- colmal29 (9/5): - Staff zoom food and family
- Richard (7/5): Pleasant stay - The property has a great vibe and the staff were wonderful (especially Nia who even offered to take us to the airport when we found ourselves in a pickle). The food served in the restaurant at the property was also very good. The breakfast could be better and some of the amenities were outdated or worn.
- Malathi (9/5): It was a lovely two days . We got locked out of the safe the night before we were supposed to leave. I rushed to the res - The location , the cleanliness . Not having a phone in the room & limited service .

- Charles (9/5): We had a glorious time at Waterfront Lodge. - The property is beautiful; well located; very comfortable; and above all has the most wonderfully kind and attentive staff, who made our stay very pleasurable. Thank you!! Though the bathroom was well designed and spacious, it lacked a towel rail and any hooks to hang your clothes, which was a little inconvenient.
- Motuliki (7/5): - Clean comfortable close to town Service staff to be a little more observant and diligent
- Lei (8/5): -

It felt like a second home and we felt very safe and valued as a guest we hope to return for a holiday next year and look forward to staying at Waterfront Lodge again. The only thing i didnt like is that my holiday was too short. My husband and I will definitely be back.

- Peter (9/5): Very pleasant - The guest house feel and friendly staff
- Thorir (7/5): Thank you to staff and people there, they made me feel welcome and at home. - The service was excellent, the people were incredibly helpful and nice. The beer was cold :). The room was spacious, high ceilings, in room fridge, good aircon, nice verandah and bed was fine. The bathroom could do with a little TLC but was passable. Traffic on the road the hotel is on gets a little much, as in when there are noisy cars, you hear it, but you get used to it. And it's only occasionally. The bathroom needs a little uplift but was still fine. It is a Seaview room, but you really can't see the sea through the foliage, some of the plants just need a little trimming.
- Rodney (10/5): Very enjoyable - Friendly staff great stay. Great breakfast.
- Marco (10/5): -
- Ronit (8/5): Nice lodge! - Good location, near the center.
Nice room, very nice staff. The restaurant is pricey.
- Julie (10/5): Loved the Waterfront Staff were exceptional Nia is so amazing! - Location excellent right across from
Harbour as we went on boat daily Whale swims!
Staff were the highlight just so lovely and put to please……
The restaurant was the best in town too! We were able to gather on balcony each afternoon as we were a group of 8 a beautiful garden outlook.
Lots of noise, but that’s Tonga, church bells ringing early in the morning and dogs barking so Ear Plugs a must!! Noise but it wouldn’t deter me from staying again….
I think Waterfront is best accommodation in town!
- Szilvia (10/5): -

- Lisa (9/5): Pleasant. Will be back. - Good location opposite the wharf. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Garden at the front shades the balcony which is a lovely spot to sit and relax in.
Restaurant downstairs has a good range of dishes and was very popular.
Staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant downstairs could get a bit noisy.
- 60camillaq (10/5): Nice Hotel - The hotel was very nice and friendly and professional, The food in the restaurant was very good the location is also good with an easy 10 min walk to the cbd
- Marta (10/5): the best hotel in Tonga - nice rooms, amazing food, super nice staff, perfect location shower was a bit dated and smelly but the room itself is lovely

- pianofortismo73 (10/5): 🌺 Great stay and delicious food - We spent a few days at the Waterfront Lodge and were very pleased with our experience.
The staff was always friendly and helpful, welcoming our requests with kindness.
The food was truly a highlight – delicious, beautifully presented, and made with fresh ingredients.
A peaceful, well-kept place with a lovely atmosphere.
We definitely recommend the Waterfront Lodge to anyone looking to relax and enjoy excellent food while staying in Nukuʻalofa.
- D6750WJpaulat (10/5): Great spot to relax - Lovely relaxed vibe... spacious upstairs room with large private balcony area.
Also, a great shared outside balcony with couches for larger family groups... we sat here and played cards after our whale swims:)
Food was delicious... loved the Poke bowl

