Guest Reviews
- Kate (10/5): Brilliant start to our holiday! - Breakfast was amazing, the best we had in Mexico. The children loved the cenote style pool and would have happily played in it all day. The people that run Villa Morena are lovely and made our stay perfect.
- Bart (10/5): Zalig verblijf, erg aangename eigenaars.
- Isabelle (9/5): -
- Marília (8/5): Descanso no meio da natureza - Simpatia Localização
- Ben (10/5): One of our favourite places we’ve ever stayed at - Beautiful cabaña, we loved relaxing in the hammocks on the porch, overlooking the amazing pool, whilst the kids splashed about. Lovely food, really good pastas, the breakfasts are delicious. And Vanessa is an amazing host! Would highly recommend. Nothing we didn’t like.
- virginie (10/5): -
- Julie (10/5): We loved the place. - Food was great. Lovely setting. Great pool, long enough for laps.
- Eva (10/5): - An absolute gem in the middle of the jungle. Thank you Vanessa and family for an unforgettable stay in your hotel. Everything was perfect - beautiful, calm surroundings, hospitality and kindness of the staff, privacy, excellent breakfast and dinner. We checked in late and they kindly waited for us, left meals for us in the fridge, advised us on trips, we felt very welcome. The bungalow is super comfortable, you can hear birds singing in the morning as there are no glasses in the windows, there is a little kitchen with everything you need and great smelling toiletries in the bathroom. No AC which we liked and definitely did not need it in February. The pool is so pretty, there are toys and playground for the kids and you can enjoy peace and calmness. I hope we can come back one day!
- Joanna (8/5): -
- Dina (10/5): - A little oasis in the middle of the jungle. Loved every part of our stay. Vanessa and her family could not be more welcoming. Knowing our preferred breakfast each morning to offering us great information of places to visit leading to some magical (hidden) places, to the incredible (Italian) food from their origins. Had the best gnocchi I’ve EVER had (melt in your mouth!). Highly recommend this place for anyone who wants a compete nervous system reset in beautiful surrounds with amazing food.
- Patrik (10/5): - Superschöner Bungalow(Casa Cactus) und sehr stilvoll und hübsch ausgestattet. Bequemes breites Bett.

- Toller Service, sehr nettes Personal, saubere Zimmer, leckeres Essen, familienfreundliche Villa & Anwesen.
- Patrik (10/5): - Idylicke byvanie v bungalovoch v dzungli, namiesto okenic sietky v oknach, ziadna vrciaca klimatizacia. Personal je velmi mily a vsetko jedlo a pitie ktore pripravuju je extremne chutne. Do tohto hotela sa urcite chystame znova!
- Sophie (9/5): Beautiful, peaceful hotel in the middle of nature. Vanessa is a wonderful, warm host. Note that you definitely need a ca - Beautifully designed, spacious room with small kitchenette. Vanessa was a wonderful host. The wifi connection was not always reliable, but this is to be expected given the location in the jungle.
- Andrea (9/5): - Piscina e struttura splendide.
Colazione molto buona e abbondante.
Adatto anche a famiglie con bambini. WiFi non prende benissimo in alcune aree.
- Tiphaine (10/5): - We had a great time at Villa Morena ! Everybody working here is very friendly, professional and kind.
The place is very secluded so you feel secure and in a piece of paradise just for yourself!
You'll get great breakfast ( even to go in the morning if you leave early/ thanks again for this !),great homemade food in the evening della nonna ( you just have to book ahead). We can only recommend ! We liked everything, just be aware you'll need a car to move around from here and you might see a jaguar at night ( we only saw videos of it ) . We wish we would have had the luck to see it from our cabaña , but I guess it was going other places during our stay ;)!
- Susan (10/5): -
- Malda (9/5): Very comfortable hotel with a lovely eco atmosphere - The hotel is run by a very kind family. You have an exceptional welcome and hosting as if you were at home. They are very attentive to details. They provide healthy and tasty food, and all facilities meet a high-quality standard. The hotel is in the middle of nature, you can perfectly escape a hot day or extreme sun by being under the shade of trees covering the whole surrounding space. We had an interesting exchange and talk with the family owning the hotel as well as with other hotel residents. The road to the hotel from the highway is not paved. There is around 1-1.5 KM of challenging road for small cars.
