- peterp1010Vienna (2/5): Do not trust ! - Do not trust!
We had made a reservation on hotels.com for four nights just before the pandemic struck. Then the lodge in a very friendly way pleaded with us to change the reservation into a voucher and not demand repayment from hotels.com. This we did. After making one more attempt to rebook our stay - which again had to be cancelled due to Covid travel restrictions - the lodge refused to answer our e-mails.
Good bye EUR 1.300!
We travel a lot and all our reservations due to Covid were later honored - from South Africa to the US to Brasil. I would have never imagined that New Zealanders would not honor their (voucher)-promise. We went wrong.
- craigk136 (10/5): Wonderful - We stayed at Te Whau Lodge as a mini-break from the kids for two nights. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the lodge. The hospitality was excellent, food amazing, views astounding and overall a great experience. Would highly recommend.
- SimonDennis88 (10/5): Friendliest hosts in hospitality - The room, service, views, location, and overall experience at Te Whau Lodge combined to make our trip the best we've ever had. What a place, the four-course breakfast every morning is brilliant, and the service from the friendly hosts (who are very interesting to chat to, and are clearly born to be in the industry - wonderful people) made our honeymoon unforgettable. This is absolutely a place we're going to come back to with fond memories, and is one of the best places to visit on Waiheke.
- greevz (10/5): Outstanding! - Our stay was great! It was a bit of a last minute "honeymoon" reservation post wedding, so we didn't really know what to expect. Everything ran so smoothly. The host picked us up from the ferry terminal, and drove us to the accommodation. The food was fabulous! Both a four course dinner the night we arrived, and a four course breakfast the next morning! We were even able to rent a car from the host for the time we were staying there, and they gave us beach chairs, and towels. Highly highly recommend staying here!
- Ricksribsreviews (10/5): My Honeymoon at Te Whau Lodge - Well, what can one say when one is already on a high from their wedding?
I can tell you, Chris and Tara kept the momentum going and gave us an unbelievable stay to remember and added to our already blessed wedding journey.
Everything was made so easy, from the friendly greeting at the Wharf, right through to the 4 course dinner, massages, extatic views and that was only the 1st night there.
You wake up on a ridge over looking Kennedys point and the the expanse of bays that are second to none.
My wife and I had the Honeymoon package which had included a winery tour, a must if you are on the island. Just one of the many experiences the lodge has for their visitors and it was just amazing, I'll review that separately.
The lodge is nestled high on the ridge and offers spectacular views. It's peaceful and was exactly what my new wife and I needed to just listen to each other and breathe after all the hustle and bustle of the wedding festivities.
The rooms were fantastic, rustic and very welcoming. The beds were comfy and you were able to seclude yourself away from any of the other visitors there. You have your own deck where you could curl up and read, have a coffee or wine and enjoy some relaxation.
All in all, the hosts made you feel like you were the most important people in the world, absolutely friendly funny banter, informative and extremely helpful with anything that you wanted.
The in-house classically trained Chef was such a delight to have. The experience that my new wife and I had is such a fantastic memory that we will share as our 1st big memory as a married couple. As food lovers we have tried many culinary cuisines and this did not disappoint. From freshly seared scallops, duck and lamb to follow, it was just an absolute treat.
You felt like you were at home, being waited on and pampered, right down to the friendly dog, Gary, being there to pat and be greated in the morning by.
If you're looking for a place to stay that offers an easy, no fuss stress free holiday whilst being in a beautiful setting with wonderful vistas and friendly people around then choose Te Whau Lodge. We will definitely return 100 percent.
A massive thank you to Chris and Tara.

- Travellingdocter (10/5): home away from home - stunning location and even better hosts.
the hosts were very helpful in dealing with our dietary requirements and also being available at all times
quiet location - ideal for some serious R&R
Breakfast was great
- Holly (10/5): - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - our hosts were lovely and set up a beautiful breakfast. The accommodation itself was also beautiful and the views were stunning. We will definitely be returning at some point and this time we will book their private dining dinner in advance :)
- Samantha (10/5): - We had 3 wonderful nights at Te Whau Lodge to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. From meeting us at the ferry terminal at Waiheki Island to dropping us back 4 days later, Chris & Teara were delightful. Our
room was spacious yet private with lovely ammenities, breathtaking views and was both spotless & comfortable. We enjoyed a delicious anniversary dinner, nightly canapes & daily 4 course breakfasts. Guests can be as sociable or not with the few other guests and Chris & Teara are tremendously flexible hosts. Although a Luxury property it is relaxed and unpretentious. Our stay was an indulgance for us both and we were not disapointed. Aside from the promised inclusions in our tarrif, there were lots of unexpected personal extras that made it even more special. Overall the stay exceeded any expectations and we would definately return to Te Whau Lodge.