- Varjabedian (10/5): My Time in Tonga - I loved the ambiance of days gone by. HOWEVER, the facilities were modern ( ie; AC, hot water, cleaning service daily, etc. ).
The free Continental breakfast was fine.
The restaurant was excellent. It was pretty much full every night. By law, the country closes down on Sunday. However, they DO serve breakfast AND give you a box lunch.
I understand that there are other restaurants that are legally open on Sundays but I did not avail myself of it.
Also, there is a boat to a nearby island on Sunday but no facilities ( except shelter ). Bring your box lunch - a la Robinson Crusoe.
- Lia (10/5): comfy and has distinctive atmosphere - a little gem, really loved the vibe, comfy bed and room in an old historical building when I arrived a bit late at night, the reception was closed, and no one was there. But the staff arrived soon after calling them.
- Zaid (8/5): Very good -
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brendon (9/5): Great place to stay and meals are awesome. - Great place to stay and all staff are super helpful and awesome having restaurant attached to accommodation Nothing.
- Michael (9/5): Pacific Elegance - Exceptional service from the warm and welcoming staff. The accommodation was comfortable, and the dining experience was exquisite. The location was convenient to Nuku’alofa CBD, with fair and reasonable rates.
- Sian (8/5): Very good -

- Dream37547216334 (10/5): Love the Waterfront - I always appreciate staying at the Waterfront Lodge. I have been there a number of times between 2023 and 20204. They serve great food (especially the Palusami), feature cute and clean rooms, and the staff create a very personal atmosphere.
- Jmak6770 (8/5): A+ Customer service, Staff, location, comfort, restaurant - Our family had an excellent stay at this hotel, thanks to the exceptional customer service, which truly went above and beyond. The rooms were secure and well-maintained, and the hotel offers a safe car park along with reliable Wi-Fi. The location is fantastic, directly across from the wharf, making it easy to catch a ferry, and it's conveniently close to a variety of bars and restaurants.
The rooms themselves are spacious and comfortable, featuring cool, efficient air conditioning, cozy beds, and private outdoor balconies with seating. A free continental breakfast is served downstairs each morning, and they also offer the option of a hot breakfast at no extra cost—such a nice touch. The hotel’s lunch and dinner menus are also excellent, with a great selection of dishes that never disappoint.
On Sundays, many places are closed in the area, but the hotel makes sure you’re still taken care of. The restaurant continues to serve breakfast for guests, and they offer a few cold packed lunch options if you're heading out for the day, such as the Sunday ferry to Pangaimotu, just 10 minutes away. Additionally, they offer a same-day laundry service, so you don’t have to worry about finding a local laundromat. This gives you more time to relax or explore the area without any added stress.
While the overall experience was fantastic, there are a few minor things to note. The stairs have a small trip hazard at the top, so it’s worth being cautious. The water pressure in the shower could be a bit stronger, and there's a rooster that crows at 4 AM and then every couple of hours after that. This is typical for Tonga, and you do get used to it after a few days.
Another small suggestion would be to trim some of the palm trees in front of the hotel to allow for a clearer view of the ocean from the balconies. However, the palms also provide a nice level of privacy from passersby. Each balcony is divided by a privacy screen that goes halfway, which wasn’t an issue for us as we stayed next to family and could easily chat by pulling our chairs closer.
One thing to consider is the TV only offers two channels, so it’s not great for watching entertainment. It would be a nice addition if the hotel had smart TVs with access to streaming services like Netflix or YouTube via Wi-Fi.
Despite these minor points, I would definitely book here again and highly recommend it for its excellent service, great location, and overall comfort.
- scottn949 (6/5): Know before you click " reserve room" - The staff are all amazing and their restaurant food saves this review, but know this... Don't count on an airport shuttle, even if confirmed, they did a no-show at 1:30am, so just take a taxi. This hotel is shut down on Sundays, no service after breakfast, they have a rooster on the grounds that of coarse crows from 4am onwards, super annoying and not conducive to a hotel for sleeping at all. Did I mention that I loved the staff and restaurant? Worse of all... If you want to chill in your room and watch TV, you won't be, they have only two channels, both fuzzy, and nothing in English. They say their "antenna " is still down, yes antenna, which fell over two years ago, so don't plan on this ace getting digital soon.
- Isabell (6/5): Pleasant -
