Guest Reviews
- Andrew (5/5): Basic accommodation and facilities, but adequate for our needs. - Location was ideal, the staff very friendly.
Breakfast was good.
Parking outside to room was handy.. The place could do with a makeover.
The room was adequate if a little damp.
The beds weren't that comfortable
Couldn't have the windows open due to noisy guests outside in the pub area.
- Yvette (5/5): - The bed was very hard and not comfy at all. I didn't really sleep at all . I appreciate there were people upstairs. Very noisy people .and so not the hardings fault . But they were that loud that the light in the bathroom fell out due to the banging and running of children upstairs.
- Bridget (8/5): Nice overnight stay - Clean room Nothing
- Karen (9/5): -
- GARRY (7/5): All ok - Good location for donington park Bed comfort wasn’t great
- Nicky (10/5): Excellent value for money - Lovely pub with excellent facilities. We had a lovely spacious room, very clean and comfortable. The pub itself is lovely and we enjoyed a meal there, which was nice. The lady who looked after us was lovely. The only downside are the airplanes going over through the night, but that would only bother a light sleeper. The rest of the group slept through like a log...and the beds are very comfortable.
We will definitely be back! Thanks

- Butty (8/5): An enjoyable stay in a friendly and welcoming pub in a lovely area - We had been to Donington Park for the British Touring cars and booked the Hardinge Arms for the Sunday evening. We dropped the car off before the racing and the lady said it was fine for us to leave the car there for the day which was great. The pub was friendly as were the staff. They were not doing food on sunday evenings but that's not unusual so expected that but they said we could order a takeaway and eat it in the pub which was nice and they provided us with plates and cutlery so we couldn't have asked for more. The accommodation is separate to the pub and was ideal for what we needed for the night, it was comfortable and had everything we needed. We had breakfast the following morning which was served in the pub (we sat in the same seats where we had eaten our chinese the night before( and the breakfast was good. I was pleased to see plum tomatoes, i do enjoy a plum tomato which is often overlooked as a good breakfast ingredient these days. Overall a good stay It really wasn't a problem at all but the only think i would mention is that although Booking.com had the location of The Hardinge Arms in Melbourne, it is actually in the next village in Kings Newton. However it is an easy and enjoyable walk from Melbourne to Kings Newton

- Liz (10/5): Lovely pub/hotel, warm and friendly welcome and very comfortable. - Was super convenient for donington park race circuit which was the reason for our nights stay.
Lovely friendly staff, nice beer and overall fab place. The fridge was a little noisy when sleeping, but we established it was the cause and turned it off. This may be worth mentioning to guests as it could stop you sleeping. Not a major issue of course.

- Alan (9/5): Good stay will be returning - Location very good, did not have breakfast Room could do with a repaint and new carpet but overall was excellent.
- Cunny (10/5): The reason i booked was location to Donington park and the town on the doorstep 10/10 for location - The room was nice when we opened the door better than we was imagined.
room was very warm
tea coffee making facilities
small fridge
most of all the location is superb
the reason for booking 1.5 miles from Donnington. the shower was not powerful
there were a few dead blue bottle flies at the end of the bedding. when you pulled the duvet cover up they were lodged between the bed frame and duvet.
1st time room was hired this year i imagine.
breakfast was good not the best but was £10 each
barstaff not the most welcoming evening or 7am for breakfast no conversation interaction with them.
- Alister (9/5): Great venue with friendly staff! - Great clean accommodation - With friendly and helpful staff. Easy parking and close to my desired location. Food was not available but this was made clear and communicated well before my stay and they even suggested they were happy for me to bring other food back. So not really a negative
- Boyd (2/5): Stay away - the rooms do not represent a charge of £85.00, they are like old Butlins holiday rooms - Location was good No food being served in the pub on the Tuesday night, No breakfast, received an email telling me due to owners being on holiday, no breakfast would be allowed. No internet working in my bedroom at all, no TV working as the batteries on the remote were dead. No owners to rectify anything. In all a total disaster, are not worth the £85.00 they charged me, when I received the email saying no breakfast, I tried to cancel, but realized there were going to chare me 100% in full, so went through with the stay, to my total disappointment.

