Guest Reviews
- Robert (1/5): -
- Guest (1/5): Horrified, dirty and unsafe - This room was not what I paid for. I requested and booked a room for 3. A queen bed and single and recieved a different room with only one bed. The TV was taken off the wall and there was none. There was no toilet paper or towels or utensils. There was old moldy food in microwave and the toilet had not been cleaned in what looked like 10 years. I felt disgusting and dirty standing in the room and they did not give continental breakfast. The office is constantly closed, the restaurant does not exists Everything
- Vavao (1/5): Wouldn’t stay here again - Nothing We went there at 4.30pm way ahead of time for it to be closed. And they said there were not enough rooms after we had already paid for the room 5 days before, totally unprofessional
- Melanie (1/5): This is a 1 Star location at best. Would not recommend - There is nothing to like about this Accom. As soon as I walked into reception I knew I had booked wrong but changing locations for 5 nights booked was not possible anywhere else I booked a tidy studio unit and ended up in a 2 bedroom unit with mold on the window sills, stained floors, bathroom that needs repairs and a kitchen I did not want to use. Questionable comings and goings in units next door. No heating in lounge when arrived and was advised they would be there in 15mins. 1 hour later had to call again. TV didn’t work and was advised this would be fixed the next day. They never showed up or answered anymore calls. Reception never open
- Rayahnn Ashley (5/5): -
- TONY (10/5): -
- Michael (10/5): - Very convenient to check in early.
- Sabina (2/5): -
- maria medeia (1/5): - I was at the hotel for 2 nights, paid at the hotel reception! and now the booking is looking to charge me a fee, which is not cool! saying I wasn't there!
- Mike (7/5): - Reasonably clean and comfortable. Needed warmer blanket at night and limited cutlery, no knives!
- Carolina (1/5): Short and never again - Nothing Was the most disgusting shower I ever seen, we also heard domestic violence in the perimeter on the room next to our and we didn’t spend the night as was not feeling safe in there
- asantha (7/5): -
- Guest (5/5): -
- Burrell (7/5): Good -
- Natasha (4/5): Disappointing - We booked in for The Coachman's, but there was no space when we arrived, so we were put up in their other motel. The location was better. When the staff were available, they were very helpful. Hot water pressure and temperature was good. Omg. Well. When I told my relatives where we were staying, they all put their hands up to their mouths. I asked why. This motel has a VERY bad name with the locals because of affiliations with crime related activities. When we arrived, there was no one in the lobby, which was filthy and reminded me of a broken down, abandoned motel from the telly. Someone came down eventually, and this is when he said there were no rooms available, giving us the option of going to their other motel closer to town. The new option was an upgrade, which was generous. But, the power in the new place kept shorting out, leaving us with no heating at times. The man at the lobby said it kept cutting out because we were using too much power!! We're talking about winter time in Invercargill - freezing! The wifi kept cutting out also, the room hadn't been vacuumed and was dirty. As it was winter, and every other place we've stayed in south of Timaru provides electric blankets, this place had no electric blankets, 'providing' the thinnest of duvets and no extra bedding. This, with heaters that kept cutting out, I 'invested' in a massive fleece jumper to sleep in to keep warm. So, I shall not be staying with them again. No WAY!
- rendomorph (2/5): Avoid - Our group witnessed; a police raid, a domestic incident, suspected drug use and repeated visits to young women by a range of older men! Part of the site has emergency accommodation which we not warned about.
Not somewhere to take children or possibly adults either!
- Sean (2/5): The first 2 images does not reflect the motel. Stay elsewhere - Nothing. It is run down and horrible. They need to close the motel and give every room and reception a makeover. Everything. The permanent tenants tops the list though!
- Graeme (3/5): Poor - Undergoing major renovation with only a few rooms open.
- Jaydean (8/5): Very good -
- D1 (1/5): Shit - Not clean room was not xleaned The room
- Mclelland (1/5): What a shit hole - Place was filthy, other people's clothes, missing dial on cooker, one portable heater in lounge because wall mounted one didn't work, bedroom's freezing but the mice seemed happy
- Anonymous (8/5): It was comfortable. Very obliging man in Reception. - We made our own breakfast.
Location was good for us to visit our friend’s grave. Not too far to go anywhere in Invercargill.. One 3-point plug for heater needs repair.
New washer needs to be fitted into cold tap at kitchen sink.
