Guest Reviews
- tim (6/5): - Clean and convenient. No TV. No tea making facilities
- BENJAMIN (8/5): - Location Live music was loud.
- alan (7/5): -
- Dr.J (5/5): ロケーショんの良い安宿 - ロケーションは良かった。 部屋にトイレやバスルームの無いのは、低料金だから納得するが、小さくてもいいのでせめて冷蔵庫くらいは欲しい。
- Denise (10/5): -
- Wilson (2/5): -
- NAT (7/5): -
- Kathleen (8/5): Very easy - Great location The stairs
- James (4/5): Dissapointed with rate:value ratio. Advertised room did not reflect received accommodation. - Location was good to my event venue and the room was tidy and clean. Staff were courteous and helpful. No A/C or TV in room - on check-in requested by staff to sign an acknowledgement of this. Luckily, being winter at the time of stay not having A/C was not as big an issue as it would be if we were in the middle of summer. Lack of these facilities was not identified in the listing on booking.com - I felt this was deceiving.
The advertised King bed was a double. As I was staying alone I could adjust, but when expecting a King bed and receiving something less it was dissapointing. For the rate paid I could have chosen another hotel/motel that provided both A/C and a TV.
If staying on a weekend don't expect to get to sleep too early the music from the hotel was very loud.
- Graham (5/5): Not very good at all, I do like to sleep when I go away - The location was great but that's it I couldn't sleep because of a disco in the hotel and there was no TV or radio so now entertainment
- Peta (7/5): Cheap and Clean. GR - The Priority: Bed and being dark and quiet at bed 🛌 ⏰️ time!
I've eaten here before. The food is okay.
The 1 room with a shower and toilet would be the deluxe room which will cost you $30 plus. Use. The SHOWER ROOM....men's & women's, are clean, modern looking and offer privacy from the already quiet accommodation area. No KETTLE OR ACCESS TO Hot Water.
- Peta (7/5): -
- Craig (7/5): - Clean well positioned. Pub has great menu. (Food and drink. Good no frills accommodation.. No TV or fridge.
- Kimberley (10/5): -
- Sandra (8/5): The GR represented good value for money. Location suited me fine, with family living nearby. - A clean and tidy basic pub room.
The shared bathrooms had been recently renovated and were in excellent condition.
Upstairs guest lounge had been freshly painted and carpeted.
We had a family dinner in the dining room one evening -- meals were good and staff very friendly :) There were no tea-making facilities in the room, nor was there a communal kitchenette where house guests could make a cup of tea or coffee. The bar staff did kindly offer to make a coffee for me whenever the bar was open, but this wasn't very practical -- especially at 6am in the morning when I'd just woken up, was hanging out for a cup of tea, and was still in my PJs !! I solved the problem by buying my own kettle at Big W in Jesmond.
- Lee (9/5): -
- Capt Kanu (9/5): Good value for money - Worth the money Ventilation in rooms
- Peter (3/5): - I didn't realise how little was in the room until arriving. No TV, no electric jug, no where to make a coffee, only a bed that was so soft on one side it felt like I was rolling or sliding sideways all night. Uncomfortable. Only parking was on the street.
- Janine (8/5): - Food was really good, and location great. Price was a little higher than I would expect to pay for at a pub
- Kurt (9/5): Great - Cleanliness, friendly staff, comfortable. Nothing
- Greg (9/5): -
- Adam (9/5): - The room and the bed was pretty good and comfortable for the price No tea or coffee in room, no jug to boil, but that's the only thing. I was happily surprised with the room
- Mark (6/5): - Low cost accommodation at a convenient location. Didn't see staff the 10 days I stayed there
- Clifton (10/5): - Excellent
- James (10/5): - Needed a break from travelling.
- Kathryn (10/5): - The room was very basic but it was clean, tidy, and did the job very well. The room and bathroom were freshly renovated. The bedroom was quiet with minimal noise from the hotel downstairs.
- Alwarappan (4/5): - Common toilet and bathroom not disclosed while booking.
Do feel safe staying in this hotel.
- Ian (6/5): Simple pub fare - Simple pub rooms. No TV, no bedside lamp, no fridge. Room 1 has an en suite inc a bath.
Can be loud Fri and Sat nights with music playing downstairs.
Very friendly service and good food at the pub.
- Mark (2/5): Disgraceful, There is a big difference between what the accommodation is, and how described - Location good for what I wanted I've stayed in a lot of Hotel accommodation with shared facilities, this in is by far the worst, it was a very small room, with a single bed, a window, a sink & a small table, that's it !, no TV, No Airconditioning, no kettle or tea making facilities, the shared part of it consisted of 2 toilets, no urinal, & 2 showers, one of the toilets was out of order, so you had to wait around., The "shared Space" consisted of seating for 4, no kettle, no TV etc, with no Air-conditioning, you had to open the window for air, absolutely no sleep with all the street noise & DJ playing below.
