- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place but needs thorough cleaning under bed - Quiet place in beautifully restored farmstead. Convenient to Freeport town. Our upstairs rooms were nicely decorated and comfortable. Breakfast was self with plenty of options. However check in instructions were incorrect with wrong key pad combo for our two rooms. And in both rooms, with high poster beds, underneath the beds needed a thorough cleaning. Socks under one bed, a few other personal items under the other room’s bed plus dust bunnies.
- GN62 (8/5): Cute Little Place - The Orchard House is a cute little spot just above Freeport and also proximate to Brunswick. Quick drive to restaurants. Not a walkable location. Inn has only a handful of rooms in an intimate, renovated 1840 house and is next to its own public ice cream parlor. It's smart, but basic. Sort of Swedish minimal farmhouse. Decent baths. Cold breakfast is very simple, but fresh and sufficient for a fast start. In good shape for a nine year-old operation. Slight highway noise, but I-295 isn't viewable. Fine for a one or two night stay.

- kduffy12 (10/5): Amazing Place to Stay - This was by far our favorite place we stayed during our family vacation. I would 100% go back. The rooms were not only clean but gorgeous and comfy. The breakfast was simple but perfect; even our three year old ate like a champ. Bill is so nice and so was everyone else with whom we interacted. The grounds are visually beautiful too. Being attached to an ice cream shop was also so much fun! I can’t wait to go back.

- jennifertG2180QZ (10/5): Very nice small Inn - We visit the area (at least) twice a year and prefer non-hotel stays, especially old houses like this one. Just minutes from downtown Freeport, it has a clean farmhouse style and a lovely yard and garden. We stayed in the Library King room—comfortable bed and a good night's sleep. The continental breakfast was nicely presented with real dishes, and guests can use the dining and living rooms. My husband prefers flatter pillows and wishes that option were available. There was minor traffic noise due to the nearby highway. Overall a nice stay.

- Kerry (10/5): - This is the second time I've stayed here. It's a very charming, old house with tastefully decorated, comfortable rooms. The continental breakfast is very good and served in a cute and cozy dining room. The bed was a bit hard for me, but I'm pretty picky. Just a few minutes drive to the outlet stores and restaurants in town, but far enough away that it's nice and quiet.
- Sofia (8/5): - Orchard House was very calm, relaxing, clean, and cozy; however, I would not consider it a typical bed and breakfast in a sense that there isn’t a home-cooked breakfast in the morning. They do provide granola and boiled eggs and a very small table with four seat seats, but it’s clear that most people including us go out to eat breakfast which isn’t necessarily a bad thing as there is plenty to do in the area just not what I’m typically used to.

We stayed in a room with a library of books which would have been wonderful to read if we had more time. Breakfast was fresh and good. This is about a 5 minute drive to shops and restaurants. The town of Freeport was such a wonderful surprise. Good Chinese restaurant (China Rose) and fun LL Bean campus. I would recommend including a hand towel in the bathroom, and updating the shower, and making sure the conditioner/shampoo is full. Note that the property is close to a busy road so you will hear cars going by. Definitely recommend this place!

Quiet and peaceful with extra comfy bed, delicious breakfast, and convenient to downtown Freeport. It was clean and fresh throughout, but the bathroom could have used a deep cleaning.

- Julie (6/5): - Coming in with the codes was easy... the stairs to the room were steep with bags, nit the best, there was water in room- good, but there was only a bed side table on one side and only power on one side of the bed- and the table was barely big enough for husband's C-pap machine- hard to charge my phone... bed too high. no hand towels. but biggest drag was that the cafe was under renovation and we really wanted a full breakfast. There was a poor selection of teas and no non-dairy milk options for the coffee. Place looked pretty but was a disappointment over all.

The inn is very quaint and cozy. Our breakfast was good with fresh yogurt, berries and granola. We appreciated the quiet location just a few minutes down the road from the L.L. Bean headquarters shopping area. The Italian restaurant near there is amazing.

