Guest Reviews
- Tim (10/5): Excellent - The restaurant and food were excellent.
The rooms and staff were great.
- Roger (10/5): - Clean and very comfortable room with ensuite bathroom including both a bath and shower - much appreciated having walked 60+ miles. The restaurant is especially good, really professional attention to detail and superb food and wine. Nothing!
- Christine (4/5): - Nice and helpful staff. Went out of their way. Nice artwork everywhere. Nice atmosphere in restaurant and clear. A solutely NO communication between Booking.com and Llys Meddyg. Issue with impossibly uncomfortable bed was raised at time of booking 6 weeks earlier. Disappointment and backpain could have been avoided if my needs had been passed on from Booking contact for to hotel.
- Charlotte (7/5): Comfortable old hotel, made to feel very welcome. - Lovely building and location, very comfortable room, pretty restaurant. Evening meal in the cellar bar was pretty good but the vegetarian main course wasn’t as good as it could have been. Nice surroundings and a great wine list though.
- Sumana (10/5): - Wonderful food and service!
- Sigrun (10/5): - Sehr freundlicher Empfang, Interesse am Gast, guter Service
- Harm (6/5): Als je lekker van rommelig houdt, is dit je plek! - Het was rommelig en slordig. De plek maakte veel goed. De plek, vlakbij zee en adembenemend mooie baai, waar je heerlijk naar toe kom wandelen. Prachtig!
- Samuel (8/5): -
- alyson (10/5): Fabulous - Clean, beautiful furniture and beds Great breakfast , lovely staff
- lillian (5/5): - The breakfast and staff at breakfast was wonderful. The dinner and evening staff were not good. We paid $55 pounds for a fish we had to de-bone and the waiter had me get up from the table to pay my bill where he strongly (in front of other staff) "suggested" i pay an additional tip for the service. I was also told that they hadnt received payment even though booking.com sent confirmation that they were paid
- Powling (10/5): - Room 8 was a beautiful dog friendly room, spacious and modern - with a huge bed. Lovely breakfast, the homemade granola was exquisite.
- Lowri (9/5): Lovely, comfy, characterful stay - The room was absolutely lovely and a wonderful bathroom ensuite with free standing bath and a view of carn ingli. Lovely breakfast. Staff couldn't have done more or be more friendly to us. The stay was absolutely lovely. The evening meal didn't quite hit the standard I had thought (most of the meal was delicious but the meat wasn't cooked to order and was somewhat chewier/tough)
- George (8/5): Quirky but nice - Goodfood Nothing
- rachel (10/5): -
- Deana (10/5): Fab property lovely helpful staff food amazing if you are looking for somewhere to stay in Newport look no further - The rooms were lovely comfortable and clean very quiet you couldn’t ask for anything more Nothing
- Paul (10/5): - Clean comfortable great quality furnishings. All staff were helpful, friendly and thoughtful towards us and other guests. The food was exceptionally good, high quality ingredients, attractive presentation. Best I can do: Car parking spaces aren't marked so could be a little awkward.

- Mark (10/5): Great stay, beautiful town, lovely walks. - Beautifully decorated hotel. The rooms felt very special. We stayed at same time as family members and saw all the rooms, all were unique and gorgeous.
The lounge was a nice area to hang out as a group. Loved the cellar bar and breakfast was fabulous. All staff were attentive and friendly.

- Cara (10/5): A special place! - Cosy, clean and homely setting. You can really tell they have put so much effort into making the hotel, restaurant and bar the best it can be for guests. We had such a gorgeous stay and can’t thank the helpful, friendly staff enough.

- Rachael (10/5): -
- Warren (10/5): - Beautiful
- Walton (9/5): Brilliant, lovely, would definitely go again :) - Superb dining both evening and breakfast. Incredibly friendly and informed waiting staff and beautiful food. Bedroom incredibly comfortable, deep bath and lots of hot water.