- Y1664WUdavidw (10/5): Amazing in every way..... - My wife and myself had the pleasure of staying at Te Whau Lodge for 2 nights. Chris and Teara were fabulous hosts in every aspect. The food was exquisite with 4 course breakfast on both mornings and a four course 'custom designed'dinner on the first night Little touches like the post dinner treats in the room make the difference between a good stay and a great stay. Fantastic views from every room made even better with the binoculars in the room. Highly recommend in every way.
- PhillipP (10/5): Wow! - For me, Te Waugh Lodge is all about the stunning views! From our room, from the balcony, from the dining area - absolutely stunning and faultless! Of course I wouldn’t want that to take away from the fantastic hospitality we received. We had a very warm welcome on arrival and were looked after throughout our stay.
Our hosts were warm, friendly and helpful with anything we needed. They made dining recommendations and great conversation.
Our room was extremely comfortable and luxuriously appointed. Did I mention the view? From the bed, from the balcony...
We had a very comfortable bed and lovely treats waiting for us on arrival. The shower/wash room was well equipped and luxury amenities were provided.
We enjoyed evening canapés at the lodge before heading out. The following morning we were treated to a wonderful breakfast before we sadly had to depart.
I cannot recommend the lodge enough and is high on our list of places to return to when we make it back to New Zealand.
- whumea (10/5): Waiheke Wonderful - Chris and Teara are the new Managers of this eclectic Lodge, with Teara being an extraordinary Chef.
This Canadian couple have vast experience in hospitality so our experience was flawless, everything was perfect, the accommodation, massages, views, transport, and most of all, the gorgeous food.
Thanks guys, from Naomi and Richard
- kiwiholiday (10/5): Perfect spot to celebrate a special birthday - Chris was there to greet us as soon as our ferry arrived. He then drove us to
Te Whau Lodge which probably has the best views in Waiheke! Teana, Chris's wife came out to greet us also and immediately we felt welcome and relaxed. Teana cooked us an amazing meal on our first evening where we enjoyed the company of two other couples who were also staying there. We were served local wines which went down a treat.
The breakfasts were legendary - 4 courses! and Chris would churn out the coffees from the espresso machine which were perfect.
I cannot praise our hosts enough - it was like they were born for the role. We will most certainly be back!
- Edwardsbrian (10/5): Amazing Hosts - We stay 3 days at Te Whau Lodge, views are out off this world. You can see shy city from the lounge and bedrooms. They made you feel welcome from the minute you arrived, to the time you lift. Food was amazing, wine was fantastic. They have local wines, yummy. The whole place is spotless inside and out.
It’s was so easy to catch the ferry over, and support local businesses in tough times. There knowledge and recommendations for local winery and restaurants were valuable.
Regards
Brian
- Darlowsinnz (10/5): The food and views were out of this world amazing - We were lucky enough to go to Te Whau lodge, where we were greeted with amazing hosts. Chris picked us up from the ferry terminal, and Teera cooked us the most exquisite 4 course dinner and breakfasts.
The rooms were equipped with everything we needed, and the view from our deck was breathtaking. I like the little binoculars in the room too!
We were very happy to have visited.
- LizziWhaley (10/5): Romantic Weekend for 2 - We had such a fabulous time here.
The weather was variable - as is Auckland in Winter but in both the Sunshine and the Rain the lodge and view was exceptional
We had a 4 course Chef cooked meal by the lodge on the first night, it was nothing short of amazing. And so was the host chat! Whilst only momentary not to interrupt our evening we were certainly entertained with some great stories and fantastic service.
The rooms were lovely - the view unmatched.
We had the use of a vehicle which was great for our own site seeing.
Highly recommended!
- Markiemarknz (10/5): What a place! - A stunning venue, with stunning hosts.
Superbly situated, high end fit-out and ammenities. The hosts were delightful and the food - wow, wow, wow. Not to mention the wine!
Already looking forward to a return visit....
- wellywood (10/5): Great weekend - Had an excellent stay at Te Whau. Just the right place to get away for a while and explore Waiheke . From the moment we booked Chris took care of us , making sure we had everything we needed. The breakfasts and dinner we amazing.
- thoughtsrthings (10/5): Sensational - Had the pleasure of spending our 25 anniversary with the family at Te Whau Lodge and it was truly incredible from start to finish - thank you Chris and Teara for making our time so special. The breakfast and dinner was amazing and compliments to chef Teara - we cannot wait until you have a full time restaurant at the lodge so we can enjoy more of your cooking! Thank you we will be back !!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice to stay with all covid 19 precautions. They are following who guidelines. Rooms are also sanitized.
- lauren_lbt (10/5): A lovely place to rest and enjoy fabulous cooking - We took the family to Te Whau lodge for our wedding anniversary. The lodge is located in a quiet place with stunning views of the Hauraki gulf and Waiheke itself. We had a fantastic experience with comfortable bedrooms, a cosy lounge and dinner room, and the food and wine were excellent. Thank you Chris and Teara for being such lovely hosts, with a special mention to Teara's amazing cuisine!