- Gary (6/5): Facilities good but noise of aeroplane not every 25 mins.. - Location was good, facilities was nice and clean Didn't sleep as the aeroplane landing path came over the top of hotel, the fridge made a noise and noisey residents above...
- Neil (8/5): - Excellent location, friendly staff
- Sylvia (4/5): - Holes in the carpet. Damp causing peeling paint.Massively over priced. Described as Melbourne but in next village.
- Lorraine (8/5): Friendly homely & helpful - Small and a bit cramped for three of us
The very noisy toilet & broken shower still didn’t take away from the excellent super friendly customer service of the Reception staff
- Brigitte (2/5): Lumpty!! - I love Kings Newton & see this area as a very desirable & well connected location to reach all of the major road networks from, so very well located for that. The room was quite cold on arrival, so I asked for top blankets.
The host smelt the blankets as she pulled them out of a cupboard from the next door cottage and reminded me that the rooms were once farm barns and spiders still loved the nooks & crevices, which I found amusing, because I have a sense of humour, but not appropriate for £110 per night no breakfast included!! The xarpet was very dirty in the doorway & the bed mattresses were tired & very lumpy!😉
- Paul (9/5): -
- Elena (8/5): Nice and quiet location - Cosy room and comfortable bed
- martin (8/5): - We were in a small annex behind the pub, the rooms were lovely, very comfortable and warm (we visited in December). We were made very welcome. Caroline was very helpful, she suggested some great local places to visit and could not have been more helpful. Definitely recommend this pub / b&b.
- Helen (3/5): Disappointing - Location as expected, friendly service The room was very tired and needed updating.
- foster (10/5): - The staff were very helpful and polite. The room was warm and comfortable. Breakfast was hot and good value for money
- Kim (3/5): Not worth the money. - Proximity to venue. Rooms very dated. Fridge in room very noisy and I couldn’t block the noise of it out. It kept changing pitch too.
Bowl placed under the sink in the bathroom to catch what must be a leak from the plumbing. Thought for what we paid it was too expensive. Part of carpet missing and remaining was grim.

- Marie-Eve (6/5): - Parkplatz vor dem Zimmer, trotz viel befahrenen Strasse ruhig. Hunde erlaubt. Zwar ist alles da was man braucht, aber sehr einfach. Auch alte Dusche mit Boiler zum Anstellen. Badezimmer /WC sehr klein, absolut keine Ablageflächen. Auch das Bett ist ausgelegen. Zimmer und WC sind sauber, aber der Schrank ist innen bestimmt länger nicht geputzt worden.
- Debbie (10/5): -
- Natalia (9/5): -
- David (8/5): - Very enjoyable two nights stay. A lovely location and close to sites we were visiting.
Thank you.
- Kevin (9/5): Great stay at Hardinge Arms - would have been excellent if pillows were thicker! - excellent room, slightly dated, but ideal for what we required. Easy to heat up room. Great breakfast, really good service The pillows were too thin - ended up putting a rolled towel underneath to get any height.
- Stephanie (5/5): - The pub was nice .room was ok needed a new rug as looked dirty but room was clean . Breakfast was not the best sauage was very poor and my poach egg was not cooked very well .was a bit over price for what you got .
- Colin (10/5): Very nice couple of days, very convenient for Donington Park circuit - Very nice, friendly N/A
- Bence (9/5): Great - Great location Wifi quite slow
- Roger (8/5): Comfortable, restorative and convivial - A pub with history and character, convivial bar with locals popping in and a well behaved Labrador enjoying the company (and any available treats!). Separate accommodation was peaceful with twin bedroom, bathroom plus wardrobe, TV and fridge. Ample adjacent parking and lovely outdoor space to enjoy food and drink. Great breakfast in the morning to set me up for the day. Staff were excellent. Nothing. This is not a Travelodge, Premier Inn or suchlike but in my opinion offers a much better experience when travelling. Support your pubs!
