Guest Reviews
- Pia (10/5): - Toll eingerichtet
Super essen
Sehr freundliches Personal
- Hugo (10/5): -
- Jessica (9/5): Het verblijf was erg fijn :).
- welsby (2/5): Nice location but beware of additional charges! - Location and surrounding areas very nice. Additional Items added to the bill that were not received.
Service charge added to restaurant bill without notification.
Offered a glass of water with the meal and charged £4 for it.
- Henry (10/5): Luxury at an affordable price. - Everything! I am struggling to pick out one area that was particularly good, but that is difficult after such a delightful stay. The restaurant was wonderful and even the breakfast sublime. It's just a really nice place to go to wind down and relax. However hard I try, I can't think of anything that needed improvement.
- ANNA (7/5): A great wee hotel - The location. Ground floor roo with patio access Need to have sheer violes or something over patio doors. Its either darkness with drawn curtains or windows without any privacy screening.
- Motta (9/5): Ottima posizione. Bella vista. Buona colazione - Del 1222 la struttura originaria. Ristrutturata molto bene ….

- Peter (10/5): Maryculter House is a beautiful, peaceful and quiet place to stay outside of Aberdeen. - Check-in service was quick and efficient.
The room was clean and comfortable and very well appointed.
The bathroom was spacious and the rain showerhead was very nice.
The dinner service was excellent.
The food was okay.
The private room was cozy and perfect for our party of 7.
The breakfast was delicious
The grounds of the property were stunning, peaceful and quiet.
I will definitely recommend to friends and family. Property suddenly lost power during dinner for just a few seconds and that resulted in the bill taking a VERY, VERY long time to get to us. We searched around several times for waitstaff, but no one was around to let us know what happened. We were in no rush at all so it was no big deal, but it would have helped if someone came in and at least gave us an update on the situation.
- Ana (10/5): - I loved the quiet evening walk by the idyllic river My stay was too short
- DAVID (7/5): Overall a lovely trip away to a lovely hotel - Staff were lovely and helpful.
Would stay again .
Had the best steak i had in a long time. Breakfast on the first morning was a bit off
Burnt toast and over done eggs , and a long wait.
Breakfast the second morning was a much much better. That saved me giving a bad review.
The corridor door next to our room 215 is a bit of a safety hazard as it open towards 215, my wife was locking the door and corridor door burst open as a guest pushed through it nearly hitting her.
- Olivier (8/5): Bon séjour au calme - L’emplacement au calme Buffet petit dejeuner
Des produits de qualité mais pas de produits chauds : oeufs, bacon …
- Nicholas (10/5): On a business trip with work, I'd highly recommend this place to stay. - excellent venue, excellent food, staff were amazing
- Darren (8/5): Forgot how much I enjoy staying here - Templar bar Was difficult getting a receipt sent - but sorted in end
- Colin (10/5): Calm and pleasant luxurious accommodation within easy accessible location near Aberdeen - Wonderful staff and hotel location and ambiance. Very relaxing location by the river and shrouded in history. The hotel itself is lovely and well maintained. The staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was great, extensive menu with attentive service. All was good, and nothing was disappointing.
- Iain (10/5): -
- Ian_O (10/5): Maryculter hotel - The Hotel called me prior to stay to ask if I wanted to make a dinner reservation. Cynics would say of course they would, they want your business. No the restaurant was busy and they wanted to ensure you had a chance of a meal at the end of a busy day. The Hotel also offered a go green gift. If you didn't want your room cleaning every day they gave an incentive to those who took it up ( it wasn't a lot, a drink from the bar) Nothing
- Agita (9/5): Comfy beds, quiet place. - Location in country is perfect! Breakfst was poor and if you order second dish than you need to pay 12£ for that! And that was not written! Only when we checked out they give us the bill.
- Sally (8/5): Good hotel in beautiful surroundings. I would recommend this hotel. - Dinner was good and reasonably priced. Room and bathroom were comfortable, modern and nicely decorated. Lovely surroundings. Very slow breakfast service. Staff lack a bit of professional polish, but were pleasant and friendly.
- Nicolas (6/5): -
- May (9/5): - Fabulous room, very comfortable bed. Slept like a log, so peaceful. Granola at breakfast was poor quality.
