Guest Reviews
- Apolonio (1/5): Terrible - Nothing , I have bad knees and having to walk up 3 stories up rickety narrow stairs. I only made it to the second level and had to turn around. We ended up staying at another hotel.
- Colleen (8/5): I was happy to find this place to stay at with such short notice. It is a quaint place and centrally located. I liked it - Decent location. The ocean wasn’t too far away. View of ocean needed binoculars and a ton of stairs to have that view.
- Christopher J (6/5): - The room was fine. Kitchenette was micro sized, barely usable and the shower head was a joke. Place was clean and comfortable but my goodness a lot of stairs, really hard for a disabled Senior.
- sandra (10/5): Go look at other places stay - The TV did not work. Had to buy DVDs to play. Left front burner doesn't get hot enough and the oven knob has no temperature for cooking on it. I was told one price and charged another.
Would never stay again as it had too many steps and would not get the TV to work
- Jane (2/5): - We stayed for less than an hour. My disabled son wasn't able to access the unit. I wish we were granted a refund.
- corwin (6/5): Room is for young people - Website didnt mention the 49 stairs up to the room. Shower head very cheap and held on by masking tape. Shower curtain liner wasnt waterproof so flooded bathroom floor. Microwave and coffee maker are in the closet. No counter space. But an amazing view and Deer in the parking lots a huge plus.
- Lee Ellen (8/5): - This property was very homey and comfortable... my husband is already ready to return. As for me... i will be sure to bring a thermometer, as thenoven has no markings. It was like returning to my youth and feeling the heat with my hand to determine if it was close to temperature. We had our tablet, so we watched a movie on that, as we could not get the TV to work... the directions didnt help. All in all, we went to enjoy the beach, salt air and the waves... and we did just that. I can see staying here in the future.
- Kayleen (10/5): - Love this place..my first get-a-away place when I first got to Portland, now its my 3rd time
Stay is always like a home...have recommended this place to others...thank you and see you soon
- Christopher (4/5): Would Not Stay Here Again - Ok, the good parts. Clean coffee pot. There was a full-size fridge and freezer. The view from the deck to the ocean was pretty good as well. Now the bad - they had base board heat, and we could not get it to turn off so we ended up having to open all the windows, so we did not cook to death on the top floor. The love seat was uncomfortable and stained and the pull-out bed from it was a joke. The pull out was broken at the bottom and they tried to fix it by cris crossing two metal wires and duck taping them to the frame, which did not work. The queen size bed was lumpy and very uncomfortable. The oven and stove were filthy. There were no towels or dry rack for the dishes so we ended up using bath towels to dry the dishes. The sliding glass door to the balcony, the seal is broken so all you could see was condensation in between the two panes of glass and a bunch of mold at the bottom. There was no screen on the sliding glass door. There was only one screen to one of the windows in the bedroom, and even that had a hole in it. There were stains all over the carpets and made you to want to wear shoes all the time. The shower head did not work well and the shower insert had mold growing where the two pieces met. Bring an extension cord or you will have to move the microwave from the cupboard to the table with the coffee pot and no room to eat a meal at the table. The pictures of this place are not accurate at all. Broken smoke detector hanging from wires.
- john (8/5): - Overall, it met my expectations. Better views than expected of the ocean despite buildings. I had the top floor.
The unit needs an oven vent. I love to cook and set the smoke alarm off. Opening the deck sliding door solved this issue. Luckily it wasn't raining.
The shower could use a handheld shower head.
My biggest issue is the check in/out process. Not hoh/deaf friendly.
They should allow texting or emailing for this process. My advice to future hoh/deaf customers to contact them ahead of time that you will be texting or emailing the check in/out process.
I probably will not be back to this one given the rigid check in/out process and the 5 pm check in time is quite late. Even 4 pm would be much better.
- Oksana (4/5): - At first, there is no ocean view or hair dryer as they promised. Second, our condo was furnished with thrift store, including dishes. Mattress wasn't comfortable at all. Third, there was strong urine smell in a living room. And last, they charged much more than they supposed to. For this amount of money I could have a much more comfortable hotel room nearby without so many rules and limitations.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Near the beach - The condo was clean, and generally is reasonable condition. Beds are very uncomfortable. Main floor bathroom door does not close (pocket door with no way to pull it shut)
- Verified traveler (6/5): Oof...Could be better. - It was cheap and by the beach, so I was willing to lower my expectations since they had a great location. However, management tacked on a much higher bill than what they disclosed through Hotels.com, which would have affected my choice to stay here. The final bill was comparable to a nicer hotel. Ouch.
With the nicer hotel filter in mind, here are some notes.
What went well:
- Location was good! I liked how accessible the beach was.
- Unit was clean and decently kept. Had a rustic charm to it.
