Guest Reviews
- Georgia (9/5): Lovely! Would highly recommend - Cute little guest house. Typical Charleston style house. Perfect location for French quarter near everything but down a quiet street. Bedroom was perfect and breakfast was lovely. Room was quite light in the mornings, wasn’t a problem for us but might be for others.
- David (7/5): - Charming place. Room pretty and comfortable Wish breakfast was served versus grab and go and more gluten free options.
- Villette (8/5): -
- Kathleen (9/5): -
- Mary Ellen (10/5): If my future plans ever bring me back this way, this is where I will be staying! - This was such a quaint little place. With its 5-6 (?) rooms it is much more personal that staying at a large hotel. The staff were extremely nice. We were able to drop our luggage off prior to check in and parking. Parking is a little bit of an issue but not horrible. Don’t drive your big truck/SUV if you have a smaller option. Those parking garages are tight! The lobby is lovely and pretty well appointed for your continental breakfast. (Hot/cold beverages, oatmeal, pastries, egg bites, yogurt) There is an alcove prior to entering the room that offers coffee/tea/water. The room was incredibly cozy with great bed/pillow/linens; also with a mini fridge, bottle opener, water, and cookies. The bathroom has updates that include a nice rain head shower. Check in is 2:00pm. Check out is 11:00am. The location is amazing!!! Once you get to the corner, and look left, you see the Market. If my future plans ever bring me back this way, this is where I will be staying! The parking isn’t ideal, but this is Charleston and to be expected. There are several options close by. Two open air lots on the same block as the hotel, perfect if you’re in a large vehicle, but higher in price. The least expensive is about 4 blocks away, and a very tight fit parking garage.
- Ann (8/5): Old but charming - Cute, southern room close to good activities and food. Small- prob only 4 rooms. Right next to smelly horse stables but close to carriage tours! Narrow stairs.
- Nicola (10/5): Beautiful and unique and close to everything in old town Charleston - Very cute little inn with unique and pretty decorations. Walking distance to everything, and parking very close by. Staff was wonderful and super helpful! We liked everything, just be aware that all but one bedroom will be upstairs, requiring climbing a narrow staircase. But if that’s not a problem, then this location will be perfect.
- James (10/5): - Excellent location and friendly helpful staff. Will stay there again Thanks again
- Donald (10/5): Great little place to stay and located close to everything! - Location, comfortable bed, friendly owner/staff¿ It was nice, quiet, and easy to sleep in! The neighbors are horses but they were nice too.
- Stephen (8/5): Very pleasant. - Location was great and bijou is a great description A little more run down than expected and the shared lounge breakfast area didn’t work well for us. Bed was not as comfortable as hoped for - too soft and the plastic mattress cover made the sheet slippy.
- Jessica (10/5): -
- Chloe (10/5): -
- Raffaella (9/5): -
- Matthew (10/5): Amazing time, would definitely stay here again - The location in the was great, walking distance to shops, restaurants in the French Quarter. The room was clean and the bed was really comfortable. Nice little breakfast in the morning. No parking on the property. Only metered parking on the street. Or several nearby parking lots charging between $20-30 a day.
- Matteo (10/5): -
- Charlotte (9/5): -
- david (9/5): Very enjoyable - Excellent location Very old and well kept
- Chloe (5/5): Great location but quite basic. - The location was great. Walking distance to everything you need. It was a little run down/worn out. The bedding and towels were clean but the housekeeping could have been a little better. The breakfast also wasn’t quite as described and seemed to be left out over night.
- Daniel (8/5): - The hotel is located in a great spot, very close to everything in the downtown historic area. The AC situation in the room was not the best, I understand it’s an old building but… all in all it is a good place for the price.
- Robert (10/5): - Beautiful place and great location A little pricey
- Patricia (10/5): - Everything was lovely.
- robert (10/5): - Na
- Anna-Lena (9/5): -
- Lori (8/5): - Great stay!
- McKenzie (9/5): -
- Thomas (10/5): - Parking is terrible
- Kerry (9/5): Very enjoyable stay at a small boutique hotel. Staff were polite and accommodating. Room was clean and neat. - Close to everything, cozy Room was very small but that is typical for an older inn. No onsite parking
- John (10/5): - Place is awesome!
- Larry (10/5): Charleston Favorite - Excellent location! Room one of the best in years. Staff, great, they even called .e back when request! Great, easy little breakfaast set up. Will be there again on next return!
- Gerlinde (9/5): - Es ist ein wunderbares kleines "Haus", was als Hotel geführt wird. Lage super. Sehr gut geschlafen.
