Fisk (10/5): We stay here at 2 or 3 times a year. I wouldn't consider staying any place else while in town. - George is an amazing person. The house keeping crew, also great! It is a quaint place in the middle of a German town. Great food and drinks within walking distance. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. It has an old world charm to it. When you vist this establishment, make sure to visit Bennie's Bar and Grill a couple of blocks down. Nothing.

Susan (8/5): - The Sherman is conveniently located within walking distance to a coffee shop, a bar/grill restaurant and some little shops. Free parking is just across the street. The friendly staff was efficient and welcoming. All guest rooms are on the second floor (staircase only, no elevator). This historic hotel has been upgraded for modern convenience. The rooms were clean and comfortable and quite cute. The bathroom had a beautiful walk-in shower. Note there is no in-room fridge or microwave so plan accordingly. The only reason I didn’t give this property a 5-star review was because it had no operating bar or restaurant. The facilities were there and quite dramatic. I was told the dining should be resumed soon. I can see how it might be difficult to run a fine dining restaurant in such a small town. Overall, I loved the quaintness and plan to return again to enjoy this fine hotel.

Sarah (10/5): - Our choices in hotels is usually hit and miss. Once we stepped inside, my husband and I were amazed by the architecture. The beautiful dark wood and the old smell was what intrigued me. The smell wasn't bad, it actually brought back great memories of my grandparents basement. They were rock hounds and had turned it into a shop to sell the items they made. The room was so comfy and inviting. The service was excellent! If you're looking for a great place to get away from life, this is it!

Beds are new and comfortable. I enjoyed meeting the owner and one of the partners and hearing about the history of the hotel.

Jim (10/5): Clean and classy! - The hotel is spotless and well maintained. I don't look for frills and luxury when choosing a hotel. Cleanliness and comfort are what I'm interested in. The Sherman in is a no frills hofel that was immaculate and well maintained. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There is no elevator and all guest rooms are on the second floir. This didn't affect our stay but would if you were disabled. Plenty of SAFE parking is available and convenient to the hotel. This was a very enjoyable stay!

elizabeth (10/5): Historic Sherman Inn on a Snowy December Day - Staying in the historic Sherman Inn in December was completely delightful, and a light snowfall this morning only added to the Christmas charm! Our room was sparkling clean, as was the bathroom. Simple, elegant decor, with wonderful black and white vintage photographs of Batesville throughout the inn. We enjoyed walking through the town, seeing all the beautiful old red brick architecture and twinkling lights.

However, the advertisement had shown restaurants and a beer garden there, and all of those had closed a while ago. In at some point, it was an amazing charming place feels like it is just about ready to close up.

Philip (8/5): If you want an experience and not just a bed to sleep in the Sherman and Batesville, Indiana is your place. - The Sherman is a quaint 150 year old hotel (remodeled) in downtown Batesville, Indiana. The staff was very friendly . We enjoyed our 2 day stay as we sampled several privately owned and recommended local restaurants. The only disappointment I would say was that the hotel’s ,well known and classic, restaurant was closed - reportedly due to a lack of a proper staff. There is no elevator to our second floor room, but we knew that when we made the booking

The people are friendly and helpful, and lovely to speak with. They gave us a history of the building and the area. The room was a little small. The shower was so small that I don't think a big person would fit in it. The air conditioner was so noisy that it kept us awake until we finally had to get up and shut it off. Fortunately, it was cool enough outside to sleep with the window open. No screen on the window, however.

Shaun (10/5): - We visited for a night for our anniversary. It was a great hotel, we enjoyed the architecture and the biergarten. From our room, you couldn't hear the band that was playing in the biergarten and it was nice and quiet (only noise was a few people in the street below after the bar closed, but we didn't find it too loud or disruptive) . Room had an updated bathroom and still kept many of the historic features. Staff were all very friendly, offered a grab and go breakfast, helped us set up the tv, and gave good food recommendations.

There was a slight misunderstanding with my reservation and the manager owned the problem and went out of his way to correct it to more than my satisfaction. Dawn (8/5): - Nice old building. Staff was very nice, when you seen them. No fault of the hotel but the construction was very loud. Was disappointed in the breakfast buffet being gone. They did provide a sack breakfast cereal bars. This was our 2nd visit.
Jennifer (9/5): Beautiful hotel in a quaint little town! - The location was great! We were able to walk to everything and really enjoyed the nearby pizza joint. We also had a great time in the bar. The live band was wonderful and we shot pool and darts for hours. We loved the fact that the hotel is so old! We also loved that the common areas weren’t updated but the rooms were. It’s a beautiful place! Beds are too firm, rooms aren’t sound proof. We could hear hallway noise.

Abdulghfar (8/5): Modern historic hotel worth to try 5 star clean - The place very very clean the housekeeper doing great job , as historic place its so good great shower and bedroom clean , i love it and the way moderise it everything brand new There should be bell to notify the staff instead of using phone and PARKING instead stopping at the main RD. No dine in ir grill restaurant around , the bar is Meh ... Basically drink and fun no Food food

Anne (8/5): - This is a quaint hotel in a small town. No elevator so carrying luggage upstairs could be difficult. The room was small but we were there for one night and it was not a problem. A longer stay it might be an issue.

Shelly (10/5): Exceptional - The Sherman was immaculate, which is a big deal for me. The staff was so sweet and very helpful. We stayed one night, going to Metamora on Saturday. We had an extra bonus as a live band, (Dooley and Justin) were performing outside on the patio. We would definitely stay here again. No elevator, but we were find with that. If someone was staying, that was confined to a wheelchair that could be a problem. They may have rooms on the ground floor, which I did not ask about. You could definitely check with them before hand. Other than no elevator, we loved our stay.

Sam (6/5): Meh - The hotel was ok. The front desk agent was extremely nice. Parking is across the street but somewhat close. Our room was situated over the dining room and the music was clearly heard in our room which made it difficult to sleep. We weren’t able to dine when we wanted due to staff shortage. Overall it’s one of those hotels that you need to experience the quirks to avoid them the next time. There is very little to do if your stay keeps you there on a Sunday.
Kerry (10/5): Like traveling in Europe - I have been missing my family in Germany but my visit to The Sherman House Inn made me feel like I was traveling through Europe again. The room was simple but immaculate down to the second floor windows. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We went for a couples weekend but can’t wait to share this gem with the rest of my family.