What could be improved:
- Unit had no A/C (expected) or fans (unexpected). Not terrible, since it's by the ocean and you do have breezes, but they also have no window screens. You'll have to balance comfort with bugs, especially on summer nights. Bathrooms also have no fans, so you *have* to leave the windows open in there so that it dries out and doesn't get moldy.
- Curtains were largely perfunctory and thin. You don't realize how badly you miss blackouts in a room until you don't have them, and that morning sun is *intense*.
- Mattresses were old, thin, stained, and in one case, canted to one side, so that effort had to be taken to not roll off the bed. Could use a refresh and some waterproof covers.
- It's not clear from the listings which units have the balconies. Both listings say "Beach view", but the unit I was in was in was on the back of the building, which I suppose is a beach view at an angle by sheer technicality? But that's not really in the spirit of a "beach view".
- Andrew (4/5): - It's not the best. It was probably great at one time, and it needs some love to get it back to what it was.
First issue, it says 2nd floor. It's actually the 4th. The first floor is a business, so you walk up a flight of stairs to the first suite. Then you walk up another flight of stairs getting you to the door for where we stayed, and then you open the door and have to walk up another flight of stairs. It's the 4th floor. Fine if that doesn't matter to you, but if you're older or have an issue with stairs, it's no fun.
next: No A/C. it's summer, it's basically the attic, it was hot. The ceiling fan was very wobbly and looked like it could fall at any minute so I didn't leave it on all night for fear of it falling on my daughter.
next: the shower is held on with masking tape and you can hear the wind blowing through the handle from the outside.
next: bed and pull out are both very old and uncomfortable, the pillows were as thin as paper. The couch was covered in moth or burn holes.
The company that runs it is great. They were very communicative and super friendly. I just honestly think it's been a long time since this one has gotten the update that it badly needs.
- Don (10/5): - It served our needs perfectly. The kitchen is well equipment. . We did have a door lock that was not working and it was quickly taken care of by management.
- John (8/5): - The unit had alot of stairs. It was huge though.
The 2 beds were not very comfortable. The kitchen was pretty well equipped.
- Patricia (10/5): Exceptional - It was very quiet and close to the beach. Climbing the stairs. I have bad knees
- Monica (6/5): You get what you pay for - The property was not well maintained inside. It was fine for just the 2 of us for a couple days, bed and couch were comfortable, but there was a lack of attention to detail from the cleaning folks (tops of fan blades super dirty, track of sliding glass door was gross, TONS of sand swept under the rug) and things were in general disrepair (strange drywall work in the closet, showerhead duck taped, dead batteries in remote, clocks set wrong, ancient appliances). Its great if you are just needing a place to stay, but it your looking for particularly nice or fancy accomodations, this is not your vacation rental. Although the price should have clued you in. The hot water heater is tiny, only enough for one person to have a 10 min shower. We are generally not very picky people and we would stay here again if it werent for the electricity output from the outlets being so poor we could not charge anything while we were there. Husband had his phone on the charger all night and it only went up 10%. Could not charge anything else either. We need GPS to get home, so the electricity thing is kind of what did it for us.
- whitney (8/5): - It was quiet and peaceful..
- Rick (5/5): The parking lot needs work, as well as the room could use some remodeling. - The stairs are too steep and should be on the information. If I knew about the stairs I would’ve stayed at another location. My wife has a bad hip, I have bad knees and it was difficult getting up the stairs. The room was clean.
- Jeanine (4/5): The facility is very old, to include linen & utensils. There are 3 steep staircases not mentioned and no elevator. T - it was clean It had 3 flights of stairs not mentioned in overview
- Larry (8/5): - Property was clean and well stocked with toilet paper, towels and such. Furniture is old but comfortable though queen bed was rather small, more like full size. Larger than we were expecting. Windows faced east and north, so really no ocean view. Only con: listing stated 2 bedroom that sleeps 4 for said price but we were charged extra $10 a night for each of our 2 kids (extra $40). Total price for 4 should be listed.
- Verified traveler (6/5): New matresses wouldnt hurt - Very clean but the furniture appears to be thrift store finds and the mattresses are very uncomfortable/worn out. Nice place otherwise.
- Flora Elaine Diaz (6/5): - The smoke detectors were hanging open with no batteries in them, which was very concerning.
- Thanh (6/5): - Should have newer linens, they’re too old & stain on them. The couches look dirty. Base on COVID around nowadays, very uncomfortable to use them.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Private. Quiet. Small and cozy. Clean. Perfect! We will stay here again!
Could use a new kitchen sponge for every guest and a few personal touches like a couple books or a board game but we loved this place!
- Austin (6/5): Good enough - Was disappointed in the lack of air flow upon arrival was extremely hot. The TV needed replacing. The back door could use a screen. Would have been nice to have furniture to sit on while on patio. Not really worth the price.