- Veerle (8/5): Very very beautiful jungle stay!! - It is very beautiful and the host family is the most friendly. The breakfast is just amazing (best on our full trip) and the dinner was also super nice. The houses are cute and spacious and have everything you need. Some nice beds at the “cenote” pool and paradise is complete.
The road to the lodge is very very bumpy so we just stayed in as we were not eager to drive it more times than absolutely necessary. Also we found akumal beach not great. If you can do groceries before you arrive, I would advise to do so! There is quite a large fridge in the house and you can have breakfast and dinner at the lodge. Personally I do not like blankets on the bed that are not in a cover. Don’t expect complete silence here: quite close to the main road still. There are bugs and insects (duh) and I am quite scared for them so probably not the best decision from me to stay here 😂😛. If you are afraid this is not the place.
- Alexander (10/5): -
- Eline (9/5): Fantastisch - Super leuke plek. Perfect voor gezinnen. Fantastisch zwembad. Leuke huisjes, mooi en sfeervol. Hele lieve gastvrouw. Lekker eten, goede service. Geen airco dus wel warm binnen. Wel goede ventilatoren.
- Álvaro Andrés (10/5): -
- Jaroslav (10/5): Exceptional - Staff, breakfast, pool.
- Tanya (10/5): Incredible hotel - a must! - What an incredible honour to stay in this beautiful hotel - it was more like staying with friends. It was so peaceful, serene, impressive and special. The family made us feel so at home. Nothing was a bother. The food was delicious and we felt immediately at home, to enjoy the space as if it were ours for the duration of our stay. I'd love to return one day and stay for longer. Nothing. It was perfect
- Bart (10/5): Paradise in the middle of nature - This was paradise! We loved staying in this beautiful place and felt really welcome because the amazing host. Highly recommended
- Olga (10/5): Paradise stay away from the crowds - Villa Morena rescued our stay on this side of Mexico - it is complete opposite to the massive all-inclusive hotels on the other side of the road. The cabanas are great and very well equipped; breakfast is delicious and healthy. You can hear a lot of birds and other animals around when you relax at the pool. We also loved the dinner, especially the carbonara!
Vanessa and the whole family were kind to give us so many tips: where to rent the car, where to park it to access the beach easily, what to do around when the weather was windy and cloudy. If you are looking for a very laid-back atmosphere, appreciate the details and effort made in creating a beautiful and sustainable space, we would recommend Villa Morena 100%.
I'd recommend renting a car to move around easily. N/A
- Alexandre (10/5): Relax in the nature - Nice relaxing little oasis in the middle of nature. Very friendly staff and clean room. Would come back.
- Kjk (10/5): Tranquil, jungle stay! - Lovely place, ran by a lovely family. Felt like 5-star service. Food, drinks - yum! A very tranquil end to 4 weeks of travelling in Mexico. AC would have been nice at night, but luckily it was breezy enough when we were there.
- Brett (10/5): Amazing, special place that is a must visit - It felt special and was very relaxing. Nothing!
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional - We had a wonderful stay with our family. What a nice people and what a beautiful place, absolutely recommend!
- Tim (10/5): Relaxed, peaceful, accommodating get away - It’s remoteness Nothing. It was all wonderful
- Alastair (10/5): Fabulous , highly recommend - Small , relaxed , great food , owner staff couldn’t do enough for you. Felt much more personal than large chains . All good
- Filippo (9/5): Superb -
- Tomislav (10/5): Sounds of nature - The best swimming pool ever, giving you a feeling to swim in a cenote.
Our daughter loved the breakfast.
Hosts are friendly and take care of every detail.
Beautiful place in a charming environment. Cabana nicely decorated and quite big. At night one can immerse in the sounds of nature - a beautiful feeling. The last kilometer to the hotel of the road is quite bumpy, but in general does not impact our wonderful stay. For this part of Mexico it is difficult to get to the beach, however the place has amazing pool to relax instead.
- Friedrich (10/5): An absolutely recommendable gem - What a wonderful place! Vanessa and her family are really nice and take care of everything you need. If you plan to visit Akumal or Tulum I’d totally recommend to stay here.
Thanks for everything!
