Guest Reviews
- James (6/5): Very expensive for a night in a room that was so hot it was very difficult to sleep - Lovely hotel, great location On the hottest day of the year , the heating was on full in our bedroom and we/they couldn’t turn it off!
- Kiera (10/5): -
- Michael (7/5): Would still come again ! - Old and quaint. Noisy room, near road and above a function room.
- Lisa (9/5): - Location, bedroom was lovely, nice and quiet. Should have mini fridges in the rooms
- Alessandro (9/5): - Staff molto professionale, ottima colazione La stanza lungo strada al primo piano con annessi rumori dall'esterno.
- Daydream682216 (10/5): Very old, rather lovely, building with excellent service and services. - Old hotel with some 'quirks', but a lovely place to stay. We had a 2-night 'package' (which included Bletchley Park) last week. On arrival, a pleasant surprise to find a parking space in their tiny carpark attached to the hotel (a big car park a little further up the street). The receptionist was the first of the extremely welcoming staff who kindly allowed us to leave our bags at reception, as we were early. When we got into our room, it was again a surprise to find such a large space and very quiet overlooking the courtyard. The bathroom was a little tired and a small problem was swiftly dealt with. However, good fluffy towels and a large bath/shower combination in, again, a large room. Breakfast was a 'buffet' style 'Continental' (breads, Danish pastries, fruit, juices, tea/coffee machines) and main items being served at the table. Freshly cooked to order - I particularly recommend their Eggs Benedict! The bar was snug and welcoming, though not many people in there (mid-week). And everywhere was sparklingly clean. Service could not be faulted in any of the 'venues'. Highly recommended!
- Mark (8/5): -
- Sheralyn (8/5): Would stay again but probably wouldn’t eat. - Staff were unfailingly helpful and charming.
Bed was very comfortable.
Secure parking.
Central location. No shower in the suite we were given.
No gardens.
Breakfast could have been better. Pastries were limited, no croissants or pain au raisin. Preserves were not great quality and poor selection.
Continental lacked cold meats and cheese.
Don’t like brioche buns with burgers.
- Sean (10/5): -
- Adam (10/5): - Lovely hotel room service parking and more . Will be back soon.
- Trevor (8/5): - The restaurant food was disappointing.
Overcooked duck (asked for pink ) and pork tough.
- Philip (10/5): Awesome - Everything, the staff were awesome and the food was amazing There's nothing to dislike
- Beverley (8/5): Lovely place to stay in the centre of Buckingham. - Villiers is a lovely hotel, we have stayed previously and would stay again. We ate in the bar two nights out of three and the food was excellent (we had our dog so didn't use the dining room). Exceptional staff, and Ruby (serving in the pub) deserves a special mention as not only did we personally experience good service (attentive and nicely paced, not rushed), but I witnessed her most professional, patient and KIND behaviour towards an elderly customer who was not particularly easy to reassure on something. We did have some minor issues with our room this time (courtyard room 3) which we have not experienced in other rooms, and I fully explained these to the lady at reception who took it seriously
- Bodspafc (10/5): Relaxed vibes in this old hotel but with a modern feel. - We stayed here after getting a Travelzoo deal that included tickets for Bletchley Park, which is about 20 minutes’ drive away. The staff were very friendly and profesional and they help es to make it a very relaxing weekend. Breakfast was decent, a nice change from the cooked buffet but pastries, fruit, bread and juice was self service still. The rooms were spacious and modern decor, but a few creaky floorboards as it’s an old building. The rituals toiletries in the rooms were a bonus! I would recommend the hotel for visiting Bletchley and/or Stowe gardens.
- Paul (9/5): - Great hotel, good facilities, clean well sized room and lovely staff. Great location for getting out and about around the surrounding area.
- Gillian (9/5): Perfect hotel for Buckingham stay. Very central, but quiet. - Room was spacious and very clean. Good size bed. Everything we needed, hairdryer, iron and board, toiletries, water, tea, coffee and fan. Water pressure was excellent. Breakfast was lovely. Bar stayed open for residents for as long as you wished. Staff were friendly and helpful. Nice area to sit outside. Nothing.