The room was beautiful with well curated artwork throughout. Nothing I didnt like. However, if I were to be really fernickety I would suggest that all the dark painted walls get a good dusting! (always the downside to dark painted walls)
- Peter (9/5): -
- Emily (10/5): - Lovely warm welcome by Lizzy and a tour around the bar, lounges and restaurant. Very comfortable room and an impressive tea and coffee tray with fresh biscuits. We also had a free upgrade to a larger room. Exceptionally good breakfast as well The bath could have been a little cleaner but this wasn't a big issue as everything else in the bathroom and bedroom was spotless
- Michelle (10/5): An unexpected jewel! - Very accommodating to dogs, standard of food was a 10/10 we’ll definitely be coming back. Nothing at all
- Maddy (10/5): - Friendly staff, amazing food, gorgeous rooms, great location - you couldn’t ask for more Nothing
- Louise (10/5): We had a great time - All fantastic- maybe the weather!! It rained one evening!!
- William (10/5): -
- Alexandra (9/5): - The staff was phenomenal! We had to reschedule a bit and they made it possible without any hassle at all. Also the dinner was outstanding. Thanks a lot!
- John (9/5): -
- Hannah (7/5): A lovely stay in a great location, with a few small issues - Beautiful property and stunning secret garden restaurant.
Great location on the high street and a short walk to the nearby beach with food vans and members club - nice buzzing atmosphere in the evening!
Comfy beds and spacious rooms.
Dinner in the secret garden was delicious and really fun in outdoor tent pods!
Breakfast was also very tasty and generous portions. We enjoyed our stay, but for the price there were a few issues:
We specifically booked a ground floor room, but were unfortunately put in a different room without explanation.
One of the blinds was broken and had a mouldy lining.
The bathroom tap leaked and got our belongings wet.
Restaurant service was slow (30 minute wait for our drinks and no apology/compensation offered)
- Simon (8/5): -
- Alwena (7/5): Comfortable. - Very good breakfast. Not happy to have dog under table next to us tho’ well behaved. Lighting in the room.Dimmer switch erratic.
- Anonymous 62 (10/5): - Beautiful Nothing
- Scott (10/5): Fabulous room, exptional food! - The pictures of room 4, king bedroom do not do it justice it's much nicer than it looks. I would highly recommend this place, soft comfortable large bed, lots of space with a full couch. High ceilings in bedroom and full bathroom with a full hight cast iron tub with a view up the mts. The breakfast was outstanding 5 stars, best granola with fresh perfectly ripe fruit and honey. The best pancake with yogurt and blueberries ever! Exceptional high end cuisine here. We had dinner and it's a must if you are a foodie. The setting the service and food are as good as any big city fine dining.
- Donna (10/5): Highly recommended - Everything was excellent. A real surprise as the photos don’t do it justice. Staff were all exceptional. Nothing
- Janet (9/5): - I liked the room and bathroom. Hotel was well situated in the town.
- Steven Lampon (7/5): Very comfortable stay in possibly the nicest room in the hotel. - Breakfast was good. Service was attentive.
We ended up in a beautiful room in the main house with a large main bedroom, a dressing room area and a large very well appointed bathroom. There were big windows in both the bedroom and bathroom giving light and a feeling of space. We were first shown to a room in the annex (we had asked for a large double bed and this was the room with the largest bed). However, almost immediately on arrival, following a mishap by the guests above us, our bathroom became flooded.
We were relocated straight away by very competent staff to the beautiful room described above and had a great stay.
- miranda (9/5): - Wonderfully comfortable bed, great location, tasty breakfast A fan in bedroom would have been nice as quite warm
- Timothy (9/5): Comfortable night after a long week of walking. - Room and staff were great and the breakfast was lovely. Nothing, the accommodation lived up to our expectations.
- Lynne (9/5): Relaxed friendly hotel - Excellent location - 5 minute walk from the estuary and a lovely walk down to the Parrog. Lovely friendly helpful staff who moved us to another room as we had mobility problems…
Really good freshly cooked breakfast with lots of veggie choices as we don’t eat meat… 😄 Excellent dinner, great service
- Caren (10/5): A real find! Stunning small hotel! - Excellent location
Excellently furnished
Facilities are excellent
An excellent restaurant with magnificent food! Rooms were rather hot
- Heather (8/5): Good location for an overnight stay - Easy to find. Free parking. Great breakfast. Friendly staff. Be aware that rooms 6,7 and 8 are the dog rooms. We don’t have a dog, and would have preferred a non dog room, but you are not aware of that at the time of booking. Room 7, the bed is about 10 inches off the floor making it difficult to access if you are older.
