Guest Reviews
- Martyna (7/5): Lovely stay for a family, but a bit pricey. - Close to the slopes and they have family rooms. Bit dated - we feel like we overpaid a bit for the standard.
- peng (7/5): -
- Adam (10/5): Super właściciele hotelu, świetne śniadania, miła atmosfera. -
- Michelle (7/5): - Great location. Small family run hotel. A bit run down. Quite basic.
- Stuart (10/5): -
- YULIN (9/5): -
- Kaine (8/5): Perfect location, beautiful view, great staff. - Perfect location, beautiful view, great staff. Interior could use an update. Accommodation was expensive, but the location is sought after during a high demand period.
- Kai Chun (7/5): -
- Victoria (6/5): - Serviceable room. Decently comfortable futons on tatami mat. Good size room. Great location. Onsen is like a prison cell. Heater in room cutoff at 3am and we were freezing. Parking is tight and we were lucky to get a spot.
- Angelica (8/5): Great location, dated building, great view. - Great location, cozy room, great view of the Main Street. Friendly staff gave us a complimentary ride to the train station! The building is a little funky. The reception area smelled of cigarettes.

- Kevin (10/5): - Amazing hospitality and attentive service by the owners. Facilities are dated, but well maintained. Natural hot spring bath was exceptional.
- IAN (9/5): - Good location
Helpful staff
Good value Missed the full Japanese toilet boasting my butt clean.
- Matthew (10/5): Excellent service from the staff who really go above and beyond to help you. Excellent location. - Excellent service from the staff who really go above and beyond to help you with whatever your request is. Excellent location. Onsen didn’t meet expectations, but overall the hotel was still good value for money.
- Paul (7/5): Good - Great location. Nice staff. Breakfast each morning was not bad. Shower etc was downstairs with the onsen which was annoying but not the end of the world. Hallways and games room etc very old and beaten up.
- Yujie (10/5): Exceptional - Great location. Friendly staffs. Great value!
- Tom (7/5): Good -
- Jack (8/5): Very good - Staff was fantastic & went above & beyond! The place was a little outdated
- Ernest (10/5): Comfortable stay - Friendly staff - English speaking. Breakfast was great, self-serve cereal and muesli was included on top of hot breakfast. Onsen available for guest was huge and great. They were also kind enough to give us a lift to Myoko Kogen Station on the day of departure. Only 100m walk to the chairlift.
- Ferri (7/5): Good -
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Jordan (6/5): Location, location, location - Location is prime, top of the main street with a glass elevator view of everything. Couldn’t leave our bags securely there whilst we waited for check in.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jan (9/5): Great location in Akakura Onsen. Small family run hotel. - Lovely staff Nothing to dislike
- Eva (7/5): Easy walk to lift and shops. Helpfu - This is a family business and the staff were always helpful and attentive despite being busy.
The onsen was lovely to be in after a day of skiing.
The location was excellent-
Close to all restaurants and the ski lifts. Unfortunately the rooms they had left when o booked were without a toilet/ bathroom. Hence it was extremely cold to go to the toilet in the night.
This will not be a problem if you are able to get a room with a toilet.
- Pei (7/5): Could be better and need an upgrade - Very well located in middle of town. Services was good and parking was convenient and there were some board games to play. Whole hotel very aged and run down and the bath is at ground floor which is next to door. So imagine u have to come out from room, suffer in the cold air to run to onsen to bathe. After bath u will suffer through the cold again to go back room. No breakfast and sleep on floor which was hard. Only one tiny pillow. Expensive considering what I get vs what I paid
- Lachlan (7/5): Good -
- Matthew (8/5): Great location..easy walk to ski lifts and restaurants - Location Nothing
- Chang (8/5): Very good -
- Laura (8/5): Very good - The owner was very helpful and spoke good enough English so we were able to ask him to make phone calls for us to book reservations etc. We had dinner at the hotel one night which was a great Japanese home cooked meal which we really enjoyed. Staff very friendly. Onsen downstairs was hot and relaxing. Nothing
- Ben (8/5): Very good - Location was amazing
- Knox (8/5): Very good - Comfortable rooms, good breakfast, good onsen Cold corridors, no communal area
- Knox (8/5): Very good - Excellent breakfast and they accommodated my children's tastes. Onsen was enjoyable Corridors were cold
- Samuel (8/5): Very good - Very close to Akakura Onsen ski field (5mins walk) and close to restaurants Hotel is a little dated but had a pleasant stay
- Phoenix (10/5): - Only the couple managing the property, doing all rooms and check in and dining. So be patient. Even they might not know much English they still provide great service and try to accommodate your needs.
