Guest Reviews
- Fanny (9/5): Best value and best location. - Excellent location and very friendly staff! The breakfast was wonderful. It would be even nicer if the hotel changed the menu more often since we had breakfast there for a few days. Overall, excellent value!! None. Everything was great!
- Julien (10/5): Très agréable - Très bien placé proche gare et personnel très agréable Super personnel
- Charito (10/5): -
- Sidney (10/5): - Kind people, nice room, great breakfast
Fantastyczny onsen do dyspozycji gości.

- David (10/5): - Very good location, close to the train and bus station. The staff was really nice with us.
- Wai Ching (8/5): Worth the price, nice location - Location is excellent, staff is friendly and helpful there is a school tour living in the same hotel, a bit disturbing
- Michel Verleysen (9/5): So close to the train station and easy to get to - Breakfast was ready when they said it would be. The typical Japanese breakfast to compliment the Ryokan experience. The public baths in the basement are fantastic. We stayed for 3 nights and never met anyone else in them. I read Japanese so no problem but if you do not there i no way to understand how to control the AC and heating. A guide in English should be given when you check in.
- Sharon (7/5): I’d stay again cos of the location. - Loved the experience of staying in a ryokan. Free small onsen in the basement and free hot drinks dispenser with some good quality items. Very well located facing the Kyoto station. Comfortable robes and slippers provided. The hotel seemed a little outdated , especially the hallways.

- Sarah (8/5): - The hotel itself was fine and the staff were great. I booked the Japanese style room and had little knowledge of what to expect. The room was fine with futons that were harder than I expected (but, again, I didn’t really know what to expect). The private bathroom was small but the onsen was great. The location is right across from the train station (which I thought would be noisy with foot traffic however, the room was exceptionally quiet). I would have preferred to stay closer to Gion or just across the river west of Gion for ease of access to the nightlife.
- Jeffrey (9/5): Comfortable, convenient and friendly. - Everyone was very good to us. They were always friendly and made us feel welcome. Whenever we did need help with something they were always responsive and accommodating. It is located right across from the train station, which helped us, as we travelled to Kyoto by Shinkansen. The breakfast was gorgeous, and also delicious.
We chose to stay in a more traditional room, and it was a good way to have this kind of an experience while staying closer to the things we wanted to see, and public transportation to get us on the bus/subway/train that would take us to some of the further away sights.
- Robin (10/5): Back to the 90s vibe with great amenities and public bath! - Feels like going back to the 90s in a charming old world vibe. Still great amenities, public bath and impeccable service!
- A K M (7/5): -
- Martínez (10/5): - El Onsen

- Juan (6/5): Overall, this ryokan offers a great location and a traditional Japanese atmosphere, but some policies and practical det - This traditional ryokan is located just across the road from Kyoto Station, making it a very convenient base for exploring Kyoto and nearby destinations like Osaka and Fushimi Inari.
The rooms are spacious and styled in a classic Japanese manner, with tatami flooring and futon beds that offer an authentic experience, though we personally did not find the bedding particularly comfortable. Each room includes a private bathroom, which is a nice addition to the traditional setup.
The staff were generally polite and friendly. They informed us we could return between 15:30–16:00 for early check-in, but when we arrived at 15:50, we were still asked to wait until 16:00, which made the earlier guidance feel a bit pointless. That said, they did allow us to leave our luggage ahead of time and had it delivered to our room, which was appreciated.
The ryokan follows traditional customs, such as removing shoes in the hall and wearing provided slippers. Yukata outfits are also provided. One of the highlights is the public bath facilities, including a natural mineral onsen, which we used daily and found relaxing. However, there were several aspects we did not like. The shared slippers felt unhygienic and took away from the overall comfort of the stay. There is also a strict curfew from midnight to 6am, which felt quite restrictive and uncomfortable—especially compared to other places (for example, in Osaka where hotel key cards still allow entry after hours). The public bath signage was confusing; clearer men/women signs would be much easier to understand than relying on Japanese writing or color coding. Using pink and blue is not ideal, as in many places—especially in the West—color is not a reliable indicator of gender. Simple visual icons, such as a geisha for women and a samurai for men, would make it much clearer for international guests. This confusion led to an awkward situation where we initially entered the wrong bath. Additionally, the onsen closes at 9am, and while we were getting changed shortly after, a staff member entered to clean despite us indicating we were still inside, which made for an uncomfortable experience.
- Jeff (10/5): Excellent séjour - Un ryokan en immeuble en plein centre ville
Excellent emplacement face a la gare
Et en plus il y a des Onsens
Personnel très sympathique Rien
- Francisco (7/5): -
- Kyra (9/5): -
- Safarina G (8/5): Traditional vibe in the heart of Kyoto - Perfect Location: Directly across from Kyoto Station; ideal for transit and sightseeing.
Authentic Vibe: Traditional tatami rooms and a relaxing communal bath for a true Kyoto feel.
Warm Hospitality: Very friendly, helpful staff and a delicious Japanese breakfast. Strict Curfew: No entry or exit between midnight and 6:00 AM.
Small & Dated: Rooms are quite compact and the building shows its age.
- Mika (7/5): -
- Akshay (10/5): Absolutely amazing - Traditional, great location, cleanliness, onsen Should have been little More language friendly
- Kittiya (10/5): - Ryokan originally.
- CARLOS (10/5): -
- nicola (8/5): -
- Emil (7/5): - Central, friendly staff No washlet, just 1 size shoes
- Bernadete (10/5): -
- Raphael (9/5): Great traditional stay with great location! - The room is quite spaceous, sleeping on the floor gives that traditional feeling.
Location is super (across Kyoto Station). Staff is very friendly and helpful.
You have to take off your shoes in the hall and use slippers provided by Matsumoto Ryokan which gives the stay a tidy feel. There is a curfew starting from 00:00 to 06:00, you cannot enter the ryokan between these hours. If you're planning to go out make sure to arrive back after the curfew ended.
The slippers provided do not support large foot size, with EU size 45 and up the slippers feel uncomfortable.
- Thomas (8/5): -
- Astrid (8/5): -
- lyons (10/5): - Very nice bath area close to the main station and very nice traditional japanese style room