- Wineaux (8/5): Lot's of local flavor, and an at-home ambiance. - The restaurant was nice, good food with both local and continental choices. However, if you're short on time, get there early. This place filled up quickly with both locals and hotel guests dining there. Better yet, for dinner make a reservation.
Nia was great to us. Both she and the owner were absoutely wonderful. I could have used more floor coverings, or a bigger covering.
Carrying baggage up and down the one flight of stairs (but I was warned).
- Jacquie (6/5): Pleasant -
- jorN1661SS (8/5): Enjoyed it so much we extended our stay - The staff, especially Daphne, were very friendly and helpful. Lovely big rooms and huge bed. Food is delicious & Wednesdays night live music fantastic.
We would have preferred the privacy screens between balconies to go all the way to the ground but that’s a minor issue.
- Fiona (9/5): Lovely stay. Comfortable room and great restaurant - Comfortable room. Lovely staff. Good restaurant A little far from town
- Natalia (5/5): No sleep for three nights ((( - Nice building, nice decoration, decent breakfast comparing to other places in Tonga, big rooms, nice balcony. If you want to sleep, you won't be able to!
Loud music plays in the nearest building until 1 a.m. This music literally vibrates the walls and floor in the room, and your bed as well, so earplugs won't help you. And at 4 a.m. roosters start crowing right under your windows.
In the best case, you can sleep normally just 2-3 hours maximum.
On Fridays, live music plays in the hotel restaurant until 10 p.m., which also vibrates the walls, because there is no soundproofing.
At night, there are no employees at all in the hotel, and if something happens, you have no one to ask for help.
In our case, for some reason, the hotel took a very long time to respond to our requests. We tried to organize a transfer from the airport, wrote to the hotel, but they simply did not answer us for days. In the end they finally confirmed the transfer, but we were chasing them for a couple of days.
Water in the shower is not stable, it switches from hot to cold every few minutes.
- missywombat (8/5): On the Waterfront... - This was an overnight stay on a Friday night. It is a comfortable hotel run under the watchful eye of Liz Cowley who has standards and makes sure her staff achieve them.
Rooms are clean and comfortable with a comfortable bed. Plenty of power points. Balcony but we didn't use ours as the smoking area was located underneath.
You will need a door code for the door at the top of the stairs and watch the top step especially when descending as it is a bit of a tripping hazard.
The food is reasonable and it was nice to see some Tongan items on the menu.
The lass who was singing in the restaurant area did a lovely job and we were most impressed by the dishwasher who came out to sing - the man was a warm operatic voice and is completely self-trained. However it gets a bit noisy in the restaurant as a result especially when it is full. You could hear the music in the bedrooms but it all stopped by 10 pm when the restaurant area closes.
It's about 2 km to the main street and the traffic along Vuna Rd on Saturday was continuous especially as it was raining. If you are after an ATM the closest one is at the Small business centre about 2 blocks east past the fish markets.
- Andrew (6/5): Rustic, colonial accommodation . The rudeness of the owner was damaging. - Easy walk to town and the communal balcony was lovey to sit playing cards in the evenings. ..Secure car parking was a bonus too . The restaurant food was better than average and definitely drew a crowd. Advertised as providing a flat screen TV, which it did. It worked but there were no TV stations, DVD player or DVDs available to watch. The owner was dismissive, arrogant and very rude when approached on numerous enquiries. Plan ahead if you are there on a Sunday as meals not available. Mosquitos bad- we arrived late and they'd left the lights on and the door open, bitten so much overnight that we actually thought it was bed bugs. Waterfront view is minimal and not really worth the extra. Garden view was a clothes line and a carpark.
- Dixon (8/5): Very good -
- Phillipa (10/5): Fantastic - Comfortable, nice restaurant, friendly staff
- Saili (8/5): Very good -
- Yvonne (9/5): we had a lovely stay at The Waterfront and would highly recommend it to others - beautiful garden and a few spots throughout to lounge, peaceful despite being on main road, large rooms, beds firm but not too firm, friendly staff, Liz always looking out to help guests, restaurant dinners are the best in town - and live entertainment on Friday nights, breakfast always has fresh fruit, continental options and one hot meal choice that changed daily (had to pay extra if wanted something different, but never felt the need to) TV didn't have reception and is quite small, although didn't really need to watch tv, wifi a bit glitchy at times, can be a bit loud when live entertainment is on but always shuts down between 10-11 - we found staying at the garden side more peaceful than seaview side