Nice restaurants and convenient store around though most close early. Walking distance to the Akakura Obsen Ski area.
- Jacob (10/5): Excellent stay room was perfect and staff very helpful. - Location, service, size of room
- Jacquelyn (7/5): Good -
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Scott (8/5): Recommend - Close to town and ski entry Cold in hallways, cleaning of rooms only early and we got sick and hard to clean room
- Jamie (10/5): Friendly, central, family accommodation. Hot onsen. Nice food - Located right in the middle of Akakura Onsen the Star hotel is easy to access and then close to a number of restaurants, shops and bars.
The free shuttle bus cruises past so it’s easy to jump in and get to Kanko. Onsen ski field is a 5 min walk along the street. Bar across the road and ski rental. Convenience store next door - in evenings.
The family that runs Star Hotel is super kind and friendly. They’ll go out of their way to help.
Breakfast was great, enough food.
The Hotel is a bit tired but I think that’s par for the course around the area. Yes it’s a bit pricy but it’s the middle of peak winter season and you’re in snow paradise so …!
The bathroom communal onsen is small - but easy to get to yourself. The water is soooo hot - but great for a soak.
Smells great - authentic onsen water.
The big family room is basic, but a traditional Japanese type stay - sleeping on futons on tatami. Plenty of extra blankets provided. Gas heaters in room are effective but you wouldn’t leave them on at night so it does cool down.
Kotatsu is amazing to slip under, keep warm and rehydrate !!
Discount lift tickets from reception are good but cash only. You can pay by credit card at the ski field ticket offices.
- Katrina (1/5): Onsen was very gross - Located next to ski lift was good The onsen smelled very bad like rotten egg and black mould everywhere. Onsen water had a lot of thick sediment. It was very unpleasant to bathe, I had to shower after to feel clean. The room was very old and run down. We only booked for onsen and since it was unusable, I am giving a bad review. For $420 AUD a night, I expected better.
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional -
- Artur (8/5): The owners are lovely people who are willing to help at any stage, the location is also fantastic right in walking dista - Fantastic location, excellent customer service
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (7/5): Great location, comfortable, everyhti that we needed. - Onsen,. Location A little old, communal facilities
- Natalie (7/5): Myoko - Breakfast, staff were great. Elevator was great, lovely views straight down the main street. Onsen Could be a little cleaner. However is was hot and still amazing.
No drying room. Made it a little difficult to dry wet snow gear.
- Bin (8/5): Pleasant stay within expectations - Pleasant stay within expectations. Very helpful and polite staff. Please note there’s an elevator from the car park. Convenient. There’s a restaurant opposite the hotel in case you are having late dinner before 9pm. Cannot expect too much. Overall satisfactory stay
- Adam (4/5): Disappointing - location Extremely cold hotel, heaters emitted gas smell, not healthy, ventilation at hotel is poor, gas smell through out.
- Jack (8/5): Awesome place to stay. Friendly/helpful staff. Perfectly positioned at the head of the main street. - Awesome location, close to the ski field and restaurants. Incredibly nice and accomodating staff. They went out of their way to make breakfast for us early, when we had to leave before the normal breakfast time. Onsen was very nice. Good ski storage options. Seemed like it was mostly Japanese people staying here, so was awesome to have a slightly more cultural experience with the room style and breakfast. Highly recommend this place. -
- Frances (8/5): Very good - The food was exceptional - made and served with love. A true family business. We were made to feel like family.
- Tracy (6/5): Pleasant -
- Benjamin (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was great value and very tasty. Room was very traditional and I enjoyed staying 2 nights. Air conditioner helped room stay warm. I got lost trying to find where to check in as it was not on the floor you enter the building in. Some signage at the entrance would be good.
- Joyce (7/5): Good -
- Curran (8/5): great trip would be back - the breakfasts not much
- Barry (8/5): Very good -
- Curran (8/5): I would stay again - nice onsen not much. was all ok
- Florence (7/5): Good -
- Robyn (10/5): Akakura Star hotel - Great location and only a short walk to the ski area , bus station and local restaurants. Very basic but lovely staff and breakfast is a treat every morning
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location in the heart of Akakura village with rooms setup well.
- Verified traveler (8/5): A nice family run hotel - Basic, very good value family run hotel.
- TAK LAM (10/5): Comfort, Cozy Japanese living space - Traditional Japanese style living
Only there are stairs at enterance
Right next to bus stops and have foodies nearby
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Breakfast is beautiful. The rooms are large. The ski and tech room is fantastic. The staff are very helpful. Please respect the hôtel as a Japanese hôtel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
