Guest Reviews
- Lisandra (10/5): Great place - Loved it felt like home away from home
- Luisa (4/5): - This property was smaller than it looked on pictures. Also; we couldn’t find the remote for the TV, the place didn’t have enough amenities for the week, and it didn’t look that clean. Overall, I wouldn’t stay here again.
- LK (10/5): - Excellent value for money. Right next to the subway stop. Very quiet. I’ll come back.
- Joe (4/5): - The location near a train and bus station that's good.
The hotel have no elevator in the first floor, u feel lost when u go up with stairs because there doors closed on every floor so u don't know hot to switch to other floor, no one on reception the whole days I stayed there, the towels no one change them from day to day, I used the same for 4 nights, I arrived to the room very thirsty there's even no small bottle of water...
- Paul (10/5): - Excellent service
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property was great, so close to the metro station, and had everything we needed. Walls are thin between rooms but not much noise from outside.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good apartment/hotel in a great location. Very close to the subway - on the same subway line as O'Hare airport and Downtown Chicago. Also serviced by a few buses as well. A 20 minute walk to a decent supermarket, and there's a pharmacy and decent pizza bar very close by.
The apartment itself was fine. Kitchen was well equipped, and we appreciated having a washing machine and drier in the room.
The couch was uncomfortable as well as broken (the bottom panel kept falling off when we sat on it), and the area around the bed was a bit cramped. Also, the fire station was just around the corner, so we often heard loud sirens all night.
Overall, though, good value for money, and we'd stay here again if we come back to Chicago.
- Khaled (2/5): - It's bad hotel
- Verified traveler (10/5): Hidden gem - Check in process easy, accommodation was perfect for our needs. We stayed in the studio suite which has full kitchen, washer/dryer, & closet. Quiet; no noise issues. Great location with El station right around the corner, Food, coffee, bars all within walking distance. Reasonably priced for everything you get when staying at this property.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location 1/2 block from the Blue line train, a CVS, a liquor store, pizza place, and a bar. Clean, spacious and modern for the price. Kitchen was stocked with plates, pans, cups, glasses, coffee and tea. Bed was a bit soft but still comfortable. There was a smell of cleaning supplies upon arrival but opening the windows cleared it out. TV was HD but a bit small. In room laundry is a huge plus. Heat and A/C were operational. Room was comfortable. Two minor flaws that didn't affect our stay were a small depression in the kitchen floor, and the vent in the bathroom was taped to the ceiling. Not really noticeable unless you're paying attention. As of Nov 2019 when we were there, there is construction going on in the area so it can be noisy. We weren't really in the room during the day so it didn't matter. I'd stay here again.
- Paul (10/5): Excellent room - Excellent room, clean and safe
- Annette (4/5): More negative than positive. - No staff on duty is not acceptable when the charges are the same for a fully staffed hotel in same area. We requested additional towels and were told no one would be available until 9:30 am and the towels were never brought to us. I paid for an hour late check out and got a phone call asking us why we had not yet checked out And had to point out that I had a receipt for the extra $25.00 for late check which is ridiculous also. Bathroom door did not shut all the way and the pull out bed was awful. To add insult to injury, asking guests to take out their own garbage when being charged an 80.00 clean up fee, is over the top insulting. The worst was finding less than a half till of toilet paper and no extra roll available.
- Remedios (10/5): Amazinf - It was really cool to be able to stay in a place that felt like a small home while I was across the country for business. I love the fact there’s a pizza place and a cvs and Dunkin’ Donuts all around walking range and it was closer to downtown than I expected
- Ryan (8/5): Good location and amenities - The place was conveniently located, well priced, clean, and had the necessary amenities for a good stay. I would recommend it for the traveler looking for a safe and affordable way to stay in a fun part of the city.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location. Clean, modern. I found it a bit eerie that there is no manager on site, the check-in and check-out are automated. But it all went smoothly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The location was excellent and the apartment had everything that you need, nice and clean
- Charles (8/5): - Overall my wife and I were happy with the stay. It had all the facilities and kitchen equipment that we needed for the stay. The bed was comfortable. The air conditioning was comfortable. And it was a clean unit.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The email that was sent to us gave us the code to get into the building and the room but it also said we had to self check-in in the lobby. We called the 24hr line and she was extremely confused when we asked her how we self check in because the ipads weren't working
The cleaning fee was $80 for the two nights we stayed. That's quite a bit of money. The bathroom wasn't clean when we showed up.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location was great and close to everything. Property and Room were very clean. Staff is very friendly.
- Jose (8/5): - Best location for the price!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Ginosi was a nightmare.
First, they cancelled our reservation 2 days before our stay. When I called to ask what happened, she said they didn't have my card's zip. I asked why they hadn't just contacted me instead of cancelling with no warning, & she just said that "fortunately for me", the room was still available. They rebooked me at a rate $40 higher than before.
When I arrived, I called for directions to the parking lot, as it's down a small alley & difficult to find. I was told I’d never reserved parking (I told them when booking that I needed a spot), but "fortunately for me" there was still a spot available. It came with an unexpected $30 charge.
