Guest Reviews
- Ronald Wilkie (10/5): Excellent location, great staff and reasonable cost - staff, location and atmosphere is great nothing all good
- Shogo (10/5): -

- John (3/5): Unpleasant experience at Zen Tea House - Zen style with Buddhist theme and staff are friendly. Poor location surrounding is like a slump. It’s misleading to state seven star as it is the name of the district. Away from most activities sightseeing and shops. No beverages except tea. TV not working! Front not able to help effectively with tours and booking of Lijiang Cruise. No parking. Mistakes by staff not allocating correct room bed configurations. Front desk 7-11pm. So uncomfortable that we have to change hotel stay prematurely.
- Alejandro (10/5): - Your staff are amazing, in particular the young man on reception, big smile, very chatty, making the effort to translate from mandarin to English, he was there during my stay and he was very helpful and pleasant. He approached me on 10th April around 5pm asking me about my trip ,an absolute asset to your company
The room was clean, very clean, your Housekeepers do a great job
Really quiet as well and great view from my window
Great coffee shop next to the hotel I think you should look for an option to get a small lift or something as to lift the luggages from those steps was hard and I imagine an elderly person would struggle hundred per cent with that
Finding the hotel was hard as hidden in an alley
I would advise to record a video showing how you get there from the pet's shop as my driver left me far from so I got lost for a good 15min and having a foreign number I couldn't call reception
Id suggest you'd send your WeChat in advance with a video how to get there and also a way to communicate.
These are suggestions but I still give you a 10😊
- Andreea (7/5): ok - The view to the river and the style of the room There was hair everywhere, the toilet was dirty.
- Péter (8/5): Nice boutique hotel - Unique designed, spacious rooms, with a nice view to the river. Free tea and coffe, fast WiFi, and kind staff make comfortable your stay Many mosquitos in the room, which has no heating, and can be cold in January. Very hard to find the hotel, and some maps application will leads you to a wrong place. No breakfast.
- Tyler (10/5): Would stay again. Great staff, great room, great coffee shop, great location. - Great area within walking distance of the core area in Guilin. Good local feel. Seating at the coffee shop could use a good cleaning but the coffee shop itself is great. Little tough to find the property the first time.
- Luccas (10/5): - They upgraded our room without asking, which was awesome. The room was comfy, the shower was great and it had a nice view. The staff was friendly and gave us free coffees. Nearby, there are a lot of restaurants and convenience stores. Easy to get to touristy places and there were well kept historical buildings within a bike distance.

- Emanuela (7/5): -
- nona (9/5): Comfortable Stay and Helpful Staff - The room was beautiful, bright, and very comfortable. Lovely decoration.
It had a kettle, and when we asked for an iron, the reception staff kindly provided a new one. Everyone was very helpful and polite. The hotel is about a 20-minute walk from Riyue Shuangta Cultural Park and around 5-7 minutes by taxi. The area feels a bit dark at night, but it seemed safe overall.
- Eleonora (9/5): -
- Anja (8/5): -
- Sandra (2/5): -
- Dawid (8/5): Very good - The room was quite nice and the place is close to old city center. The surroundings of the place aren't very nice – the alley is rather run-down and there's a lot of trash.
- Rosemary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrei (10/5): Exceptional - Good area close to old centre (20 minutes walking), very helpful staff, we got some free coffees from their cafe place, the room was very nice and the bath tub was quite spectacular with a great view to the river. One of the best stays in China :)
- Charlene (9/5): Perfect Guilin home! - Lovely hotel in a great location a little walk outside of the bustling city centre of Guilin. Staff were super helpful and the room was great. And, as others have mentioned, the coffee shop in the ground floor is very charming and makes delicious coffees (I recommend the coconut latte!).
- Martin (9/5): Very comfortable, helpful staff and easy access to food and sights - Could not have asked for a better welcome for my first stay in China.
Front of house staff excellent, the sister who assisted me was attentive, responsive, informative, helpful, knowledgeable. For someone with a lot of questions it was fantastic.
The room was comfortable and lighting thoughtfully done. The bath was great at the end of a long day of exploring.
Renli noodles a fantastic recommendation, genuine Guilin noodles, helpful staff and great food. I can also recommend the Buddhist Temple restaurant for vegan versions of many dishes, but arrive early as it is busy!
The other food places on the road were interesting, I got chestnuts, little oranges and hawthorn! Unfortunately, the car share tour to Longsheng recommended by the hotel in January 2025 was not good. Every positive thing I said about the sister at Zen Tea House would be reversed for this unhappy man. He was only interested in making the passengers feel like sheep while he led them around and attempted to get more money out of them. Everyone else in the car was Chinese, so I assumed it would be good, but that was not the case. I hope Zen Tea Garden find another operator to work with.
