Guest Reviews
- Nicole (10/5): - Lovely, affordable place to stay, particularly if you're looking for best comfort for value. Not a fancy high-end resort, but rooms are very comfortable, clean and well-designed (we were in the Grand Deluxe Bungalow), and staff are friendly and attentive. Bonus for the two cute resort puppies!
- John (10/5): - Great property with very helpful staff.
- Aliyah (10/5): - Loved the balcony area and the great food!
- Ian (6/5): - Ants! I had ants crawling all over my toothbrush. It would be nice if they could control the pests. Otherwise, the room was nice. Its located on a somewhat "low rent" district of Railay but nothing is far of a walk. Just be aware that you need to climb a few flights of stairs to get up there (53 steps). Luckily they have a handy funicular to carry your bags up. Reception hours are limited to 8a-8p so plan accordingly. Because it's on the east side you need to walk to the west side for sunset views. Also the beach on this side has a really impactful tide so at low tide its like a giant mud field and not very 'vibey'.
- Allison (10/5): - Great little bungalow for a few nights in Railay! Clean space. Wonderful staff.
- Connor (6/5): - The staff were nice! But the property is best fit for a very cheap stay for young people looking to explore or budget vacations.
I liked the place well enough however I didn’t expect the the massive flight of stairs you had to climb, the tiny shower, or the bungalow I stayed in to have holes you can see day light through. The pool is quite small too BUT the staff is great and all in all I never intended to stay a lot of time at the resort anyway. It was good enough to sleep in.
- Daniela (10/5): - Nice simple and cheap bungalows, with bathroom, aircondition, everything you need for few days. There was option have breakfast or you can eat lunch or dinner for few thb, staff was so nice, they did everything that you will feel happy.
- Clara (10/5): - Such a serene place, just generally just has the nicest relaxed antmosphere and the staff are so so sweet! The rooms are lovely and very clean. Probably one of my favourite places I have stayed at, can’t recommend enough. Love the rooftop balconies looking out to the mountain faces.
- Justice (10/5): - The best staff we’ve encountered so far in Thailand - such nice people! They were very accommodating for checking in and out as well. Their restaurant and dining area was wonderful to eat and hang out in. We loved the room, private and modern. All around would recommend!
- Rebecca (10/5): - Absolutely loved our stay here. Rooms were affordable, clean and quiet. Staff was amazing as well!
- andrew (10/5): - Staff were very helpful at all times. Good food, comfortable bed and good location, what more do you want.
- Logan (4/5): - The staff and restaurant were excellent. The rooms, however, were less than comfortable. While most beds in Thailand are hard, this hotel had the hardest by far. I was physically in pain from sleeping on them. Also, the mosquito nets and hammocks were so mildewed they were unusable. Lastly, my niece had a resident mouse in her room.
- Jeremy (10/5): - Excellent property! Would definitely stay here again. Clean, nice rooms, nice staff, great location.
- Vanessa (10/5): - I always love staying at Rapala. It's the only authentic bungalow you can find in Railay and also the cheapest accommodation you can find there. Railay is generally very expensive compared to the rest of Krabi so if you are on a budget this definitely is the place to stay especially if you want something more unique than a standard hotel room.
You get a hammock all to yourself on the balcony (almost no where else provides this in the area), the place even has a small swimming pool. The aircon room also comes with a kettle and coffee, soap and shampoo and a hair dryer. Pretty decent for what you pay.
Things to consider - it's a traditional bungalow set in a jungle like setting so, expect bugs. There is a relatively large staircase to get up to the place so it is not for the mobility challenged.
Will definitely be back.
- Katherine (10/5): - Very good place to stay. The staff is super friendly, the food is so good and the location is convenient.
- Nigel (6/5): - Convenient for Railay but way over prices for the standard of accommodation. It's backpackers standard but at hotel prices.
- Juan Axel (10/5): - Nice place really peaceful and walkable to downtown, awesome view
- Lee (10/5): - Second stay in 2 years and love it!!
- Richard (10/5): - Excellent hotel. It’s rustic with a lot of nature around and the rooms were separate from each other, which give you a lot of privacy. Room was clean and very comfortable. The restaurant’s food was amazing. The staff were really friendly and nice. The view from the restaurant was spectacular and very relaxing. We will definitely go back.
- Vivek (10/5): - Great place
- Thomas (8/5): - Nice enough simple rooms, friendly staff, facilities lacking! But a fair price for the area
- Kyia (10/5): Highly recommend! - Lovely place, lovely family. Very quiet! Very clean! A bit far from the main strip but the owner gave us a free ride to the ferry!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Had a great stay. The bungalow we stayed in looked as if it was newly built or renovated. The staff was very helpful. Will definitely be staying at rapala next time in railay.
- Lindsay (6/5): Unimpressed - We were excited to stay in a bungalow and thought it would be a romantic experience. However, it felt like we were camping outside. The non-flush toilet was definitely a surprise and hindrance since we paid extra for a private bathroom.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff went out of their way to help me get my luggage from the west beach ferry drop off. They have interesting wild squirrels, frogs, and monkeys. It is tucked into the side of the cliff with wonderful views!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We really liked in general. The staff was very friendly and lay back. They organised a cute free christmas dinner with games and presents.