- Griffiths (1/5): Bathroom door has no handles as door only had a hole where handle should have been. - Didn't have breakfast and it wasn't offered Communication was poor. Room was not as shown in photos. Booking was made for 3 adults with 3 single beds. One double was provided only two towels. Kitchen had only one coffee mug and one glass. We arrived after mid night and office was closed and reception was not helpful the next morning. Booking. Com should not represent this property
- Mark (1/5): Never again - Nothing Everything was so dirty
- Corey (1/5): would not recommend - not very clean, it was too noisy with other residents (who i think live there???) holes in the wall and the heater didnt work and had fallen off the wall and sitting on the floor. old soap stuck to the wall in the shower that housekeeping either missed or didnt care to remove.
- Sharleyne (3/5): Disappointing. Looked better on line than in person. - The staff were friendly. Good location. Cleanliness of the entire complex starting at the reception and maintanence. Toilet needed replacing, door handle missing, no shower curtain, power point to fix, extra bedding just thrown in the closet. Room smelled smoky. Lack of cutlery only spoons and a potatoe peeler, not enough of the right plates and glasses, yep that first photo is the toilet.
- Treza (8/5): Very good - Cost of room.. I called to gain some assistance to work the Television...
Said they were seeing to another issue and would come and see.
No one arrived...
- Andrew (4/5): Disappointing -
- Tim (4/5): Meh. It was ok - Location It was dirty. Pillows were worn out. No tv. Dirty carpets. Shower was filthy.
- Thian (6/5): Pleasant - Close to shops To much traffic going past
- Nathan (1/5): Do not stay here... - Photos were nothing like the accommodation. The place hadn't been cleaned. There was a dirty nappy under the bed. There was hair all over the floors. The kitchen tap leaked constantly. There was mould in both the bathroom and kitchen floor/ceiling. The bed was hard and uncomfy. I checked out after the first night of no sleep and found somewhere else to stay. In the middle of getting a refund now. Very disappointed. And the place should have 1 star not 3+
- Stephen (6/5): Pleasant -
- KathyHines001 (2/5): Avoid! - Emergency housing- dirty, smelly & noisy. Some guy was digging around the rubbish bins in the carpark early in the morning. Do not stay at this place. The reception guy knocked on the door before letting us in so was obviously half expecting someone to be inside- I shouldve read earlier reviews & run for the hills instead.
- Tanner (10/5): Exceptional - Good size, perfect location for concert at the stadium
- Colleen (2/5): - We booked a one bedroom unit because we had our grand-daughter with us, and we got a Studio Unit - 1 queen bed and 1 single bed. There was no staff available all weekend.
The place looked nothing like the photos. We had people knocking on the windows at night!
It was advertised that there would be a toaster - NO toaster!
It was advertised that there would be daily housekeeping- NO housekeeping!!
There were 3 of us and our unit had - 2 pillows, 2 mugs, NO glasses, 2 side plates, some cutlery and NOTHING else!! Couldn’t even have toast, or a bowl of cereal for breakfast.
No tea, sugar, coffee sachets, Dishwashing liquid container was empty.
For the money we paid for three nights - extremely poor value for money.
Expedia should remove this property from their Expedia platform. It’s not even minimal standard.
- Shelley (5/5): Passable - Staff were great for a late check in. There was a truck stuck in the drive of the motel at 1am till 2pm. Driving back and forward with beepers and reving noises. Should have been let till the morning
- Kirsty (2/5): Disastrous - Dont go there!
- Maureen (2/5): - No wifi, no cups, no microwave, no mattress protectors, no aircon, glasses dirty, no tea towels or dish washing liquid. Found the tea and coffee caddie in bathroom drawer. Carpet dirty, no extra blanket on request . Refused first room they offered and ended up with a room much worse.
The walls and shower glass lots of scum marks and food - prawn legs and noodles on floor in toilet.
This place needs to be avoided. DISGUSTING.
- Stacey (1/5): Bad - On arrival room hadn't been vacuumed. Side tables were filthy. Smelled of cigarette smoke, heating didn't work. Bathroom, toilet and kitchen were not clean. And a dripping tap. And a bread pizza bun left in the microwave!! Gross.
Contacted reception as no TV on wall and told it would be sorted it never was. And after returning to room after midnight smoke alarm was going off, not sure for how long? And beeped continuously through the night going off another 3 times!
Was cheap accommodation, but cleanliness needs urgent attention.
- Estee (4/5): Not pleasing. - It had most amenities. The long term tenants were very loud. Rooms weren't very tidy, there was a very rude lady down stairs, don't know weather she owner or was a tenant. Definitely won't be staying again.
- Jason (1/5): I walked into my room and 2 minutes later I was walking out to another hotel in town. - The receptionist was friendly and helpful Location. Room was an icebox. Very unclean. Rubbish on floor and cigarette ash on side dresser and floor.