- Raffaella (9/5): Superb -
- Trevor (9/5): Lovely setting, great host - Vanessa was an excellent host and super helpful. Slight traffic noise
- Crandall (10/5): Beautifully designed and maintained small hotel away from the crowds! - Breakfast (included in our rate) was excellent. The hotel is literally in the Yucatan jungle and is well laid out. The villas were arranged around a beautiful pool with privacy for each villa. The rooms were large and well appointed with espresso coffee machines, a large bathroom, jacuzzi tubs (outdoors) and the veranda had its own lounge and shade areas.
I also really loved the design of both the rooms and the hotel itself. Simple yet luxurious. The opposite of a stay in the city. Just what we had been hoping for. You have to drive slowly on the gravel road leading to the hotel. Finding the turnoff the first time requires some care- best to check in when it's light if possible.
- Frank (10/5): Peace and quiet with a unique experience - A real slice of heaven. A small operation with 6 cabanas, but all the better for it. The family makes sure you do not need for anything, they offer the freshest breakfast, dinner and cocktails you can imagine and total peace and quiet. Everything we wanted.
- Birgit (10/5): And the award goes to.... Villa Morena! - The very warm welcome with all the kind persons running the place and everything looks even better than on the pictures. Never had such a clean accommodation with an intact and efficient mosquito net in the middle of the jungle. Wonderful garden, nice colourful details everywhere, the pool is amazing with so many options to sit and explore, the organic soap smells incredibly good, we ate every day there for dinner as the menu and the cocktails were so diverse and just excellent! Best breakfast as well with yoghurt, fresh fruit, you can choose either eggs or avocado toas with tomato....My favorite place was the hammock where I could watch the birds, dogs and cats. Thank you for caring so much and answering all our questions and for making our stay so special. There is nothing they could do any better. Yes, you need a car, but from this remote, quiet place you have all options to visit cenotes, Akumal playa, Coba, Tulum or even Cozumel for a day trip.
- Karl (10/5): Beautiful place with exceptional staff running it - Very well maintained property that is beautiful and unique. They also serve delicious food for their dinner and breakfast options. Staff is also extremely accommodating and willing to help
- Vadim (10/5): We choose this place to spend few days and love it very much! We will stay longer next time. - Excellent breakfast, pool and surroundings are very relaxing, dinner is very testy, and you feel love of home cooking. Difficult find something to say, "we did not like it".
- Lucie (10/5): Lovely place to rest in nature - Peaceful place in the nature. Rooms were confortable and private, nice breakfast and friendly staff. The restaurant of the hotel is very tasty as well.
- Sanny (10/5): I would love to just live here always. Such a great vibe. - The Villa Morena was a wonderful surprise! All the staff and especially Vanessa were amazing! The food was so fresh! Homemade pasta for dinner was really a highlight for me. Make sure if you are interested in street art to go into Akumal and walk around. A couple of good coffee shops there and roasting lunch smelled delicious. Also book a massage that is given right on your private patio! Nothing could have been better.
- Maurits (10/5): Exceptional - beautiful style and area,great food & staff
- Benjamin (10/5): Exceptional - Villa Morena was a very beautiful place, very clean and well maintained. The cabanas, gardens and vegetation were beautiful. Very nice and welcoming hosts. Breakfasts were delicious with lots of fruits and freshly made juices. Situated close to lots of attractions. We recommend this place.
Mélissa, Benjamin and family
- Cansu (9/5): Superb -
- Jagvir (10/5): Exceptional -
- Francesca (10/5): Stunningly beautiful location, with marvellous hosts! - We loved everything about this place, the location, the layout. Everything! And they are green and „eco“ friendly in everything they do. The property is absolutely stunning, an ideal place if you need a break from your everyday life! They served the best breakfast we had in Mexico, dinners were great too. Everybody is friendly and helpful. We wish we could have stayed longer. We loved everything.
- Alicia (10/5): Magical - The grounds are absolutely beautiful , lush and green with beautiful butterflies everywhere . The pool was natural. Vanessa and her family made everything so comfortable and easy Absolutely Nothing. It’s a beautiful and peaceful space away from the hustle of life.