When getting there and booking in the nice girl behind the bar wanted us to sign a form, and on that form it had words to the effect "you are signing knowing that the room have no air-conditioning, no TV, etc, it was the first I knew !!, it wasn't included when I booked it through Booking.com, if I had known, I would never have stayed there
- Brad Brolga (8/5): Good basic accommodation in good close location to football ground and Racecourse etc. - Basic pub rooms. Old but very clean. Nice Comfortable beds. The Queen Room had ensuite.
- Pip (2/5): Noisy room over the bar - Location was good for my purpose
At least the sheets were clean Stained/dirty doonas a blankets
Wafer thin pillows
No water pressure in the shower
No shelf or spot to put you soap shampoo etc In the shared bathroom facility
- David (8/5): - Lack of parking facilities.
- Deb (8/5): Very good -
- Amanda (10/5): - Is what it says on the tin. Shared bathroom is cleaner than anywhere else I've stayed. Bed is really comfy. Price is very good. Very very convenient for John Hunter hospital.
- Thomas (8/5): Very good - Price There was a heater in the room and no PowerPoint, also the seat was absolutely filthy. Best to throw out
- Vanzanden (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brett (7/5): Good - Great location to attend Macdonald Jones Stadium. About a 10min walk.
Great Customer Service Could do with some new Pillows. Very flat and not much support. Woke with a sore neck. Asked for new ones but they didn't have any. Very cold in winter as it only has a tiny little oil heater that didn't really do much.
- Ilker (2/5): Very poor -
- Kieran (10/5): - I enjoyed how well the walls blocked noise especially from traffic of a morning and night
- Steve (10/5): - Good Room at right price
- Andrew (3/5): Poor - Nothing Everything
- Nikki (7/5): Good -
- Kerin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vanessa (10/5): - We arrived a day later than planned due to the storms. Upon being shown to our room, we were told about the painting that was occurring throughout our stay. Unfortunately due to medical reasons, we could not stay with the painting occurring. We asked for a refund and the staff were very kind and actioned this request. The refund was gratefully received 1 week later.
- Simone (8/5): Well worth it - The location, food and staff Bit of traffic noise
- Curilens (5/5): Very basic, nice staff - Staff were extremely nice. Room was clean. Extremely basic in-room facilities. No kettle/toaster, no TV. Bedsheets were discoloured and stained.
- Ricky (8/5): Very good -
- Friederich (1/5): have very low expectations - nothing stains, noisy, unconfortable, 10am check out
- Melody (7/5): The General Roberts Hotel is comfortable and no frills accommodation. Recommend. - I booked the room in a bit of a hurry and in some rather trying personal circumstances. The rooms have been recently renovated and unfortunately, the smell of the carpet was a little stronger than anticipated. John Hunter Hospital is within a 5 minute drive. There are cafes, a pharmacy and a supermarket within a few blocks of the hotel, so it is very conveniently located. The meals in the hotel downstairs were generous, tasty and well priced. The lights in the female bathroom weren't working at the time - which was fine - but the lad who came upstairs to try and have the problem addressed was talking to someone (presumably management) on speakerphone at 10:30 at night while I was trying to sleep. When I advised him I was trying to sleep, he quietened down, but it was a little annoying that I had to ask him to be quiet.
- Lia (7/5): Good location and price but cleanliness needs work - Bed was very comfortable and having a sink in the room was nice. Bathroom was modern and clean. Room was a bit dark and window sill was dirty. Tried to have a shower and there was no hot water. Hallways are a bit dim and have a musty smell.
- Steven (7/5): Good -
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Esmatulla (1/5): Bad -
- June (2/5): - It was probably the worst motel we've ever stayed in. Loud music playing past midnight. The room smelt of vomit. The bed was squeaky and extremely uncomfortable. The pillows were too soft and felt empty. The sensor lights in the female bathroom and along the corridor did not work. So we had to use our phone light each time we go to the toilet. The room was big, but there was no mini fridge, no kettle nor tea/coffee provided. Very disappointing.
- Erin (6/5): Review of current room product cleanliness - Check in was great.
Greeting by bright bubbly staff who are super helpful.
- Room overall was not up to hygiene standard.
The cushions was dirty and digusting, with stains on them representing they hadnt cleaned.
- The bed linin also had black stains on them and in them additionally there was a blood stain on the doona.
- The bed itself was two single beds put together to make a larger one.
The room was advertised as queen. Being the two singles together do make a queen this is not the impression of a queen size bed we had booked in mind.
- Under the bed was disgusting. Clearly the two single beds havent been moved to clean under it. There was cut nails under the bed, loads of dust.
- The curtains also had what looked like to be snot.
All in all for needing a place to rest your head, it is okay.
For hygiene purposes it did not feel like the cleanest place.
- Terry (8/5): Very good - Big bed Bathroom a littlle bit seedy
- Dan (5/5): Disappointing - Not a lot… proximity to pizza shop I may have missed the fine print but to arrive and find no fridge no tv and no aircon was disappointing, rooms grubby, chairs and blankets stained, bathroom grotty and seemed to be never cleaned, same patch of bandaids in there for 4 days, was very disappointing,
- Phillip (5/5): Passable -
- Sumpton (8/5): Very good - Excellent customer service, really comfortable bed and nice hot shower
- Cates (8/5): Very good -
- Max (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic staff
- Mohit (7/5): Good - Quite area and friendly staffs There was no power point charge my phone.
