Guest Reviews
- Piet (8/5): - What you see is what you get: a well-maintained historical hanok house in the countryside at a very reasonable price. Shared bathroom and toilets are of good quality and very clean. Friendly and available landlord. Not the perfect stay during winter or heavy rain. In these weather conditions you will have to stay in your small bedroom.
- D (8/5): Heel traditioneel zeer aardige host - Heel traditioneel Ontbijt was karig
- Azad (10/5): Comfortable, clean, good value. - Very well maintained and presented property.
Great host.
Traditional feel.
Modern amenities in a traditional package. Mattress could have been slightly thicker but not a deal-breaker at all.
- Charlotte (10/5): Historic and unique stay. Beautiful. - An amazing and historical property. Beautiful location, perfect for anyone craving the peace and quiet of the Korean countryside. Beautiful surroundings. Temple on your doorstep, along with multiple cute cafes.
Attentive owner. Thank you, Mr Lee!
- Tatyana (10/5): An unique experience - This is such a unique stay. It´s a really quite place next to a beautiful temple. The host is super friendly. I can only recommend to stay here a night to experience living in an old house.
- Anushri (10/5): Perfect Experience - Loved the experience. Mr Lee was so kind and caring. Really made my stay memorable. He prepared breakfast earlier in the morning so that I could leave on time! The location is amazing and you actually feel the history of the place. No complaints.
- MªTeresa (7/5): -
- Ken (9/5): Lovely. - Loved the experience, near temple and trails that surrounds the temple if you like hiking or trail running. Host is super helpful. You’ll need to take taxi if you don’t have a car but the host is arrange for you.
- christoffel (8/5): -
- A.E.M. (9/5): Traditional stay - Traditional house, quiet in the mountains. Kind owner who gave us tips for sightseeing and diner
- Agnieszka (10/5): Great stay, highly recommend picking this place. - My stay was absolutely brilliant and I wish I booked more than just one night. It is located a bit away from Andong but the village is very lovely and safe (keep in mind there are not many restaurants around though as it is a bit of a rural area). There is also a beautiful temple just 10min walk from the hanok.
Hanok is beautiful, very well kept and clean. Breakfast provided is rather basic but very tasty. The owner is absolutely fantastic, he can give you loads of tips what to see in Andong. If you have a chance to stay here, do it. Everything was spot on, no complaints.
- Splatters (10/5): - Incredible experience in a typical Korean house, the room was perfect and I liked it a lot. The bathroom is outside in another building, easy to reach. Nothing
- Luthy (8/5): -

- Suellen (10/5): - Great location, across from Buddhist temple.
Exceptional host - very welcoming and great suggestions for local activities
- Agata (10/5): - The view from the rooms was beautiful. Everything was clean, and communication with the host was excellent. I highly recommend this place.
- Christiaan (10/5): Nostalgic and Serene - This was a big highlight on our holiday even if it was a short stay. The host is a caring person who treated us like family. We had a bit of a tight schedule and he helped us planning a trip to Hahoe village. The next morning we had to leave early with the bus because the trains were full due to the celebration of Chuseok. He took care of the taxi so we could go on comfortably. The place is brilliant and you can feel a serene vibe, like a good spirit is cuddling the place. I would really recommend it for anyone who loves culture and nature. Everything was just how it should be. Ofcourse the futon mattress is thin. But that is just like it has always been in an old Korean town, pure nostalgia!
- Sabrina (10/5): Absolutely amazing - I've been through back time N/a
- Sarah (10/5): Amazing. Thankyou Mr Lee for opening up your family home and for all the good suggestions and transport help. - Staying in an 140 year old hanok was a bucket list experience I didn't know I needed. Rustic, charming, authentic and peaceful.
- Florence (9/5): -
- Jordan (10/5): Beautiful, warm and welcoming. - Beautiful historical preservation in a charming location in the mountains. The surroundings were tranquil, the house felt like home, and the hospitality was warm. I was quite comfortable sleeping on the floor on a thin mat, but for others this may be difficult or impossible.
- Aurelie (8/5): -
- Alexandre (8/5): -
- MANGIAROTTA (8/5): -
- lionel (10/5): Stay in a real Korean traditional house - Nothing to do with a « normal » hotel. This is a traditional Korean house, and everything is as it was 100 years ago (except air conditioning 😊)
A journey through time ! The staff is very nice and helpful. Location a walking distance from Bonjeongsa temple. Very quite. Being a traditional house no private bathroom. And if you need a mattress to western standard to sleep, forget the place. But trying the traditional Korean futon is worth it !
- Rita (8/5): -
- Danielle (10/5): - A true South Korean jewel, a journey back in time. Outstanding experience for lovers of authenticity. Host impeccable!