- KatieS12345678 (10/5): The perfect getaway - My mum and I had a wonderful girls weekend at Te Whau Lodge. We booked the two night "relax and recharge" package which included a delicious three-course dinner, four-course breakfasts, transport to and from the ferry and bubbles on arrival. The Lodge organised massages for us and went the extra mile by driving us around the island to a walking spot. It's a great spot for both a summer and winter getaway as you can can sit out on the deck and enjoy the magnificent views on a warm day but then also snuggle up inside with a book and glass of port by the Lodge's fireplace in winter (as we did). Chris and Teara were lovely hosts and made us feel very welcome. We can't recommend the Lodge enough!
- 931DavidT931 (10/5): Great spot to escape the rat race! - We had a great escape to Te Whau Lodge, on a wet and windy weekend post lock down. The lodge is an amazing spot with great views back towards the city and over Kennedy point harbour.
The warm greeting and amazing food were just what we needed! We rented a car directly from the lodge which was handy to explore the island and after a couple of adventures around the island returned for an amazing 3 course dinner! All the meals were great, and Chris our host was always on hand to help out!
This is a great spot, which we will definitely be back to visit soon!
- maccmania (10/5): One of the best hotels I've ever stayed at - What's not to love. The views from this place are epic, the fireplaces cozy, and the port excellent. However, what really makes this place are the two people running it. They are some of the best humans I've ever met, plus the breakfasts and dinners are just unbelievable. Seriously... home-made croissants, muesli, omelets and more!
- Rhianon&Craig (10/5): - We absolutely loved this property, the location and the staff where amazing. Definitely recommend this lodge to anyone.
- Ernest (10/5): 5 Star Experience - Absolutely the best stay we have ever had in any resort or hotel. The hospitality, the views, the breakfast... I could go on and on about this Lodge. It is absolutely a five star stay. I can officially say out of our entire visit in New Zealand from the North to the South of this country this was still the very best place we stayed!
- Carol (10/5): - The lodge is exactly shown as in the photos - the views from the balcony is amazing, we love watching the sunset from our room. Rob and Marg were amazing hosts, who laid out lovely breakfast and turn down service everyday. We had a lovely stay on at the lodge.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fantastic place and so relaxing, food is great in the morning and hosts charming.
If Te Whau offered dinner it would be my go to place permanently as its beautiful
- Stennis (10/5): - Outstanding across every aspect. would stay again without issue.
- ScottPeoples (10/5): - Amazing place and great people. Thanks so much for a great stay and the best breakfasts and hospitality!
- Timothy (10/5): A slice of Perfection! - My wife and I stayed here after doing quite a bit of research on places to visit on the north island. The area is like Napa Valley on a perfect island. We had the opportunity to meet the owner during our stay and really enjoyed the hospitality of the entire team. The views are wonderful, breakfast is fantastic, and for people not from the area they go up and above to help you plan your day and recommend places to visit and see. We absolutely will come back to visit on our next trip to New Zealand!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Our hosts, Marg and Rob, were exemplary - personable, professional and very attentive to our needs. Delicious canapes with a glass of wine each night, refreshingly-healthy breakfasts and beautifully comfortable rooms and bed - what more could you need?? A view - they've got that covered too - perfect for watching the magical sunsets. We'll definitely return.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very cute small hotel on top of the island with amazing views from all rooms
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Stunning location. Social aspect of the aperitif and breakfast.
- Dan (10/5): - Fabulous modern facilities, amazing views & the hosts are just amazing, naturally engaging & warm friendly people, very knowledgeable about the island & always available to assist however required & able to drive guests around or organize quality local drivers, very handy on an island full of great vineyard & dining options.
What a fabulous time we had!
- Gordon (10/5): Amazing Te Whau! - What an amazing place! We had a great time with the owners at Te Whau, lovely spot, great food and hospitality! For people who don’t know the island it is a distance from the main town, so you may need transport on the island but everything about this place is magic! Owners attention to detail and little touches made the whole stay amazing!
- Laurie (10/5): - Wonderful!!! Breakfast was unbelievable. View was awesome! Marg is the best hostess!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful views and fabulous breakfasts. A bit pricey but worth it.
- Loretta (10/5): - It’s fabulous! Fantastic location with ever changing views. The owners r lovely and engaging. Breakfast and evening canapés not to b missed. Plenty of restaurants within a short distance. Rent a car. It’s not hard driving on the left on the island. Will definitely return.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We came for a special occasion and enjoyed our stay. Beautiful views, quiet location and the other guests were good company at breakfast. We would stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A stunning location with every suite looking out over the water.
Owners take care to a new level with quality of food and wine. Room immaculate as well as longes.
Highly recommend