- Yara Pamela (10/5): - Location, the facilities and hospitality of staff NA
- Eleanor (9/5): Great weekend stay - Nice comfortable bedrooms and public spaces. Breakfast was very good with continental options plus a good variety of cooked food. Staff were very professional, helpful and friendly. It is an old building which has been added to over the years. Whilst it is very nice I did have difficulty finding my way around at first but once I worked out how to get to and from my room it was fine.
- Helen (10/5): - Lovely room. Clean & comfortable. On site parking. Lovely meal in the restaurant.
- Gregory (8/5): Would stay again but eat elsehwere - We stayed over with a group of friends and staff were great and we were comfortable in the bar area all night. Rooms were great. Dining was not great. Food was expensive and disappointing.
- Jacobs (8/5): Vwey pleasant stay with a lovely breakfast - we would definitely choose Villiers again if in the area. - The property is quirky, yet comfortable, reflecting its former use as a brewery. There was p;entry of easy car parking. It was within easy walking distance of restaurants and pubs as an alternative to the hotel The bath area of the bathroom was a little tired but perfectly clean. As o;dear persons, we found it tricky to get into the bath (necessary for using the shower).
- Monika (5/5): Für unseren Trip gut - Lage für uns perfekt bei dieser Reise
Frühstück schlampig Teppichboden nicht gesaugt schmutzig
- Jean (7/5): Good for what we needed - Lovely hotel we stayed in a dog friendly room. The carpet wasn’t the best Good lactation with parking
- Vikkimxxx (10/5): We had a really lovely overnight stay at the Villiers Hotel - The location is perfect, right near the centre of the town. We stayed in a superior room which was spacious, comfortable, and very quiet. The bed was especially comfy and we both slept really well.
Breakfast the next morning was good and a nice start to the day.
- Clive Maurice (8/5): Great overnighter - Lovely hotel All good
- Rumessa (9/5): -
- Mungo Akerman (10/5): Keith is the best night porter - Keith is the best!
- Barbara (8/5): Great place to stop over in - Room was spacious, beds a good size. Bathroom also a good size. Couldn't find switches for some of the lights, so kettle area a bit dark. Shower was over bath which was a bit highsided so a challenge to climb in and out of (might be an age thing!)
- Richard (9/5): Convenient stop over - Nice location in town, friendly staff No issues
- Victor Fashoro (7/5): -
- Mumof3_Sammi (10/5): Amazing all round - Staff were wonderful, the good was fantastic and the room was so clean. Couldn't fault our stay
- TONY (9/5): -
- CWW190763 (6/5): Pleasant Enough Stay but Not 4 Star - Spent 2 nights here and had a duplex room which was comfortable and clean but most definitely in need of some TLC, especially in the bathroom where there was evidence of water leakage and the loo lid had come adrift from one of its hinges. We could hear people moving about above our room, and also doors banging periodically, though perhaps that's inevitable in an old building.
Had dinner on the first night which was ok but nothing special - the cooked-to-order breakfasts were better though. However, what I couldn't quite get over for a 4 star hotel was that they didn't have a slice of lemon or lime for a gin & tonic at the bar ..... do they not use lemons in the restaurant kitchen?
On a more positive note, although the hotel seemed quite under-resourced, all of the staff we had contact with were charming and helpful.
- Robin Ross (9/5): - Food very good
- michael (7/5): Only a one night stay.Staff were very friendly and welcoming. In spite of odd niggle would stay again - Cooked breakfast was disappointing.Fried bread cold, scrambled egg not good, bacon overdone. Room was upgradedto duplex. However toilet seat was broken,no hot water from basin.Soap dispenser in shower was empty.Large stain on carpet in downstairs lounge.Bed large and comfortable but overall room needs updating
- Joanne (6/5): Comfortable, helpful pleasant staff, but poor breakfast and difficult access - The bedrooms were clean and comfortable and we slept well Breakfast was inadequate. 2 inch square of fried bread was insulting. Why bother?