- Anne-catherine (9/5): Really great stay and very friendly host - Great location in typical and traditional house
- Liene (10/5): Exceptional -
- Keith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Archana (10/5): Unique experience in a traditional home - The place is a very unique experience. The owner is most kind and treats you like a guest, caring for your comfort and unique requests. My kids loved the natural surroundings and the floor beds. Breakfast is very sparse for the price(pieces of bread with cheese, pieces of apple, and coffee or juice), and the bathroom is shared by all guests.
- Pierre (10/5): Traditional accommodation in the heart of nature highly recommended - Traditional accommodation highly recommended.
- Charming and pleasant setting
- Very warm welcome
- Simple but perfect breakfast
- In the heart of nature
- We were 2 adults and 2 children and everyone loved it
- Sabina (9/5): Nice Hanok stay - A great place to experience a traditional hanok stay. The friendly host is the 3rd generation living in this Hanok, he actually lives there! It rained when we stayed, it felt cozy hear the rain from inside.
- Katarina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (10/5): The highlight of my trip - I could not recommend highly enough. Wonderful host, beautiful surroundings, and the most relaxing stay. Two of the best nights’ sleep I have ever had. The host made sure I had everything I needed, planned an itinerary for me, and ensured I had a taxi to get me back to the station for an early morning train. Most other guests were in cars but I easily did the trip on public transport (trains, local buses and two taxis).
- Anaritza (10/5): - Nice traditional house and super host!
- Sian (10/5): A beautiful experience of traditional Korea - highly recommended! - This was one of my favourite stays during my trip to Korea. The property is beautiful, and transports you back in time with the aesthetic but also provides modern comforts to make the stay easy and relaxing. Jukheon’s host is very helpful, kind and knowledgeable as his family have owned the property for 140 years. Andong is a great town and i found the buses and taxis easy to navigate. It snowed during my stay and it made the feeling even more magical. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to experience traditional Korea. Nothing - my stay was great.
- Yonah (10/5): Exceptional - Best experience in Korea ! We felt at home and peaceful in this beautiful house. Thank you for all the recommendations and for the very kind taxi driver who spent all day long with us.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really nice experience, definitely recommend !
- Patrick (10/5): A great real traditional Hanok experience - A really well maintained traditional Hanok. Fantastic look. A great experience. Our room, the family room, was spacious consisting of three parts including a ‘living room’. Breakfast (simple but ok) can be served in the yard of the property. The shared bathrooms include 2 women’s bathrooms and one men’s bathroom. Great host.
- David (10/5): A place full of magic and history! - This place is unique. it’s in experience to remember. We loved every minute very well received by our host. We Recommend it very much.
- Gabriel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennifer (10/5): the area was beautiful, air was fresh, chickens clucking in the morning and birds chirping. Grea - Everything was wonderful, the host took great care of us, especially for us not speaking any Korean, he arranged a full day with taxi to accompany us to different places to go and eat. The last day he arranged the ride to the train station with a couple stops before hand. Fantastic little stay, would highly recommend this place! No complaints,
- Gary (10/5): An unique experience with a very considerate and helpful host - Unique 140 year old traditional Korean house in a peaceful rural setting very near to the Bongjeongsa Temple Nil
- Fiona (9/5): Sleeping to the sounds of nature - Nice to experience a night in a traditional Hanok. Despite the mattress being very thin (i.e. hard) I slept well and woke up refreshed to the sounds of nature surrounding us. The location is a bit tricky if you don't have your own car. The restaurants around are all closed at night.
- Caro (9/5): Exceptionnal traditional Korean house with amazing host! - Exceptionnal ancient traditional Hanok. Feels unreal to stay in a place that saw so many souls before! Charming atmosphere in the calm countryside, with a beautiful temple closeby.
The owner is absolutely adorable, kind, helpful, will give you advice and explanations on the region. He prepares a delicious breakfast just for you. Many thanks to him for being so kind to us! With such an old building, of course it can be expected that the rooms are not the most comfortable. But you don't come here for the good night sleep!
The bathrooms are also outside of the rooms, but are very well equipped, so there is still some comfort.
- Vincent (8/5): Very good -
- Manuel (10/5): Not to miss! - The traditional style, the kindness of the owner, the beauty of the environment.
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Valérie (10/5): A real traditional experience, with an amazing guest - The guest is so nice, a lot of good advices. I really apprwciated is support for my visit The noise of the chicken near the house at 4h AM
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mylem (8/5): A relaxing getaway with lovely hospitality - The house is located in a peaceful and very quiet part of the mountain amongst farming land. It's a nice area if you want to unwind from the city and experience old style accommodation. Getting there is easy by bus or taxi, about 15 - 20 mins. We particularly enjoyed taking the bus route downtown as we got to meet the locals along the way and enjoy the scenery. The house is far away from shops and restaurants, so be sure to plan your meal times in advance. Mr Lee was very welcoming and accommodating. We were lucky to experience the place on a sunny day and also a rainy one, each time it was tranquil and cosy.