- Kelly (10/5): Best of both worlds, so lovely and so comfortable. - Everything about our stay was so easy and convenient. There was information provided on all needed with parking to arrival to departure. It was the best of both worlds from the historic feel and perfect downtown location, while still having all the comforts like great heating and cooling, a fridge and coffee maker. We didn’t take advantage of the breakfast offered but the variety was vast and I can’t overstate how the owners seem to have just thought of everything you might need while you’re there which I was honestly not expecting from such a small property, making it perfect! We have no complaints!
- Stephanie (10/5): - Loved the beautiful room and the friendly and helpful staff.
- Stegall (10/5): Bijou is a JEWEL!! - Wonderful staff! Excellent location! Beautiful house and room! Laura was absolutely precious to visit with! If I'm ever back in Charleston, I WILL be staying here again! The only thing I can think of is there is a, somewhat, strong 'old house' smell that's a bit unpleasant when I first arrived. HOWEVER, you get used to it and the beauty and cleanliness of the place more than makes up for it!
- Jacey (8/5): It was a very interesting place very clean for the most part I would definitely recommend staying here as long as you do - I liked that it was very close to the center of Charleston and could walk around easy It was very old which adds to the Charleston charm but I found it difficult to get get things in and out of the room due to the cramped size of the stairs
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Amelie (10/5): So charming, perfect location! - Excellent location! Charming old Charleston house converted to boutique hotel and it was perfect! The only complaint was hearing other guests but no one was up late or too loud. The city was also surprisingly peaceful and quiet at night. I was there for business but would stay here on a romantic or friends weekend for sure!
- Cheryl (6/5): Cozy and comfortable but overpriced - Good communication Very small room, bathroom and seemed overpriced
- Joe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carin (10/5): - Very quaint and beautifully kept. Room was cozy, tasteful and comfortable. Location near everything in the old city and walkable. Highly recommended!
- Cynthia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carolyn (9/5): Loved it! Wish we had been able to stay longer! - Very charming small hotel. Centrally located within easy walking distance to many historical places. Although there is an open parking lot across the street, it was not recommended so we parked in the recommended garage a few blocks away. It was farther from the hotel than we expected- we should have dropped off our luggage at the hotel before parking.
- Wendy (8/5): Great location - It was a great location and comfortable. Great breakfast options including House made quiche. muffins and bread. The only thing I didn't like was the rain head shower fixture. I have very thick hair and the rinsing took forever, but I know lots of people like those.
- Cindy (8/5): Very good -
- Fred (9/5): Very cute bed and breakfast in a great location. - The location was within walking distance to activities, shops and restaurants. The chairs in the room were uncomfortable for sitting, reading etc
- Jordan (10/5): - We loved our stay at Bijou! The room was clean and the service was amazing. Overall, the location was good. It was close to king street, market street and many good bars and restaurants. Our only problem was the inn was in between two horse tour barns so outside the inn smelled bad from the horses. However, there was no smell inside the room or the lobby. Overall amazing stay and we would come back.
- Harry (3/5): Terrible don’t stay there. Very expensive for what you get - Breakfast was mediocre at best. Facilities were run down. We travel a lot over the world. I can honestly say this is the second worst hotel we have stayed in over the past 40 years. The only thing good was the location
- Mary (10/5): New found gem - Great place! So close to the center of town. Everyone was so friendly! We will be back, loved it!
- Mark (7/5): Quiet and simple - Quiet place with no staff around and a put together your own breakfast. More of an AirBNB than an actual inn
- Shaurya (10/5): - Hidden gem
- Cindy (3/5): Poor - Location. Room clean. Bed comfortable We couldn’t get the heat to work in the room so it was very cold. Also guests in room above very loud until 3am
- Johnson-weiner (7/5): A convenient place to stay. - Breakfast was very good, the location is excellent. We only saw the owner/manager briefly when we dropped off luggage, but she was very friendly. The bed, while very picturesque, was very high off the ground and difficult to get into.
- Lela (10/5): The Bijou is the best hidden gem I've ever found! - The location could not have been better! There was an adorable breakfast in the lobby every morning. Our room was spotless. Housekeeping came every day and kept us fully stocked on towels and washrags. Every single staff member we encountered was fantastic! I didn't like how I was going to have to share about how amazing the Bijou was. I want to gatekeep so bad!
- Sam (10/5): - Great place with close proximity to historic district
- Ihsan (8/5): Very good - Nicely decorated room
Basic but good breakfast
(mostly sweet options, no cheese, ham or eggs) Room on its own, entrance from outside porch. When we were there it was fairly cold, you could feel the wind blowing in from the doors
- Richard (10/5): Who needs an elevator…walk a little people.. - Totally quaint and comfortable. Clean, with a cozy fireplace and great bed!
