Guest Reviews
- Jason (6/5): Value was ok. For location. Beds and pillows not worth the price we paid - Beds and pillows are not good Beds and pillows not good
- Jeanette (9/5): Comfortable, quiet, plenty of parking, workout room. Close to good restaurants. - Quiet, more than adequate rooms. Swimming pool was closed
- Reel (10/5): -
- Tim (8/5): It was very nice. - The Breakfast was great, well stocked. The Pool was under construction and was not told about it until we arrived.
- Bernard (9/5): Thank you:) - In darkness, we couldn't figure out why our GPS kept prompting a U turn--- finally I called the motel & the kind gentleman stayed on the phone to guide us to the motel. Apparently, the U turn prompts were due to the meridian (so no left turn into the parking lot). The room heater is very noisy! At 4:30 am, I turned the temperature down 5 degrees but it still came on.
- Nitcher (9/5): -
- Denise (9/5): - Breakfast was excellent. Location was perfect. We went to Adventureland and only took a matter of minutes to reach hotel We had 6 kids with us and the pool was closed. Web sight said it would reopen on July 5th. This was the 6th. We were able to walk across parking lot to super 8 and use their pool since it was same management.
- Rebecca (4/5): - The location 1. The pool was closed
2. They never cleaned the room or provided new towels
3. The breakfast was sub par and the coffee was bad
- Saige (4/5): better places for a bit more money - staff was very nice mold in room. hotel smelled like wet dog
- Richard (8/5): - Close to Prarie Meadows for Horse Racing.
- Abby (6/5): Great location and hotel but sketchy people outside. - Our room was beautiful Your pool was under renovation. Which I’m hoping was considered in the price of our booking because we had booked this hotel for the pool. Maybe advertise that it’s down??
- Jerry (10/5): -
- Deborah (8/5): - Good
- Pamela (10/5): Altoona hotel - Nice hotel in altoona
- Sid (8/5): -
- Michele (10/5): - Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We had however woke up late but still before the stop time for breakfast and went down and ate with being done at 0905 but the gal who was apparently supposed to be off at 0900 was a bit rude and slamming things around but we had not gotten in until after 0200 so we needed to sleep at sometime. The food however was excellent just didn’t appreciate the attitude by that particular employee. Everything else was excellent—5 stars other than this great place and was a great stay. I would recommend this hotel to friends
- Gerald (10/5): - Front desk staff friendly.
- Jeff (7/5): - Location was great for our trip to horse races. Breakfast was good. Didn't like the cost increase just because the fair was going on.
- David (4/5): Couldn't wait to get up and out of this place. - The location. The room smelled absolutely terrible
- Danielle (9/5): - The hospitality and comfortability. The cleanliness could have been better. My room to check into was not cleaned and the beds were undone. The staff did great to make it right. Bummed the pool was closed for renovations. But I would absolutely stay again.
- Amanda (8/5): - It was good for a night and the breakfast was good.
- Andrew (10/5): - good location to casino. close to highway. nice staff
- Tiffany (4/5): - This property is very poor. The pool isn’t working, the treadmill broke, the staff was unfriendly, one of our beds was broken. Not a nice hotel.
- Michael (4/5): - I didn't like that the pool was out of service. They sent me to the Super 8 to swim. If I had wanted to swim at the Super 8 pool I would have booked our stay there and saved $50.
- Steven (8/5): - Clean and great staff.
- Mark (8/5): - Fair option to staying at Prairie Meadows Casino - for the price. Food option ate decent.
- Mary (8/5): - Was a great place to stay. Room was very clean, but the room was a little small.
- Jessica (10/5): - One night stay passing through town. Hotel was clean and the room was just right. We’ve stayed here before and will definitely stay again when passing through.