- Tracy (9/5): Traditional hanok with a history - It was a very quaint and traditional hanok in the mountains. Very peaceful surroundings away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The location is quite inaccessible. Since public transport is non-existent, it's necessary to drive or take a cab everywhere.
- Ida (9/5): Superb -
- Lana (9/5): Amazing for a short stay - The host is fantastic, he spoke great English and gave me recommendations on my itinerary, as well as help with the bus schedule. The house is beautiful, and the stay felt more like staying at someone's home than a hotel If you're looking for luxury this probably isn't for you, and if you don't have a car (like I didn't) then you'll probably need to take a taxi a few times since buses are only a few times a day (obviously this is not the fault of the owner)
- Family (10/5): Excellent! The best experience. - Location is very good. It has the view of the scenic mountain. The back drop trees are dramatic. There’s an area where we played. It’s so pristine.
I like the traditional house experience.
But it’s not suited for elderlies because of has only one bathroom and the path is cobble stone.
The owner is very accommodating. He is helpful. He served good breakfast with toast and fruits. There’s a certain scent or incense that triggers my allergies. I don’t know where it comes from but the scent lingered all through out the night.
- Pierre (8/5): Very good - The situation was good : in the countryside and close to the touristic villages.
The man who welcomed us was nice and give us good advices. We had a great experience. And the hanok met our expectations !
- Sarra (10/5): I wish we could have stayed longer - Everything about this property was fantastic. The host, the location up in the mountain, the authentic experience, etc.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - Very kind and sociable host. Helped us call taxis whenever we needed one! Very well maintained property, and definitely a great experience. We stayed when the weather was quite cold, but the rooms remained warm.
- Aleksandra (9/5): Superb - Really nice host and an amazing place to experience. Highly recommended.
- Luís (10/5): Exceptional -
- Agnes (8/5): Very good -
- Samita (9/5): Lovely traditional house to stay! -
- Julie (9/5): A wonderful traditional house set in the countryside - This is a traditional house in the true sense and you get to experience the real deal including sleeping on mats on the floor. The house is set in the countryside and Mr Lee is a lovely welcoming host. There is currently only 1 bathroom/toilet/wet room that services all 4 rooms so you need to share. Currently a new bathroom is being built and should be finished before the end of the year or maybe sooner.
There are lots of steps and uneven surfaces that need to be navigated to get to your room and in and out of the house. If you have knee or back issues then you might need to seriously consider if you can stay here.
- Inlo (10/5): Exceptional - I was already calm reaching through the serene roadways that we travelled to reach here and then felt so peaceful at this culturally sustained exotic piece of tradition for over 400 years.
The owner was so helpful like i had read from the previous reviews and no matter watever time one can have here u can make the most of it because I am sure the owner and the people of this village just like it's wonderful nature has the magic to do so. So please include this in ur itinerary for South korea.
- Tommaso (8/5): Very good -
- Kallie (10/5): Exceptional and beautiful traditional stay in Andong - It was in a beautiful setting in a very rural town, 15min taxi ride from the Andong train station. The futon sleep is not for everyone but to try and embrace the traditional style and culture, this place was amazing. More than anything, I really loved the hospitality of mr Lee. He is such a treasure. The shared bathroom amongst the guests but he is in the middle of building more soon. The futon sleep is not for everyone so please be prepared to embrace it for the experience
- Puise (9/5): Superb -
- Sally (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful house. The owner was lovely and very helpful, organizing taxis to take us to see all the sights we wanted to see. He welcomed us on arrival and waved us off as we left. I highly recommend staying at this house for a true Korean experience.
- Martin (10/5): Great stay, nice host. -
- Andrea (9/5): Superb - Very friendly and well English speaking host who shares recommendations for the area. Close to main UNESCO sights, but recommend to have a car otherwise might be difficult to reach. Very clean rooms, even with air conditioning. Experience was nice to sleep in a traditional setting, exactly how it was described.
- Bakker (8/5): Very good - Very nice house, friendly and helpfull owner. Breakfast was also satisfactory.
- Corinna (9/5): Cozy night in a traditional corean house. - We are a family of 6 and occupied most of the rooms. The house is very cozy, each room has space for two and the luggage was in the living area. The rooms are separated by sliding doors. In the middle there is a courtyard, around which are also located the bathroom and the breakfast room. Everything was clean and the breakfast delicious. It is the house of the owners progenitors, that he did renovate and now rents out. As it was raining, we could not fully enjoy the stay. The place was out of the way, but we had a car, so for us no problem.
- Kermarrec (10/5): Exceptional -
- B (10/5): The stay was like stepping back in time, a perfect break from city life! - The property is a traditional house, well kept and the proprietor is friendly and helpful. The proprietor spoke English which was also a bonus. He provided a breakfast that included cheese toast, apple and honey cakes. We also had chrysanthemum tea. During daylight hours there is a bus that goes from Andong to the house. The mattresses were very traditional and firm, so possibly not suitable for someone who likes soft beds. .
