Guest Reviews

- Ralf (9/5): Wir kommen bestimmt wieder.

Etwas abgewohnt..

- Guest (9/5): Ein super schönes Hotel mit sehr Flair. - Das Hotel ist super schön gelegen. Die Verbindung zum Amphitheater-Gelsenkirchen, mit ÖVP, ist etwas Umständlich.
- Peter (9/5): Superb -
- Nicholas (6/5): It was okay, but a little faded. - Good location for the football. Free parking. Grand arrival. Pleasant beer garden run by the hotel garden in the park by the river. Breakfast was pleasant. Clean and comfortable but best described as faded and dated.
Move on the Canada geese from the gardens. They poop everywhere and attract flies.
- Eric (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tim (8/5): Would definitely stay again. - Nice staff and rooms, excellent breakfast. Restaurant unfortunately closed.
- Marek (10/5): Exceptional -
- Smairtech (7/5): Good - Excellent well-kept park, although there is no lighting in the evening, so walks are only possible during the day. Clean rooms. I got the impression of some kind of abandoned house. Warehouse at reception and in the bar. The bar was not open, so it was quite deserted and uncomfortable in the evening. The restaurant was also closed on the day of our arrival, even though we had warned the staff that we
would like to have dinner at the hotel.
Overall there is a feeling that the schloss is more for ceremonies or events rather than just a hotel that is ready for guests every day.
Werde dort sicher erneut buchen.
- Giorgi (9/5): Superb - Great place No air conditioning
- Helena (7/5): Beautiful gardens, parks - Clean comfy room Perfect place to rest and relax
- Ioannis (10/5): Best Hotel in Gelsenkirchen Buer - If you want to visit Gelsenkirchen this is the place.
It is by far the best location that you can find in the area, by far.....
An old traditional German Schloss, kept in excellent condition, in the nature, in the green next to a small lake.
Stuff super. Breakfast super. The was room cosy and warm.
In our opinion it is a privelege to stay there, cause they have a limited number of rooms
Vielen Dank und auf wiedersehn.