The bungalow is good. And we loved to relax on the hammock after a busy day.
- zara (8/5): - Don't expect it to be a 5 star place but it was pleasant for the price. The bed is comfortable, bathrooms are clean. Check in was smooth, welcomed with a soft drink.
The stairs to the resort is a little bit tough with your luggage. Breakfast is ok at resort but I felt the whole beach had okish food everywhere.
Overall pleasant experience for what you pay for.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - When I booked this hotel, it had a 4-star rating and the pictures looked cute and homey. When we arrived, it looked like there was construction happening on several of the huts, so maybe this explains the discrepancy. The room was fine for the low price, though the light was extremely dim inside. For me there were two dealbreakers: the bathroom (toilet was flushed using a bucket of water, shower was just a head in the middle of the room with no tub, door or curtain) and the lack of a safe (it was recommended that we keep our valuables with us at all times rather than leave them in the room - which made me uncomfortable given that this is a beach town and we were planning to leave our bags on the beach while swimming). The lounge/restaurant and pool areas were really cute, but we ended up booking a different hotel in order to keep our wallets and passports secure. Location was all right - though it is technically on the beach, you can’t swim there. The better beaches are located on the other side of Railay, about a 20/25-minute walk away.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the chill out area and really loved the huts. Yes they’re basic but you’re staying in the jungle so what can you expect! People who leave bad reviews are obviously expecting 5 stars. I loved this place. Great food too and friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Rapala is easy walking to everything in Railay (as everything is). The staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed in the budget option which was fine although the (shared) bathrooms we're in need of a proper clean or renovation. There is a small pool to cool off in and a cozy restaurant on premise. Overall it was fair value for the cost.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quiet and comfortable bungalows. Staff are pleasant.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff was very personable, helpful, and inviting. They went out of their way on more than one occasion to make me feel like I was a special guest. On top of that, the location is great, the food was excellent, and the facilities were very comfortable. You could very easily waste away a day or more lounging around here, but don’t forget that paradise is waiting for you, just below!
- maria (6/5): Convenient to west Railay - We stayed in a fan room underneath a mosquito net. We only had one mosquito in the bathroom.
The son of the owner is very nice and speaks very good English.
There are termites in the wall, you heard them when you sleep, termites no bedbugs.
They provide drinkable water every day. Nice lounge/restaurant area to hung out.
Convenient to do the walk to west Railay, only 5 min.
- Mélanie (6/5): - Room without wc. Was tight but we expected it. WC/showers were fine. Restaurant is fair priced. Small swimming pool is appreciated. Langur monkeys coming down from trees before sunset was quite awesome. It's a bit of a climb up to the hotel. Noise level of the neighbourhood at night was reasonable for a good night sleep. The beach close to the hotel is a sewer (literally smells of it but hotel is way up the hill so it's a good thing!) so you will need to go to Railay West (7-10mins walk). Railay West, don't expect a quiet beach as the longtail boats keep on humming all day long uninterrupted. Ao Phra Nang Beach is quieter but you have to tourists come by boat to visit the cave. All the beaches on the west have shade.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Railay is expensive so in terms of Value Rapala is on the expensive side but is the cheapest bungalow you will find in the area. Termites and cold showers are things you just have to be ok with. Bar staff and owners Son are awesome. Some of the other front desk staff look kind if miserable and don't say hi back so dont bother being nice with them. The guy and the lady who clean the rooms are always really smiley and nice. All in all we love kt and have booked here now 6 times
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Rooms are basic but adequate and comfortable. They have screens on the windows which is great. Rooms seem a little over priced. We were disappointed that they charged us more to stay an extra night than for the other 5 nights we had stayed already - that’s didn’t seem right or sit well.
- Caitlyn (2/5): This place sucks!!! - Worst place I have ever paid money to stay at. Actually paid for 4 nights and could only bare 1 night and then booked another hotel down the street, for about $15 that was a 1000 % better, seriously! Literally TERMITES in the wood of the bungalow crawling right next to my ear. Toilet was instantly clogged after one use. Oh yeah, and ROOSTERS woke us up at 3am and wouldnt stop crowing throughout the morning!!! Lesson learned. Ask about 3am-10 am continous rooster alarm?
- mark a (10/5): Peace and tranquility - Great place to stay top value in railay. Good prices in restauraunt great food and portions nice family. Will return forsure
- Alicia (8/5): - Staff were friendly, accommodation was only a ten minute walk to the main restaurants and beach. The only downfall was the mattress and pillows were dirty and damp, but for the cheap price it is what you would expect really. Overall okay for a short stay.
- Collette (10/5): Great customer service - We were unable to change the dates on our booking when we decided to stay an extra night before we arrived so we ended up booking the extra night in a separate booking and emailing the hotel to let them know. The hotel was swift to reply and told us it would be no problem to have the same rooms over the duration of our stay, great customer service.