Access to the hotel and leaving the hotel by car was very difficult and frustrating at times. Car park difficult to maneover in and the road outside difficult to navigate
- Vivien (8/5): Comfortable hotel with great staff - The hotel is positioned conveniently in Buckingham, offers a restaurant and bar plus there is a gym available for guests. We stayed in a ground floor room because we brought our two dogs with us. The room although a little tired, was spacious, comfortable and serviced with a kettle, teas, coffees etc, perfectly adequate for our needs. We ate in the restaurant both nights that we stayed and was very good. We found the staff in all areas to be welcoming, polite and helpful…we will definitely stay again! The hotel doesn’t generally offer breakfast within the price, as an optional extra £20pp is quite steep. We found that there are plenty of alternatives in the town.
- Lynn (10/5): Comfortable and relaxed - Always clean, good location
- Carol (8/5): A pleasant break in a convenient location the interesting town of Buckingham. - Staff were friendly and helpful and our room was very pleasant. Parking was an asset. The outside of the hotel was very scruffy, peeling paint, dead plants in hanging baskets and dirty windows. The road outside was very narrow, busy and noisy and our room was facing into it. There were some small problems with the standard of housekeeping in our room but they were dealt with efficiently. The bar area was dark and unwelcoming.
- Graham (7/5): Overall good but staffing issues and coffee machine broke down - Location and facilities Under- staffed in bar and breakfast restaurant
- Karen (8/5): Relaxing - Location was perfect for the family function at the ballroom opposite. Breakfast was slightly disappointing. The coffee machine was broken and just 1 member of staff dealing with a very busy dining room More staff needed at breakfast & someone to fix the coffee machine
- tardis1956 (8/5): Nice hotel, good location, and quiet - Had a very spacious twin room, which was nicely appointed with T and Coffee making facilities. Good en suite bathroom with shower in the bath, which is not my favorite type of shower, but it worked well nevertheless. The room was quiet considering we were there the centre of town.
The restaurant was nicely laid out, and the food was good except for my wife who had cold mashed potato, which was replaced. Breakfast was comprehensive and a good choice of everything even though the toaster did my head in as it’s one of these ancient things which you have to put your taste through about three times for it to come out brown! Otherwise it was all good. The courtyard parking is in the old stables so in maneuvering your car in was challenging! Altogether very nice hotel and would stay there again.
- Alexandra (9/5): - Location room size
- marese (9/5): -
- Lynn (10/5): Cosy hotel with good bar and great staff - Great staff, always clean, comfortable.
- michellebh2013 (4/5): Not very pleasant - Very bad atmosphere when I visited, just for a drink while i was in town, seemed to be some sort of event. Quite political and unwelcoming.
- Janet (8/5): Good - Very pretty and bright The bathroom toilet was a bit unclean but we sorted it
- Bunmi (8/5): It was a good one, staff were very nice and the facilities are nice. -
- Mairead (10/5): Good experienced - Nice comfortable Nothing
- Virginia (5/5): Disappointing - Warm comfortable well equipped room Faulty tv . No hot water on last morning of stay.. very poor breakfasts - poor quality ingredients. So bad went elsewhere on third morning.
I was a single occupancy but tried to bill me for 2 persons fir breakfast.
- Christina (8/5): Lovely hotel with nice staff but the dining experience is to be avoided. Dont eat there. - The rooms were wonderful. Beautifully decorated, spacious and probably the best I have been in. The water was piping hot and it was easy to manage the the heating . We booked in for supper and it was pretty bad. Just about everything we asked for was off the men including vegetables as a side dish. The poor waitress must have been so embaressed. It wasnt , when it eventually came, which took well over an hour, well cooked . It was a disaster.
- Karin (6/5): Lovely hotel, nice bar however I recommend you eat elsewhere. - Lovely hotel in town centre. Clean. Friendly staff. Dukes Restaurant lets this hotel down. Almost everything was off the menu. We waited over two hours for our main course even though there were very few guests there. Considering it was a steak house I couldn’t cut my steak as the steak knife was blunt. The staff were young and polite and very obviously embarrassed by having to continually explain to the guests that most of the dishes weren’t available. The staff were in no way to blame.