- Kai (9/5): - Gelungene Kombination aus klassischem B&B und stylishem Ambiente. Hervorragendes à-la-carte-Frühstück!
- Thomas (8/5): - Brilliant location with parking and the staff were very friendly
- Annabelle (10/5): -
- Susan (7/5): We liked the friendly atmosphere, food and decoration. - Breakfast was great and substantial; the dining area is very attractive. We liked the art there and on the walls of the hotel and rooms. I stayed in room 3; this has a window facing the road and the hotel is next to the Golden Lion pub which has outdoor seating so it is very noisy between 12.30 am when the customers of the pub finally leave and the 6am when trucks start driving down the main road. There is no double glazing nor fan and in summer you need to have the window open. I think this is a particular problem for this room and even though it is cheaper than the others, that does not compensate for sleep deprivation. I was also surprised that you didn't provide good feather pillows for the bed.
- Rosie (3/5): Worth a dinner in the restaurant, but wouldn’t stay the night again. - Lovely house, food was incredible. Service was fab too. Absolutely filthy. Would’ve drove the 8 hours home the night we arrived if we weren’t so exhausted. Complained the next day and got moved to a better room, but even that wasn’t what I’d personally consider clean. Housekeeping really lets the place down.
- Mari (10/5): - We loved our room in Llys Meddyg. The staff were so nice. The outdoor area was excellent for our evening drinks, which we really enjoyed. The breakfast was amazing. Thank you.
- Mike (10/5): -
- Diane (1/5): Non existent communication - Very poor (non existent) communication experience. I booked this on the night by mistake (wrong Newport) and contacted the property within 15 minutes explaining my error and asking, very politely, if they would be prepared to cancel (I do understand their no cancellation policy however this was a genuine mistake, very quickly addressed and they are highly unlikely to have lost another booking within that time frame). They did not reply despite the fact we were due to arrive that night and obviously did not turn up. Nor did they reply to a second message yesterday. Extremely disappointing and unprofessional not even to receive an acknowledgment of my messages. Zero communication (see above)
- Thilo (8/5): Sehr schöne Unterkunft mit viel liebe fürs Detail, verwunschener Garten und sehr gutes Essen. -
- Anton (10/5): Can’t wait to go back - It was a wonderful stay. I cannot wait to go back. Thank you to everyone at Llys Meddyg for giving us a beautiful holiday.
- John (9/5): Bohemian country house vibes a short stroll from the coast - Bohemian design vibes and relaxed staff Food quality was good, but portion sizes are slightly on the smaller side for the prices charged
- Susanne (9/5): Guter Zwischenstopp Aufenthalt in verschlafenem Fischerdorf - Schönes Zimmer mit großem, eigenem Bad.
Toller Weg zum Strand.
- Stephen (2/5): Really disappointing - We paid for 2 rooms. One for us and one for another couple as a birthday present for them.
Despite paying the same for both rooms one was significantly smaller than the other with less facilities For example the larger room had a sofa and a fridge.
Also on arrival the bathroom was infested with ants including flying ants. Dead ants also littered the bedroom floor. We requested a new room but none were available. The kitchen manager was extremely helpful and found us a room at the pub next door which was OK but not what we came to Newport for. Hotel Management at the Llys Meddyg subsequently made no effort to check on how we were doing after the ant infestation and the move to a nearby hotel. A little bit of follow-up care and thought would have gone someway to mitigate this situation
- william (10/5): -
- gareth (10/5): very enjoyable - great breakfast ,great location friendly staff .
- Ad (7/5): comfortable but expected more for what you are charging - breakfast OK but not outstanding complimentary water and biscuits only on arrival.
Would have expected that on a daily basis for the rates you are charging
- Silke (10/5): -
- William (9/5): - Great breakfast, amazing bread.
Nice to have the option of a bath.
Comfortable bed. Parking was a bit tight.
Nobody on reception when we arrived. Woman on checkout barely got up from her breakfast too take out key.
- Eamon (10/5): Absolutely lovely, I highly recommend the Hotel. We will be back later in the year for a longer stay - The staff were lovely . The food was good and the Garden was incredible. Parking.