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional Stay - The location is idyllic, what an absolutely beautiful setting. When you mix that with exceptional customer service, beautiful food, stunning rooms and a building filled with history, then this is nothing short of 5-stars!
- Clemente (10/5): Genial lugar con un fantástico enterno - La localización es absolutamente preciosa. Las habitaciones son bastante grandes y cómodas
- chris (10/5): - Lovely staff, beautiful location
- Yvonne (10/5): Would highly recommend. -

- Graeme (10/5): Lovely old-charm hotel with nice staff and good parking. Great value. - excellent value and nice feel to the hotel. Staff lovely and attentive, and food quality was good too. I couldn't fault the place and they were very flexible when I extended my stay by a couple of days. The weather
- Vicki (10/5): My Scotland journey - Location mostly. The grounds and room all lovely. The History Story of the site and location.
- Andreas (9/5): Toller Aufenthalt - Super, nettes Personal, leckeres Essen und Frühstück, schönes Ambiente und tolle Zimmer Nichts
- John (9/5): -
- Elzbieta (10/5): Excellent - Excellent
- Iona (10/5): - Perfect room for bringing a dog. Lovely walks straight out the door.
- Ian (10/5): A Lovely Hotel - Amazing location. Fantastic customer service and wonderful Breakfast. A great peaceful place to stay when visiting Aberdeen
- Pete (9/5): - Good combo of the settings, the premises and the food. Breakfast tea being served from a flask.
- Angela (5/5): -
- Stephen (9/5): Fantastic venue…can’t wait to return 😍 - The sort of country house hotel i love to stay in…intimate, welcoming…and on the banks of the River Don Nothing
- Gerri (10/5): - The house OSS beautiful and rich in history. The beds were hard as wood planks, difficult to sleep.
- Cinzia (8/5): - Il fiume che scorre accanto e la scenografia templare. Mary 's chapel un pochino incolta ed abbandonata .
Meriterebbe più cura.

- Tanja (9/5): Very nice Scottish Hotel in the countryside -
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Cosy and relaxing place. The scotish room interior with bed, curtains and view from our room.Clean toilet and bath with the big white fluffy towels. I wanted to buy the liquid shower soaps they provided but the receptionist did'nt know they were for sale. The big bed was so good to sleep. There's a fridge in the room. We wish we had more days to explore the area outside. My dinner. Although the fish fillet was fantastic good and tasty, the fixings and sidings were too salty. It started with butter squash soup of the day which was also very good but quite salty. My lips felt like inflammed for a day. Or else, we also had a wonderful sumptous full scotish breakfast with black pudding, haggis and more included in our room booking.
- Barbara (10/5): This hotel is ideal for travellers seeking a Scottish country hotel experience, including dining. - The pleasant rooms and the Great Hall. The fireplaces were not lit despite the cold.
- Colin (10/5): Above expectation - From arrival, the staff made us very welcome, and nothing appeared to be too much trouble. The rooms were wonderful, well appointed and with all facilities one would wish for. There was a welcoming, helpful and happy atmosphere throughout our time there, with a delicious birthday suprise served at the wonderful breakfast.
The hotel, including the 700 year old parts of the building, are well maintained and sympathetically extended to provide very comfortable accommodation, and the river-side location is beautiful.
Will definately return :-) Having to leave!
- Paul (10/5): Ideal. Brilliant staff - Looked old on arrival but can honestly say an amazing refurbishment of the property . I cannot fault the decor and feeling of the hotel Nothing
- Ronald (10/5): Would return again which says it all! - Excellent location overlooking the river Eating in the great hall not well thought through, not practical for eating as seats and tables at incorrect height
- William (8/5): Overall, not a bad stay. - The hotel has a relaxing atmosphere.
Found the staff great, but seemed very flustered and unable to cope at breakfast ? Breakfast: very slow to arrive, had to ask staff when it would be made available ! Breakfast staff seemed very fustered and unable to cope, the hotel was not full.
Tv did not work, unable to get any stations.
Wifi, didnt exist !
- Jennifer (7/5): Pretty surroundings - Lovely surroundings, very quiet. Unfortunately they seemed to have a major issue with the biomass and there was no hot water in the hotel in the morning, which meant no/freezing cold showers.
- Angela (9/5): Wonderful stay. - The location and staff were fabulous No chicken option on the menu.