- reves (8/5): correu tudo muito bem - não tomei o pequeno almoço
- Christine (10/5): First visit to Villiers but won't be the last! - Very welcoming reception staff member. She went out of her way to find us a room where we could use the lift instead of the stairs as my husband had hurt his leg. It wasn't a problem but there was only one staff member to serve a very busy breakfast room. She had to work really hard not only serving but keeping self service buffet topped up!
- Susysue55 (6/5): Nice hotel but eat somewhere else - Nice hotel with large comfortable rooms ,on site parking and reasonably priced.
Sadly the poor restaurant lets it down
Dinner was a complete comedy of errors and breakfast very disappointing
- Dave (9/5): Slight delay on breakfast, only one staff member and quite busy - Central, comfortable, welcoming
- Kausi (8/5): Great stay, would stay here again! - Lovely stay. The bedding was comfortable and the bathroom was clean! No fridge but the hotel staff let us store our items in another fridge!
- Stu151 (8/5): Good but not quite "excellent" - The hotel has a 450 year history, but has been substantially renovated (relatively) recently - producing a modern hotel, but keeping many of the original features.
Our room was excellent, very large, nice bed etc (and a temperature control that actually worked !). There are however, a few small maintenance issues, that needs sorting out (peeling paint, minor damage on walls and so on), but the overall standard is good.
The one big issue we had, was that there is an over bath shower, but the bath both has a high rim, and is set low into the floor - meaning that it's very difficult to actually get into the shower safely (and I'm 6/2).
Friendly/helpful staff. Nice breakfast.
- Ken (9/5): Very clean and comfortable. Excellent location. Parking was appreciated. -
- Helen (9/5): -
- Mizoguchi (10/5): -
- Mandy (8/5): Comfortable and Pleasant stay for work. - bedroom comfortable and clean, staff lovely, area of beauty. nothing
- Suzun (7/5): -
- Juliana (10/5): -
- Kirsty (9/5): Very nice, great hotel, staff and food. Would come back for sure. - Not too busy, very helpful and friendly staff, lovely room and great food. The only thing I’d say is that the bathroom could do with an update as the shower screen leaked so there was a pool of water on the floor after a shower, and the sink was cracked and quite scaly/grimy around the taps and plug hole. It was fine, but ready for a refit soon as it was just a bit tired and dated.
- Shuff (8/5): -
- rosaleend442 (6/5): Not 4* - Arrived and expecting a superior room which we did not receive. They upgraded us to a suite (duplex). No fridge. Very nice room.
For beakfast we asked for smashed avocado and it arrived and was smooth guacamole - not fresh avocado. Disappointed.
Day two we ordered full English. It was okay - nothing special.
I would like to say the staff were lovely and very helpful.
The hotel is tired and needs a revamp.
- Emily (9/5): -
- Stefan (7/5): Pleasant but not overwhelming! - Pleasant hotel well located in Buckingham. Good parking and centrally located. Staff were pleasant and the room was perfectly clean and comfortable. It was not a boutique experience and felt a little corporate. Breakfast was ok but not amazing… for example the coffee machine wasn’t working, but there wasn’t anyone there to help or give you an adjustable, just a notice! At breakfast there was a lack of initial service with no greeting or support with the buffet. Food was fine though and when a member of Staff did appear they were helpful. There was not the sense of attention to guests that you get in some hotels and that was a shame as staff were lovely when they did assist.
- Philip (10/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): -
- Susan (8/5): -
- Darren (6/5): - location One of the rooms heating did not work, had to move to a different floor which was not great for the pensioners, shower was dripping all night
- Michael (8/5): Will stay again but had difficulty in finding any manager to help with issues - Good location comfy room very understaffed the girl on reception was new and couldn’t get hold of her manager for a long time whilst other members of our party were trying to get a light bulb changed and to see why heating wasn’t working in another room
- Sarah (6/5): -
- Clive (9/5): Great large and comfortable room at a fair price - Good location, large room, good parking, good price, booked for one night stayed an extra night because we were so impressed 🤩 Bar was poor, restaurant was empty, asked for the fire to be lit in the bar as it was cold, but told no way as it was just after 9pm, not impressed!