The perfect blend of historical with modern amenities/fixture...Wonderful ambiance, convenient location, easy check-in/out, clear pride of ownership all were evident here. We had a great time exploring Freeport with the Orchard House as home base for a quick overnight getaway. And the mattress and pillows in the bookcase room: heavenly!!! It is rare for both my husband and I to sleep well while away from home, but we FINALLY found an excellent sleeping arrangement here. Thanks, we hope to visit again soon.

- Tasia (10/5): - We had an amazing stay at The Orchard House. The pictures do not do it justice. It is beautiful and special. We stayed in the Library Room. Very unique and spacious for 2 people. I am in love with the bed/mattress! The light breakfast served (coffee/tea, cereal, boiled eggs, juice, toast.etc) was perfect and a great way to start the day. The owner Bill (and his Mom Lynn owner of the vintage shop Folly) are fabulous. And the dogs, Bingo and Bay are the icing on the cake. Would definitely recommend! And we hope to come back in summer.

- huntandwander (8/5): Very nice but not perfect - Please note this review is from a visit 8 months ago so things might be different: Beautiful looking place with a very Chip and Jo Fixer Upper HGTV look to it. Back in April our room still smelled like fresh paint. We stayed in room 2. It and room 1 are right off the breakfast area. That might be different now if breakfast is now served elsewhere. We could definitely hear people having breakfast in the morning. The bed in room 2 is high but they have a step stool in the room to help you get into bed which was a nice touch. The view is of the front driveway. Tho it was nice I am giving the place 4 stars because, at least back in April, this b&b lacked some of the touches that else find in so many other places that we stay that are like it. For example, many b&bs will put out freshly made cookies in the afternoon for their guests. And I realize that they are being green by having bulk shampoo and soap dispensers in the shower, but there is no indication of what brand or kind it is. Makes it come off as if they just went to Costco and bought whatever was cheapest. If the toiletries are of a higher standard, a little sign in the bathroom saying what brand/kind they are would be nice. Most b&bs do provide upscale toiletries. And, at least at that point breakfast was lacking. Cold hard boiled eggs and unremarkable pastries. They didn't seem homemade but I could be wrong. However, again, a sign indicating that they were homemade or from a local bakery would have been nice. Otherwise, again, it made it felt like it could have been from a cheap supplier. It was a very nice basic place but just not putting in the extra touches that make other b&bs that we visit outstanding.
- tomomik (10/5): - This was a unique property and experience. We didn’t run into anyone at the property or interact with any staff. It was actually refreshing and fine for our purposes. The building was nicely renovated and since we both slept like a log after a long travel day, it was perfect.

- Verified traveler (6/5): - The decor was very attractive and it is convenient to two highways. They have self-check-in after 3 p.m. and as we arrived at night we didn’t see anybody else. This is convenient but would have been nice to ask about the area, etc. The walls were very thin and we could hear both sides of the phone conversation in the room across a narrow hallway. You could hear road traffic all night from 95 and route 1. Breakfast is minimal—no cooked food. Stain on the inside of the otherwise clean-looking white bedspread and on one of the pillow shams.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We never saw any of the staff, which can be a good thing sometimes, but the cameras in public areas were a bit disconcerting - to know you are being watched but never see anyone. Also, some additional attention to cleaning (dusting, etc) in our room and bathroom was needed. When your decor is mostly white, this is really noticeable. Otherwise, the property itself was gorgeous, the room was very nice, and the linens were excellent - a great night’s sleep!

What a reprieve from the bustling world outside. The inn was full during my stay, but you'd never know it. It was quiet and peaceful and everyone respected the hours. I loved the "no key" easy access and the morning buffet of beverages and breakfast treats. It was just enough to get the day going. Well-done!
- designerista (10/5): Second Visit and Not the Last! - This was my second visit to the Orchard House & Cafe. This time I stayed in Room 4, which is a Queen bedroom on the second floor. My first visit last summer was so incredible that I had to come back for another stay. The house hasn't changed much, but it was still a new experience. Always a clean and quiet space, lovely breakfast, and attention to even the most minor detail. Hoping to take the time in the future to try out all of the rooms and offerings of this fantastic place. It is convenient to Portland and Brunswick. Will be back again!

