- David (6/5): - The picturesque views from outside is brilliant and breth taking . The Hotel looks great from outside with it's stone walls etc but is need of an update inside . The rooms are big but some cupboard doors need fixing and the shower leaked. It was clean with a impressive menu but the food isn't good . Breakfast was cold and the toaster didn't work most of the time. You do need to look for a clean plate ,bowl or cups . If you ask for a tea tell them to only put one tea bag in it as it's strong . If you stay on the first floor you will be woken up at 7 am by the kitchen radio or kept awake at night with the restaurant music coming though the floor . The spa is great . The staff are brilliant and look after you. The pool is ok but the changing rooms are small . The gym was impressive and you can get a cuppa from the reception. The Hotel is well placed as there's a steam engine , boats on lake and a motor museum right next to it . There is a pub called the Angler's arms within 2 mins car or 10 mins walk which has brilliant home cooked food with a good cask ale selection. The team is great as well. . All in all it's a great base to stay and wonder around the lakes .
- Martin (8/5): - The hotel is in a great location and very picturesque. The staff were very friendly. The buffet beakfast could have been a bit better although okay in general. The whole place is very dated though and could do with brightening up as it has a lot of dark funishings and needs a lot of TLC. Our room was clean but again the furnishings where very dated with handles missing and scratched. The matress on the bed had a stain on it and it was and old matress with metal springs so crunched when you moved. The changing rooms in the spa was very small with little room and again very dated and could be a lot better. Overall not a disaster stay but for the price i paid i would'nt return again.

- Susan (10/5): - Spacious, comfortable room situated close to an event we were attending (5-10 minute drive). Room well equipped - brewing facilities are always a big bonus! Breakfast buffet was well stocked and had a good choice of items - some more visible guidance near the toaster would be helpful for those unfamiliar with the make and how it works. The only stressful aspect of the stay was lack of parking space letter on the Saturday evening - unsure where we were allowed to 'overflow' to. Overall pleasant stay, suited our needs and would return again
- Andrea (6/5): Needs a bit of TLC both in decor and attitude!! - This place gave us the impression of being a bit run down and lacking in care and a bit stingy with extras ( I packet of biscuits in the room, I loo roll, broken toaster in breakfast room, no menu to say you could have extras like poached eggs, no condiments on tables at breakfast , bar tables not cleaned or lights on the the eating area and crumbs on the chairs! )We ate in the bar twice and both times the food was fine but you really shouldn’t have to clean your own table and chairs, turn on lights etc should you?!?! I used the pool which was nice and nicely accessible for me however the changing room floor was treacherous as it was soaking wet. There needs to be more awareness that this isn’t a place that’s suitable for people with mobility issues. Both the restaurant and the bar had steps to access them. We thought initially the receptionist wasn’t very welcoming as we stood for quite a while waiting to check in while she was talking to staff members and she gave no acknowledgment that we were waiting, not a great first impression. The room and corridors seemed dated and dark and our room had an odd smell however it was clean ( apart from stains on the carpet) and comfortable.

- Carrie (10/5): - The restaurant was excellent although the service was slow as there was no Maitre d' at the door to welcome and we had to wait quite a few minutes to be seated. However, the waiter cleared a table for us efficiently upon request. The setting was perfect for our outdoor weekend: rapidly flowing river outside our window and lovely views into the valley. The room was comfortable and spacious fitting myself, my husband and grown son adequately.

Arrived mid breakfast time fruit was finished except for prunes. Ran out of common brands of whisky. I don't know if there is a manager but was unsighted whilst we were there.

- Julie (8/5): - The history of the hotel and the area, is very interesting as well as the Haverthwaite railway and close to the motor museum, both well worth a visit. The hotel itself although a little dated was charming. The staff were friendly and obliging but there may be more of them needed for busier times. The food was very good breakfast and evening meals delicious and a lunchtime sandwich also delicious.