- Jody (10/5): Brilliant - The staff at the Waterfront were absolutely amazing, so lovely and caring. A special mention to Nia who went out of her way to make our stay in Tonga so special. The food and service is excellent! The nightclub next door was so loud at night! But that was the only downfall. Take earplugs
- Madison (9/5): Superb - I felt really calm and at peace staying at the water lodge. The environment is really beautiful and green. The Wi-Fi was great and I loved that I didn’t even need to leave for anything because the food and service was amazing!
- Natalie (9/5): Charming lodge in a great location. - The lodge was absolutely charming. It had a warm and comfortable personality that made me feel more like I was at a home instead of a hotel. Also, the food there was outstanding and was some of the best food I had in Tonga - it far exceeded my expectations. Checkout was a bit challenging as the “right” person wasn’t there when I wanted to check out.
- Adams (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff, welcoming and polite. The continental breakfast that's included in your stay was delicious. Thank you Waterfront and staff. Nothing at all.
- Viv (9/5): Superb -
- Melinda (6/5): It’s okay, good restaurant, nice staff - Good breakfast.
It’s a tad run down, but good luck finding ok accommodation on this Island, the waterfront is better than most. Bathroom
- Rose (9/5): Great location. Feel at home here. - Great location across the street from Deep Blue for whale swim tours. Easy walk to town. Excellent restaurant and staff. Great service. Small Inn. Feel welcomed and valued here at the Waterfront. Occasional neighborhood dogs barking, church bells but otherwise quiet and serene. Bathroom plumbing did have some odors. But, they are old pipes.
- Wim (9/5): Wonderful people, wonderful place - Great staff. Comfortable room with nice garden view balcony Nothing
- Danielle (8/5): Perfect for our short stay on Tongatapu - We had a day between connecting flights within Tonga. This hotel met our needs for a shot 2 night trip. The hotel was very cute and the restaurant had good food. The staff were friendly and attentive. The hotel is in a walkable location. We arrived very late at night and had to wait for a while for someone to let us in to check in and get our room key. While annoying it was a minor inconvenience.
- Amanda (8/5): A comfortable oasis in the heat and disadvantage of Tonga. - Breakfast was standard continental with a couple of fruit juice options and a small plate of fresh fruit, plus (nice surprise) a hot breakfast option, different daily. The garden view balcony from our room was a shady and sheltered area ideal for a quiet read or chat over a drink. Staff and management are friendly, approachable and efficient. The TV in the room was not really watchable, but we were not there to watch tv anyway, lol. The restaurant, while having an interesting menu, did not live up to its reputation. The food was average and inconsistent - to be fair, perhaps there was a new or temporary chef. We elected to eat elsewhere after three nights.
- Saia (9/5): Superb -
- Haynesta (8/5): Colonial Homestay - This felt more like a quaint, colonial homestay with rooms above reception and the restaurant. Rooms were accessible by stairs only and each had a balcony. The rooms were well furnished and comfortable with adequate storage. Breakfast was served in the ground floor restaurant with a good selection of cereals, bread, jams, juice tea and coffee; and a different hot dish was also available each day. The restaurant provided a good selection of meals, wines and beers. As with many facilities in Tonga, the restaurant is not normally open on Sundays. Fortuitously, however, the owner opened on the Sunday of our stay. We didn't expect to find a bathroom hook and toilet roll holder missing or a rusty shower hose. Both shower heads were caked with calcium and the shower enclosure urgently needed cleaning, both glass and tiles; no hot water was provided at the wash basin. Maybe these were meant to be part of the rustic feel of the house? Nevertheless, in spite of these quirks, the overall experience was good.
- Helenayatesworld (10/5): Hands down, best restaurant and menu 👌🏾 - Staff were so friendly and I’d say the absolute best menu and food on Tongatapu! Room was big and spacious. Location awesome for island day trips and whale tours. Would definitely recommend and will stay here again when we visit next. Magical island, beautiful people, wonderful accomodation, hands down the best place to eat.
- Helena (9/5): Superb -
- Viv (9/5): Superb -
- Evita (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bloome (9/5): It was comfortable, clean and quiet, even though it was on a busy street. Thank you!!! - The breakfast was lovely and they were able to accomodate our need for gluten free food. The restaurant meals were the best we had in Tongatapu. Not all the staff were aware that the restaurant could provide gluten free food for breakfast, so the first morning we just had our own food.
- Wendy (9/5): Superb -
- Fernando (10/5): Exceptional -
