• Stuart (10/5): - Beautiful location. This was my second time staying at hotel Senke. Miwa san and all the staff are amazing. Very friendly and helpful with anything I need. Onsen was very relaxing each day after the snow. Plan to keep coming back. Highly recommend.

Tried to charge 40usd for an extra blanket. Wanted to charge for a 3 year old kid sleeping on own provided bed. Room not the cleanest, mould on the walls. Very expensive for what you get

• SELINA (10/5): Great location and great family to stay with. - I stayed with Hotel Senke before in 2018 and the host lady still remembered me, the whole family is so friendly and it made our stay feel special. The hotel is only 200m from Akakura onsen ski resort so the location is excellent for us too.
• Jamie (8/5): Fun stay in traditional Japanese hotel - Really simple traditional hotel right in the centre of town. Rooms are very simple and small with mattresses on the floor. Not much space for luggage. That said it seemed clean and we slept well. It was fun for a few nights! Excellent drying room. Its a very simple traditional, inexpensive set up right in the heart of Akakura. Communal showers via onsen set up takes getting used to but were ultimately fine. Note that rooms very small, we had a twin and it was busy!

Peaceful spot despite being right in the middle of everything. Easy walk to the bus stop and the Akakura Onsen lifts. Nice breakfast (Western or Japanese) and the woman who runs the hotel is so super helpful with everything (embarrassed that I didn't catch her name!) It's quite basic, but has everything you need.

• Morten Andre (5/5): Great location, but needs some renovation to be more up to date. - Very friendly staff! The location on main street is very good, a short walk to restaurants and bars. A short walk to the buss terminal i Akakura Onsen and the tourist information. Good and varied breakfast. The rooms are not very clean, and has a smell of mold. The futons are a bit hard to sleep on and the lighting in the room is limited. A bit loud with the main street right outside the window, bring earplugs:)
• jo_munro_ (9/5): Exactly What I Hoped For - I stayed here for six nights and had a great time with Miwe and the rest of the team, family I believe. I loved staying in the Japanese style room, it was warm and bright, had wifi, all the amenities you could need, very comfortable and quiet. The location right on the main street is perfect. The drying room was so efficient it kept everything dry and very accessible. The onsen was so nice after a day on the slopes and me having a small tattoo wasn't a problem. The breakfasts were delicious and changed slightly each day, meaning I got variety and to try different food that otherwise wouldn't have been as accessible. I'm gluten and dairy free and they made sure the food was safe and delicious for me. They also run Mr Burger so its convenient for dinner as well if you dont want to go out and they also accomodated my dietary restrictions in the restaurant as well. Miwe also had lots of advice to help my trip run smoothly and sent my snowboard on for me at the end. Thank you for everything, you helped make this a trip to remember. I will be back.

• Sarah (8/5): - The rooms did not look anything like the pics. The actual rooms are smaller & have green tatami. No floor chairs as pictured but you get cushions. Maybe they have halved the room size over the years to make more rooms? The rooms weren’t bad, I still would have booked it but they just weren’t as pictured. No tea or hot water in your room but there was tea & hot water dispensers on each floor, but the tea was either really weak, didnt work properly or needed to be refilled as it was just hot water with a couple of tea leaves in the bottom. We did try both floors dispensers. It wasnt fixed the 6 days we stayed. Onsen is closed between 9-3pm for cleaning & the heaters in the rooms don’t work between those times. There’s no elevator so if you have heavy big luggage & can’t carry it yourself ask for a lower room. The hotel has everything you need though! Miwa san dealt with foreign guests & she is lovely. Explained about resorts & busses and gave us discount coupons &maps for the resorts we wanted to go to. Theres a folder with info in the room about attractions& all the bus times. There’s a drying room with locks for your ski & snowboard. It’s great location in the middle of the street with all the restaurants& shops around. You can easily walk to the bus and down to Akakura onsen resort. The indoor onsen uses natural water you can see the minerals floating and don’t get too hot with the windows next to it. There is yukata, rooms are warm, coin laundry and free massage chair.

• Verified traveler (10/5): Hidden Gem in Myoko - We had a fantastic stay at Hotel Senke. The staff were wonderful and so helpful. It was so nice to stay in a traditional Japanese hotel with an Onsen- so relaxing after a days skiing

• Patrick (6/5): centrally located but noisy and old - The best part of the Hotel Senke is the main street location in Akakura Onsen which for the first night was also a disadvantage as we discovered because we were in a room facing the street and had practically no sleep between midnight and 5am because the snow clearing machines were making constant loud noise. Fortunately the hosts moved us to another room away from the street which was much quieter, although not totally peaceful. The room was small and had no bathroom or toilet so we needed to go outside the room to use the communal toilets or showers in the hotel onsen. The onsen was clean and hot which after a day's skiing was essential. We tried the Japanese breakfast one night but at 1500Y per night we could eat far cheaper and better in one of the local cafes. The hotel was old and for the price I felt it needed an update to modernise inclusions, sinks, bathrooms, carpets and common areas. The drying room and ski storage was functional and worked fine The WiFi was very slow and didn't work at all during peak usage times and not inside our room. The hosts were friendly and accommodating and spoke enough English to be able to answer all of our questions.
• Verified traveler (6/5): Stayed for 6 nights - Stayed for 6 nights on tatami so if you have back issues you might want to find somewhere else with western beds. Noise from the street could be heard in the room especially when machines clearing snow nothing ear plugs cant fix if your a light sleeper. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Location is excellent. Both western and Japanese breakfasts good and filling.
• Verified traveler (4/5): Small room, small shared bathrooms. Few shared was - Bathrooms didn’t even have soap. Wash areas were dirty. Walls were thin and you can hear your neighbor talk at midnight while you try to sleep. Small rooms.
