- Mark_G. (3/5): Dirty! - The location is perfect if you are walking the West Highland Way.
The girl behind the bar was very friendly and helpful.
The evening meal was decent enough at a reasonable price. Room 2 was generally tatty & dirty. Carpets needed a good clean. The whole room and bathroom need a really good clean. None of the 3 lights above the beds worked, and neither did the light in the bathroom. Towels & linen were way past their sell by date and needed replacing. The shower leaked and was filthy & mouldy. The bottom sheet on the bed didn't fit properly. The toilet flush was dodgy and needed attention. The carpet along the landing was filthy, and the floor boards were VERY loud and creaky. All this for £160 per night with NO breakfast included! It's clear that they are just cashing in on being in the right place on the WHW route and not spending any money on maintenance or improvements. I would avoid it if possible
- Ciaran (4/5): For the location the Tailrace is in a great location however there are sadly issues with the rest of the room. - Location of Tailrace Inn is great for anyone walking through Kinlochleaven. Unfortunately, staying in Room 4, the bathroom flooring had wrapped and was splitting/coming away from the floor itself.
The room wasn’t particularly clean, dust along the skirting boards.
When looking for a wall plug, moving the bedside table revealed an open and discarded condom packet.
The prices was exceptionally high, whilst not including breakfast, 1 night stay was £189.

- Allison (4/5): Very expensive for a very standard pub like accommodation. - Location Could have been cleaner. I had asked for twin beds but got a small double. Floor / carpet could have been a lot cleaner.
- Jean (6/5): After a long days walk it was sufficient. - Location was good Curtains in our room were not clean, creaky floors & paper thin walls.
- Sarah (5/5): Disappointed - The location We were sad to revisit this hotel and see that it looks like no money or care has been put into it in a very long time.
We were walking the WHW and were using a luggage courier service. Our bags were stored in their bothy, which had fat on the floor from abandoned kitchen appliances.
Perhaps it has changed hands since our last visit?
We chose not to eat there.
- Katherine (9/5): We enjoyed our short stay at this quiet facility. - Facility is nicely located in town. You have walking distance to the coffee shop and the Coop store. The staff is very friendly and informative. The room was clean and we had plenty of pillows and towels. It was very quiet and we had a wonderful nights sleep during our stay. Bathroom toilet needs to be adjusted it rocks when you sit on it from the base and also the seat. This is an easy adjustment, I'm sure they will fix it once they read this note. I wouldn't worry too much about it if you are reading this as a review.
- Alexandra (5/5): good location - location some confusion due to language barrier with staff, easily resolved but
- John (4/5): Great food, but poor value for money given the 'state' of the bedroom/en-suite. - The location was perfect for the West Highland Way, the staff were very friendly/welcoming and the evening meal was absolutely fantastic. The size, standard and cleanliness of our bathroom left a lot to be desired! The toilet had not been cleaned properly (I won't describe its state on arrival!) and the general cleanliness of the en-suite was really disappointing, with a leaking and dirty shower and a 'years old' tatty bath mat on the floor. On top of this, on the morning of our stay, the toilet wouldn't flush!!!
- Jessie-May (7/5): A good stay - Great location and comfy bed Very squeaky floors and thin walls
- David (9/5): A fabulous stay! - Location, next to the Green Wellies… very useful!!! The staff were very friendly, helpful and understanding… the restaurant was cosy, and the food was tasty! The room was clean, and a view over to the hills and mountains. There was an issue with the heater, but apart from that it was a pleasant little room. Traffic is load, but I sent well enough.
- Wayne (5/5): Quick stay over. - Overall not a bad place to stay, with a decent pub and food. Lights above bed did not work, could do with some new pillows.
- M Yigit (10/5): -
- Shannon (10/5): Loved it! Would come back! - The room was more than adequate and it was nice and cool when we slept, which was perfect because the summer days were hot!
The staff was so friendly and the pub food was excellent! The space was clean and comfortable!
I was worried because I had seen so many negative reviews... and if you are hiking WHW, it was one of our favorite places we stayed! It was great!
- Ellen (6/5): -
- Lynne (1/5): Not a good place to rest for anyone walking and us looking for comfort and good refreshments. - The location. Not very welcoming.
Hallway smelled of old chip fat and it was also like a furnace with the tumble dryers contributing to a already very hot day. Bedding felt very worn, bed was wobbly. Managed to make dinner before 9pm after walking for 9 hours and felt like we were being rushed. Bar was closed about 9:30pm so we had to go elsewhere. Seating in bar was ripped.
- Jackie (2/5): Very unpleasant and wouldn’t recommend. - Location as doing West Highland Way. Unhelpful staff, poor standard of furnishings and decor. Towels worn and threadbare, broken toilet seat and shower not providing hot water. Hotel needs to be closed for a full renovation of the rooms, and staff need training on customer service.
- Paulius (8/5): N/a - View around the location N/A
- Iain (3/5): Cheap & cheerful, but we are glad we had sleeping bags - get the heating and window fixed in room 3! - Kinlochleven is a lovely village. I'm grateful to the bar keeper who stayed on to check us in. The beds were quite comfy. The heating did not work. The window was broken and could not be properly closed. The room was cold. Fortunately, we had taken sleeping bags with us and so we took them in from the car and these, on top of the duvets, kept us warm. There was a fan like noise coming from the room next door which was on for most of the night.
- Kerstin (2/5): Would not recommend to a friend. - Convenient for walking the WHW. Everything was old and dated. The towels were unraveling around the edges and looked very old. Did not get a good night sleep as everything was creaking.
- Vicki (1/5): - Unfair rating as booking was changed to another hotel
- Jenny (7/5): - Power outage so we were transferred to sister Hotel which was lovely!!
- Singh (10/5): -
- Ryan (8/5): -
- Meryll (8/5): - La literie mériterait d’être améliorée.
- Marcisko (7/5): - The location is quite nice The room was a bit overpriced but we understand that you pay for the location here, so that's understandable.
- sean (2/5): Not again - Staff serving breakfast Overpriced
Breakfast extra
Poor standard of accommodation
Worn towels
- sean (2/5): Don’t go - When we left it No real greeting…had to pay for breakfast… very expensive for what we got.
- Bryan (8/5): Great location on Loch Leven, comfortable stay. - Great location above the Loch. Bar menu had good variety and service and food was good. Older facility, small space, leaky shower. Nightstand had missing foot.
- Michael (6/5): -
- Diana (8/5): - Great location, good food Too expensive
- Dean (6/5): Not worth the price - It's in a beautiful area Beds were no better than camping cots.
The floor outside our door squeaked like it was ready to collapse every time someone passed and unfortunately we were in the room everyone had to pass.
The towels were thread bare.
But worst of all, it was the most expensive of our stays in Scotland and the worst rooms.
- Thomas (4/5): Have dinner at the pub, then camp in a tent. - The pub was warm and comfortable with good food, and friendly and helpful staff The hotel rooms were outdated. The bed was small and uncomfortable. The matresa should have been replaced 10 years ago. The shower door wouldn't close. I would have been more comfortable in a tent.
- David (5/5): -
- MARDI (7/5): - Lovely dog in the pub made up for everything. Meal was goog Too expensive for what it offered
- Deborah (6/5): warm and dry! - location. convenience room very tired. didn’t guarantee a stable for residents
- Laura (8/5): Good for a nights sleep comfy bed - Great would book again Slightly grubby eating tables
- philip (10/5): -
- Ben (6/5): - Great location Cleanliness and facilities
- Jan Jaap (5/5): Een zielloos oude herberg - Prima gezellig ogende herberg op de West Highlandway. Lekkere douche. Eten is goed. Oude kamer, geraffelde handdoeken, doorliggende matrassen, ontbijt erg schraal / minimaal.
- Richard (10/5): Incredible location. Lovely pub downstairs with great food and lovely staff. Dog friendly - Amazing location, dog friendly, pub downstairs did amazing food, staff were very helpful and nice. Bedrooms were a little dated but they were clean and comfortable.
- kym (2/5): - Leaving Bathroom and bed was disgusting
- Jones (2/5): - Location Shower was awful and noise from Karaoke was even worse. Room was dirty
- Rozaini (8/5): -
- Robert (5/5): - Look, the guys behind the bar were great, but come on this place hasn't been refurbished since Jesus was a little boy
- Linda (8/5): - Convenience It was hot and the midges kept us from keeping the windows open. Beyond your control but did decrease our comfort
- Gerard (3/5): -
- Paul (1/5): Very disappointed - It wasn’t clean the room was really dated and the bedding looked like it had been there for decades never mind years , the bedding looked was very uncomfortable so not much sleep Nothing
- Graeme (5/5): Nice location, friendly staff - N/A Beds were small and way too soft
- Bhanukiran (3/5): - No response from the owner Its useless to say about it.
- Hun (2/5): - I can see why people chose to sleep in tents near the town. I chose this place despite bad reviews because it was the only room available. Staff was not that helpful and the room didn't feel clean (mostly because the building itself is old, not necessarily because they didn't clean well). Bed was very uncomfortable. Wouldn't have complained if it was affordable but didn't feel like the price justified the quality of stay. Food at the bar was very bad.
- Daniela (5/5): - The beds