- Robert (5/5): We wouldn’t recommend. - Location was great Big let down from website photos. Mediocre breakfast in a cramped room. Exposed extension cords all over. Unfortunately, we had cool weather causing drafts though out are room.
- Gregg (9/5): Superb -
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional - Great bed, linens, food, location and hospitality. The parking was off site but nearby and reasonably priced.
- Roger (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (10/5): - So charming and comfy. Just what we were looking for.
- Lynch (10/5): A place to remember - Historical feel and a right at home feeling.
- Brian (9/5): Superb -
- Courtney (10/5): - Comfiest bed ever so cute and right near everything perfect location
- Yordas (9/5): Superb - The inn was lovely and very helpful. Excellent room quality, service, location and noise levels. Food was good to average.
- Kristen (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful, comfortable, and covenient location.
- Lisa (10/5): I would definitely recommend the Bijou Boutique Inn. - The friendliness of the staff. The really comfortable bed. The fireplace and air conditioner. The weather swung from warm to cool we used air the first 2 nights and the fireplace the next 2. The fire alarm went off in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. it was no one's fault. Just one of those things. But it was quickly taken care of by the staff.
- Wendy (8/5): It was our first visit to Charleston and we enjoyed what we could see and do in 1 1/2 days! - The Inn's cozy main room is comfortable like Grandma's house is! The bedroom was spacious with a king-size bed and a gas fireplace for cooler evenings. Only one sitting chair in there and it was not set up to watch TV at all. Not conducive to setting up your computer either. The clloset space was good for a longer stay.
The Breakfast room is also cozy, clean and comfortable. Could be awkwardly crowded when another couple came in at the same time because the table kind of crowded the space for getting your food.
But when coming in '2 X 2' it was fine.
Muffins and quiche were tasty and did what 'continental breakfast' is supposed to do! Coffee & Tea selections and condiments were all good, trying to touch everyone's preferences. Walking several blocks to park in a garage and then retreive the car for sight seeing..,
but you can unload and load up just outside the Inn's entry with your luggage. There are open parking lots closer by but we preferred the security of the garage.
- Lloyd (7/5): Good - Location Shared coffee maker, small tv & dark room
- Joseph (6/5): Pleasant -
- Shannon (10/5): - The inn is adorable and quaint. It’s an old Charleston single. But if you have trouble with stairs, you wouldn’t want to book the upper rooms. The staircase is narrow and steep.
Also it’s not the most quiet as it’s situated in a busy area, but no worries, just use the white noise machine they provide or bring your own personal fan like we did.
- J (7/5): Good - Very friendly staff, warm welcoming atmosphere and very pleasant room. Nice feeling of family and open access to snacks and coffee.
- Jamille (8/5): Very good -
- Lara (9/5): Lovely, quiet Inn in Charleston old town. - Beautiful Inn located in the heart of the old quarter in Charleston. Quiet area. Lovely clean room, with large bathroom. Easy walking distance from the old market, restaurants, etc. Bed was a bit soft for our taste.
- Kristi (10/5): - The absolute best part about this hotel was the location. Everything is within walking distance but still a nice quiet location . Steps from horse carriages, the market, sightseeing , shopping and dining. The hotel had character and everything you could want. Great breakfast with homemade banana and lemon blueberry loaf as well as cereals, yogurt, croissants, coffee, tea, etc. The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed and bedding I’ve ever experienced. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommended.
- Gerald (8/5): - Loved our stay!
- Ruth (8/5): Hotel Bijou - We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Bijou. It was close to walkable destinations. Our bed wasn’t very comfortable but the delicious breakfast made it a great stop.
- Vivian (8/5): Very good -
- Jarrells (8/5): Comfortable and accessible to downtown - The room was decorated really nicely and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. it was also very quiet and peacful. The steps were steep and narrow. Also the bed was VERY high. So if you are short or not very flexible, it could be an issue getting into/out of bed. The air conditioner filter was VERY dirty so we rinsed it out.
- Stephani (10/5): - .
- khalil (8/5): - Soft bed,
Clean and cozy
Food is available 24/7
- Ann (5/5): Nice charming room, but there's some street noise, no one is there able to help, & parking's a scam. - The room was nice, and the location was good for walking places. It was a real old Charleston house with charm. I had the Magnolia, the front room, and during the night there were some loud people on the street. Other rooms would have probably been okay. Nightmare parking. Don't park across the street at the Anson and Pinckney lot. Not only is it ridiculously expensive, but they messed up and towed my car. I had paid for three nights and when I got up to leave before 8:00 on the day of my departure, my car was gone. No one was at the inn to help. I had to Uber to a police impound lot manned by a lady wearing an ankle bracelet behind bullet-proof iron bars blocking even most of the window through which you pay. You use a slot. It was in the most horrible area--my Uber driver stayed with me she was so scared for me, so she didn't leave until she was sure I got out of there okay. Needless to say this experience pretty much ruined the trip for me. I have since been told I was scammed. Now I'm having to go through the legal hassle of getting my towing, parking storage, and parking fees back, but no one can reimburse me for a terrible experience when it should have been wonderful.