- Desiree (4/5): - When I arrived I was informed that I had an hour wait time for my already late check in because they only had 1 housekeeper. I wasn’t accommodated for my inconvenience either. The lock on my room was janky and the key card on most of the doors was visibly broken or damaged. The staff was polite but the mere fact that when I checked in there were 3 other ppl at the front and nobody went to go help the one housekeeper that had to get 3 floors of rooms ready for a sold out hotel was just ridiculous
- Deb (10/5): - We had a very over sized room and very clean
- Jane (6/5): Pleasant - The location was close to where we had to be. The beds were hard and left my back sore.
- Lisa (8/5): - The hotel was great--it did it's job but I wish I had known that the pool was closed. We had 4 kids with us who were very excited to swim.
The breakfast was good, although it ended a lot earlier than what we're used to at other hotels.
The beds were great and the rooms were nice and big.
- Kathy (6/5): - Everything was average about the room except the mattresses and pillows. They were very lumpy and hard, the pillows were the same. The staff was great, very convenient area to stay at but, will never stay again because of the bed and linens.
- Keith (10/5): - Very clean and quiet. Nice breakfast too.
- William (8/5): - The pool was closed and it was never posted online or at the desk. I found out when I went to use it.
- Schriever (7/5): Good -
- Corinne (10/5): - Great breakfast! Nice quiet stay
- JAYNE D (10/5): - Clean and comfortable
- Kimberly (10/5): A Excellent Experience!! - It was a wonderful experience while staying at the Comfort Inn in Altoona, Iowa! The staff was awesome, especially Ginger. I had to be rushed to the hospital, the early evening before the next day of returning home to Columbia South, Carolina. The room was very clean. Again thanks, to Ginger for everything you done for me! I was able to get my ticket changed so, I could get home earlier than late evening!
- justyna (8/5): - Clean and nice hotel for the night in between of destinations.
- Anne (10/5): A nice stopping point. - Stopped for one night while traveling. Hotel and room were clean. Bed was very comfortable. Front desk and breakfast person were friendly. Breakfast was well maintained and fresh. We would stay here again.
- Molly (10/5): Nice place for overnight stay - I would stay here again if I needed to be on the east side of Des Moines or Altoona area. Not hard to get to and close to I-80.
- Tracy (2/5): - We booked & paid with Expedia. When we checked in they didn’t tell us they were over booked & changed our 2 queen room to a king room for 4 adults.
- Darla (10/5): - The staff wasn't trained well and had to keep referring to the manager for assistance in another room, which took alot of time to get checked in. But the stay was comfortable and the breakfast was delicious, i would stay again.
- Debbie (8/5): - Rooms were very clean, spacious and comfy bed. Breakfast buffet was great. Would have given a 5 but pool was closed without prior notification.
- Yelitza (10/5): - n/a
- Heather (4/5): Room was not cleaned and ready for us. - Upon checking in at 3:00, our room was not ready. We were on a time schedule because our son was shooting at State Archery at 4:30. We had to wait 20 minutes and that put us off schedule. We were late for our Archery check in time.
Also, there was a dried up contact lens on the bathroom floor.
- Christina (10/5): - Many restaurants near by. Easy access to interstate.
- McKayla (6/5): - When we got to the hotel there were no carts at the front door so we had to haul all of our stuff in (5 people) without. Got to the desk and rang the bell. No one came for ~5 minutes. Tried to use AAA for a discount but was denied because the booking was made through a third party. Finally got our keys and to our room. Looked clean and modern. Changed into swimsuits only to be told the pool is closed and has been for quite some time. Luckily for our kids, they called the hotel next door, & they allowed us to go over to swim. When getting ready for bed I went to adjust the heat in the room only to realize there was black mold in the vents of the unit and on the curtains above. Breakfast the next morning was decent. Normal continental breakfast but one of the employees stood at the door of the kitchen watching us eat the whole time which was uncomfortable. Check out was easy. Overall probably won’t stay here again due to cleanliness & lack of amenities.
- David (3/5): Poor - Pool was broke and we ordered a king size 1 bed room and was given 2 bed queen room
- Tara (10/5): I had a good trip - It was close to everything Na
- Perry (10/5): Breakfast needs work, but great stay - Great experience with all the staff, super nice and friendly.