- silvia (4/5): - Ubicacion Cama incomodisima
Ropa de cama horrible
Toallas muy viejas
Baño pequeño
- Nigel (1/5): - No air con in rooms and over priced
- Jennifer (7/5): Cute and cosy - Room clean. Staff friendly. In a good location There was a beeping noise the whole night - we were in room 3 not sure where it was coming from but it beeped all night and made our sleep unsettled
- Martyn (9/5): nice place well looked after by staff - good value for money, evreything we needed
- Neil (3/5): - Staff were lovely Noisy, dated and needs major overhaul.
- Felix (8/5): -
- Monika (8/5): -
- steve (7/5): - Position
Meals Mattress and pillows
- Shaun (2/5): Very dated decor beds were uncomfortable -
- marc (7/5): -
- Piet (8/5): - Pub in the same building. Food was decent. Staff was friendly. Road quit close to the window although this did not keep us awake. Traffic pretty much stopped by bed time.
- Gabi (4/5): -
Zimmer ziemlich warm…
- Kelsey (6/5): - Staff was not particularly interested in going out of their way to help.
- Sandy (6/5): -
- Glyn (2/5): -
- Alan (7/5): A good choice for a weary West Highland Way walker - Friendly staff. Good food. Great location for West Highland Way Toilets could do with work. Handwashdispensers broken and doesn't look like recently. Either replace or remove. Not expensive but would leave a better impression. Mattress on beds very very worn. Again not a huge cost.
- Bianka (6/5): - Good location, quick and easy check in. The carpet in the rooms was very dirty and the beds uncomfortable.

- Alexander (7/5): -
- William (7/5): Good stopping point on our West Highland Way walk -
- Mark (1/5): Shocking , the hotel should be condemned. - Awful smelly place .
The heating made an awful noise in the room and unable to turn it off , room was boiling hot in June.
Very creeky floorboards in the corridor that vibrated in the bedroom.Missing ceiling light left with an open socket.Bedside light missing a pull cord and bulb.no to remote . Breakfast not included Ditto