- Naoya (10/5): - Property has a very homey feel to it. This place has a very cozy feel. Parking wasn't bad. It's unfortunate that there isn't a place to park on the premises but it was manageable. The lot that is about 2 blocks away is reasonable but it is an extra cost to those who stay here. It was a very hot day checking in so the room was a tad warm. The AC works, it just tastes it a bit to get nice and cool. It is an old house so I don't believe it's insulated very well. It was a nice place to stay for a night or two.
- Tracy (10/5): Didnt want to leave, gorgeous rooms, very comfortable beds and everything we needed and more. - Fantastic Location
- Cornelia (10/5): Wonderful! - So quaint! Right in heart of historic district. Awesome staff. Ashley was terrific! Narrow stairs but to be expected since it’s an historic inn.
- William (10/5): Exceptional - Peaceful quiet and beautiful. With a fantastic location. Our new favorite place to stay in Charleston
- Charles (9/5): Especially enjoyable was that the inn was centered amongst the horse & carriage facilities! - The breakfast was somewhat limited for a B&B in our experience, but it was tasty. The room was very nice and attractively furnished. The overall facility was pleasant and quiet. I really enjoyed the sound of horse hoofbeats on the street (regardless of the hour).
- Jennifer (8/5): Southern Charm With Great Location - The location of this inn was EXCELLENT! It was within 10 minutes walking distance from the areas major attractions- City Market (around the corner), Carriage Tours (next door), King Street, and Rainbow Row. Plus, tons of local restaurants. (Cru Cafe-right across the street, yummy!)The area beach (Folly Beach)was also accessible by Uber (30 minutes). The inn has a lot of charm that you would expect in Charleston but requires a little TLC. The cleanliness was okay. The bathroom could have been cleaner, but the "living area" was nice, and the bed was super comfortable. The"breakfast" was not appealing.
- Nicholas (10/5): Great place and wonderful location - My wife and I stayed for a couple of nights and loved the place. Accommodations were great, the house was old with a lot of charm, and we were introduced to Penny, the owners dog who was a pleasure to meet. Would highly recommend Bijou to anyone visiting Charleston.
- Buudronovich (5/5): Passable -
- Richard (7/5): Good - No real breakfast. Parking was very expensive.
- Margaret (8/5): - Charming and comfortable, except for problems with the heating unit. It cut off in the middle of the night and we couldn’t get the remote to work to get it back on.
- Peggy (8/5): - This is a very old building and we really loved the location. Everything we wanted to do was very walkable. The property is having some repairs done to the stairs up to the second floor which was good to see. The cleanliness of the tile and fixtures in the bath could use a bit more tlc.
Loved the big tester bed and mattress was very comfortable.
- BOYD (10/5): Perfect for what it is. - Has a nice, old school B&B feel. If you're looking for a nice room in a nice location, this place is great. If you're a nitpicker who needs a pool/spa/gym/lounge you likely weren't going to use but would complain about the absence of anyways, spare yourself the high blood pressure and this very nice spot any undeserved negative press.
- Ellie (8/5): Location, location, location! - Very accommodating. Old, unique home with all the best parts of downtown Charleston right outside your door.
- monte (10/5): - Property was close to everything, staff was very amicable to our request .
- Jennifer (9/5): Would love to stay again - Everything it was so cosy and lovely The WiFi would not work
- Jo (10/5): Great location and loved the idea of staying in a true Charleston home. - All the little details (drinks outside the room, water in the room) and the ambiance of our room. The emails were very detailed and it was nice to get a personal phone call before we arrived. We wanted to unload luggage then park the car. It would have been nice to know we could pull off the street onto the drive way on the side of the house instead of waiting for cars to move to park for a short time before taking the luggage from the car. Would have been helpful to state P3 was the Cumberland Garage since there are several public parking places on Cumberland.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place to stay for a quick weekend away, the room was adorable and the bed was very comfy! We would definitely stay again. Also very kind and friendly staff
- Suzanne (10/5): Quaint Inn - We loved this place. Excellent staff, very clean, wonderful location. Loved the gas fireplace! Wished they had directions on how to use the 2 tv remotes. Never did figure that out. We never asked for help either, so that’s on us. The house is very old and quaint. I give it such a high review because the mattress was soooo comfy and those sheets…. I have never slept on sheets of this quality before….wow. What a lovely stay we had!