I asked again for directions, & was placed on hold for over 10 minutes until she eventually hung up. I called back twice & nobody answered. She picked up the 3rd call & said she didn't know where the lot was, but someone would be calling me with that info, & blamed me for not leaving my line open. I told her I have two lines, so that made no sense, and she connected me to a third party. The third party gave me directions but, when I asked for a callback number in case I had any other questions, she told me OVER THE PHONE that she didn't have a phone number.
The next day, we walked into our room to find cleaners saying they thought we'd left, because our things were gone & check out was at 11. It was 10:30. So somebody went into our room while we were eating breakfast to see if our things were still there.
Don’t stay here.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great room size and cleanliness for the price, but is in a very noisy location!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good Choice - It was a little further from downtown than I expected but it wasn’t a bad uber ride away from downtown! Literally around the corner from metro. Also CVS, Liquor Store, and pizza spot are steps away for essentials. Easy to access apartment with code/self check in. The room was clean with everything thing we needed. Bathroom and kitchen were nice! Really liked the appliances. I would recommend to others and would stay again if needed!
- Shan (10/5): - I love the room because it has everything I need especially the washing and dryer machine and the big new refrigerator! Everything is perfect for one people! Only the room size is too small and if I cook the smell will stay for a long time.
- Zulfa (10/5): Amazing - Amazing experience , for sure book it again if I’m on the earea
- Andrew (6/5): - Payment confirmation is outside Hotels.com and is processed outside the US. It's inconvenient and customer service is a bit surly.
Rooms are nice and location is great.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Thin walls, you could hear everyone do anything at all times
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was very clean and the property has a great lokation. Taff was helpful and the rooms contained all you need for cooking meals and washing clothes. The apartments held very high standard.
- juan (8/5): - If your expecting staff to greet you, maid service and amenities you will be disappointed. What you get is a great efficiency apartment around the corner from the train station or a 2 mile walk to the city center. Not may options for food near by. Occasional sirens form the fire station next door.
Very clean, modern decor, good location.
- KarenE (10/5): - ½ block from train strop Chicago
Noisy if you aren’t used to outside car noise like we have in NY. I WAS IN 307. Maybe ask to be away from the highway ramp.
Easy checkin
Good communication model
Suggestions would be to 1) rotate clean towels in longer stays and 2) get better pillows. Too hard and high and not comfortable.
- NorySettineri (2/5): - They charged an $80 service fee in addition to the room rate and taxes. This was not advertised. When I arrived to check in, they were not ready, it was early, but they said they could accommodate me. when I left to get coffee, I got a call from their company in LA, this was when I was made aware of the obscene service fee of $80, she asked if I wanted to cancel the reservation, I said no. When I went to check in 1 minute later, she had canceled my reservation. In trying to rebook me, they forced me to show them my citibank app, telling me it was company policy to send a charge under two dollars to a clients phone on check in to make sure that it was good. We watched at the front desk an 81 cent charge come in and out while the Russian lady who canceled my booking kept saying it wasn't theirs. They then made me call my bank. It was the worst hotel check in in my life- I eventually asked them to cancel it. There is something fishy at this hotel, they didn't even have a credit card swiper. Expedia needs to do a better job vetting these places. This does not happen with Hotels
Tonight
- Marco (2/5): For sure not for business travelling - Everything about this place was a joke, military bed that fit a child and not an adult. Check in process was silly especially if you are travelling late.
- Dave (4/5): - Excited about our weekend in the city, we found our Genosi Apartel room to have all the romance of the bedroom next to my parent's bedroom. The attention to minimalist design and cleanliness gives it the charm of staying in an airport bathroom. People who love popping bubble wrap will enjoy hearing cracks and pops with every step across the vinyl flooring. The personal touches of kiosk check in, blank white walls, and top end Walmart-quality furniture give the Apartel in the overall atmosphere of an H.H. Holmes property.
- Jesse (8/5): Enjoyed our stay - The location was clean and spacious, staff was helpful, it was great to have full sized appliances
- Audie (8/5): - Accommodations were perfect for a single person two night stay. Everything was clean, comfy and minimally furnished (that's a good thing).
- Scott (10/5): NICE CHILL OUT SPOT FOR THE WEEKEND - Wonderful clean place close to everything
- John (8/5): - Cool studio apartment in a decent section of town. Would stay at again.
- Sid (8/5): - Nice theme. Clean. friendly staff, Clear instructions. Location is good along blue line.
No coffee filters on first morning, so couldn't use coffee machine.
BEWARE: the nightly rate is misleading as there's a $40/night apartment service fee that isn't included in Expedia's advertised rate.