- JeremyKrantz (10/5): Incredible Bed & Breakfast - A Real Gem - My wife and I had an incredible stay at the Orchard House & Cafe over this past weekend. We found the place after some extensive research in the area and decided that the drive to Freeport was worth the overall savings we'd get versus staying in Portland in the summer, which is rather expensive. We found the place very easily and it was absolutely charming. The best part? They have a self-check-in policy, one that I had never seen anywhere else before. A few days before your stay you get information sent via text message which includes a pin for the front door, and another for your room. This means that once you arrive, you can get yourself right to your room very easily and with no assistance and without having to go through any paperwork or anything else. It worked flawlessly and made everything absolutely painless. Our room was in what seemed like a former library, with a big cozy king bed, a large bathroom and a decent amount of space. The place is charming and the decor is absolutely on point. Modern and yet cozy. The breakfast buffet in the common area featured plenty of delicious options including cereals, hard boiled eggs, fruit, juice and milk, and a few other snacks. The place is quiet and we very much look forward to returning at some point in the future. I cannot recommend this place enough.

- JCL4_jenny (10/5): Cozy B&B - We stayed at this relatively new and cozy B&B for 5 days and 4 nights this week. This is a beautiful property easily accessible from Freeport (5 min to downtown Freeport) and 20 min to Portland. With a family of four, adult kids we found room 5 to be cozy and comfortable, perfect size for our family, a king and two twin beds in a joint room... Breakfast is simple, continental with juice, coffee, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, toast, donuts, banana, blueberries, milk and tea. The home and property are kept immaculate, classy, and with the original farm house structures and pipes. We were the only ones here for two of the 4 nights and had the whole place to ourselves. We also got to meet Bill on our departing day and talked to him about his vision and phased renovation plan, very well thought... We fully enjoyed our stay, loved the location, coziness and layout of the B&B. This is a great place for family, couples who are looking for privacy and comfort. We frequently travel to Maine, Freeport and have always stayed at Harrassekket Inn the last 25 years. Now our kids are older we feel the typical hotel rooms can no longer accommodate our need. Hence we explored other options (was debating an Airbnb or B&B) and were glad that we found here. The only suggestion I would give is to have a small kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, sink so family can take out, have pizza, fast food or snacks here for convenience.
- Tiredtravel (6/5): A Beautiful Farm Chic Inn with much potential, Just need to iron out a few kinks - First off, the owner (s) clearly took some time and care in the renovation of this Inn. We were pleasantly surprised by the light, airy decor and cozy nature of the Inn. The keyless entry is nice and we did not encounter the Inn keeper at any time during our stay, which may be a positive to some desiring privacy. It appeared that we were the only guests present. Though, our excitement quickly grew to concern as we noticed a house fly in the bathroom. Not a big deal in typical circumstances you may say, but when its 5 degrees outside in November this clearly didn't originate from outside. Upon flushing our first victim, one of his comrades in battle quickly replaced him....and another. In all we eliminated 5 flies with another 4 on the ceiling when we left. On top of the flies humming around our ceiling, the room was EXTREMELY hot. Again, many might prefer a warmed room when the temps are so cold outside, but we couldn't sleep even WITH the windows open. I notified the innkeeper but the barrage of heat persisted throughout the night. Also, the nearby highway noise was now much more predominant with the open windows. (Note: the "field" view may also include a "highway" view.) The combination made for a rather restless evening, and I was disgusted to find I'd actually rolled over a fly while sleeping. Finally- and much less disturbing- the hallway light should be on a timer so guests don't have the light coming in around the doors. Tired eyed the next morning, we ate our hard boiled eggs and hit the road bound for Black Friday. In full disclosure we were offered a free upgrade to a downstairs king room prior to our stay but prefer an upstairs room as noise is often a concern in these older inns/ there was no mention of the fly or heat issue or we might have taken the offer! All minor kinks that may come with any older structure, but felt obligated to share with fellow travelers.

