Guest Reviews
- Natalia (9/5): - Personal was really friendly and helpful. Food was amazing, water sport school was really helpful and well
organized. Hotel area and rooms were very clean. Not that we didn’t like it, but perhaps worth to note that for massages you need to pay in cash (prices are in euro) and massage therapist was male. Nearest ATM is in the village which is reachable by around 10min tuktuk drive. Also, you need to be comfortable with many insects around, but it is normal for Sri Lanka and room itself was very clean.
- Benjamin (8/5): -
- Steven (8/5): - The staff were really friendly and very helpful. A big thanks to Samanthe at the spa centre for the time of relax and lovely massages!
The location is great, definitely for water sports (windsurf and kitesurf) but having a personal mean of transportation (tuktuk or bike) helps a lot to get around to the nearby fisherman village. There is a nice pool. Although it's a nice place, the breakfast option is quite limited and the facilities could use some updating, especially the rooms. But if something is not ok, it is advised to communicate with the staff cause they will do their best to solve the issue.
- Lisa (6/5): - Freundliches Personal.

- Sergio (10/5): - I spent 5 wonderful days at the resort mainly for kitesurfing in the amazing spots nearby. The whole experience was relaxing and very comfortable. The staff were incredibly helpful and always ready to support with any request, which made everything so easy for me. The location is perfect for kite lovers: you can either enjoy the lagoon right in front of the resort or take a boat trip to Vella Island for a fantastic downwind session in shallow waters. Highly recommended! I liked everything
- Hannah (8/5): Wonderful family-friendly resort with helpful, friendly staff. Lovely communal social space. - Pool area was lovely, staff were really friendly (Nalika especially was so helpful in organising trips for us, and the barman at the kite surfing resort was lovely!), the breakfast, and the coffee was good - the first time in 3weeks in Sri Lanka to have good coffee!
Kite surfing instructors were really good. Great to have family rooms set up for families of 5! Lunch and dinner only served at the kite surfing resort, and the restaurant was a fairly uninspiring building, inside and out (but the food was delicious and excellent!). The pool bar only sold soda and beer - if you wanted anything else you had to go to the kite surfing resort which involved a 5min walk in full sun. If you wanted lunch or dinner somewhere other than the hotel it was a tuk tuk journey away.
There was no fridge facilities to keep food or drinks cold. While there was a kettle and cups there was no actual tea/coffee/milk in the room!
If you don’t kite surf there is not much to do here except sit by the pool. Kalpitiya town has a Dutch fort but not much else!
- Nicolas (7/5): - Very friendly staff. You have to order the food prior.
- M R M (10/5): -
- hal (10/5): A great stay - Beautiful pool, excellent location and place to learn kitesurfing, very helpful staff
- Robin (3/5): You’d be better coming for the water sports and staying elsewhere - Good location for windsurfing and kite surfing. Basically everything else. Massively overpriced. Sub-standard accommodation. Inattentive staff.
- Marvin (10/5): Nice place great people - The pool wash really nice staff couldn’t do enough Rooms could have had a little more to them didn’t seem to get any hot water
- Claudio (7/5): Friendly staff and good wind - The staff was amazing! Rooms were clean and AC worked well. Pool was nice. Dinner is way to expensive at 15 euros. The buffet is alright and the kitchen team is doing a great job but normally we paid about half of that for similar meals.
The rental gear for windsurfing and wingfoiling also was a bit disappointing for us, especially compared to the marketing on the website.
- Nicholas (9/5): Amazing experience - All the staff were very welcoming and attentive, always asking if we needed anything and were ok. The rooms were clean and aircon was very good. Plenty selection of food for breakfast.
We enjoyed that the instructors that lived in the resort joined us at dinner so if you were a solo traveler you would not be on your own.
The Barman was amazing and always making the best cocktails.
The location for the kiting was good, with a short boat ride over the other side of lagoon. Really good set up with their own little hut to store kit and get out the sun if needed.
Our instructors yassine and suji were very professional and were patient and keen to get you riding so you got the most of your time. They had their own safety boat which were always on standby if you got into trouble.
Overall an amazing experience just too short but would definitely recommend to anyone. Nothing really but maybe if there were some bicycles to use as part of resort you can explore more of the local area.
- Torben (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was super nice. The Surf instructior and the rest of the crew are super nice. Very nice spot for Kite and Windsurfing. Bring your own stuff if you want to have good windsurf equipment. They have everything for a quick session. Kitesurf Equipment is new and everything there. We will come back on February 🫶
- Amila (10/5): Exceptional - The place and staff are very friendly and care well always behind and help to all the guests there was.
Thank you one's again and hope to see you. There aren't nothing not like
- Adnan (6/5): A confused place, trying to upgrade to be five star but lacking in execution - The location; the staff; the pool Smelly bedsheets, pillows and mattresses
- Karaziwan (10/5): Great place, great value for money, I highly recommend ! - I have spent 2 weeks in Sri Lanka and I was the first 5 days in Da Silva. I loved it ! You can find more fancy/luxuxry place in Sri Lanka, but honestly you should try Da Silva cause it's more friendly though.
