- Pascale (8/5): Endroit calme et agréable correspondant à mes attentes. - Accueil très sympathique de Viviane.
Petit-déjeuner avec des produits locaux
Un très beau cadre ... Un endroit calme permettant de se ressourcer ...
- Robert (10/5): We loved our stay in Château d'Avanton, I cannot recommend it enough! - Château d'Avanton is a picturesque castle in a beautiful village. With a fantastic breakfast, swimming pool, table tennis, and board games. The village has a local baker, butcher and a shop. Most importantly Viviene is an amazing host who looked after us so well.
- Bruno (8/5): Cadre magnifique. A recommander ! -
- MARK (10/5): - Amazing staying in a real castle.
- mark (7/5): A property truly full of character. Need to drive for an evening meal. Poitiers worth visiting - Wonderful host who looked after us well despite a recently broken wrist. She would have been justified in cancelling our booking because of it but carried on. Lovely fresh breakfast. Loads of character to the property. Well situated to visit Poitiers A bit more warmth in the room, but it was unseasonably chilly when we visited

- Serge (10/5): -
- Patrick (10/5): -
- Derek (8/5): Unusual, attractive and comfortable accommodation if you don’t mind stairs! - A beautiful chateau, rustic and charming. Spacious and character filled bedroom (Mazarin). Everything was clean, comfortable and provided. A little remote if you need a restaurant.
- Martin (9/5): Great place to stay - Lovely Chateau, sympathetically restored and maintained . Was very spacious and unique to stay in a building that was originally from the 1500”s . Very easy to find and close enough to main routes.
- Michael (9/5): Wonderful experience, and being able to have a swim in the morning was nice - Well located, and staying in a real chateau was amazing
- Kerry (10/5): A night staying in a room full of history - It was a real priviledge to stay in this chateau. It was absolutely full of history and stunning. We stayed in the Maran room which had a small kitchenette which was a real plus. The Pool area was lovely in such warm weather and you felt very much left to your own devices.
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing rooms in the attic with the exposed beams and views. Very quirky, with different levels.
A few steps to climb. But worth the effort.
The magnificent dining room, well you will have to see for yourself.
Breakfast marvellous. Nothing.
- Robertson (9/5): Superb - The atmosphere and history were wonderful. The host made us very welcome and was charming. The views were huge and restful. The stairs up to the room were very hard for oldies like us. However it was our choice to stay in an historic building so we are not complaining. The pool was a little basic but served the purpose.
- Zoe (10/5): A great find! - A spectacular castle and very well maintained. Good air con as it was 33-degrees! Nice pool. Lovely gardens. Wonderful breakfast and very nice lady host.
- Jean (10/5): Comfortable and welcoming place, enjoy the anachronism of wifi and a swimming pool in a castle... - The host endeavors to facilitate the check-in (key box). One of the two bedrooms we got was under the rooftop and could get warm by hot or sunny weather, but windows had been opened and the "aircon" helped quickly getting the temperature back to comfortable levels. Both rooms had their own kitchen with all needed hardware. The breakfast was abundant with eggs and cheese available. The hosts share their swimming pool. A history of the castle is available in the bedrooms. The area is quite rural and I got trails for jogging in the fields around. My son enjoyed the quality of the internet connection. The ride/ driving to the nearby "Futuroscope" is only about 20mn. Nice view from our bedroom on the sunrise and just-harvested wheat fields. Some rooms may require some efforts to carry heavy suitcases up the stairs...
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jayne (10/5): We had a very comfortable overnight stay en route driving through France. - Beautiful chateau in lovely countryside. Clean and comfortable accommodation with kitchen. Nothing.
- Ian (9/5): A unique place to stay! - Viviane was an excellent hostess. The Chateau was historically quirky with a wonderful dining room. The bedroom was very comfortable and breakfast was delicious. The proximity to Poitier was good and easy to visit with a good choice of restaurants.
- Cook (7/5): Good -
- Geoff (9/5): Superb -
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional - Incredible place. The tower room is really beautiful and atmospheric
- Sonia (3/5): don't go - the building was gorgeous didn't like all the moths in the bathroom or covers on the bed very old sheets not nice
- John (10/5): We felt privileged to be able to be part of this fairytale experience. - Quite a unique experience and a delicious breakfast.
- David (8/5): Very good - Nice to stay somewhere different to a hotel Nothing to dislike
- Jane (8/5): Characterful place in the countryside - Characterful property. Kitchenette was very limited with a fridge cable that had to be plugged in across the draining board so not very practical even for preparing a basic meal
- Edward (10/5): An authentic French destination steeped in history - Everything! This beautiful Chateau is a real find and truly authentic, having been lovingly and sympathetically restored within the last 20 years or so. A great location with a local bus-link twice daily, and close to other destinations.