Only thing that would have been nice is to have a bar fridge in our room. The intended space was there for it, but it wasn’t there.

- Alison (6/5): Amazing building, but inside let it down. - I absolutely can not fault the staff. They were all lovely, attentive and would do anything to help. However, the facilities are dated. Beautiful building, but the room wasn’t the cleanest. There was crumbs on the windowsill, hairs in the bath so I had to wash the bath out before my family could use it after swimming and the bedding kept coming off the bottom of the bed during the night. It was a warm room too, even with the window open and the heating down (201) At breakfast nearly all the plates were dirty with food residue on it and my husband was a bit concerned as he has an allergy to gluten. The swimming pool was cold, the facilities were dated with tiles chipped off in places and on the outside of the hot tub. If this beautiful building had some money spent on it it would make an amazing stay. The view out or room was lovely - see attached. But I wouldn’t rush back, not really worth the price we paid.

- Andrew (6/5): - The hotel is in an historic building in a very pretty spot, but the conversion was done a long time ago and it's looking tired, but it's clean. The staff are nice too, and it is good value. I've only two negatives, breakfast does not begin until 8am which meant I got a late start to my day, the other niggle was loud music playing in the restaurant. That alone is enough to put me off going back.

The pool is fab, as was the steam room. The food was nice. On the whole a very relaxing stay, with good staff to help you. The hotel is perhaps a little dated but still perfectly lovely for a relaxing stay in the lakes.

- Nathan (10/5): Beautiful, charming hotel, pleasantly suprised! - Such a pleasant suprise, a beautiful hotel with clean rooms. Slightly dated but in condition. Gorgeous views and very friendly staff. There is also a lovely spa. Within a good distance from Lake windemere, ambleside and bowness walks (about 30 minutes). This is a beautiful and well priced spot for the south lake district exploring, highly recommend!

- Sylvia (6/5): Disappointed - First impressions was a disheveled man at the desk complaining we were too early to check in. A lovely young lady came and checked us in no problem. The executive room overlooking the river was lovely although it needs a little updating. On closer inspection the room and bathroom needed a bit more cleaning. The lift wasn’t working which wasn’t really a problem for us. We went to the spa to be told the steam room and jacuzzi weren’t working, thought ok went in the pool it was absolutely freezing. Lay on the sun beds to warm up and the windows you couldn’t see out of them they were that dirty. A lovely view from there if you could see out we paid a lot of money for this experience so very disappointed The rest of the staff were lovely and the the food was lovely
- Claire (8/5): Great 1 night getaway - We had a lovely stay at the Whitewater hotel. All the staff were very friendly. We stayed for 1 night with our 3 month old baby and was given a really spacious room on the ground floor with a travel cot. We did stay for dinner at the hotel. The starter was a bit disappointing and when the waiter asked why we hadn't finished it he took it off the bill. The lamb and the steak was lovely. Breakfast was also nice. The hotel is very outdated but if you can see past that it's in a lovely location and has good facilities with the pool.
- Steve (6/5): - We booked a double room which ended up being on the lower ground floor, was dark and a bit musty. Not enough plug sockets and very dated (had a trouser press). The staff were either non-existent or doing multiple jobs so they weren't able to concentrate on any of them, consequently the service was pretty poor. Attention to detail was missing everywhere, dirty cutlery and cups on a few occasions. The restaurant was ok, staff were nice but seemed like they were always extremely busy even when it was quiet. Reception and main bar staff were mostly not present, you had to ring a bell which either made someone appear or didn't. The area around the hotel is lovely but I wouldn't recommend staying here

Staff were welcoming and accommodating and our evening meal and breakfast was great. The free facilities of the pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi at the leisure complex were an added bonus, although the beautiful view was hindered by the windows which needed cleaning. An easy fix! Overall, a lovely stay and great value for money.

