- Hildegard (10/5): -
- Daniela (10/5): Accogliente - Ingresso cucina con stanzina bagno e doccia. Camera da letto al piano superiore. Tutto molto accogliente e ben organizzato.
- Javier (10/5): -
- roxane (9/5): -
- Nadja Egidie (10/5): really good - nice owners, clean room, nice beds and very cute vibes a little lack of space for clothes
- Masahiko Yoshioka (10/5): - The place was very traditional and so comfortable.
- Daniel (9/5): Authentic place and owners - It really had this personal touch that you could feel from the entrance. The room was clean and gave us a traditional feeling from Japan. The beds were also very comfortable. In terms of location, it’s located close to the train station and from many delicious restaurants.
The owners gave us plenty of recommendations, even in Osaka. Trust them The only thing is that during winter, outside of the room becomes quite cold and going to the bathroom was not always pleasant. Nothing unbearable though.
- Ecem (9/5): -
- Maryanne (9/5): - This is labeled as a hostel and is relatively inexpensive, but felt more like staying in a traditional Japanese townhouse. The tatami mat room was spacious and private. I found the futons to be comfortable and the shower was nice. The place also had heating and cooling that was easy to set ourselves. It would have been nice to have more shelves in the bathroom.
- Irene (8/5): -
- Thi Hoa Vy (9/5): - I luv the most is the atmosphere of the ryokan, the host was helpful . The room for 3 people is large and have the 2 seperate space, one fof sleep and one for dine or chating. We have short but relax time here check in time at 4 pm and check out time 10am . Its normal in Japan but it's truly short time for staying
- Yana (10/5): - Very friendly host, he advised to visit Koya-san and it was wonderful trip :)
It was our first sleeping on Futons and they were very comfortable. It was a bit cold in the bedroom, but air condition helped with this.
- Maely (7/5): - La chambre était spacieuse, salle de bain rénovée. Lit confortable, proche d’une station JR
Personnel agréable
- Yuan chi (8/5): -
- v_brth (10/5): -
- Carniani (9/5): - Super gently reception staff
Very comfortable footon Bathroom and sink (so strict)
- Nadine (7/5): Quirky, clean and good communication - It’s quirky. Clean and access to the kitchen. Not a great location.
Didn’t really look like the picture
- Julia Alexandra (10/5): -
- Shinji (10/5): - I’ve stayed at many hostels in Kyoto over the years, and while it wouldn’t be fair to compare them with luxury hotels, the cost performance here is simply unbeatable. Everything—from the cleanliness and convenient location to the host’s warm personality—was the best I’ve experienced. For my trip to Kyoto next year, I won’t even consider staying anywhere else!
- Joseph (8/5): Nice traditional hostel with great sized rooms - The rooms were beautiful, very traditional and the futon beds were very comfortable (if you like a firm mattress) - the rooms themselves are a large size and the shower was very nice. The doors off the balcony were locked but the view of the garden was lovely. It's a pretty good location, a bus stop is just outside and theres a train station a 5-10min walk away which is one stop from Kyoto station, it is also the same line that you use to go to Arashiyama. The laundry facilities were good, detergent is free - there was no drier however. The staff were okay, it's important to note they're not at the desk from 10am to 4pm so if you don't tell them when you expect to arrive no one will be there to check you in and they will ask you to wait until 4pm even just to drop your luggage.
- Melanie (8/5): -
- Raphael (10/5): - Qualité des équipements
Originalité de la chambre
- Benedetta (9/5): - The room was clean, we had the traditional one with garden view, so nice!
- Klavdiia (10/5): It was a good stay, spacious, clean and comfortable place with good location and authentic vibes - It was spacious and clean, the bed was comfortable, good shower and nice tea space in a separate room Late check in, not all of the stuff was friendly
They were ok but in comparison with others it was noticeable
- Ruturaj (9/5): -
- KEYUE (10/5): - great, the room is what I want, good style, convenient transportation and good landlord, help us move luggage and recommend restaurant
- Therese Reimer (8/5): -
- Smith (3/5): Poor - If you wanted an historical experience of what it would have been like to have lived in a room from the shogun period this would be the place to stay. Location was a 30-to-60-minu commute to the Kyoto temples and shrines. Had to take buses and trains to get them.
- Paige (9/5): A great place to relax after a long day of traveling, and staff were happy to try and speak English. - I had a gorgeous room with a great surrounding area. Plenty of places to explore, and my accommodation was super comfy and just what I needed. I was thinking the garden area would be a little more accessible, but that did not really bother me.
- Diana (10/5): Exceptional - Nice ubication, the room was clean, spacious and traditional. And the hosts were nice, loved it. Everything was good
- Dhruven (10/5): Lovely Japanese style home - Beautiful japaneae style home with an amazing room, and a private garden. We stayed here for a night and felt very comfortable. Beds were very nice and had a peaceful night of sleep. It is also very close to the bus stop and convenience store. Highly recommended
- Paulina (8/5): Very good - The decoration is amazing!