- Leslie (8/5): Very good -
- Ree (1/5): Wouldn’t stay there again or recommend!! - Location that’s all. Very very disappointing nothing at all like the website shows, the bed was terrible the water pressure was not there at all. No Tv channels. The couch was too low and not very clean at all.
- Uele (3/5): Poor - Should have a
- soap or body wash
-something to wash the dishes
-iron
-microwave
-2 chairs
-smell was not good
- Petet (2/5): Our accommodation was nothing like what was depicted on the photos. This is a 1 star at best - Nothing Overall condition was extremely poor
- Barrie (8/5): Very good - The convenience of being close to other amenties No bedside lamps (not a big dislike tho)
- Lyndon (9/5): Superb - Tidy warm comfortable polite people excellent around Communications
- Zane (8/5): Good and cosy - Well priced good spacious room Nothing
- Shay (1/5): Terrible, avoid at all costs! - The absolute worst place I have ever stayed
- Arlene (6/5): Pleasant -
- Johannes (5/5): Passable - Its ok
- Jill (2/5): Very poor -
- hogseven7 (4/5): Please don't stay here - Well we will not be back. We were there eighteen months ago and we love it. That's why we went back. When we arrived greeted friendly wanted to pay by eftpos was not working left my credit card details was not told there was a surcharge. Being a pensioner you count your penny's. Went to our room could no get in was unlocked for us and that a locksmith would be there with in half an hour that did not happen. Tv did not work no batteries in the controls. No tea towels or soap for a shower. I think it's quite sub standard. Oh no cups for a tea or coffee.
- Mandy (1/5): Disappointed - No house keeping at all, very limited with towels, and kitchen utensils.
Very old and run down.
Cannot recommend for any age group
- Priscilla (2/5): Be warned - this place should be avoided at all costs! - Host was very helpful, but there were so many things wrong with this place. Only nice thing I have to say is that the place is getting a make-over, but it seriously, it needs more than a make-over. We had read the reviews and were hesitant, but with minimal accommodation options, we reluctantly booked into The Coachmans, Invercargill. Unfortunately, every lousy review proved true – and then some.
From the moment we arrived, the place felt dirty and unkempt. Although some of the rooms have been renovated and painted, essential supplies were still missing. The exterior looked run down, and things only got worse from there. Inside the room, the smell was unbearable – a horrible mix of stale tobacco, curry, and fresh paint. It was so overpowering I couldn’t sleep. The room was missing basic essentials, and one of the beds had blood on the sheets. We had to request a linen change, which is just unacceptable.
The motel is located next to emergency housing, and we were greeted with a Mongrel Mob hand signal by a nearby resident. Locals even warned us to be careful of fighting, and to watch our vehicles and belongings. We did not feel safe at any point during our stay, onguard all night, so didn't sleep well.
The worst part? We later found out the motel is known locally as a "brothel" – with random men knocking on the wrong doors at all hours of the night, clearly looking for someone.
For what we paid, the experience was absolutely atrocious. I genuinely don’t know how this place is still allowed to operate. It should be investigated – and definitely avoided. Wish I had taken the bad reviews seriously.
- Ben (6/5): Pleasant -
- Peta (2/5): Very poor - What breakfast? No Bedside light, no heater, no hair dryer, no shampoo and the shower was filthy.
- Katelyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (1/5): CAME BACK TO FIND SOME ONE ELSE IN OUR UNIT AND ALL OUR PROPERTY THROWN INTO A SHED NOT HAPPY -
- Lisa (1/5): Not up to par at all - Mouse in the first room I was put in and was moved to a new 1 where the fridge didn't work, no microwave so couldn't heat food up, no cups to make coffee in or glasses to drink water out of, not vacuumed. Have asked for 1 nights payment back as a refund for substandard conditions and am now being ghosted.
- Bryn (3/5): An uncomfortable experience, I felt I was in the wrong place and not completely safe. - Bed was comfortable, and the sheets clean and fresh. The facility was lacking in some basics. There was no soap or shampoo in the shower. No facecloths provided. There was tea and coffee provided, and a jug, but no cups to drink it out of. The lock on the door was faulty, and it was hard to lock when I left the room. I was not sure I was going to be able to open it when I came back. I did manage to open it, but had to force the key to turn in the lock. The reception was locked when I arrived in the afternoon, and I had to phone, and then wait for someone to come and show me my room, even though it was the middle of the afternoon. The place is shabby, and from the outside looks derelict. The motel is used for emergency housing, and the place reflects this. There is very little attempt to make the place look attractive and welcoming.