- Kendra (10/5): Great stay - We stayed here for two nights while in Chicago celebrating our anniversary. The location was perfect, only a block away from the L blue line. We took the Megabus into town, then were able to walk to the metro, buy a 3 day pass, and made it to the hotel quickly. We had access to everything we wanted to while in Chicago and were able to make it back to our room easily. There are a few restaurants around the hotel. Pie-eyed pizza pizzeria is around the corner and was pretty good for a late night bite. We stayed in a studio queen apt. It was perfect for what we needed. There was a CVS nearby and we bought some drinks and things to snack on. A longer stay and we probably would've used the kitchen more as there was everything we would have needed to cook and eat in the room. I think the only complaint we had was there could've been "black out" curtains in the room. There were a lot of windows in our room, which was great during the day and provided a lot of natural light, but also woke us up pretty early in the mornings. The staff was great during check in and check out. They were able to lock up and hold our baggage the day we left as our bus home wasn't until 6pm, so that was really helpful. I wasn't expecting the lobby to be staffed because of other reviews and the check in instructions we received, so it was a pleasant surprise to have someone there if we had needed anything. We would definitely stay at Ginosi 747 during another trip to Chicago.
- Michael (10/5): - Very nice place for what i was needing. It is small but the price was right.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Clean apartments in a good neighborhood - Clean apartments in a good neighborhood. Blue line stop is right around the corner. Hot water wasn't working one morning, but thankfully it came back on within 10 minutes. I would happily stay here again.
Beware of the $80 cleaning fee per stay that wasn't clear until after I made my booking.
Hotels.com said that the price includes taxes and fees, but they're only referring to hotel.com's fees and not the extra hotel cleaning fee. It was still the cheapest room available last minute in Chicago.
- Jennifer (4/5): If you're over 30, I wouldn't recommend it. - I could not stay here for the entire duration of my trip because it felt like I was living in an adult college dorm with the sterile conditions of jail or a hostel. It was LOUD and facing the freeway. I couldn't sleep through the night due to the noise and paper thin walls. The bed was terribly uncomfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a great little apartment in a great neighborhood with plenty to do do close.
- Helen (8/5): Well-equipped and good value - I spent a minimal amount of time actually in the room, so can't comment on things like noise in the building or neighborhood. The room (basic studio) was fine for my needs--as others have noted, the pillows were really hard, but everything else was comfortable and seemed clean. I didn't use a lot of the amenities such as the kitchen and washer/dryer, but they would have been very useful if I'd spent more time in the room. (The refrigerator was a full-size fridge/freezer.) The neighborhood had a lot of good restaurants close by, plus a CVS, and I had no difficulty getting an Uber when I went out. Overall, nothing fancy, but comfortable and good value.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Not the best experience but not the worst. The walls are very thin so you can hear literally everything from outside your room. Cleanliness was okay but I feel like it lacked maintenance.
- john (2/5): No Hot Water For 4 Days - It pains me to write this as I love the concept and location of the property. We had no hot water during the 4 day stay. We let management know right away. They were minimally concerned and did not get us working hot water or move us to a room with hot water. They offered a $50 discount for the hassle and acted like they were doing us a favor.
- Roberto (6/5): A lot of unpleasant surprises - My stay was plagued with small unpleasant surprises.
The first was the total charge in my credit card. I was charged an additional $80 "service and cleaning fee" that was not quoted in hotels.com final price.
The second was the room's lack of light: it had only a small window facing a shaft, so I didn't have any natural light.
The third was the bed: it was terribly small and narrow (less than a twin). I am a short guy and my feet reached beyond the mattress.
The fourth was the room layout: the TV was mounted on the wall, 5 ft above the floor, but placed literally next to where the bed is (near my head), so it was impossible to watch TV while lying in bed.
The fifth was the cleaning (or lack thereof). When I came back the first day I found my room exactly as I had left it. When I asked the front desk why was this I was explained that their "concept" is that guests would clean themselves, pretty much as if they'd be staying at their own place. When I asked the reason for the $80 "cleaning fee" I was being charged but wasn't used for cleaning, I was told that that fee was for cleaning after I left (?!).
Overall the location was good, the room was OK (not considering the small details I mention above) and the people were friendly. However, these small surprises ruined the experience. I would not recommend it.
- William (8/5): Great Staff and clean - The staff is great! Eddie, Jessica, Maurice and Essence all are doing a fantastic job and are an asset to Ginosi. As an airline employee, the aviation theme is familiar and welcoming.
The only downgrade would be for making your guests more prominently aware of the $80 per stay ‘Apartment service fee’.
I was not made aware of it on my Hotels.com confirmation.... it wasn’t until my Ginosi confirmation that it was displayed. Good value otherwise but difficult to book due to limited rooms here.
- phebe (10/5): Chicago business traveler says it is excellent - Amazing
- Renee (8/5): Nice Hotel, Staff? - I booked the trip on Hotels.com and was amazed at the pics and price. However, I realized I needed a bigger bed. I called and was upgraded to a bigger bed over the phone with the same room type, no problem. However, upon check in this was not the case. When speaking with someone at the front desk, though, they did upgrade the bed again with no problem. What happened at check out was a different story. I have since been getting calls to pay for the upgrade of the bed after returning home. Since this was a business trip I didn't pay for it and now I am being harassed about a bed that was complimentarily upgraded, twice. The hotel is awesome, but this is absurd. How is a person of larger size expected to fit into a twin bed? I mean come on....you must be kidding me if you expect me to pay for $300+ for something that you gifted me twice. Ridiculous!