- Izabela (9/5): Must experience while in Japan, especially in Kyoto :) - Choosing a ryokan was my an intentional choice, so I liked the traditional japanese stay. Wearing slippers used by other hotel guests is not very hygienic. I would prefer to wear disposable slippers assigned individually to each guest room in a ryokan.
- Macushla (9/5): - Great location, lovely to have the onsen, really friendly staff The room was a little bit too warm
- Jonathan (7/5): -
- Adam (9/5): -
- Michael (6/5): -
- Lucia (8/5): A traditional Japanese, easy and functional base in Kyoto for easy access to the city and station - Simple, easy and functional. A great base in Kyoto for easy access to the city and station. A wonderful way to experience traditional Japanese ryokan. Loved the Onsen on premise The facilities are a bit dated.
- TSUJIMURA (6/5): -
- Wondererer (10/5): - Authentic traditional Japanese Experience
- Diána (7/5): Value and price does not meet - The onsen is a great addition. Rooms are spacious. I enjoyed the simplicity. The staff was AMAZAING, they are helpful and you feel they take care of you. Compared to Japanese hotels in the same category, they do not offer free water, coffee. Rooms were a bit dusty maybe because the interior is old.

- Frida Eleonora (10/5): - Much nicer than I actually expected it to be! Very clean and cosy room and clean bathroom. Staff was really friendly and welcoming. Location near the train station was not the best for me but very central. Would stay there again
- Tyler (9/5): - Close proximity to station Light and charging sockets way too far from bed.
- Nancy (10/5): Great value and excellent location - Onsen bath and traditional Japanese breakfast
- Carolin (8/5): -
- Eduard (10/5): -
- Cora (9/5): Great spot for a traditional room with easy access to the rest of Kyoto! - Helpful staff, amazing vibes, private bathroom AND public bath, can sort out luggage shipping, very handy location to the train station and buses with plenty of food places around, just like photos. It was definitely a worthwhile stay to experience a traditional vibe room. Id prefer to have a privacy option as a westerner. You have to leave key with front desk whenever you go out, they have additional keys to get into the room to housekeeping and make bed regularly even though I said I didn't need cleaning which was interesting.
- Kerry (9/5): - The onsens were amazing and we used them twice a day, everyday. Our room was great and I liked that we had a sitting area. The breakfast was delicious! The room was exceptionally clean, but I did not like the smell of cigarette smoke in the room. It was even in our towels. We did not ask for the room to be deodorized because we assumed that would just be a chemical fragrance which could be worse.
- Celso Noboru Ochiai (7/5): -
- Caroline (9/5): -
- Ergun (10/5): - Nice staff, good bath, amazing location
- Michelle (10/5): -
- Lin (9/5): -
- Mark (8/5): - Ill fitting shoes in the hotel
- Wright (9/5): Perfect place to stay in central Kyoto - Loved the traditional vibes and the incredible breakfasts serve served daily.

- catherine (6/5): -
- Uschi (7/5): - Onsen im Haus
netter Aufenthaltsbereich im Erdgeschoß
super Lage gleich gegenüber des Bahnhofsgebäudes keine Waschmaschine vorhanden
etwas teuer
- TAI TEI ISABELLA (7/5): -
- Kambayashi (8/5): -
- Belen (10/5): -
- Chia Hsing (10/5): -
- Tegan (9/5): Lovely hotel very authentic and the manger was amazing :) - Great location near the station an lovely staff :)
- Clément (10/5): -
- shufen (8/5): -