- Stuart (1/5): Bad -
- Harry (3/5): Poor - Staff helpful. Unit spacious. Rooms and bathroom good except kitchen. Hotel California, if you want an experience this is it. Partly used for emergency housing. Outside very shabby. Some equipment missing from kitchen which staff supplied. Tap ran constantly. No plug or dining table. Kitchen needed major renovation. etc etc.
- Kylie (1/5): Yuck! - The bed had clean sheets The place was disgusting, everything was dirty the carpet had bad stains! It felt very unsafe! Had people that live there and abusive warning signs spray painted on a door the outside had rubbish and over grown bushes and weeds everywhere it was beyond a joke that such a place existed we slept for a few hours then left! It was cold and only had 1 thin blanket with no spare option and only a quater of a roll of toilet paper with also no spares available! Does not match the photos provided at all!
- Ian (3/5): You get what you pay for. Price was cheap. Facilities are cheap. - Bed was comfy. Price was reasonable. Room was shabby. Wasn't very clean. Fridge barely worked. Everything was very 'basic'
- Will (3/5): Not sure how booking.com gives this place 4.1 stars, 2 is more appropriate. - I read all the reviews so knew what I was letting myself in for, had little choice sadly.
It’s as bad as the reviews, make sure you take what you need, soap, plates cutlery tea coffee etc, if there is anything supplied it is the cheapest and watered down.
Staff is good (only one) but overwhelmed probably underpaid and undertrained, and will lie to your face.
Looks like someone spent a few dollars then ran out of money and is now trying to get as much out of the place as cheaply as possible.
- Robin (4/5): A little disappointing - Bed was nice and comfortable Overall condition of unit was pretty rough. Whilst the bed was comfy and I slept well, I probably wouldn't stay there again unless it had been given a major upgrade. Lights didn't work, no coat hangers, didn't feel very clean, toilet was disgusting.
- Damien (1/5): Worst Motel in Invercargill - DO NOT BOOK - Absolutely nothing. Quite possibly the most disgusting motel I have ever stayed in. Literal dump! From the piles of rubbish and construction waste out front. Seems like a construction project that started but has never been finished.
No reception to check in, had to phone up a number and be directed to where the room was, despite arriving within the open hours.
Room stunk of smoke.
Fridge didn't work.
Graffiti on the front of the fridge and microwave.
Filthy carpet.
Luckily the bed sheets were clean.
Access to the room was via a back alley up stairs so appeared and felt dangerous at night time.
Noisy, unsettling for solo traveler.
Definitely evidence of emergency housing with in complex with several undesirable people hanging around.
Didn't feel safe leaving anything in the room so took my suitcase in the car each day while out and about in Invercargil.
Definitely do not stay here.
I should have read the reviews before booking rather than assuming it'd be the same as 15years ago when I last stayed here. Absolute drop in quality.
And to top off was overcharged! Secret credit card fees!
Avoid at all costs!
Such a shame given it's convenient location to Stadium Southland.
- Kaaren (1/5): A terrible experience - Nothing. Absolutely DISGUSTING. Filthy. Unhygienic. Kitchen had no light bulb. A stack of rubbish at the back of the fridge. Didn't eat or shower - too disgusting.
No Reception (either arrival/departure).
- Lain (2/5): - Disgusting accommodation. By far the dirtiest place I’ve ever stayed. Very old run down and dirty.
- Maureen (4/5): Disappointing -
- Deborah (1/5): 🤬 - Place is filthy Cancelled booking
- Ashley (1/5): Bad -
- Trevor (1/5): No words - Avoid This Place – Extremely Uncomfortable Experience
I would not recommend staying at Coachmans. Not kiwi owned nor operated for a start. From the moment we arrived, we felt extremely uncomfortable. The man who greeted us made inappropriate comments towards my 11-year-old daughter and tried to lure her outside by saying he had a cat in his car. This was incredibly unsettling.
The motel itself was filthy and disgusting,The sheets looked stained and secondhand, bearly any carpet, mold for miles, stunk like an old bar, furniture was broken being held up by books, heater didn't go, mouse poo in the kitchen and even the oven, no cutlery, there were silverfish in the beds, and we even saw cockroaches—something I didn’t think existed in Invercargill. The overall hygiene was unacceptable, We ended up finding another accommodation provider instead.
This Motel needs to be taken down off booking.com or even better petrol and a flame.
- Neville (1/5): Stay somewhere else - Place under construction ..heating did not work, no bedside lights. No soap. No chairs, no toaster, fridge did not work. Complained about lack of amenities but was not rectified. Night time temperature 4 degrees so not a good stay!
- Alonso (1/5): Disappointing - Location Dirty kitchen, floors, bathroom and toilet, the only clean thing were the bed sheets.