The staff was great and the nature was amazing, I feel it was more relaxed than other fancier place in Sri Lanka.
To be honest in the beginning we chose Da Silva cause it was cheaper than other places, but in the end we truly loved it cause we really felt at home there. I highly recommend, especially if you want to kite surf there (don't trust the weather forecast, most days they say you can't kite, but in the end the wind is better than expected) nothing in particular.
everything was great
- Apollonia (7/5): Nice place to relax - The place of the resort is nice, lots of plam trees, sweet and small room, everyone has their own little space in front of the room. The pool is big and clean, the staff is really nice and friendly! During the dinner and breakfast, the drinking water is free. The breakfast buffet is quite good and offers a small range of Sri Lankan foods and many western options.
As we didn't do the water sports, we relaxed, enjoyed the pool, played some table tennis and badminton, which was nice! After 3 days we were fine to leave, as there are not many things to do outside of the resort.
We heard, that the place tries to help the village and the locals around, but we don't know how exactly - but that's a very nice thing!
We had our complaints, but we are happy that the staff took them seriously and changed some things. Thank you for that! There some things we were not happy about, especially considering the high price.
First, we didn't know that there are two separate resorts: One with the pool and breakfast area (expensive), one more rustical and cheaper one (wind resort) where you find the restaurant and the bar. The photos of the more expensive palm resort show both places which was confusing to us.
We booked a double room at Palm resort, but we got two separate beds moved together which was not that comfortable. As we told that the manager, she explained that it's because of the booking: no double room was actually available for the time we booked, but they wanted to rent that room to us, unfortunately without telling us. We replied that it is still not the room we booked and payed for. Good point: we could move to a double bed room, still the beginning was weird.
At the restaurant you have the choice between a 15$ (a day and per person) lunch and dinner buffet, or choosing from the menu. The prices are okay and the taste too, but we expected a bit more of the local foods.
None of our rooms had a bathtub (we didn't need it, but still it was mentioned on booking 😅).
- Tara (6/5): Lovely staff, good location for kiting but fell short on a few things - Great swimming pool. One of the best in the area.
There’s a table tennis table and pool table which is enjoyable for the evening.
Staff were so lovely and welcoming. They really made the place!
Very good Moscow mule at the kite centre bar. Friendly atmosphere too. Strange setup for food and drink. Breakfast is served at the hotel but lunch, dinner and drinks are only accessible at their kite centre (about 250m from hotel). This isn’t a big deal (particularly for the kiters), but did feel odd given the pool area has a nice bar but no one is ever there to serve. Food was variable in quality. There are much better locations at far better prices a short tuctuc away. Recommend Sandy Edge and Mama’s Here.
WiFi is only available at reception or kite school. This is good to help to disconnect, but can be annoying if wanting to quickly research something from the room or pool area. If working remotely, this hotel wouldn’t suit. The WiFi can also be a bit temperamental if more than 4 people are using at the same time - I believe this is a problem across Kalpitiya though, not just this hotel.
Pricing for the spa treatments made no sense. EUR 25 for a 30 minute head/foot massage but then EUR 30 for a 60 min full body massage. Whilst the therapist was sweet, he didn’t appear to be formally trained and was also a bar tender and other roles for the hotel. In my view, if a hotel offers spa services, they should have a specialist available (whether that’s internal specialist or external contact).
Their water pricing also made zero sense. The environmental sentiment is correct, where you buy a glass bottle upon arrival and the refill at their refill stations. However, the glass bottle was no where near big enough, was expensive to begin with and then they charge EUR 2 a day for unlimited refills. Bear in mind a 1.5L plastic bottle is rs.160. We ended up buying plastic bottles because their pricing was crazy but then got charged the EUR 2 per day each at the end anyway. We sadly didn’t realise they did this until we departed the facility.
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional - Clean spacious rooms, lovely well kept grounds and pool, the food was delicious, amazing and helpful staff, great set up in general - very social you meet lots of people, convenient location for kiting right next to the lagoon. You have everything you need on site that you don't need to leave!
- Valerie (9/5): Superb - We spent 6 nights in this resort as non-kite surfers. Overall, this is a beautifully-kept resort with what is probably the best pool in Kalpitiya. The room was comfortable, with AC but no fridge. Daily cleaning was available if required. A buffet breakfast with eggs cooked to order was served at the property while lunch/dinner and the bar were at the sister property 3-4 minutes walk away. We were really impressed by the staff who were all friendly, helpful and hard-working. There was a good atmosphere in the resort. Note that outings to the oceanfront or Kalpitiya town require a tuktuk ride unless you are happy doing a longish walk in the heat. The evening meals were a little variable in quality.
- Denis (8/5): Very good -
(7/5): Good - Basic level room, beautiful and large pool. The place is clean and well maintained.