- Alessandro (9/5): Great experience at Zen! Room was clean and as in the pictures. I would go back there! -
- David (10/5): Super Hotel A-M-A-Z-I-N-G Coffee - Nicely designed room with raised seating area, upgraded to a room with a massive bath.
A F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S coffee shop and you get a token for a free Coffee each day. Not only that but the coffee is so reasonably priced ⅓ the price of Starbucks and 10 times better Nothing
- Zoi (9/5): Superb -
- Marilen (10/5): Exceptional - The best hotel I’ve been in. Very nice neighbourhood (a lot of restaurants, a great park) and excellent facilities, very clean.
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - This is a phenomenal Hotel. The staff is fantastic and the rooms are clean and comfy and everything works well. The location is a moderate walk to downtown but it's also right next to a very vibrant strip of restaurants and the like. You definitely don't feel like you're living in a tourist area but you're instead of getting to see daily life all around you. At the hotel itself everything was so smooth and they even give you about your for a free coffee. It was great to see it by the river in the morning. The only thing I can think of is that if you have a room facing the river because there is a Terrace below you if a group of noisy people are sitting there as happened once with me then you're definitely going to hear them. Was not an issue though as it only happened in the afternoon.
- David (10/5): You won't want to leave! - Free room upgrade, beautiful comfortable bed, lovely bathroom, sweet friendly staff and f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s coffee!!!! We've been travelling for 6 weeks and this is our best experience so far and one of the cheapest hotels too.
Definitely made our stay in beautiful Guilin even more special..... I said so many times, " I think I want to live in Guilin" Leaving...... so we haven't yet 🤣
- Marcin (9/5): Superb - Amazing reception staff helped me a great deal with organizing transportation and river Li cruise
- Agata (8/5): Very good - Location ok, close to restaurants and one main attraction. 30 min by taxi from rail station. Comfortable bed. Nice staff and communication only possible by translation app. Nice view of the river from the room. The floor was not clean had dust, dirt and hair but they offer free slippers. The walls need washing, looked like boogers wiped on the walls over the bed. Our room was left open after they changed towels.
- Natalia (10/5): I will come back - The bedrooms are wonderful! Nothing
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional - Nice and helpful staff, amazing coffee, very comfortable :)
- Yi (10/5): Fantastic and friendly staff - It is comfortable and clean. The hairdryer is nice. Very good place to stay.
- Silvia (9/5): Superb - The room was amazing and the staff was very friendly and helpful to us. Highly recommended. All very well
- Laura (7/5): Good - The structure is located near the centre of Guilin and the river: very characteristic but also a bit humid spot.
Staff was really kind; regarding the rooms, we were satisfied by our Deluxe Bathtub Room, not so much our friends who stayed in the Secret Base Queen.
- Harjinder (10/5): Exceptional -
- Barbara (9/5): Superb -
- Marvthesage (10/5): Great stay at clean and modern charming hotel, with very helpful staff. - Very comfy room and the hotel in general. Great location, not far from major attractions and the train station. Extremely helpful staff - helping me book a tour, order something online, and waiting with me to make sure the tour picks me up.
Great attached coffee house with 1 free cup for every booked day.
Lovely decor. Elevator. Just a small pet peeve - the shutters on the window were annoying to operate. And the lights system was a hassle to figure out.
- Doc.ns (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lourdes (10/5): Great - Girls at the hotel were really nice and helpfull. The place is beautifull so everything is great. Thank you so much.
- Mengsi (9/5): Recommend and good for value - Room is clean, location is great, close to a lot of good restaurants, service is very good, reception are very friendly. The Air conditioner in the room is bit loud when it is turned on.
- Bahram (10/5): I recommend it strongly for solo and couple travelers - Cosy, quiet, clean wit excellent service from kind and nice staff. TV was not in good function.
- Soheila (7/5): Great location , traditional hotel and nice staff - Very beautiful and clean room with river view. The location was so good, close to all shops , bank , restaurants and sightseeing. Staff were very kind and helpful. The reception/ lobby was so busy and messy. Smell of dog was annoying. The area for laundry was on top roof , again busy and messy .
- Victor (9/5): Superb - Lovely rooms with attention to detail. With Zen influence
- Yannik (9/5): Super helpful Staff - Clean and nice rooms. Staff is extremely nice and helpful. They went beyond my expectations to help me with my questions and travel plans in Guilin. I highly recommend it.