- Patricia (8/5): Sabai Sabai - I would go there again ! Good place !
- Steven (8/5): Nice Bungalow - Nice little spot on Railay. Cool bungalows, had one with AirCon that worked really really good. Bed is typical of thailand. Food wasnt very good. Gotta climb some stairs, just a room really, no breakfast included but hey you don't come to Railay to hang at a hotel, this place does the trick for the right price Lots of construction around, all around Railay.
- sue (10/5): Great hotel - Loved every minute at this place beautiful people
- Verified traveler (6/5): No flushing in toilets, bugs in walls - The place wouldnt of been sooo bad is it werent for 2 things. There were termites scratching through the wooden walls very loudly, you could literally hear them scratching the wood. The toilets do not flush, you have to pur water from a bucket in the bowl to flush. If you can deal with those 2 details than its not a bad stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great staff! - Staff could not have been nicer. Really great and accommodating. Beds were pretty uncomfortable. Just be ready for that. Try to get a room with AC.
- Thalita (2/5): Bad hotel - This hotel it’s horrible, usually the hotels clean the room every day, this hotel doesn’t clean or change the towels, the share bathroom it was very dirty. The comum area it’s dirty. The reception doesn’t understand us, because their English it’s very bad
- Kazza (8/5): Cute bungalows in a gorgeous setting - You get what you pay for and this place is cheap so don't expect luxury, however we really enjoyed our stay. The setting is lovely, up among the trees, with the front entrance to the 'resort' right on the waterfront at East Railay. Our bungalow porch had a view across trees to limestone cliffs and next door was the kitchen garden next door with chickens pecking around, very serene and relaxing. All the porches have good new hammocks.
The staff were really friendly and the reception staff speak good English.
The food at Rapala is really good, fast and cheap and there is a lovely outlook from the dining area across Railay East bay.
We needed an extra bed on the floor for a third person and this was done with no fuss; the reception worker who checked us in came back to the room afterwards with a refund and profuse apologies for overcharging for the extra bed; we hadn't even realised!
On the first day someone came and set up the mosquito nets for us while we were at dinner which was a nice extra touch for a cheap accommodation.
Towels are provided (but can't be used on the beach), however the shower-water is 'as it comes' from the mountain, so don't expect it to be hot.
The bed in our ensuite bungalow was HUGE and more comfortable than the more expensive places we stayed in Thailand.
- Karolina (10/5): Hidden cheap gem in Railey - Amazing stuff and very chilled vibe. Great value for money (cheap and good) Lots of mosquitos but it’s to be expected in the location.
- kerri (8/5): Beautiful helpful staff - Nice little bungalows.
Cant say enough good about the staff. My friend was sick and staff gave me hydrolytes and tablets to stop her vomiting. We told them we wanted to go to a waterhole and they gabe us valueable info on when to go with tides ect and looked up rental cars for us. They are a lively bunch of guys .
Only down side is in the wall we could hear a pest eating the wall. Unsure what it was. Also they dont have blankets instead they have large towels. And if you dont mind a cold shower id recommend staying. I would stay again.
- Alex (8/5): Nice place and great people - Stayed at Rapala for 3 nights and would’ve stayed way longer if I would’ve the time to stick around Railay Beach longer!
Own by a charming and warm family that knows how to help you around the best that they can.
Nice location, lovely place. The only problem is the same as half the place in thaïland, no hot shower. But, stil had a great time and would comeback anytime I’m around!
- Clare (6/5): Basic accommodation for a good price - The bungalow we stayed in was very basic, but this was what we were expecting. It did the job and we enjoyed our stay as it was the only reasonably priced accommodation we could find in the beautiful Railay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It's very basic, but the cheapest in Railay. The toilet is a manual flush, but there is a shower and we got a/c. Meals in restaurant are good and beer is cheap. Wifi is good.
- JD (10/5): - I absolutely loved Rapala Rock Wood Resort, and hope to visit again one day! It was an amazing value. I had my own little cabin with large bed (with net), and a front porch with a hammock. The common area is big, open, relaxing, and there's a partial view. The beer (especially), water, and food are all well-priced. This place isn't for every traveler, but it was a dream for me (solo traveler)! Also recommend the bar at the bottom entrance (unaffiliated). Railay East was way more chill and fun than the West, and you can still walk to any point easily. Things that may be difficult for regular to bougie folk: manual toilet, outdoor sounds, fan instead of air conditioning, a lot of stairs to get to the property, and not directly on a beach. All of these things were perfectly fine with me, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay!
- Ben (8/5): - Shared bathroom was pretty gross, but the room was nice. It’s the cheapest place in railay and you’re minutes to the beach. And the viewpoint lagoon hike.
- Steven (6/5): Rapala - We upgraded are room to an air condition bungalow . It was nice but the bed was supper uncomfortable ad they only give you what seems like a large towel as a blanket. Otherwise a decent place