- Perkins (8/5): -
- Atchinson (6/5): Quick and easy check on out. Just what we needed to visit Donnington park. Clean and comfortable room overall. - Pleasant and clean, easy to find and convenient locate for Donnington park events Had to go into a bar full of drinkers with my son to get the key. Room was cold on arrival and had to turn the radiator up manually to warm up. Toilet was really noisy when the tank refilled.
- Michelle (10/5): -
- Julian (8/5): Just the sort of place we like to stay! - Just the sort of place we like. A pub with accommodation. Good food and drink, comfortable room and very friendly staff. all good!
- David (10/5): Comfortable room great food and very friendly - Good clean room great food and good exceptionally friendly and welcoming staff what more could you possibly ask for? Absolutely nothing
- Doreen (10/5): -
- Kristian (9/5): Great place to stay if you’re attending a race event at Donington Park -
- Alan (8/5): Helpful staff - The very helpful staff.
Easy parking.
Good location.
Dog friendly The narrow and steep staircase to our room; I have impaired mobility.
- becks (10/5): -
- Jean (7/5): Good fairly basic but clean & comfortable - Convenient location for being near to family who live in the village. The Inn is very close to East Midlands airport & there is a lot of aeroplane noise into the early hours. Bring ear plugs.
- Mark (6/5): -
- Caroline (6/5): - Staff were very friendly, very easy to access for my work. The breakfast was just ok, looked like it had been sat on the side for a while! The room was also just okay, clean enough, but looking a bit tired in places.
- Colin (10/5): good room hot shower good food friendly staff - Great location Nothing really
- David (8/5): Lovely place to stay and chill - Lovely location, reasonable priced, staff were really good and helpful, parking right outside your door. Definitely needs redecorating made the room look very shabby
- David (7/5): Good -
- Patrick (10/5): Another excellent stay at the Harding Arms - Excellent local pub with comfortable letting rooms in a motel style
Great Home cooked English fare on offer Not a lot
- Jayne (7/5): Good location and nice pub serving food. - Good location for circuit. Lovely pub, friendly staff and good food.
Plenty of parking. Rooms feel a little dated but they are refurbishing.
Bed was too soft but that a personal preference.
- Paul (8/5): Donington Wsbk stay - Good location Good food friendly staff NOTHING WRONG
- Colin (6/5): Pleasant - Food and staff were great Lots of ants comin under the door to our room
- Frank (3/5): Never again - Staff Noise & tiredness of place
- Fisher (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rosie (10/5): Cute little cottage rooms with friendly pub and restaurant on the doorstep! - The staff here are friendly and helpful, even remembered me from my one-night stay last year! They provide lovely meals (with great accommodation for vegetarians, like me) including dinner and breakfast.
The pub/restaurant is lovely and the locals are friendly and good-natured - even though us Festival go-ers come and disturb their peace every year!
The rooms are super cute, twin room with a homely vibe and it's like having a little cottage with your own front door. You can also park your car right outside if you want to. They come equipped with tea/coffee making facilities, storage, and a fridge which was a bonus given that I was planning to be camping for 5 days after this and I could keep my fruit and Babybels cold for a bit longer.
Location was fantastic for Download Festival, only a few mins from Melbourne Town which has free parking and some sweet cafes and shops. Only wee niggles: the mirror placement was to the side of the desk and too far away from sockets to be able to use the mirror while styling hair/doing make-up (without moving it wholesale). Also, it would be handy to have hairdryers you could borrow but I was bringing my straighteners anyway so one more appliance isn't a massive deal.
The room was a bit cold initially and I couldn't work out how to get the radiator to come on, but once in bed I was plenty cosy!
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Maria (8/5): Very good -
- Denise (9/5): Superb -
- Alicja (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice you get exactly what described and the staff are so lovely and welcoming :) super clean and cozy room plus very close to donington park.