- Mark (9/5): I very cool spot in the heart of Guilin. - Very fun decorations and location. Very helpful staff! The coffee shop doesn’t open till nine so we weren’t able to enjoy the very delicious looking coffee because we had to leave early for the Li river cruise.
- Jérémy (5/5): Passable - The staff can speak a little English and is kind. The decoration is really zen and traditional I really loved it The smell was really bad and the room always very wet.
- Tracey (9/5): Cute neat place with great staff - Beautiful clean and cute place. Staff very friendly and helpful willing to go an extra mile :)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - great service. it was unfortunate that one of the air conditioners in one of the rooms kept breaking down during our stay but the great service and attitude from the staff made up for everything.
- thomas (10/5): Nice rice - quality ratio - Very good hotel, the reception was nice and the people were very friendly and helpful.
They answer to all our questions, gave us some tips and arrange us some transportation ect.
The room is big and clean.
I recommend this hotel
- Thomas (8/5): - I would recommend using the hotel transportation. It is not easy for taxi cabs to find the location of the hotel. They provided multiple resources for things to do while in Guilin.
- Patrick (8/5): Relaxation - The hotel wasn't the easiest to find on our own, so I would recommend taking a taxi from the airport if you are not so confident. The hotel is located on the river with nice views of the surrounding area. Unfortunately, we had the wrong impression of the area which we thought would be different to other Chinese cities with it maybe being a little more traditional, however it was just the same which is our own fault really (google images didn't help the misconception). We were greeted by a fabulous, gray cat in the waiting room and then taken to our room which lived up to its name of being a relaxation hotel. It had a particularly large and cozy bath as well as a tea drinking area. The breakfast was great and the staff were friendly, they spoke good English also.
- Simon (10/5): Lovely family run boutique hotel - Great little family run boutique hotel. Street entrance is a little off putting but once inside it’s charming. They offer breakfast either western or Chinese - both delicious, the rooms are nice, we had a river view. Staff are great and extremely helpful, took me to a local restaurant around the corner to get take-out when I didn’t have the energy to eat out. We arrived very early (8:30am) and they let us shower and change in s spare room before our check-in at 2pm.
- cat (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay at Zen Tea House. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated, the staff was very friendly and helpful (and spoke good English which is rare in China). The location of the hotel is not very central but it is only a short taxi ride to the city center (it costs less than US$3), so that is not a problem. I would definitely recommend Zen Tea House
- Michal (10/5): Recommended - Close to city center. Helpfull staff.
- Clayton (10/5): Wonderful hosts leave you with zen feeling - This place is one of the more unique hotels. There is an immediate homely feeling the moment you enter. The owner and his wife are extremely welcoming and will gladly arrange tours for you, filling up everyday with fun, local activities - none of the touristy feeling. They will also educate you about Chinese tea culture and there are many opportunities to enjoy different kinds of tea. Definitely would come back to guilin just to stay at this tea house.
- Bill (10/5): - We were very happy with our stay at the Zen Tea House. We arrived in Guilin by train and took a taxi to our hotel. The hotel was not easy to find from the street so we called the hotel. The hotel staff came out to the street to find us and help us carry our bags down the alley to the entrance.
The hotel is located along a flowing river in Guilin. The check in was very nice. They offered us tea while we presented our passports to check in even though we arrived late.
We were taking a trip down the Li River early in the morning and were taking a tour bus before the breakfast. In the morning the staff had packed us a breakfast to take along on the bus which was much appreciated.
When we arrived back at the hotel that evening we walked out on the street to find a nice restaurant. There were many restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel. The selection included many bbq restaurants, traditional chinese, and hot pot. We selected a chicken hot pot which was excelent!
Overall we enjoyed our stay very much. I always enjoy staying in a boutique hotel when it is available because you get a much better Chinese experience.
I would highly recommend the Zen Tea House and plan to stay there again when I visit the are with my wife, daughter, and son-in-law when we travel to Guilin again next year.