- Ricardo (10/5): perfect place and hosts - everything was perfect, they even helped us and gave us a ride to the city and another time for bus
- Katrina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Patrycja (10/5): Excellent time, worth spending every penny. - Home-made breakfasts were delicious and prepared from fresh ingredients. Location is excellent, quiet and off-the-beaten track. There is also a lovely swimming pool to keep you refreshed. Room and bathroom of a very decent sizes. Well-kept and clean. The staff always remembered to make sure we were not missing any bath cosmetics, organic and very good quality. Towels exchanged every second day which was really nice. The staff were always ready to provide info which places to go to. The owner even took the effort to help to replace our punctured tyre. If you want you can also order dinners a la carte, just order in the morning during breakfast. When we were going on longer trips, the owners equipped us with boxes for our food and also offered to prepare some lunch for the road. I recommend it entirely to have great memories. Nothing comes to my mind.
- Frank (7/5): A nice stay! Some improvements are possible - The hotel ground looks great, in the middle of the jungle. The bed was comfortable. The staff is extremely friendly and the food is great. And we could loan two bikes. Our main issue was the huge amount of mosquitos. We visited in August, during the rain season. The mosquitos were able to enter our room, it would be better if it could be sealed of. The shower did not have warm water.
- Marta (10/5): Oasis of pleasure in nature - A wonderful place, immersed in nature, relaxing and peaceful, yet not far from Akumal and Tulum. The cabanas are equipped with everything you might need, tastefully furnished with a beautiful common area and pool where you can relax. The hosts are very kind and provided us with very useful information. It turned out to be a pleasant experience! It's a pity we couldn't stay longer, highly recommended! Nothing
- Thomas (10/5): Relaxing resort experience with a personal touch - Vanessa is an excellent host, the resort is very well run and kept. It is quiet, and the atmosphere is very relaxing yet family friendly. A nice breakfast is included and dinner is available by request. The beach, the lagoon, the town, and a Super Chedraui are all nearby. The whole experience was wonderful.
- Laurent (9/5): Pleasant stay in a beautiful, remote resort - Natural environment & friendliness of the owners /
- Fleur (9/5): Superb - We stayed here with our 2 young boys and absolutely loved it! The family that run it are amazing, the food they serve at night and breakfast is delicious (and homemade) and they are very kind. Inside our lodge we had everything we need and thanks to 2 big fans it was not too hot. Amazing swimming pool as well. So overall highly recommended!
- Johanna (10/5): Best place to start our holiday! - Great place for our family with a 1.5 year old. She loved the playing area and the pool, and even got two new grandmothers! Resulting in a very relaxed time for us. You should have a car when staying here. Only fans in the rooms, but was fine for us.
- Lorenzo (10/5): Very kind family with excellent hospitality - The hosts are adorable, one of the kindest people I've ever met. They do anything with a smile. It was great being surrounded by nature, hearing the animals when going asleep and waking up. Breakfast was excellent. Great swimming pool. Loved our stay at Villa Morena.
- Maja-cæcilie (9/5): Very beautiful and pleasant stay. - Beautiful and clean cabanas. Very helpful and attentive hosts. Beautiful garden with exotic birds and nice pool. Very nice breakfast and food ala carte. Be sure to have a car if you want to get anywhere. However the host family was sweet to drive to the main road where we could catch the collectivo.

- Ciprian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Suzanne (9/5): Very beautiful setting, like living in nature - I loved the beauty of the property itself and the feeling of being in a more secluded, jungle-like, natural environment! The lagoon pool was lovely and refreshing, even deep enough in parts to dive. It's a very serene, relaxing, quiet environment as others have said. My cabana/bungalow was lovely. The hosts/owners, Vanessa and Manuel, were exceptionally kind to me, even offering short rides for me given that I was alone and without a rental car. This is a family-run, low-key resort -- it was a pleasure getting to know their children too. I even played ping-pong and games in the pool with them! Vanessa recommended the Akumal Bay Beach to me as well (warm/easy to swim in water located at a nature preserve called Tsuuk Akumal Parque Natural - note, there is an entrance fee) and a beach bar/restaurant called Loi-Ha. If you go, try the fish tacos - made with grouper - fantastic! For me, not having a rental car did make my stay more difficult. Since I was only a 1 night stay, it was manageable. The resort is about a 10-15 minute walk from the main highway, along a fairly rough road - gravelly and rocky in spots. I took a taxi from my previous hotel in another location to the Villa Morena. To get to the Akumal beach, I walked to the highway and flagged down a colectivo (like a public bus, but really a van). Very safe, no issues, short ride, cost $2 USD). To get back to Villa Morena, Manuel kindly gave me a ride as it was convenient to where his daughter attends her after-school program. (Note: The only reason I gave 4 stars for Facilities instead of 5 was that the ceiling fan in my cabana didn't work due to a previous guest accidentally breaking the remote. There was a stand-up room fan in the room, so I was fine comfort-wise. But I prefer a ceiling fan, as the stand-up fan was just a little too loud for my taste, relative to sleeping.)
