everything you need. 10/10 xxx
- Ahmad ab (2/5): - It was not good because everyone the light of one and hitter was every bed ?
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Liked the room and bed didnt like the breakfast or the staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean & convenient - The hostel was very clean and secure. Convenient for the airport bus and the city center.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - What a horrible property with lot of noise. Not at all soundproofed. We couldn't sleep. The staff was eating just beside our room and we could hear noise of her cutlery. There was no manners for her to quiet when we requested. Not at all recommended.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lack of plugs in dorm, no socket near bed. Only 4 in room. Two of which were behind someone else's bed. Clean and comfortable. Has hairdryers which is great
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The welcome was friendly and accommodating and the staff very attentive- especially the manager. The private room was clean, bright and spacious. The hostel is in a quiet area and is as quiet as the guests staying allow. I would have liked a socket next to the bed for my phone but, as with many hotels, all sockets, of which there were plenty, were on the opposing wall.
A small gripe that the flat sheet on the bed was too small for the bed exposing the mattress if you moved in the night. The shared toilet by the morning was a little grue, but down to guests poor use of the facilities not staff. The wifi was a little weak, perhaps due to volume of traffic.
Breakfast is cereals and toast, tea and coffee and, as is common in a hostel, cater for yourself. A fresh fruit option would have been a nice touch but no complaints in all. The kitchen and dining area were clean and well stocked and labelled.
I'd recommend this hostel as one of the more hotel-like of those I've used. Its well situated for train stations and car parks and easy to reach for a great price and served my purpose well.
- Ciaran (8/5): Good budget option - Comfortable and clean form room, good free breakfast, friendly and helpful service. Showers and toilets clean. Good location. Only negative was that the upper bunk beds did not have direct power point access, which is something that could be changed. Would happily stay again.
- Mel (10/5): - Great place... warm and clean! Thanks got having me!
- jonathan (10/5): Well positioned accommodation - It was close to town and for work. Did what it needed to do.
- Sara (6/5): The Cheese Bandit - The overall cleanliness of the place is acceptable even though the carpet could use a good shampoo, it smells of stale beer and dirty socks in some patches. The rooms are kept tidy but I was horrified to see one of the cleaning ladies spreading the duvet on the floor to neatly fold it in half and place it back on the bed. Also, I felt uncomfortable taking them up on their "breakfast munchies all day" policy and felt watched when consuming anything such as tea and toast in the afternoon. I was also reprimanded by a staff member for mistakingly trying to spread what looked like butter on my toast. What was by the bread and packaged in a golden foil paper ended up being cheese. It set a tone of mistrust which I did not appreciate one bit. On the last night of my stay I was locked out around 23:00 because they had changed the pincode to enter the back door and I wasn't informed. When that's the case a staff member should stay awake to greet the guests to whom they may not have relayed this new information. Yours truly, The Cheese Bandit😂🧀
- Verified traveler (4/5): It was an experience I'd never had before - I didn't really expect much from a budget place but I certainly did not expect to have to endure the smell of something that was not tobacco coming in from a gap in the my bedroom window on the ground floor. I tried to get a member of staff of shut the window completely which appeared to be but I could tell that there was a gap somewhere because I could hear the traffic and I felt a draught. I also had to go to the toilet at the Trinity shopping centre in Leeds city centre to use their toilet a few times because the ones at Russell Scott had white powder on the floor and sink on a number of occasions. I didn't know what it was but the first time I saw it, I smelt something really quite toxic and it gave me a massive headache that felt like my brain was bleeding. I was only in there for a couple of seconds because as soon as I saw it I walked out again but in that time from that small exposure to whatever it was, it was enough to make me ill. Also when I checked out, there was no one there at reception to take my key. I had to take the key to university with me then drop it off later in the day and when I did, I was told I should have left it on the reception desk. What if someone took it? I would have to pay for it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Bed was clean and comfortable. Staff where friendly
- Anonymous (4/5): - A budget hostel lacking somewhat in cleanliness... Mismatched bedding, only one bed in the room was made up with bedsheets showing a yellowing duvet, cobwebs in the room where a crack in the glass of the window...
- Verified traveler (10/5): Ideal stopover in Leeds centre. - Welcome not so good, boy was on speakerphone talking foreign to a girl as he checked us in and did not show us around. Phil made up for that , v friendly and helpful.
Nice room and very clean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Friendly service, clean room and bed, comfortable and close to the city. For a basic stay after a night out this is fine! Bathroom areas could do with an overhaul.