- M.theresa (10/5): - there is good tea on arrival and their staff Amy really picked us up from the taxi on the street and helped us with our luggages all the way inside. The hotel was easy to communicate with, on expedia and i had asked them to make arrangements for a pickup from the train station which was done for a good price. (Far cheaper then if i had booked a transfer online or with a travel agency). they wanted to upgrade us to show us their best room but i disliked the idea of packing and unpacking for only 1 night and i was satisfied with what i have booked so i declined, but they did show me the room and it was nice. The breakfast included was good and you have an option between chinese breakfast and western. The room is clean, zen-like and beds are comfortable. Everything was functioning well i.e airconditioning and there was complimentary toiletries and a hair blower in the room. I did slip in the bathroom once but i was not wearing their provided bathroom slippers. The hotel is small, beside the river, and is not far from the main downtown but its location is kind of in a dubious area. Appears safe though, even when we ventured out on our own at night. They also offered their own food tour which i once again declined because of time constraint. The main appeal of the hotel for me was really Amy. She spoke good english and assisted me on multiple things like calling cabs, getting taxi cost estimates and even called the hotel on the next city in our itinerary to ask about pickup.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Best staff ever... and lovely boutique hotel. I will come back. Namaste
- Wai Ngor Amy (8/5):
- Jordann (10/5): Fantastic stay, can’t recommend enough. - We had the most amazing two night stay at Zen Tea House. The staff were amazing and extremely accommodating for our late arrival providing food out of hours, which was delicious & just what was needed. Excellent friendly staff & we cannot recommend the car trip to see the Karst Mountains, our guide was amazing, took photos for us, and was extremely knowledgable on the area. A fantastic end to our trip in China before we moved on to Vietnam.
- Toh (10/5): Zen Tea House - Nice pine wood décor all around. Cosy room. Helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Tucked away, along the river, quiet, zen-like quality.
- Mark (10/5): Return Stay Anticipated - It was a bit hard to find at first as it is tucked away nicely next to the river.
The staff were not only helpful and attentive, but always eager to help. Chris gave a wonderful three hour walking tour of the city, proving some unique views of the beauty and character of Guilin.
I hope to stay there again.
- Tamar (10/5): Awesome! - The river view room was luxurious - a large bathtub and a lovely tea area to look over the city. Lovely lighting options and pretty wood floors. The front desk was very helpful!
- Arne (8/5): - Very pleasant stay with friendly personnel in an environment designed from the heart.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very clean room and great hospitality. Bath tub is great.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This is actually a review for the Zen Tea House - Elephant Park, this hotel’s sister hotel.
We booked at this hotel originally, but were contacted by the hotel immediately afterwards saying the room had been double-booked, and asked if we would be ok with staying at this other hotel instead. We agreed.
The experience here was great! Very friendly and helpful staff, delicious breakfast, and great room with comfortable bed. They arranged a tour for us, and provided competitive pick up/drop off rates for the airport and train station. Would stay here again!
- Andy (10/5): - I cannot recommend this inn enough! The staff were super welcoming and friendly and really made us feel at home. They helped us with everything from restaurant recommendations, calling cabs, and booking tours.
The inn itself has great design. Lovely views from the courtyards, comfortable beds, and adorable common space. Breakfast was also very tasty, filling, and a good deal.
I will definitely book Zen Tea House for my next trip to Guilin.
- Judith and Colin (10/5): - The Zen Tea House is a great place to stay in Guilin. It's tucked out of the way and we had a room which overlooked the river which was nice. The room itself was a good size with nice amenities, clean and comfortable. It was very much a more authentic experience than a corporate hotel with lovely little touches such as the tea service in the room. The staff are all friendly without exception and extremely helpful. Their excellent level of English was a great bonus too. There were plenty of local eateries and you can walk into down town Guilin within about 30 minutes. If you're planning on visiting Guilin or the Li River, we'd recommend this hotel.
- Verified traveler (2/5): -
- Kevin (10/5): Lovely, relaxed hostel with very helpful staff - Really nice hostel. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Staff were really friendly and helpful - one even walked us to the bus we needed to get to the Li river cruise.
- Kristina (10/5): Great little boutique hotel w/exceptional service - This is a nice boutique hotel with a zen type decor and the nicest helpful staff. They are really the best part of this hotel experience, especially the two young men who man the front desk, one day, one evening. They speak good English and were helpful with getting us tours and taxis and busses and trains and the like. You are welcomed with a free drink and a smile when you arrive and the hospitality continues throughout your stay.
The rooms are a bit small but comfortable and the bathroom is quite nice. The breakfast is decent. The value with this property is excellent. Also the location is very good, near to some shops and restaurants and a park, and a short cab ride to downtown...Or for the hearty a 45 min walk or so.
Highly recommend this hotel if you are visiting Guilin.
- Kristina (10/5): A little gem of a hotel would we would definitely - This is a lovely little hotel tucked down an alley. The staff are extremely welcoming and helpful. You are offered a free welcome drink upon arrival. Most of the staff speaks English and will help you book tours and transport and provide recommendations. The hotel and rooms are decorated nicely. The breakfast is decent. Definitely recommend as this place is a very good value.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel staff go our of their way to help you, very comfortable hotel
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff work very hard to ensure a good stay and to help with language translation for english speakers. Very hospitable indeed.