Free parking on site.
Ideal for couples, groups and families and with a small kitchen for self-catering.
Bear in mind, the property dates as far back as 5th century ( Basement) and 15th/16th Century for the body of the Chateau. There are wide stairs ( surfaces can be uneven as worn over time) It’s 5 flights to the top of the central tower, there is no ground floor, from the entrance hall it’s either up one flight to the dining room, or down to the basement which has a table tennis table.
Three flights up from the entrance hall is a lounge and games room with a billiard table, and two further flights up are 3 rooms.
Other rooms are accessed via the dining room or doors in the wings of the chateau.
We stayed in ‘Cone d’or’ which was a very large and beautiful room with a large bed, two further beds, plenty of chairs and sofas, a tv, kitchen and en-suite.
The shower was great, with instant hot water.
The room has some of the oldest oak timbers in the building
Avanton is a very typical tranquil French village. Having some french is helpful.
A short walk away from the chateau is a small central group of shops, walk right at the war memorial outside the chateau, across the island and turn right at the next island by the statue of The Virgin Mary ( on the left on the opposite side of the island to the graveyard)
Keeping the graveyard on your left, walk to the next junction (follow the road) and turn left, walk past the bus-stops, restaurant, and the shops are ahead on the right, including:
A butcher with a superb range of meat, charcuterie, wine, cheese and pre-prepared dishes, great for self-catering. Nothing.
- Giulia (10/5): An historical gem - The charteau is impressive and comfortable. The breakfast was nice and generous. The pool was lovely.
- Alexander (8/5): Very good -
- Susan (7/5): Characterful place to stay - Traditional chateau in the countryside. Large rooms and lots of character. Nice to have own kitchen and also the use of a games room Some of the furniture a bit dated and there were a number of dead flies in some of the rooms so could do with cleaning before visitors arrive
- Grace (10/5): A special place. We loved it! - Breakfast was great. Fresh croissants and baguette with homemade jams, fruit and yoghurt.
The room was amazing, the bed was comfortable. A shower in a tower! The garden was very pretty and we enjoyed the swifts.
The host kindly allowed us to use her washing machine and suggested a nice local restaurant for our supper. I would recommend it to all my friends. Nothing
- Imogen (10/5): Very atmospheric, we loved it - Fantastic to stay in a real chateau! The games rooms were great and added to the experience. Really helpful to have a little kitchen as it is in a small village (and was a stormy night so glad to stay in).
Location is also great for Poitiers and the motorway.
- Celia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Markus (10/5): Exceptional - The chateau is amazing, we loved the atmosphere and that there was so much to do (swimming pool, table tennis etc.) - we really enjoyed our stay!
- Donna (7/5): Lovely stay and very friendly - Building was gorgeous and the history Lack of mirrors, short or full length in main room
- Andrew (8/5): Friendly host, space and silence - Quiet, lovely location, fascinating property Had to travel a few miles for an evening meal
- Hanneke (7/5): Nice and clean and lovely stay in the castle. - Large, clean rooms and really enjoyed ‘Salle des jeux’ to play chess, Monopoly, Pool and other games. Breakfast was really nice.
- Charles (10/5): Great stay for families - Lots for the kids to do: Table tennis, swimming pool, snooker/billiards room, card games, board games
Breakfast was great especially the croissant and the coffee. Useful egg boiler. The cheese selection was fab, fruit, cereal selection.
Poitiers and futuroscope werebboth less than thirty minutes away.
Airport was just a few minutes away.
Self catering, with lots of supermarkets less than fifteen minutes away
The rooms were huge and plenty of bed options
Vivian is a great, friendly host. Her team are also very competent and helpful. The team was able to suggest useful local activities (bowling, mini golf etc) I could take the family to on the last day while waiting for the plane. We got there when France regional temperatures were 37 degrees Celsius. Not a usual weekly occurance just yet, but the host's air conditioning unit was unable to cope. Also one of our rooms had no air-conditioning unti. Something for the host to monitor as the world gets hotter.
- Christine (8/5): What a great find. Our room was more of a suite with stone floors & stairs. Stunning! - Stunning property, wonderful breakfast. Nothing.
- Sharon (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (10/5): Absolutely stunning 🤩 - It was our second visit to this beautiful chateau absolutely stunning building amazing views can’t wait to stay here again.