On 06.07 I arrived in Cologne at 23.00. Thank you for the patience shown to me by the girl at the reception. Her attention, sympathy helped to solve my problem, despite the difficulty in communication, my lack of knowledge of the language.
In the morning I was glad to hear my native speech and it was an employee at the reception. Her sensitivity helped me throughout my trip. She taught me how to buy tickets at the terminals and it made my journey very easy. Such employees are a value and decoration for your hotel. About such it is written in the Bible:
"A good man keeps good in his heart, and good comes from him."
I wish you prosperity and only such employees!
- Eugenia (4/5): never will stay again - park around everything else
- Daniel (10/5): Very pleasant - Frendliness of staff.
Picturesque quiet location n/a
- Ekaterina (9/5): Superb - Beautiful inside-out, surrounded by amazing huge garden. very friendly staff, clean and cosy - you really feel like living in a castle!
- Henning (10/5): make sure you opt-in for breakfast. served at a very nice location, overseeing the park. -
- Charles (8/5): Very good -
- Antoinette (8/5): Very good -
- Andrea (7/5): Good - location great staff at reception friendly breakfast was rather poor and room super dark. serving per person pre prepared no choices nor buffet. reception area very old fashioned
- Mike (7/5): Good -
- Residence (8/5): Very good -
- Juliette (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (8/5): Overall a nice stop over on our journey across Germany with lovely surrounding. - Lovely location Hallways and reception seemed a little cluttered with things (there was an event the evening before which would explain some of this).
Air con would have been nice though a fan was provided.
Window meshes for all windows would be preferred due to being close to water, we had a lot of insects in the room at night.
The bath/shower splash screen wasn’t fully sealed which meant water flooded the floor a little. Simple repair to fix.
- Jan-willem (9/5): Superb -
- Karl-Heinz (10/5): Kommen in jedem Fall wieder - Sehr nettes Personal, toller Suite und tolles Frühstück
- Global20980313740 (10/5): nicest people ever!! - we had the loveliest time at schloss berge. everyone made us feel welcome and was so super nice! the whole atmosphere and welcoming attitude made for such a nice stay. the food and service was delightful thank you all at schloss berge for a wonderful time in germany:)
- PeterinIrelandUK (10/5): A small family run locally respected hotel and event location - I have known Schloss Berge (as. Park) since I used to visit Germany as a young boy. Returning to Germany to visit family after many absent years I decided to stay in the place of my boy hood memories. My local family said it was too expensive but I disagreed.
The hotel has only 11 bedrooms which are on the third floor, while convention and reception rooms are on the ground and first floor. The room was a double with two arm chairs, dressing table, tv and mini-bar. It did not normally come with hot drink making facilities but upon request, they provided a capsule coffee maker and replaced the used capsules daily. Fresh fruit was provided to the room each day. Our room had a shower but others have a bath.
We did not use the restaurant in the evening, as relatives insisted we ate with them, but we did have breakfast each morning. Breakfast is not included in the price of the room and at £14.95 per person per day you might think pricey, but as were stopping for 9 days the offered a too good to miss deal. They say you can eat breakfast all morning, we settled for just an hour but certainly had our fill. It does not include a full English (well I didn’t see it) but it did have the traditional continental breakfasts of cheeses, various meats, cereals, and eggs (we had scrabbled eggs every day with German bacon). Drinks were a choice of about 12 teas, coffee of course, fruit juice, etc. Although we did not participate we saw others have wine/champagne with there breakfasts and salmon with their breakfasts. All the staff was very polite, respectful and understanding (their English was much better than my German).
I was surprised to find the hotel was dog friendly, and on three separate occasions different dogs were brought into the breakfast room (although very well behaved not something I’d seen in the UK).
As the hotel is a chateau/ castle, it has it’s own moat and sits in the beautiful Schloss Berge Park, all very peaceful and above all quite.
- Bernd (10/5): - Sehr schönes kleines Hotel mit gehobenem Anspruch. Kostenlose Parkplätze und W-Lan
- m (4/5): Not great for business - Nice building but WiFi is absolutely terrible and the service could be better
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice hotel, breakfast was amazing view over the garden
- Bernd (10/5): 90er Party - War alles sehr schön uns sauber. Sehr gut zur Veltins Arena gelegen
- Verified traveler (10/5): Sehr schön! - Sehr schön !
- TFM (10/5): - Like the history about the hotel and restaurant services
- frequentraveler13 (6/5): Disappointing meal - This is a restaurant in a lovely setting with high end service and overlooks a garden. Have eaten there before but latest meal not up to usual standard. They have many game dishes on the menu but the venison was over cooked and tasteless- could have been other meat. Red cabbage nothing special. The spaetzle were homemade and best part of dish. Extensive alcohol and dessert offerings.
- Richard (10/5): Beautiful place, but for the more refined person - The whole place is beautiful, the staff are helpful, and the room was massive!
The whole stay was a great one. They have no air conditioning in our room, but they do provide a fan and the windows can be opened. There's a fly screen too to protect you while you sleep!
We never ate the food their as it was all fish based and too expensive for our blood, so we can't comment on their dining experience.
Overall, we thought the place was scenic, it has a beautiful lake in front of it visible from the room, and there are bus routes close by, making this place accessible to all. We just felt that we were a little too common for the place, but that was just us, nobody made us feel that way.
- zaminia (10/5): A wonderful place, nice and friendly service - I stayed in an other Hotel for 3 days, but Ive been there all the 3 days for breakfast, drinking my coffee and even checking out the menu Card. Everything was very good.
My "Grillteller" which is a big plate wih a lot of Beef, gratin and a salat was awesome. So yummy! The Service was excellent. So friendly and helpfull. Mister Egeliong a Young employee, so good!
- AliciaM927 (4/5): A very average visit - During a Sunday morning drive around we decided to stop in here. Apparently the restaurant has the best cake in the area. I was a little dissapointment I must admit.
On arrival we were not attended to and had to seek out assistance. We were given a table that was still dirty and not fresh. The dining area was overcrowded, but not with people. Some attention to the layout would be advisable. Our waitress appeared to be more than a little frazzle and no further attention was given past our cappuccino's and cake. The froth on the cappuccino's was bubbly and aery and covered in hot chocolate powder. Not very enjoyable. The milk tasted like it had been boiled a few times. I ordered the Black Forest Cake. It has now turned out several times where I had ordered more 'traditional' items that I was dissapointed. The thin layers of actual cake was extremely dry and consisted mostly of a ton of cream which blocked any and all possibility of tasting anything but the buttery cream. The view onto the garden was pleasant enough.
- SEE_Ship (10/5): Not to top in this region! - Not to top in this area and Miles around! You want to know why? Check it out!
We got excellent food and Perfect service from friendly staff - Highly appreciated!
Fair But not low prices - reflecting The surroundings, Quality and service....
I am sure you will like it!
- SueL826 (8/5): Very good.....but strange! - A really beautiful building with fantastic gardens. I stayed on business as we had a meeting there. The food is excellent...be aware if you are a vegetarian that he menu is very meat based...but none the less excellent quality. The rooms however are old fashioned and basic with the bathrooms feeling like the 1970's. It left me with a really strange feeling and the clutter in the reception area is a little strange. Staff are really helpful and polite with nothing being too much trouble.
- meyauwe (8/5): Quiet, luxurious, friendly - You would not expect this hotel in the middle of the industrial Ruhr valley - it is a water castle that was extensively renovated a few years ago with a few hotel rooms added and is located within a large public park. The staff is very friendly and helpful without any exception. The adjacent restaurant offers a huge choice of very good and sometimes opulent food, from very sophisticated meals over seafood (which is a specialty of the chef) to local cuisine. The hotel rooms are pleasant and quiet. You are on the motorway #2 with your car within 2 minutes and have also access to public transportation. If you wish to visit a Schalke 04 soccer game, the hotel is within walking distance. However, make sure to book early: the few rooms are frequently booked long in advance for weddings, business meetings or soccer games!
- TonyP705 (8/5): Go for the food and the service - If you are planning to stay in the area this is the place to go for food and service.
The room I had was very average, with little character. However, the restaurant and even the room service serve fabulous food.
Breakfast is also a great experience.
The building and grounds are wonderful.
I'd certainly recommend this over the nearby Marriott Courtyard.
- euro73 (10/5): Excellent hotel with friendly staff - Very nice hotel with very helpful staff. Breakfast was extraordinary. As 2010 this region is the European Capital of Culture (www.ruhr2010.de) it's definitely worth a visit and Schloss Berge can be certainly recommended as a perfect place to stay.