- Matthew (10/5): Great hotel - Stayed with friends at one of the two Zen Tea Houses in Guilin (another is in Yangshuo). Fantastic tea provided with some samples as well upon arrival. We had a slight mix up with an airport pick up and were given room upgrades for our inconvenience which wasn't asked for and superb! The rooms were great. Owner and staff super helpful. Took a free walking tour the following morning with the owner sampling some of the local food and seeing a few sights which was abosultely brilliant. We stayed after a recommendation from a friend who had stayed before and I would recommend the hotel myself to anybody and stay again if I am back in Guilin. Great service, location and staff - faultless.
- Blanca (10/5): A great place to stay in Guilin - The place is quiet and beautifully decorated. The staff is fantastic, not only do they speak good English (a rarity in China), but they are extremely helpful at recommending places to visit and activities to do around town. They even offer a free tour of the city. The place, while not located right in downtown, is only about 20 minute walk from all the action and fairly close (about 5 min walk) from the beautiful Seven Star Park. I totally recommend it to foreign travelers and plan to stay there again myself next time I visit Guilin.
- Simon (10/5): Lovely hotel - We really enjoyed our stay at the Zen Tea House. The location is convenient for central Guilin and the hotel overlooks the river. The staff we very friendly and helpful, answering our questions and even phoning our next hotel in Longji to help us sort the bus journey the next day. We also spent an hour chatting and having tea with them.
The hotel is clean, quiet and stylishly appointed. The Chinese breakfast of noodles, fruit and steamed buns was one of the best of the holiday.
- Simon (10/5): Stylish hotel - We stayed here for two nights with a day gap in between. The staff were friendly and helpful and we got a free beer at check-in. They also booked our Li River cruise for us (which was much cheaper than I found it on the internet). The room was one of the nicest I have ever stayed in - very smartly furnished with a modern but cosy feeling - a small balcony overlooking the river, bamboo matt seating area, nice bed and dual sinks in the bathroom! I would definitely stay again. The breakfast was also excellent.
- Steven (10/5): Beautiful quiet hotel, great staff. - Simply but beautifully decorated room that perfectly fit our needs. Outstanding staff who are willing to do all they can to help, would stay again in a heartbeat.
- Wan (10/5): Nice room interior and friendly staff - Overall experience is good, and staff are very helpful and friendly. Ricky and the other female staff help us arranged our tour to Longji and also recommend us on transportation. Will definitely come back for stay if we are back to Guilin.
- Kevin (10/5): Great hotel - Zen Tea House is a beautiful hotel about ~10 minute drive from Guilin Railway Station. The staff (front desk, cleaning services, food service) were all very friendly and made this a very pleasant stay. Breakfast was delicious (rice noodles w/ fruit (pineapple, apple, dragonfruit) alongside buns.
Hotel helped us with our Li River cruise booking for ~390 yuan (Reminder to bring your passport for the cruise!)
Rooms were very nice and clean. The location of the hotel was a bit tricky for most of the taxi drivers we came across. It's kind of hidden so I would advise taking the hotel business card along w/ you to make it easier.
It's conveniently located about less than 10 minute walk from Seven Star Park. Taxi rides to Elephant Trunk & Sun/Moon Pagoda should be roughly between 13-15 yuan on average from what I remember. Fairly easy to find a taxi outside the hotel since it's alongside a busy road.
Overall, great stay. Highly recommend this hotel!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful Hotel with Helpful Staff - We loved our stay at Zen Tea House! We were greeted upon arrival and invited to join a free walking tour of Guilin and the non-touristy spots. This was so helpful! I have specific dietary requirements and our guide helped us find a lunch spot and communicated my customized meal which was so appreciated. The room is stocked with bug spray, waters, and toiletries. We had to leave early one morning and the staff was able to accommodate an earlier breakfast time...be sure to get the Chinese breakfast of Guilin Rice noodles (delicious!)
- Cheok Kuan (10/5): Clean room and excellent service - Service is excellent and the room is clean. All necessities are ready for use. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Service is good and nothing negative is remembered. Highly recommend.
- Ben (10/5): - I can't say enough about how friendly and helpful the staff at this hotel was. I had booked a single night in the hotel, but after the first 5 minutes of being there, I had already decided to stay there a few more nights.
The room was well designed, clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious, there is laundry, river views and a cool patio on top of the building. If you like tea, you will love this place. The owner knows a ton about tea and is more than willing to share a glass from his great collection.
The bet part of my stay here was the staff. I came to the area rather unprepared but it didn't matter. Everyone there knew a ton about the area and they will hook you up with any sort of adventure you want. This place made my visit to China a great one.
Thank you to all the great folks at Zen Tea House!