- Cara (8/5): Amazing stay - Amazing stay. Interiors were beautiful - Mykonos meets Maine! You do need to go 1 mile into Freeport to find dining options but nothing an Uber can’t fix :) we were staying with a bicycle and the owner was very accommodating of this. Would def return next time were up that way!
- designerista (10/5): Just 20 Minutes from Portland - So this B&B was an inspiration to my coastal Maine get away. I wish I had been able to stay more than one night, and next time will definitely make it a weekend here. Before my arrival, I received a text message and an email with self-check in/out instructions. I love it that the doors are programmed and coded, making it really nice if you cannot arrive during the preferred check-in timeframe. I stayed on the second floor, it was raining that night. It was really pleasant to sleep there, and the mattress was super cozy. I am really happy that I stayed here, even though it is located about 20 minutes north of Portland proper, definitely worth the driving time. The grounds are lovely, clean, and there is an orchard on the property in case you were wondering. Everything inside is adorable. Even the breakfast is adorable. The finishes in the room were fantastic and personalized, the shower was one of the best I have had away from home. Everything was really clean, and it was mostly quiet in the house. The breakfast was really nice, and there was a variety of yogurt, and cereal, some pastries, coffee, and juice. The tables were set and there is a guest book there too. Overall, definitely recommend, book a whole weekend if you can, and get a really good night's sleep.
- sdm371 (10/5): Lovely, charming inn! - Sadly, we only got to stay here for one night on our vacation along the Maine coast. I would have loved to spend more time here. The property is absolutely lovely both inside and out. We stayed in the downstairs king room, which is decorated with an entire wall of books behind the bed. As a librarian, it couldn't have been more perfect! The decor is fabulous and the room was spotless. The bed was very comfortable. The continental breakfast was a nice touch, and both of the common rooms downstairs (where we ate breakfast) were charming and beautifully appointed. If we ever make it back to Maine, we would most definitely choose to stay here again.

We can not thank him enough for helping us making this night memorable for the young couple. He went above and beyond. I can only imagine how excellent the service would be if we stayed at this B&B. I highly recommend this property.
- littlekatieashton (10/5): Stunningly beautiful inn - We stayed at the Orchard House & Cafe for only one night but it was brilliant. We arrived a little earlier than check-in as we were travelling down the coast but Bill was hugely welcoming, letting us check-in early. We stayed in the King Suite upstairs, which had an adjoining twin room perfect for our five year old son. The rooms (and the whole property) are immaculately decorated with beautiful character and style. Clearly Bill has put a lot of thought into the decor. Loved the key code entry for the inn and rooms (emailed in advance), meaning check-in is super easy and you have no keys to lose! Breakfast was very tasty and much appreciated when Bill told us it was served from 6.15am - we were leaving at 7am so hadn't expected to be able to eat beforehand! The location is ideal - quiet and rural - minutes from Freeport centre and shops - fantastic outlet stores to take advantage of. Also 25 mins from Portland. All other hotels I had seen in Portland or Freeport were either old-fashioned, characterless chains and/or obscenely expensive. This inn is worth every penny and was just what we needed.
- R8655EDrobertb (10/5): Wonderful place - This is a wonderful place to stay, and it is clearly a labor of love for the owner. Our room upstairs was amazing, and it was a lot of fun to chat with the other guests over breakfast in the morning. The room, and the entire property, were immaculate, and it was in a very convenient location. We visited on the hottest day of the summer (so far) and the air conditioning was fantastic. We only stayed one night, but would definitely come back for a longer stay.
- margarets8888 (10/5): Refreshingly Lovely - Individual in concept - from the “coyote” in the front garden, to the warm welcome by the hosts, the beautiful, clean and comfortable bedroom and bathroom, and the peaceful setting - this makes a very welcome change from the ubiquitous and characterless chain hotels in the area.