- Kerry (9/5): I liked my stay and want to return next year for download 🩷👌 - It was within a few miles to Donnington Park.
Friendly people. Happy to help and accommodate us. We would return again. Clean and well kept. Shower, water supply and kettle! Nice big bed. Just what we needed. Cooked breakfast available if you want it, which was good food and we had a meal on first night which was also lovely and served quick.
Close to village with local shops. We would return.
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Gary (8/5): Very good -
- Alan (8/5): Comfortable - Did not take breakfast! Litter bins not emptied other than that very happy.
- Patrick (10/5): Excellent stay once again - Excellent Pub
Great Staff Nothing
- Gerald (9/5): Superb - Full English breakfast cooked to order. Good size room. Comfortable bed
- Paul (8/5): Ideal accommodation for sailing event at Staunton Harold reservoir - Good English breakfast thank you
- Tom (9/5): Great little getaway 😃 - Lovely, friendly hosts and staff. Great bar with a good selection in a village location just outside of the town centre. Room was very clean with good quality linen, pillows and towels. Would definitely stay again. Perfect for a night away with ample parking and private entrance to the accommodation seperate from the main pub. Nice breakfast in the morning. The matres could do with updating, but this could just be my preference.
- Anthony (10/5): Really enjoyed our short stay - Room was the perfect size - just what we needed
- Colin (7/5): Great for a night but quite pricey for the standard of accommodation. - Location great for Donington park circuit. It was a little tired. Needed some repairs and updating.
- David (7/5): Good -
- Julie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Pete (5/5): Passable -
- Ann (8/5): Very good -
- Antonia (9/5): Wonderful stay in an interesting property - We had a wonderful stay here. The hosts were fabulous, the food (lunch and breakfast) was delicious and plentiful. The location is ideal for exploring the local area. The rooms were lovely, rustic beams and flagstone floor. Comfy bed and pillows. Could park right outside our room.
- Ronald (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicky (5/5): Passable - Staff were friendly, polite and courteous. Locality was great.
Room was clean.
Food in the pub was reasonably priced.
Great locality for Donnington park. Bathroom smelt of sewage, bed was uncomfortable and in the morning we had no hot water ,though this was rectified during our breakfast.
This is just somewhere to stay overnight, not as a holiday destination as the room is adequate but a little tired.
- Dawn (8/5): Perfect for what we needed - The location is great particularly if attending race day at Donington Park. It is quiet. The staff are very friendly and keen to help. Easy check in and check out process. The mattresses are very soft and for us not very comfortable.
- Jo (9/5): Great find/location/accommodation/outside seating/food & welcoming owners & friendly locals - Great find with very nice individual accommodation separate to the pub.
Amazing mushrooms at breakfast. Only able to stay one night this time but will be back
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely place perfect for Donington park.food delicious, and breakfast perfect.carolyn and martin really friendly and nice to chat with them.perfect.😁 Nothing
- Dave (10/5): Idylic Location, Beautiful Property - The location is absolutely perfect for us. We had business at Donington Park Racetrack. The Hardinge is 4 minutes and 2 roads away.
The Room was exacltly as we expected, not too big, not too small. (and not attached to the pub) Towels and toiletries supplied.
Staff were very friendly and attentive. The breakfast was lovely. (Can't beat a bit of black pudding) My only very very slight niggle was, there were no biscuits with the tea making facilities.
Not even a niggle really..................just my preference.
- Graham (7/5): Good -
- Harriet (9/5): Superb -
- Debbie (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (7/5): Very convenient - Location perfect for early flight from east Midlands airport Room could do with a refurb but I understand that's in the pipeline

- Carol (7/5): Good - Warm welcome with cosy bedrooms. Disappointing breakfast, did not expect cooked breakfast to be served immediately we sat down!
I'm dairy intolerant so rather surprised non dairy milk was not offered, as I had advised you of all of my intolerances on arrival!
- Claire (9/5): Superb -
- Ian (8/5): Friendly, convenient and good value. -