- Sandra (10/5): An excellent 2 night stay - The hot breakfast selection was excellent and we also had dinner on both nights we were there. We had a lovely room with a huge modern walk in shower. There was a lovely view over the river to the golf course. The staff were fabulous. There was an error with the bill. Luckily, it was rectified after we got home.
- Elsie (10/5): - Beautiful area of river dee, quiet and peaceful. Accommodation was clean and luxurious. Attended wedding there, food was excellent and staff were welcoming and friendly Would have liked tea and coffee for in rooms, especially when newly awake early in morning
- Sandra (10/5): Beautiful friendly hotel delicious food would recommend a visit - Location was beautiful, breakfast was excellent staff helpful and courteous Wooden bed squeaked every time you moved on the bed (probably could be doing with tightening the frame) mattress was far too hard
- Ian (9/5): Superb location, comfortable rooms, friendly staff and wonderful ambience. - The location is great by the river Dee. It’s quiet and refined. Our bedroom was large and comfortable. The food was tasty and a very good breakfast menu. The staff are polite and friendly. It’s a dog friendly hotel and we didn’t expect them to be allowed in the restaurant but there are not many areas they are allowed. There is no hotel information in the rooms. The bar area was cold and quite small.
- Steven (7/5): Great hotel but, - Lovely hotel, good parking and very clean. Room was a good size and well equipped. Little town up the road with coop a few take outs and a couple of pubs. Would stay again. The person who checked us in needs to work on their manners. I was asked for a card to take the details from incase of damage to the room or incase we ordered food and drink so it could be charged.
Firstly the risk of damage to the room I'm putting this down to being in work clothes which is discrimination.
Secondly to pay for food and drink. Due to the receptionist rudeness there was no way we were eating or drinking there and if we did then card details should have been taken at that point.
And before you reply and say it is hotel policy the two ladies who checked in before us, both very well spoken and well dressed were not asked for their card details. I raised this with the receptionist who then very abruptly lied to me and claimed they had been. So when I saw them later and asked them myself they told me they had not been asked for card details.
Maybe if I was in my suit the attitude I got would of been different who knows. I hope they were just having an off day because if not this receptionist will lose your company future business with a discrimatory attitude towards workmen who are paying the same for their rooms as well to do tourists.
- Georgina (10/5): - Fabulous property and location. Stunning scenery and brilliant food.
- Pauline (8/5): - Un hôtel historique plein de charme
Personnel agréable
Chambre confortable
- Romy (8/5): -
- Alastair (9/5): Enjoyed the accommodation and breakfasts but our stay was marred - lack of choice on Dinner Menu - We enjoyed a comfortable but small room. Breakfasts were really good and enjoyable.
However we were really embarrassed with the lack of choice on the Dinner Menu. We had invited two friends who were celebrating their Diamond Wedding. Duck and Hake are not everyone's ideal dish. We were reduced to having a burger each and we apologised to our friends for such a poor menu. There was no choice of beef, pork or lamb which we really expected at Maryculter House Hotel see above
- Suzanne (8/5): - The hotel is beautiful and the staff were all really helpful. My room was lovely and the breakfast was delicious, I would definitely stay here again. Only that the menu was a bit limited and for me, lacked salad, both as an option and as an accompaniment I.e. with the burger. Or vegetables on the other options. Just a minor complaint really though as the food was still very nice.
- Michelle (10/5): Wish we had stayed longer - Beautiful hotel very comfy beds
- Alison (8/5): Fantastic! - The food was lovely and the location was outstanding. To improve, the buffet breakfast area should be topped up regularly.
- Jamie (9/5): Lovely hotel with friendly staff in beautiful surroundings. - Lovely venue, nice clean rooms and well laid out. Bathroom was very modern and clean.
The bar was nice and the staff serving that night were very friendly and polite. Make a good cocktail. Everything was very well priced across the board.
Excellent breakfasts. Lovely place to go for a walk along the banks of the Dee in the morning after breakfast.
- Joyce (9/5): Really enjoyed our stay. Would absolutely stay there again - Well appointed rooms. Amazing views and so dog friendly and accommodating. Room a bit cramped.