Breakfast needs work; eggs were runny and selection of other items was limited.
- pat (10/5): - It's a nice hotel and the staff we're great
- Larry (4/5): Third room is a charm! - I had to change rooms 2 times. The first room they gave me the heater was stuck on high and it was 90 degrees. The second room they gave me the door lock batteries went dead and it took them an hour to get me back into my room only to find out the door lock still was malfunctioning even though new batteries were installed. On to the third room which was fine but it was a 2 hour ordeal just to get me a room that was acceptable. The staff was as helpful as they could be and I told them I was not a happy customer. The staff told me to talk to the manager in the morning who told me that 25% off the next stay is what she could offer. She told me that she would email me the 25% off but I never received it.
- Melanie (10/5): - Other than a semi crashing into the front of the building, stay was great. Staff was quick to action as the emergency services.
- James (10/5): - My stay here was the best experience at any hotel I ever been at. The staff here is so nice to me
- James (10/5): - I would recommend confer in Altoona to anybody it's a clean place nice staff and everybody is friendly
- Daniel (8/5): Clean and friendly. - Did not eat there.
- Linda (10/5): Spacious, clean & quiet! - Nice room, spacious and clean. Fair breakfast. Very quiet! Good mattress!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Everything we needed - The room was spacious, well-kept, the bed comfortable, We keep the fan on when we stay in hotels so we don't hear other guests and had no problem here either. Check-in desk person was polite, considerate and helpful. Breakfast was standard with waffles if you want to make them. The neighborhood is fine with many eating establishments within a mile, Prairie Meadows casino and track is across the street, but it was quiet. It was as advertised.
- Robert (8/5): Very relaxing and comfortable - The breakfast was very good. The staff was excellent very helpfully and accommodating One of the sheets on the two beds had a dirt smudge on it.
- Andrew (5/5): Passable -
- Douglas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cody (10/5): - Overall good experience
- Matthew (9/5): Two thumbs up - Price
- Kyle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Molly (2/5): Unpleasant stay - It was quiet and a warm place to sleep. The pool was closed and there was no warning when booking and no notification before arriving. We specifically booked with a hotel that had a pool. The dead bolt did not work on the door. The sheets, comforter, pillow and towel had brown, yellow and what looked like blood stains. I asked for a replacement we waited for over an hour and 1/2 went to the front desk and was told they didn't have any extra comforters. We said we can't sleep without covers and they said they would ask the manager. They finally brought a top sheet and comforter that were wadded up not even folded and the comforter had stains on it. We ended up using our kids snuggle blankets.
- Millicent (8/5): - Generally ok but bad is too stiff
- Tonia (9/5): Superb - Clean facilities, friendly staff, and great breakfast.
- Kate (10/5): Exceptional - We stayed on the third floor and it was handicap accessible, easy for me to use my scooter to get in and out of the room and up and down the hallways... The coffee tasted terrible !!!!
- Christine (8/5): Clean but used - Hotel was in a good location but needs updating.
- Jess (7/5): Convenient location, friendly staff, and large rooms. - The lobby was spacious and clean. We were greeted right away by the clerk who was super kind and very helpful.
The continental breakfast consisted of hard boiled eggs, yogurt, waffles, 3 cereal options, scrambled eggs, sausage links, biscuits and gravy, white and wheat toast, 3 kinds of mini muffins, apple orange and cranberry juice.
The facility was clean and staff was friendly. The water in the shower remained hot, and the water pressure was great! All in all we enjoyed our stay There was a semi parked in the lot taking up majority of the available parking.
- Aricia (8/5): - Place is clean, this is the most important thing to us. However, we purposely select hotels that do not allow pets for a variety of reasons-we are pet lovers but... The hotel did not indicate that it was pet friendly so we assumed that pets were not allowed, this was incorrect as there were a few dogs in the hotel the second time we stayed there. Again, over all clean hotel with good breakfast. Biggest complain is the beds are very hard. We have a firm bed a home which I prefer but their bed felt like sleeping on a board.