- Mohideen (8/5): Very good -
- Elena (10/5): Exceptional - We absolutely loved our stay! The staff was extremely helpful, welcoming and really made sure that all of our needs were met. The location is also perfect. You are right in front of the lagoon so you can always check out the wind conditions for your upcoming kitesurfing session and enjoy a beautiful sunset view. They offer great kite classes with very knowledgeable instructors, provide modern and top notch gear and the whole crew will make sure you have a good kitesurfing experience.
The food was also delicious and lunch was always ready for us as soon as we came back from the water.
Nalika, Saffris and everyone else on the team, thank you for making our stay so beautiful! Will definitely come back.
- Kana (6/5): Pleasant - Restaurant was far from the staying place. Also there were very few staffs and was difficult to contact.
- Eugenia (6/5): Disappointed with the installations - - Charming hotel staff. Very attentive and kind
- Very close access to the beach
- Free service of a boat that takes you to the spot where you can do kitesurfing/ windsurfing - Very dark and small room. Daylight hardly enters. In the photos it looks much prettier than it is.
- Very poor room furniture. There is not even a chair to put things down, a fridge (you will need it to cool the water since they do not sell bottles), etc
- Towels and sheets very old, frayed and with a musty smell
- They do not let you rent t-shirts or wetsuits, you have to buy them (note: the lagoon has some plants that cause allergies, so it is highly recommended to cover your body)
- You cannot buy a bottle of water. It is a great gesture that they give it to you free water (you can fill it with the “big bottles “ that are in the hotel). However, these “big bottles” are kept in a room in the open air at 32 degrees, so they are not the most optimal conditions. Also the water tastes quite strange (like stagnant).
- If you pay by card they charge you an additional 3%
- Zuidhoek (9/5): I really enjoyed my stay at De Silva. Good location for kitesurfing, great facilities and excellent service from the sta -
- Gal (9/5): Great fun - The stuff are so nice and do everything to make my stay great!
The AC room are super and the pool is a big plus!
The atmosphere was so cool and relaxing The wind was not great… but can’t blame the stuff…)
The kite instructor don’t have radio so once you are surfing you are alone
- Jihad (8/5): Great value for money, and very nice and helpful people - Great people, very kind and super helpful at any time.
Great pool, and the nature was beautiful. The location was a little bit isolated.
- Urban (9/5): Superb -
- Dennis (8/5): Very nice Hotel, beautiful ambiance def recommending it for Kite surf families. - I would say one of the best Hotels in Kalpitiya. We stayed 18 days with a family of 5 (3 kids 3,10,11 years old). We stayed in the Family rooms. Its hard to judge Hotels post covid, or with the current crisis in Srilanka. The hotel was well maintained and the Staff were super friendly. Nalika on the Reception was lovely and always very helpful, as well as the Staff in the Restaurant. The Food was local and healthy. (Kids had different options available) A boat to the kite beach is available two times a day, as well as Kitesurflessons and Material for rent. Kamal who was driving the boat was super friendly and just wonderful also with our youngest daughter. We hired a babysitter during the time we were there. (no English speaking but a pair of eyes on my youngest was important for us, so we could Kitesurf together).
With no wind Upul suggested different options (wakeboarding, excursions, pool, Massage) and the pool was very refreshing with regular Coconuts. All together Wonderfull place. We have been one of the only guests among with a few others. All the meals were served in the other hotel. (300 meters walk). At times I found it very challenging to walk with my 3 year old back and forward. For my older Kids there was no issue.
The wind was challenging (Summer wind direction) especially for beginners, very gusty and not suitable for kids to learn.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Small room with bad bathroom - The best thing about this hotel is the service from chef, barman and kitchen staffs. The swimming pool is clean and good size. The checked in was very slow as the staff did not know of our arrival. The room we got is definitely NOT worth 91 dollars per night for sure. Very small, very very basic ,no television, no fridge, no internet, no tea/ coffee. Ok that I can bear. The mirror is so filthy like it has never been cleaned for years. The worst is the shower, it did not function well, we had to unscrew and shower from the pipe. Water did not drain and clog on the floor. There is no separation between wet and dry area, so it is dangerous to use the hair drier which unfortunately is fixed on the wall of the bathroom. The faucet is about to come off. There is no amenities except 2 toilet rolls. The 2nd day, no make up room. We asked to settle the bill as the next day we had to leave at 4:30 am., after asking 4-5 times and one hour of waiting, the bill finally settled. We came back to our room and about to sleep, suddenly someone came and asked us to pay for our rooms which we have paid through hotels.com already. The atmosphere of the hotel is nice and relaxing but Please do not position yourself as 3 stars hotel when the room is merely like only one star and the owner are not professional enough as a hotelier.
- Voncke (10/5): - We stayed a couple of days, as a family (2 kids), at the De Silva resort to learn kitesurfing. Friendly, helpful, family friendly, and fun staff. Up to date windsurf, and kitesurf equipment, and expert instructors. We also met the friendly owners Kathy and Upul (former Sri Lankan windsurf champion), who created this little watersports paradise. We stayed in the non-AC cabanas, very clean, and everything you need for a hang loose surf vacation (they also have AC-room when you prefer that). Many thanks for a wonderful time!