- James (8/5): - Nice room also dog friendly.Nice breakfast
- Ashleigh McKendrick (10/5): - Amazing hotel. Thanks for a lovely stay
- Kate (8/5): -
- Christine (8/5): We had a lovely time and would certainly return. - The breakfast was very good. We had dinner both nights at the hotel. The staff were very helpful and efficient. We enjoyed the location of the hotel. One of our main courses on second night was not particularly good. We did not complain at the time and maybe should have mentioned it. A shallot tart was presented with some salad leaves on top but looked rather lost on the plate and was consumed very quickly while partners main was much more substantial. Perhaps a recommendation of the dish potentially requiring sides would be helpful.
- Ramsay (9/5): Great destination to get to from the South and lovely setting by the River Dee - Good breakfast and nice room - lovely setting by the river. I was able to charge my car in the morning which was really good and I had forgotten my phone charger and the hotel let me borrow one to recharge which saved the day.
- Sue (10/5): -
- David (8/5): Excellent stay for a very well run and serviced wedding. Will try to come back on our own -
- Craig (7/5): -
- Claire (10/5): Excellent rooms are lovely staff are so kind friendly and welcoming - The history it’s immaculate rooms are Nothing I luv it
- Christina (10/5): Very romantic ,lovely stay - Breakfast lovely ,lovely spot by the window was abit confusing arriving in the dark to find the front entrance could do with better signage
- stephen (9/5): -
- Claire (10/5): - Absolutely love this place. Been there twice now and will come again few times a year. Location, comfort, staff are lovely. Lighting is perfect, temperature perfect, comfy bed beautiful rooms Can never get order right of vegan sausages. Mixed up with normal sausages twice.
- Lisa (10/5): -
- Tracy (9/5): - it was very pretty with a lovely countryside surround the restaurant prices compared with the price of the room
- Kath (10/5): -
- Laura (10/5): - Great hall, fires, good food Not the biggest portions
- Alan (9/5): I am already planning our next visit. - The dinner was excellent. Limited options but the quality was superb.
The Junior suit on the ground floor was a fantastic size especially with a dog, patio doors straight onto the lawn and river.
Big round table and chairs to have room service breakfast at.
Bath and separate shower were great. The only downside, and it's very minor, but the room is supplied with a cafetière, but no ground coffee to use it with. Just the usual instant coffee sachets and tea bags. Possibly we could have asked at reception for some, but we brought our own cause I like my coffee!
The bar was part of the restaurant so we were not allowed to bring our dog in, but there is a fantastic lounge which feels like you're in a medieval castle hall that we could take our drinks and dog into.
- Craig (9/5): Brilliant! - The accommodation, the service, the staff, the ambience was all superb. So indeed was the food. I am a Coeliac and there were very good GF options for both Dinner and Breakfast which is not always the case so very much appreciated.
One small mention should be made regarding the Dinner Menu.
For a very famous Scottish hotel, I was surprised to see no quintessentially 'Scottish' dishes on the Dinner Menu. It may have been just on that day, but although the food we enjoyed was superbly cooked, it was very International and there was nothing other than Strathdon Blue to tie the food to the Highlands - and Blue Cheese is not universally appreciated. A Scottish dessert, a soup, a main course - all strangely lacking. Not even smoked salmon. Haggis was mentioned in the bar snacks but personally I felt that the Hotel let's itself down by not offering Scottish options. Perhaps next time?
- Lucas (10/5): -
- Shania (10/5): Fantastic - Staff are fantastic and food and location is lovely Broken patio door ..
- john (8/5): -
- Martin (9/5): -
- durrant (10/5): - Beautiful house on the river, with lovely views.
Very friendly, helpful staff. The choice of non meat/ fish options at breakfast and dinner. Even vegan wine on the wine list! Our evening meal was one of the best meals we've had in a long while. Fresh, interesting and well presented. Warm and cosy decor. Easy to find and park. The dog bed in our room was thoughtful. We would recommend this hotel in a heartbeat. Personally, I didn't feel the quality of the mattress and pillows matched the other qualities of the hotel.
- Stephen (10/5): -
- Malcolm (10/5): Fabulous stay in splendid setting - Fabulous location, very historic and interesting, great room with river view, excellent breakfasts and dinners.
- Malcolm (10/5): Fabulous stay - Excellent location with deeply historic and interesting environment with a spectacularly historic building. Our room overlooked the river with splendid quiet views. Breakfasts and dinners were marvellous.
Very recommended !!