- Dale (10/5): We loved the jungle and all the plants - Everything! Nothing
- Olchowka-barlas (10/5): Me and my 11year old son loved it. We stayed there for 7nights. The pool was amazing, naps in the hammock, surrounded by - It was in the middle of a jungle !
- Carolyn (10/5): Wonderful quiet lovely family run oasis in the Mexican jungle. - Loved the whole spirit of the place. Food was excellent, people were so lovely, pool was a joy, just the whole atmosphere. Perfect for just being away from it all and away from the tourist throngs but still close enough to go the beach as desired ( with a car). oh a few mosquitoes but not really bad.
- Ana (10/5): A little paradise - Super nice staff, made you feel at home. Breakfast was just amazing. They gave us a bigger room and it was so nice, the room is really pretty and full of details, and was really clean and comfy despite being "in the middle of the jungle". Not a problem for us, but it's not convenient to stay there without a car.
- Brittonie (9/5): Great value for money and one of my fav places I’ve stayed - The room/individual huts are really spacious and well designed/equipped. We had a lovely bed with mosquito net with working sockets on either side and side tables. A fan. A kitchenette with a mini fridge. Water in a very attractive enamelled jug. Pretty bathroom sink, nice design for separating the shower and toilet. The ceilings are high which I think helped with channeling heat up and keeping the room cool. There was a swing in our room!
Our patio had a table with chairs and a hammock. The first day there I took an unplanned nap in the hammock for several hours. As an insomniac this just shows how instantly relaxed I was.
The grounds are nicely landscaped and regularly maintained.
The pool is a real winner in my book. It was designed to have a natural earthy rocky like structure with a mini water fall type thing, swings and different depths. The water is cool and refreshing and clean. There’s nice loungers tastefully presented with banana leaf umbrellas for those who like me aren’t made for full sun. Absolutely loved it.
There are a load of facilities for kids which looked cool and also sortof not in main view while being plentiful. I’m not a person who particularly enjoys holidays around kids but I do appreciate a place that can accommodate what looked like an impressive and fun array of kid stuff while also appealing to my grinchy self. A hard line to manage and this place does it.
The included breakfast was more generous and filled with options than anywhere else I’ve stayed in the yucatan peninsula. The staff are all very nice and went out of their way to help us a few times. Would absolutely recommend this place
And I really loved the tree by our room This isn’t a property issue as much as my feelings on the area. I had read snorkelling in akumal was the spot for turtles. Ooofffff I do not like that whole set up they have going on there at the beach at all. I wouldnt go back to akumal or recomend it to anyone. However if you want a chill pretty place to relax and enjoy a holiday in a glam glamPing eco spot come here. I would come back to this place just to enjoy the people here, the rooms and awesome pool.
They do have bikes to borrow which I had thought about borrowing to cruise to the beach but you have to cross the major road /highway and I felt a little intimidated by that. Not a problem with the place just a problem with my plan and comfort level
- Helen (10/5): Paradise - Very relaxing atmosphere in the jungle, cabana beautiful, comfortable beds, good sleep, excellent pool and places to chill. Very tranquil place. Staff exceptional, helpful, friendly. Great place to stay longer time than 3 days like we did, The only problem is getting around. Taxis are expensive and charge from every extra move you make, 500 pesos for 10 min drive to the beach. Would highly recommend car rent ( which I realised too late:)), lots of places to go to in the area- nature parks, adventure parks, cenotes. Breakfast at the property really good. Possible to have dinner, which is homemade, drinks during the day. Felt really cared for and would come back 100 percent!