- Verified traveler (6/5): Fair, needs updating and pricey - Disappointing to find that the spa was shut for our stay, and the main reason for selecting this hotel. Drink a bit pricey averaging £7.10 for beers and £9.70 for small wine. Rooms were vary large but dated with stained bedding pillows and sheets, although this is not to say they hadn't been cleaned. Plenty of cobwebs but that didn't really concern me.

- William (2/5): Worst ever... - Well we had booked in for ⁵ nights, and left after 3. So disappointed..we wanted a relaxing break before the Xmas rush, and we were so stressed. Room was freezing and filthy. Bathroom was good but dirty. Breakfast was good then first day, and by the 2nd, it was terrible...I mean burnt beans! The food at dinner was good, but very pricey for ³ stars. While your eating all you can see is dirty and cobwebs everywhere and ripped seats. The music had us crying in our soup....come on how depressing is Julio at dinner. Staff were great and friendly. Outside was pitch black at night out the front. It's described as disabled friendly, but I use a stick and had to go down stairs to get to gym and restaurant. And some effort on the Xmas decks would have been nice.....what a waste. Have never left a hotel early. Spa staff had no interest....steam room was great. Pool was below freezing, and changing rooms were filthy.

Breakfast was lovely, evening meal first night was really nice, the 2nd night wasn't as good, was told it was a different chef Sunday. The spa was very nice, used the sauna and steam room, the Jacuzzi and the pool. In fact the spa was really Christmasy but the hotel was rather poor with the Christmas decorations, overall I would definitely stay again.

Beautiful views of the river leading to Windermere but you can’t really travel anywhere on foot from the hotel as it leads directly from a 70mph dual carriageway. Hotel interiors are worn and dated, but clean overall.

- robert (10/5): - The staff were very helpful, and the spa/gym was good for us though somewhat dated. THe only negative was with the evening meal on 3oth October. The lamb and Tapas were really good but the vegetables served with the lamb were inedible. They had been cooked but were like sticks, couldnt even cut them with a knife. The next tables had the same issue. Really strange. We should have calle the chef to explain but we felt we didnt want any fuss.

It's like a motel from the 90s Room was freezing when I got in at 9:30pm Went to bed at 10am after a long day only to hear the major A road zoom by every few minutes. Next day went for breakfast. It was very sparse of choice. No pastries during my time there toaster did not toast and staff simply rude. Now the pool area. Simply dated and undying scum. Spend two minutes in the cold pool and left. In daylight the noisy room was like the pool area. Still waiting for a call from the manger, who was to busy to speak with me at checkout.

- chris (10/5): Great short break - The hotel is great our room was exceptional 304. The staff are courteous. The access to the health club is a real bonus. Only thing that did not feel quite right for us was the breakfast. It felt disjointed, not presented well ie the bread only brown and white sliced just dumped in a pile. Cold plates for a luke warm "hot breakfast" all in all nothing wrong but needs someone to give it an overview.

- Neil (8/5): Relaxing 2 night break - Hotel was clean, warm and welcoming. We booked it for two nights to basically relax using the spa and leisure facilities and it certainly ticked that box. The only negative was that the menu was very limited when it came to vegetarian options an example being a quinoa salad as the only main meal choice in the restaurant.

- Alan (2/5): Shocking service in leisure centre - We stayed here from 1 - 3 October 2024. On Tuesday my wife went into the leisure centre and booked and paid for a small amount of facial treetment. She was given a time of 9.30 the next day (wednesday). When the Wednesday timr arrived she went to have her treatment only to be told it could not be done because the lad who served her had forgotten to mention and also forgotten to arrange a patch test which had to be done. This is appauling service, how can a member of staff forget what seems like a fundamental requirement. My wife was bitterley disappointed that this could not be done for her. When we checked out of the hotel the next daywe mentioned this episode to the member of staff on reception who took notes and told us the manager would contact us by email or phone but this of course has not happened. We would definitely rate this place as shockingly poor and hope that when people read our future social media reviews that people will think twice about coming here.