Also, the first time we stayed there some of the rooms on our floor were being fumigated (or so we assume) as the outer doors were taped down to the ceiling and floor in plastic so I am glad they stay of top of whatever needs to be addressed. We alway check for bed bugs no matter where we stay.
We may not stay there again not because of any overall concerns just simply because the bed was so hard it kicked in my back pain.
- Joe (10/5): - All is great
- Robert (8/5): Excellent one nighter accommodation - Nice comfortable room, all good. No complaints.
- Michael (8/5): - The room was very clean and we loved how big the bathroom was. It would have been nice to have a adjustable shower head but it had decent water pressure. The linen smelled clean but the bed was very hard. We would recommend this place just for the cleanliness and staff friendliness.
- Lonnie (10/5): - Loved the cleanliness of the room. Bed was comfy. The continental breakfast was the best one I have ever had.
- Laura (8/5): Good enough! - Listen, this isn't gonna be the fanciest hotel you ever stay at...but if you need a fairly cheap hotel for a quick stay, this one is just fine. Staff was friendly enough, it was clean enough, and felt safe enough. Breakfast was decent as well!
- Donnamarie (7/5): Good -
- Jim (5/5): Passable - It was clean The rooms had an odor, and there were no drain plugs in the sink or bathtub. The drains were full of hair
- Watkins (10/5): Title - Everything Nothing
- Randolph (10/5): - Very clean.
- Tess (7/5): It was okay, I guess - Location Too expensive for what you get
- Randy (8/5): - It was nice
- Bob (8/5): Nice Property - Nice clean and comfortable room. The property is well located with many restaurants nearby. A casino (with attached horseback) is located directly across the road.
- Kristin (10/5): - Friendly staff. Clean Rooms. Nice Hotel.
- Vicki (9/5): Superb -
- Steve (8/5): Very staff and great breakfast. - The breakfast was good and the breakfast staff were very friendly. Pool area was smaller than expected.
- Brenda (10/5): - this was a very nice Hotel, and was not far from the State Fair
- Curtis (7/5): Good -
- Simon (8/5): We will stay here again in the future! - Room was very clean. Breakfast was great! Pool was small. No hot tub. Parking lot was full at night with people having to park on the grass around the building. Room rate was high for a basic hotel room.
- Senaida (6/5): Pleasant - Beds were comfortable. Easy access to restaurants and close to family. The heavy Curtains did not close all the way. Light in bathroom out.
- Juanita (8/5): Comfortable and Clean - 4 out of 5 only because the hot food was already cleaned up and put away 10 minutes early. Please give the staff instruction to leave it out until 10am since thats what guests are told. I paid a bit more to stay here because breakfast was imcluded. Loved how clean everything was though and all the staff was very friendly.
- Terri (9/5): Overall our stay was nice for the cost - It was decent Provide breakfast sandwiches and I was disappointed that there wasn’t a jacuzzi. When I read the amenities online and saw “spa” I assumed it meant it had a hot tub/ jacuzzi. So I’ll definitely have to pay closer attention to that next time we travel.
- Brian (9/5): Superb - Easy access from I80, clean and comfortable, great selection of restaurants close by.
- Jason (10/5): - Very nice staff, close to Adventureland and casino.
- Julie (10/5): - The beds at this motel was comfy i was able to sleep good usually most beds are hard as a rock these wasnt
- Danielle (9/5): Friendly and clean hotel, I would stay there again! - Location, cleanliness and friendly One elevator for whole place. Not enough outdoor seating accommodations.
- Melissa (6/5): - Very basic, but trouble with cooling in the room & no bathroom ventilization. Pool is very small & room not maintained...rotting bc of humidity. Good basic breakfast & standard room amenities.
- Mark (10/5): - Great service and Friendly staff