- Jeremy (10/5): Exceptional - perfect 👌🏼
- Kevin (4/5): Disappointing - Lovely location Host was completely absent. Noone there to check in took well over an hour to find someone to speak to had to phone around Host eventually answered after a lot of hanging up on us said she had left a key under a rock. Not a great welcome. Facilities are quite musty and dated needs a bit of tlc pool needs a good clean as with a lot of the chateau. Breakfast was very poor. one egg each provided that you cooked yourself nothing else edible other than a baton of bread everything else not that there was much was food that looked like it had been left out for weeks which judging by the fact it was on the same table the evening beforehand probably had. Looked at a jar of jam and it was covered in mould. Still noone to be seen all through breakfast host completely absent for our entire visit other than when we left someone appeared as we were walking out the door.
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Amelie (9/5): Superb - I had the pleasure of staying at the beautiful Château d’Avanton for a night. The hostess Vivianne was incredibly welcoming and helpful. The room I had was beautiful and well-appointed, making for a comfortable stay. Also the breakfast was exceptional! I can highly recommend this B&B!
- Suzanne (8/5): lovely chateau and comfortable, fully equipped room. - lovely chateau with comfortable room & fully equipped kitchen. there was nowhere walkable to have an evening meal, so I ended up cooking. which was ok but not ideal really.
- Janet (9/5): Superb - Very beautiful Chateau, Vivienne the host is charming and the room was clean and bright. It's all a little old fashioned but everything you need.We liked it. Beautiful views across open countryside. We would stay again. Nothing really
- Michele (8/5): Very good -
- Nick (5/5): Passable -
- Hankin (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (7/5): Beautiful place but not very cosy - The location is stunning, and the castle like something out of a fairytale. It is in a village and easily accessible to village amenities. We stayed in a room in an attic....lots and lots of narrow stairs, which isn't great if you have any mobility issues or heavy cases. The bathroom was on another level too.
Unusually there was no-one to meet us on arrival. We knew where to find the key, so communication was good, but not like being met by a person.
Similarly, at breakfast, everything was laid out, even flasks of coffee, so we didn't meet anyone then either. It felt a bit impersonal.
- Christian (9/5): Superb - Very helpful and considerate host. Very clean and a good breakfast. A rather long drive to find somewhere to eat in the evening. First place, about 10 minutes away was fully booked, so had a further 20 mins drive to the next place. Best to ask for a reservation at the first venue to be booked in advance.
- Clarke (9/5): Loved it. - Room was spacious with plenty of tables and chairs. The view from the bathroom was superb, it would be great to have a larger window in the bedroom. Breakfast was good and the dining room was fantastic. Great area for walking and cycling. Viviane was a well organised and good host.
- Allan (10/5): Lovely romantic place to stay with excellent facilities and a most welcoming host. - The ambience was perfect. Magnificent rooms in style. Our rooms had separate kitchen area (including microwave/oven) and large bathroom with Jack and Jill washbasins. Just a lovely experience.
- Lloyd (8/5): Very pleasant venue. Lovely chateau. - The chateau experience. Lovely pool. Tea or coffee facilities in our room.
- Anne (9/5): Superb -
- Laura (10/5): Top notch accommodation with heaps of character - Can’t speak highly enough of this lovely chateau/hotel. All mod cons whilst retaining all the character of the chateau. I absolutely loved it and will be returning. Nothing!
- Simone (8/5): Very good -
- Wayne (10/5): Just wonderful- thank you. - Our host is always so very welcoming. The room is excellent for a family. All facilities included are excellent. We love the pool, games room and table tennis.Location is superb for the nearby city and theme park. Parking amble. Setting just beautiful.
- Simon (8/5): A window into history - The superb history of the castle was so interesting - to use the stone steps used for hundreds of years by generations was quite something and the size of it was breathtaking. A small equipped kitchen was available within our room and a small supermarket and bar close by. The breakfast room was very authentic with furniture and tapestries to suit the castle exactly. Although the kitchen was useful it wasn’t in keeping with the rest of the room (which was authentic)so not sure about that.
- Lucy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (10/5): Authentic castle stay - Extraordinary place - most places that look like a castle don't feel like a castle when you get inside. Château d'Avanton is truly authentic, it has not been 'modernised' and so keeps all its character. But it's very comfortable, has everything you'd need (and more). Great breakfast and a super welcome from Madame. A really exceptional place to stay. Nothing not to like. It was brilliant.
- Anthony (10/5): What a beautiful place. - Full of character and charm. Clean and thoughtfully decorated. A lovely host and the breakfast was perfect.
- Richard (10/5): Perfect overnight luxury accommodation - Everything was perfect the room and host
