- Lintern (4/5): Poor value for money - The location is excellent. The breakfasts were also excellent. The hotel was very dog friendly. Our room in particular (nr 123) and the hotel in general felt very dated and in need of a major refurbishment. The cost of our stay felt very overpriced given the quality of our room. £20 per dog per night is extortionately expensive. Choice of evening meals are limited to a two course menu which at £34 per head (excluding drinks) again felt too limited and too expensive.

- Annie (6/5): Great location but needs updating - The breakfast was good. Our room was nicely decorated and was spacious. The terrace and gardens were beautiful with lovely sea views. Communal lounges were comfortable and nicely furnished and decorated. The games room was great if you have older children in your party. The location was amazing, a few minutes walk from the beach. The Bankes Pub a five minute drive away was good for meals. Our dog was made welcome, there is a nice woodland walk off the carpark to take them to for a short walk. We didn't use the spa facilities but the heated outdoor pool looked nice for warmer weather - lovely views. I was expecting a little more luxury for the price paid. Staff could have been more friendly. Views from our room over tarmacked flat roofs was unpleasant. The shower was blocked so we were unable to use it. We were only booked in for two nights so there wasn't time to have it repaired. There were adjoining doors to the rooms next door which did not have proper locks. Parts of the hotel were run down but other parts seem to have been refurbished. I would say book a room with a sea or garden view to be safe as these rooms seem to have been updated. It had a certain charm from a bygone era.

A £10 tip was added to our bill, which should be at our discretion. Drinks very expensive. Didn't realise that dogs were not allowed on beach off a lead from May, as this was why we came here

Unfortunately, the room I booked which I was under the impression it being one of the best rooms in the hotel, was extremely poor. I felt very hard done by having spent £750.00 for a three night stay. The room we had definitely did not warrant £250.00 a night. I booked a two bedroom room with a balcony. The 'Double bed' were two singles pushed together, which were probably the most uncomfortable nights sleep we've ever had. The decor was that of about 50 years ago. The balcony was a wooden slatted floor, half of which the paint had peeled off. The railings, along with the table and chairs were also covered in cobwebs. There was no mini fridge in the room, we also didn't locate a safe. What made this stay even more underwhelming, was the fact that the photos shown on the website, were absolutely nothing like reality. We were very much looking forward to the stay, from the photos, we were getting a £250.00 a night room. However, in reality, the room was more like a £100.00 a night and that's probably pushing it. The hotel itself and the grounds are need of a lot of restoration. Really disappointed.

Really loved the location. Room was on the small side, no hooks to hang clothes, no chairs. The bathroom door was odd and didn't fully close.

Big fluffy towels were lovely and good toiletries. Very surly barman on our first night, though other staff were lovely. Central heating was on full blast so way too hot especially in the upstairs corridor. Surprised that our room was not cleaned the first morning and shocked to find out from reception that you have to opt in to this! Whole place could do with an upgrade honestly.

- Sarah (10/5): My favourite place ❤️ - I adore this hotel. The location is just stunning. The hotel is not new it is full of character and charm but if you want shiny this is not the place for you. The outdoor pool was open and it was heated and lovely. We usually come in winter so this was a real treat. We also played tennis for the first time here and it was such fun. We did the beach horse ride from local Studland Trekking centre which was also awesome! And the sun shone all weekend.

Room was very comfortable, everything you need was provided. It was nice that you could stock up on tea/coffee/milk etc from the table in reception. Parts of the hotel do look a little tatty, but it didn't detract from an excellent stay and didn't bother us in the slightest. They've got everything else just right.

He was brilliant, very accommodating and made a mean Ameretto Sour ! The sauna and indoor pool are so run down and to be charged £10 to use them seems crazy

Some things really do need updating - the spa facilities, for example.

The atmosphere in the hotel very welcoming. The bathroom was quite small, but it is an older hotel and so you accept these issues. The hotel is very dated, but for me, this added to the charm. Lack of fresh fruit - Lids on hot food often left off reducing the heat of the cooked food on display. TV in room very small and remote VERY worn.
- Matthew (8/5): A quirky hotel in a fantastic area - This is a quirky hotel which in certain respects sends you back in time, in a good way. The location is fantastic. It's a short walk away from beautiful beaches and a short drive from Swanage. We loved the family friendly atmosphere. The comfortable and informal feel of the place. There seemed to be a lot of history associated with the place. Staff were friendly and everything was clean. Breakfast was excellent. We would definitely return. Nothing to add here. Enjoyed everything.

- Emily (5/5): A fabulous area of Purbeck where there's limited choice with regards to places to stay. - Lovely view - but we paid extra for that. Room was spacious but dated. Beds comfortable. Lots of friendly and helpful staff. Lots of comfortable communal spaces. We were there in winter, but I imagine that the big outdoor pool is lovely in the summer - probably a great place for a family holiday as the beach is a short walk away and there are lots of activities to enjoy when the weather gets better. Little extras that cost money that are not apparent on initial booking - e.g. to use the Jacuzzi was extra and overall very disappointing as not particularly hot and also the jacuzzi and plunge pool area are not very well maintained. Games room sounded fun on booking but when you get there you realise you have to pay extra to play air hockey or pool and although - the ping pong table was free there were bats but no balls! Hotel definitely in need of a revamp - very tired.

- peter (7/5): - The restaurant was excellent and the staff were very good. The location of the hotel was very good. The room had an excellent view. The bed was comfortable. The room was small and looking tired. One of the windows had old metal frames and cracked glass. The bathroom was very small and the TV was also small. The corridor carpets were starting to look worn on the stairs. The room furniture was very old and took up a lot of space with little gain.

- Jen (6/5): Good - Stunning location, lovely facilities, and helpful staff. I’ve stayed here twice now, the first time I got a courtyard room, which was massive and beautiful. The next time, I booked what I thought was the same room (but cost more), and was given a much smaller room within the main hotel – nowhere near as impressive, but comfortable.
- Laura (9/5): It’s like stepping back in time, a real treat! - I love it at knoll house, never disappoints. Its old world charm always delights. It’s a little worn around it edges but adds to the atmosphere. Great staff and excellent for the dogs.

Grounds are lovely and access to the beach so near. It tired and they are seeking to redevelop. Staff to a brilliant job in making the best of what they have. Hats off to them.
- Diane (8/5): Certainly would return. - Lovely friendly staff, always greeted with a smile. Location for walking was excellent. Bit diappointed by the food. Had to send back one meal. This was replaced without a quibble by an excellent salmon dish. Found the room stuffy, difficult to get flow through. Room clean but needed refurbishment.

- Nicholas (7/5): Enjoyed the break , but would have preferred a cleaner room - however the outside pool was brilliant - Swimming pool - enjoyable . Restaurant pleasant ; breakfast good . Staff were helpful and polite . The room was old , tired with a strange four poster bed , toilet paper stuffed in air vents , unable to close the shower screen and the carpet and floor covering in the bathroom were sticky and needed a wash .

Good basic facilities games room, spa, lovely outside pool, bar also nice and dog friendly. Loved our stay, we have always wanted to stay when in Dorset, this was our first time. Had a deal as often a little out of our price range. Loved it. Evening meal a bit pricey for us. Would probably have eating one evening if a good vegan option had been on the menu R