Everything Is order and clean! The sink in the toilet was really small, was difficult even wash your face or teeth.
- Siew (10/5): Work and travel in comfort - The spaces are spacious and comfortable, especially the ground floor, which allows us to have our own areas to work and rest. It's suitable for those who enjoy working and travelling at the same time, without disturbing their group mates.
Of course, the staff are helpful. They provided plenty of information on transportation and additional suggestions during our trip, which helped us save time and discover great local food. The market at Toji Temple, in particular, allowed us to experience more of the local cuisine and culture. Not to say dislike, just find the ground floor grader is purely decoration. You can't actually use the spaces.
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Valtteri (8/5): Stayed only one night but the staff was friendly and the place was calm and clean. I slept great! -
- Lucy (10/5): Home from home - We had the best time. We've stayed in all kinds of accommodation in our trip from 5* to capsule hotels and honestly this little house was our favourite.
The staff are incredible and will do anything for you.
The rooms and facilities are so clean.
There is a washing machine free of charge on site (was such a bonus!)
There was A/C and a dehumidifier/ air purifier in our room.
Everyone is encouraged to be respectful in the hostel so there is no loud noises before 8 or after 10pm.
It is a home from home and I will remember it forever, maybe one day I will return.
- Nicolaas (8/5): Very good -
- Agata (8/5): Cute and spacious - It was a really nice place. The staff was very helpful, made us feel right at home. It was very clean, nice and private. We had our own shower room and toilet. It was very very spacious, much bigger than usual rooms for 4 people. The futon were comfy and whole space was very cute.
It got cold at night because of the thin walls, so unless you have heating on all day (which we didn’t), you’re arriving to a cold space, needs some time to heat up. But it wasn’t a big problem for us.
Location was good, although a bit of a walk to JR and not that much around. A quiet neighbourhood. Nice access to Kinkakuji and Arashiyama, but for Gion it’s a bit of a journey. Overall we loved our stay and it’s great to experience a traditional ryokan! Would definitely stay there again
- Lucy (9/5): Travelling through time - The property was very charming. It was like going to someone’s home, travelling in time. Very close to the station and to restaurants and 7 eleven. It was great over all.
- Brighid (10/5): Great location and comfortably traditional - Host was very helpful, we accidentally messed up the dates of our stay and he made up a temporary room for us. So kind and helpful. The place is so cool looking, feels very traditional. Loved my stay here
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennifer (10/5): I would stay again when I am in Japan - The room, I like the set up and I love the garden view from our room. The host was very helpful..the restaurant he recommended was good. We were informed of the house rules upon check in. I would suggested they install lights in the garden so that people will still be able to appreciate the beautiful garden see it at night. Thank you, we enjoy pur stay and had a good night sleep. None
- Catalina (9/5): Superb -
- Lejla (9/5): Superb -
- Jessica (8/5): Unique Traditional Stay - enjoyed the traditional and unique feel. very cozy and felt secure and safe. beds were comfortable too. there were small subtle stains on the sheets and stains on the walls but it wasnt a big deal, it seems like an older place. bathroom is a bit awkward to do any skin care or shaving in but they provide additional mirrors and areas to do that in.
- Simran (10/5): Definitely recommend staying here! - The owners were amazing! They gave great suggestions on good food around the area and activities to do. So friendly and they decorated the lobby so homely. Definitely recommend staying, perfect size for two people. Location was a bit far, had to get the train minimum 30 mins away
- Romain (7/5): Good - The room is spacious, traditional and clean. There was everything we need, at a satisfying level, but nothing amazing.
There is everything to cook but no table to eat. Kitchen was dusty and a bit messy
- Andrea (8/5): Super stay, super Host with very good tips 900 - The host was super friendly and kind. He offered ideas of were to go and tips of events or festivities celebrated by locals. The room was very clean and spacious. We really enjoyed our stay there. We selected the room with view to the garden and even though we did it wasnt the view advertised. The garden was beautiful but in order to see it u had to opem up a little window...if u do, be prapered for Mosquitos. So at the end we had to keep it closed and couldnt enjoy the view of the garden.
- Noa (8/5): Very good -
- Kylar (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laura (8/5): Very good - Very nice and helpful hosts.
Room was big. Price was good to have a japanese style experience.
Everything was clean. It smelled a little bit like cat - I want to point out that we didn’t see one and there was no hair anywhere, but I guess the smell came through the vents.
Tall people have to be careful as the house is old and the ceilings are a little low.
- Nicola (9/5): A lovely traditional room. Very good value and the host is very helpful. - The traditional room was lovely. The host was very helpful with information from when I first made the booking and made changes for me. The studio room for one night was a little room on the ground floor but the host helped me to have that room when I made changes to.