- kimberley (10/5): Wobder Christmas stay - Stayed over Christmas which i was concerned about. Thought i may feel homesick. They made me so welcome. I was even given a Christmas gift and card. Extremely thoughtful Should have stayed longer
- Faith (10/5): This was above par - I was Surprise by the size of the room, facilities available Not applicable
- Cheryl (7/5): -
- Jackie (6/5): -
- Prashant Janardhan (7/5): Good experience - Location and neat & clean WiFi was slow and b’fast spread is limited
- Debrah (8/5): Nice but expensive for the amount paid - Excellent location just not enough parking facilities The price was more expensive than our last stay and it didn’t include breakfast
- Joanna (8/5): The rooms were nice and spacious. The staff were friendly. - We did not have breakfast. We were surprised that we were asked for a £50 deposit against damages. When we stayed at Villiers a few months ago and were not required to do this.
- jamie (10/5): -
- Phil (10/5): Excellent facilities in a lovely area - Excellent facilities. Loved the breakfast! the parking is limited but there's nothing anyone can do so it's not a problem. There is an overspill carpark but that gets busy too.
- Christine (9/5): -
- Scott (9/5): Another good stay - Room only for one night.
Great place to stay.
I regularly stay in Buckingham and will not stay anywhere else. I have tried other places to stay, I only go to the Villiers now. I did not see any of the familiar faces members of staff this time
- Chantal (1/5): Do not stay! - Reception staff were friendly Awful experience, room was not cleaned from previous people and overall cleanliness was not there. Loud Aircon and cleaner woke us out of our sleep!
- SimonW4366 (8/5): Lovely 16th century coaching inn with spacious modern rooms. - Lovely 16th century coaching inn with spacious modern rooms. Stayed here for my birthday for 2 nights in a double superior room with breakfast. The room was spacious and modern decor. It was clean and same with the bathroom. It had tv and tea and coffee making etc. Toiletries in the bathroom. Also free parking whiich every hotel should offer. Paying for parking in a hotel you stay in is a definite no for me. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice. The cooked is served to you. You can go up and help yourself to cereals, yogurts etc. All in all we enjoyed our stay. Staff and service was good and friendly.
- 650marionp (8/5): Pleasant stay despite the shortcomings - Great Location. The hotel is centrally placed in the town. Friendly, informal atmosphere. The rooms are rather tired and the bathroom that we had lacked a light over the basin, an extractor fan, hooks and exiting the shower could be difficult for anyone with even the slightest mobility problem. The restaurant was understaffed and some of the dishes unavailable (from a fairly limited menu). Staff all very pleasant and helpful though. It was noisy, the function rooms, gym etc are across the road. The car park is very tight although there is an overflow car park a short walk away. We had advised a blue badge and a space was reserved. That aside, we had an enjoyable enough stay.
- Raheel Khan (4/5): Overall, I was disappointed with the service of this hotel. - My request for 2 adjacent rooms was taken care of. First of all we were not able to check-in at the check-in time of 3.00PM as the hotel was not ready with our bookings. FInally at around 4 PM we got the room, and one of the 2 rooms was double-booked. Later, after about an hour, this was sorted by providing another room. The breakfast was below average.
- Chris (8/5): -
- Paul (8/5): -
- James (7/5): -
- Stephen (9/5): - Friendly staff, very good breakfast
- James (9/5): -
- David (9/5): -
- Bernadette (1/5): Still need accommodation at end of January for family event. - Issue with booking - booked dates in December not January as requested. Staff unhelpful and rude, with no attempt to resolve issue. See above
- Adrian (8/5): -
- Stuart (9/5): Great Historic hote in the heart of Buckingham - GREAT location and steeped with history and is well maintained, amazing breakfast, hand parting on site