- Neil (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (7/5): Good -
- John (10/5): - Great pub hotel, one of the best in Newcastle.
- Annette (6/5): Good. Could offer a TV and bar fridge - Good atmosphere and facilities No TV or bar fridge (never stayed in pub accommodation without them).
Some of the female staff weren’t pleasant.
- Stephen (3/5): Somewhere to crash if your young and having a night out. - Room fan did not work, people walking the corridor making noises.
- Murray (10/5): - live music
- Gai (7/5): Good -
- James (10/5): Motorbike ok. - Nice atmosphere and location. Just shame no fan operational. Little bit hot and stuffy until open windows and door for a while.
Some old fashion entertainment.
- George (7/5): Good -
- Dion (6/5): Pleasant -
- leon (4/5): - To be blunt you get what you pay for and the room is cheap so keep that in mind.
I had the king size suite king size bed. 2 single beds pushed together does not make it king size im average 6ft and my feet hang over the edge, no aircon just a fan from the 80s that doesnt do anything or move any air a window opens only slightly with no flt screen so bug city when open. No fridge they have a kettle and 2 cups but no coffee or spoons, the glasses in the batheroom had not been cleaned from the last guest. Pretty awful and cheap but you get what you pay for, in this day and age spend $1000 put in a new fan and tv and fridge and the rest can be forgiven.
- Tilak (4/5): - Staff were great and friendly but room was not good
- Andreas (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jesse (3/5): Poor - toilets has piss and poo all over them. all sheets had blood stains disgusting.
- Deanne (8/5): Very good -
- Kerry (1/5): Did not end up staying and asked that our deposit be refunded. - Nothing. Room allocated was very stuffy with limited or no ventilation. Room was a "sauna" when we checked in. No air conditioning and fan did not work. Sought alternative accommodation.
- Dean (8/5): Very good - Manager was a great guy. Very helpful.
- Ms (9/5): Superb -
- Charles (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ebony (7/5): Good -
- Teresa (4/5): - The staff were amazing, but no air conditioning upstairs where the rooms were and was like a sauna it was a 30* degree day plus our fan in our room didn’t work properly it was just on slow motion so it was very uncomfortable trying to get ready to go downstairs to the pub to a function
We couldn’t sleep because it was very uncomfortable way to hot
Plus soap should be provided in the bathroom for washing hands
- Samuel (2/5): - Room is not as advertised. Boiling hot and the airconditioner does not work, bathrooms are communal and the fan does not work.
- Zia (6/5): - Basic accomdation in central Newcastle. Shared bathroom is fine. For one night it is fine for travellers. The pub downstairs is convenient. Plenty of street parking.
- S (1/5): Bad - Dirty Chair. The fan hardly spins. When spins it makes squeaky sound. No aircon. Very hot inside. Booked with extra large bed. Put single bed together and was so uncomfortable sleeping. Too much outside noise. No bedside table or charging point. Worst stay ever.
- David (8/5): Great cheap Stay. - Another good Stay here for me travelling solo to visit family. Great pub, staff are excellent and friendly. Bistro has good meals and rooms are basic but comfy. Bathrooms are clean.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Very average - unfortunately. The second room we booked had such a bad smell - not sure if it was vomit or smoke we had to change rooms - v happy the staff could accommodate this!
- Gavin (6/5): - Rooms could use an air conditioner
- Gavin (8/5): Very good -
- Lorraine (8/5): - The rooms were clean and comfortable however we booked two separate rooms. One room was located on the corner of the building on a intersection. The noise from the road was a little more than expected. There was a constant noise in the background which we could not determine where it was coming from. I asked my friend if he wanted to swap rooms but he stuck it out. The other room was not as noisy. The shared bathrooms could do with some upgrade. There is no soap dispenser near the hand basins so going to the toilet and no soap to wash hands was disappointing. The shower facility was good but would benefit from a small shelf or wooden stand to put your clean clothes on and your personal items while in the shower. Overall the facilities were great for what we required. I would imagine that most people would not be staying at the facility for multiple days (we were there for 5 days. The staff cleaning the rooms were great. I asked for clean towels on day 3 and the staff were more than accommodating to provide what I required - the staff member even asked was there anything else he could get me. All in all I enjoyed the stay as I have never stayed in hotel/pub accommodation before it was a new experience. All the staff I interacted with were fabulous. Well done crew.
- Annette (6/5): - Shower and bath were not clean, bedding old.
- Catherine (4/5): Disappointing - No air conditioning and dirty shower room 1
- Jason (10/5): Stay overnight for a drink. - Nice pub. Sharing the bathroom was not very clean and the bed mattress isn't comfy is very cheap.
- Tony (7/5): Good -
- Ant (5/5): Passable -
- Amir (5/5): Passable - Location. staff sound of bar disturb. No room service. no one even replace the bin and make it empty.lighting was really poor. showers need a stand to put shampoo and soaps.
- Sarah (8/5): - …
- Mary (10/5): All Good - Its comfy room None
- Hugh (7/5): Good -