- Botez (6/5): Very expensive, nothing special - The room was big, on the upper floor and the bathroom was separate down the stairs, there was a fridge, AC, dehumidifier and a water dispenser for drinking in the lobby. I will never understand the requested price of 100eur a night for this accomodation. I guess the experience in the shared rooms is nicer? And maybe the price is a lot cheaper? No idea. The inner garden is…not that impressive as you cannot have your window opened due to hot weather and mosquitos. Felt dissapointed of the price for the quality.
- Valentina (10/5): Feels like home - The guys running the hotel are just great! The room was one of the biggest we had in Japan. So lovely to stay with them for 5 days and very easy to reach from Kyoto station
- Tarek (8/5): well-suited base to explore Kyoto and the surrounding area - A super quiet and comfy accommodation, well-situated just a 2-minute walk from the train station with several bus stops nearby. Our hosts were incredibly kind and helpful, providing us with a wealth of information to make the most of our vacation. As an added bonus, the Kyoto Railway Museum is only a 2-minute walk away.
- Cristina (7/5): Good -
- Travellermum (10/5): Lovely ryokan experience. - The hostel is a short walk from the train station and easy to get to.
The room looked exactly like the photos with a lovely view of the little garden. Air conditioning was great especially as it was a heatwave during our stay. Check in and out was easy. The beds were super comfortable. Nothing! Everything was lovely!
- Jillian (7/5): Cool experience - Great experience to stay in a traditional Japanese style room Check in is quite late (4pm) compared to other hotels and with check out being at 10am it’s probably not worth it if only staying for one night like we were.
Great location to the train station but further away from restaurants and night life.
- L.even (9/5): Matching our expectation! - It is a very Japanese hotel. The hotel owner is a nice guy and he was very friendly to introduce the hotel to us. The hotel was old but still very quiet. The washroom was small but enough to use.
- Justine (9/5): Fantastic place to stay, one little issue - Absolutely lovely traditional room, kept clean. Staff were lovely and the reception area- I loved it- so quirky! The room had a very strong smell, it was the futon- don't think it had been aired for a while. If it was just a bit musty, I would completely understand, but it was overpowering. We tried using fabreeze and circulating the air, but we couldn't shift it. Otherwise the stay was perfect, would have given it 10 if not for this.
- Erika (10/5): Everything you need ..enjoyable polite and friendly - Really cool ..loved having our own en-suite, beds were great too
- Vincent (8/5): Very good - Stylish
Great beds and amenities A bit far from the city center
No free tea/coffee
- Luca (8/5): Very good -
- Yasmin (8/5): Overall a good place to stay in - The room is very spacious, with two sections one for the sleeping area and one for the traditional Japanese tea table. The futon bed was comfortable. The location is well connected to the train station and bus station, with a seven eleven nearby. The toilet and shower area are in a separate place. Toilet space is very small with a tiny sink making it difficult to use it.
Check-in time is a bit late 16 pm and the check-out is quite early at 10 am,
- Chung (10/5): Exceptional - Traditional Japanese style stay, I mean it's very rarely chance to experience such place, especially in a fair price and deal, the receptionist are also nice.
- Eugene (8/5): Very good - Traditional ryokan interior for an authentic Japanese stay. Futon mattress was comfortable Building is 100 years old and shows its age
- Nikol (10/5): Lovely traditional stay in Kyoto - Truly a traditional Japanese style experience! Sleeping on the futons was actually comfier that we imagined. The room was spacious and clean. The hosts were very nice and welcoming, they gave us good local restaurant recommendations and kept our luggage before checkin and after checkout. Area is quiet and safe. The sink in the room is extremely small and quite uncomfortable. While the hostel is close to the Kyoto station, it is a bit further away from the main attractions in the centre like the Nishiki market etc and you need to get a bus to get there which comes quite infrequently and can therefore be a bit inconvenient.
- Larissa (8/5): Very good - We had a private room which was very comfortable and warm. Staff were super helpful and location was good for the price and perfect for getting around. The lobby looked a bit like a junk shop and was initially quite off putting. But don't let this put you off.
- Joanna-marie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Armin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lila (9/5): It’s a charming ryokan, with spacious rooms, great staff service in a quiet neighborhood far from the tourist sites but - Spacious traditional rooms that are well maintained. We were asked to be quiet esp at night since the walls were thin, which I didn’t mind so we had a quiet stay. Location is near bus stops, although a bit of a walk (7-10min) to the nearest train station. And the staff service was great - even if we had a hard time communicating in English, he was very helpful and accommodating. Only small dislike, the bathroom was a bit cold and the sink was small
- Olivial1010 (10/5): Exceptional - The room was well arranged and spacious. The beds were exceptionally comfortable. Close to a JR station with easy access to activities in and around Kyoto.
- Linda (8/5): Very good -