- Belinda (8/5): Relaxing and a real treat. - Beautiful room, enchanting garden, fantastic food, restaurant staff very helpful. Close to some gorgeous walks. The bed was really comfortable and we were left plenty of refreshments in our room, which we appreciated. The bathroom was really lovely but, like so many, the shower could benefit from a refreshing of the grout. A small thing but an unnecessary detraction from an otherwise beautiful and thoughtfully presented place
- elaine (10/5): Just what you need helpful people when you’re tired and you’ve walked 15 miles😁 - Very friendly and helpful staff . David, the waiter couldn’t do enough for us .receptionist when I arrived was so lovely too .
- Jordan (9/5): -
- Lorraine (10/5): Beautiful room and great staff and breakfast - Beautifully appointed rooms. Very friendly staff. Breakfast was fantastic. Would love to stay here again!
- Peter (9/5): -
- CATHERINE (10/5): -
- Gareth (9/5): -
- Mair (8/5): -
- Dean (8/5): Great location - an experience, fun. - This was an unusal hotel, an old doctors surgery. It was quaint and quirky, in a nice way. Staff were lovely and helpful. The location is perfect. Newport is a small town within walking distance to Parrog, the estuary for the River Nevern. Whilst the hotel is on the A487 the traffic through the town was quiet. Nice breakfast, good choice, freshly cooked. The fire alarm going off at 04:00 - It was activated in the unoccupied room 3, obvioulsy a ghost.
- PAUL (10/5): We loved it here. Highly recommended from us to another visitor. - Great location. Exquisite room. Fantastic fresh breakfast. Ample parking. No complaints!
- Wheaton (9/5): -
- Norma (9/5): Great short stay in really nice hotel - Wonderful room - really comfortable with gorgeous bathroom. Lovely breakfast. Nothing
- Alison (10/5): - Utterly beautiful and extremely comfortable hotel in a magical location!
- James (8/5): -
- Ilse (8/5): Pittoresk - Aangenaam ruime kamer nr 3 met alle faciliteiten. Ideaal om met een MTB een rit te starten. Badkamer, hoewel zeer mooi, is aan een opfrisbeurt toe.
- Mortimer (9/5): -
- Aleksandra (10/5): Very comfortable, well decorated throughout. Dog friendly room was perfect and the bed was so comfortable. Staff super f - Lovely building, great history and lovely bars and restaurants inside. Perfect little outdoor areas to have a chill
- Julie (8/5): the staff was very lovey with a great building along with a great restaurantl - the breakfast was so lovely staff were brillant we werent quite so sure about the bed it was very low
- Ami (9/5): -
- Kathrin (7/5): - Schöne Einrichtung, gemütlich. Man hört jedes Duschen, WC spülen im Haus.
- Trudy (9/5): - Cosy room, lovely big bathroom with quality products. Comfortable beds and pillows.
Staff were all fantastic- friendly, helpful and professional.
Food was a highlight - superb dinner and tasty breakfast. The House Granola was delicious.
Sadly unable to eat in Secret Garden because of torrential rain but the outside eating and bar area looks lovely and would be fantastic in good weather.
Will definitely be returning.
- Pete (10/5): -
- Laura (7/5): Short stay in Newport with friends - We came down for two nights.
The room was nice and quite quirky.
The breakfast was lovely and very tasty.
I think the rooms are a little overpriced and they perhaps could do with a new mattress in room 8- very squishy and not very comfortable.
The drinks in the bar were very overpriced- London prices and seemed a bit excessive, £24 for two double Kraken and diet cokes? We didn’t eat in the restaurant as we felt it was very, very expensive. Sorry.
The staff were lovely and the secret garden is gorgeous. We really did have a lovely stay just think it’s a little overpriced .
- Tom (10/5): -
- Endaf (10/5): -
- Hilco Zielman (8/5): -
- Susan (9/5): Excellent choice for the food and exploring the area - Great bar and restaurant Room quite small
- mike (10/5): Comfortable cosy withe lovely shower. - Lovely friendly staff. Clean comfortable room. Shower was fabulous. Slightly expensive. Maybe being picky but the radio was very loud at breakfast. Made conversation difficult.