- Jet34671258238 (2/5): Don't Stay, GROSS - Gross, Do not stay here. Absolutely disgusting!!! Nothing was cleaned prior to us staying, carpet was tread bare, curtains ripped, stove was disgusting, cable ties for the oven handle, fridge smelt so bad, shower was not cleaned. I wasn't quick enough to get a picture of the mouse. This place should have no stars!!!!!
- Craig (1/5): Bad - When we arrived I couldn't find anyone when I rang the number on the door I was shown to a smelly slept in bed in a 2 room I refused to stay there with my family there was rubbish lying around ripped closed curtains on the ground floor we then were offered a 2 bedroom at another property which was great but only 4 beds was supplied a mattress bedding this experience ruined a family celebration and I won't be recommending as now is a winz motel and not a public motel
- Nicky (2/5): Very poor -
- Harry (5/5): Ok. Alittle below standard - Quite location.. great Chinese fast food across the road. The area and presentation of the place.. looks run down and old.. and untidy
- Mario (8/5): Very good - Easy access and quiet, staff were polite. Didn't really find anything i didn't like would stay again.
- Phillip (1/5): Bad - Nothing The unit we stayed in was appallingly substandard. It looked like it had been stripped. No cutlery crockery, pots, teatowells, table. Tap running continuously in kitchen. Not clean. Knotted duvet for shower curtain. Knows missing off cupboards and drawers. I adequate bedding. Reception was locked - just a phone number. Proprietor said no other available as they were fully booked, but the one below us was empty Facility is dirty and dilapidated. Should be removed from your books as unfit to hire.
- Sally (2/5): - It smelt like a P lab.
Discusting, I would rather sleep in car.\
we did not stay!!
- Kristina (1/5): Terrible, do not stay here - Nothing. Witnessed a drug deal in the car park. People screaming out in the car park at 3am. Room smelt of smoke, bed smelt of urine.
There is no customer service - they just pretend they can’t understand you.
They don’t answer phone calls or emails.
- Chevy (1/5): Bad - Nothing The whole facility.
This place is setup for emergency housing and therefore should remain only available for this role. This facility should not be advertised or be able to be booked by the general public.
- Jim (5/5): Passable - Run down, poorly maintained. Room numbering vague. Torn curtains.
- Tammy (1/5): Bad - Location Dirty everything
Beds falling apart
Smelt like cat urine
Noisey
- Bill (1/5): Dreadful, if booking. Com allows properties like this to be listed, I will seriously consider continuing to use them, I - It was dreadful,no light in the kitchen, bathroom door was held shut with an old piece of rag , the beds were well and truly past their use by date the place looked like a run down property from a place in the third world
Doors had been kicked in also the walls had holes from someone kicking it in
The floors were sticky from not being cleaned properly……awful experience,by far the worse I’ve ever experienced Everything
- Germon (3/5): It was an experience I won't forget and not in a good way. - Check in was fast and easy. Location was central and convenient. The bathroom needed repairs. The kitchen sink was broken. The laundry was unusable and disgusting. The double bed had collapsed and was sitting uneven and the whole place smelled like cigarette smoke and hadn't even been vacuumed.
- Glenda (3/5): Disgusting - Location was ok Toaster not working. Light in kitchen not working.only 1 toilet roll. Shelves on kitchen cabinet dirty. No face cloth. Shower mat for tea towel. Old dried up vomit leading out from doorway.
- Jemimah (2/5): Very poor - Dirty, stuff left behind by previous guests, a fridge located adjacent to the toilet (??), very old and run down. I stayed one night and then checked out and went elsewhere!
- Jim (4/5): - The propieters are only interested in milking the place for all it's worth, it should be a prime site but nothing is being spent on it
- Richard (4/5): Barely adequate, poor value - Very basic, no table, tv, shower curtain, crockery, cookware, rubbish bin
- Troy (4/5): Disappointing -
- Timothy (1/5): Yuk - Awful Everything
- Vaughan (1/5): Bad - I ended up staying in other accommodation as I did not feel safe staying at this place.
- David (1/5): Very disgusting - Rubbish every where rooms outdated and 0unclean .staff were noisy in mornigs spos to stay 5days only stayed 2 .very disapointing place I didnt like anything its horrile will never stay there again
- John (1/5): Bad -
- Marise (1/5): Don't stay - Nothing. Rundown place, looks like it's used for emergency housing did not feel safe.
Reception not manned, couldn't understand Indian on phone.
We walked away and lost our money we paid.
- Linda (3/5): Room never serviced, poor acces to room which was through reception which was always closed therefore had to walk throug - Nothing Parking, house keeping, location in surrounding area, access to room
