- Barbara (3/5): - Staff was very nice, rooms were clean. They did not tell us that the elevators were out and had been for months, when we booked the hotel and specifically asked for first floor rooms. We were given rooms on 2nd and 3rd floor and had to carry our 14 year old chocolate lab up and down the flight of stairs.
- stolenbuick (2/5): The elevators have not run for at least 2 months - The elevators have not run for at least 2 months since August 2025 and are still not running as of today, October 22, 2025. When you make a reservation, there is no mention or notification that you will be in a 4th floor room and must take the stairs. There are no email alerts or notification until the night before your stay or, in many cases, not until you arrive onsite to learn the elevators are not available. The staff says that the elevators will be down indefinitely and that there is no estimated date or timeline for when they will have the issue resolved. We highly recommend that you not make a reservation at this hotel without first confirming the elevators are running, or that you are guaranteed a room on the first floor. Even then, if you must stay at this location, we suggest that you have an alternative backup plan. Ideally, choose a different locally run Marriott by a different franchise group such as the Marriott SpringHill Suites Gallup down the road. They have much nicer rooms in far superior condition and the staff and services are much better. Keep in mind that this problem is with the franchise group (Medallion Hospitality) and not Marriott corporate for whom I have high praise. As a Lifetime Platinum member with nearly a 1,000 nights in dozens of countries, this would be the first and only time I've needed to write a negative review for a Marriott franchise. In general, I do not write negative reviews, but I am doing so now to warn others who may not be aware of the unethical practices by this hotel management group. They clearly are hopping you just show up and pay and use the stairs. That is not acceptable. I've filed complaints with Marriott corporate who is investigating, as well as the city of Gallup the New Mexico Attorney General's office and the BBB. If you run into this same problem and just leaning that this has been a long term issue and on going problem, please do the same and report and notify all of the above and post a review to help warn others.
- W5949FOjoel (6/5): Poorly managed and maintained - I stayed at this hotel a few months ago and the elevator was out of order, one of the doors did not work, and the cold water dispenser in the lobby was not working. I am staying here again and these items are still out of order. Unless you are staying on the first floor you'll have to walk some stairs. The hotel is nice enough, but they don't keep it maintained very well.

Poor rating is because - there is a lot of noise from the nearby railway (especially in the room we were in, 402) - the elevator/lift is out of order and expected to remain so for weeks - the WiFi coverage was poor (kept dropping out and then reconnecting) - maintenance is not being kept up (eg elevator broken, breakfast juice dispenser not working, shower/bath water diverter not fully switching all water, water-damaged door etc)
- galaxy4902 (2/5): Broken elevator, No forewarning - Upon arrival was notified by the front desk clerk who said “ I have some unfortunate news, we have no first floor rooms remaining for the night and our elevator is broken.” We were assigned a room on the fourth floor. I asked him if the service elevator was available and he said that one is broken too. As someone else wrote on here, if we were handicapped and couldn’t climb up or down stairs, that must be some sort of ADA violation. I asked the clerk why I wasn’t notified about the elevator when I made the reservations online instead of telling me after I arrived to check in that evening around 7:30pm. He looked at me with that look. After staying over 1600 nights at Marriott’s in my lifetime, this is certainly a first. I have apened a case with Marriott.
- timesharetraveler11 (2/5): Do not trust this hotel. You will have to walk up stairs. No elevator - I had a reservation and planned to stay two nights. I called a couple days before and was told the elevator is broken and there are no first floor rooms as they moved all "long terms" to first floor. I am handicapped and cannot walk stairs. The desk clerk told me she would have called me on check in day. Well that is just a bit late to scramble to find somewhere to sleep. I was lucky to have called two days ahead of time and could make other arragements. I called today and the elevator is still broken, so it has been broken from at least 8-26-2025 until 9-9-2025, and they are still accepting reservations. No warning about the elevator being broken. I think the hotel should be closed as they are in violation of federal ADA laws.
- Oldjack (6/5): Typical TownPlace suites - The Townplace Suites was to the east of the town of Gallup just off Interstate 40 and a typical Townplace Suites. The room was clean, the staff friendly, and sleep quality was fine. The breakfast was as expected and the car was intact and there the next morning. It met our needs for an overnight stop. Dining options around were limited .

Netflix connection and jacuzzi not working - After a long drive, we picked this place for the Netflix and jacuzzi it advertised they had on expedia. I regret not purchasing the extra protection insurance. Upon check in, internet was soo bad. We finally connected to Netflix and the movie came out pixelated and kept stopping in middle of movie to download 5-10 min worth of clip to watch. My husband had never seen such bad internet connection at a hotel. My husband tried to get tvs to connect for 45 min before we brought to hotel's attention. Then we were informed no one was around to come up. The front desk clerk later had the internet guy on her cell and came to our room and my husband was working with him to check tv connections. We were also told internet was bad throughout the hotel. So much for a relaxing evening! Eventually since it was taking too long to fix and for her to be away from front desk, she switched our rooms and moved a floor up but we checked tvs there before we moved our luggages. They seemed to work better. However the room smelled like cigarettes even tho this is a no smoking hotel. It turned out the Netflix was still running slow again but tvs were connected in other rooms. Other Bedroom tv in previous room was not even connected properly. Next day, Netflix was working good. Also got a call after I booked room earlier in the morning to verify if we needed anything such as extra towels since we were a group of 6. I thought that was such a nice thing of hotel to reach out however Upon arrival there were no extra towels. Next morning, a gentleman who worked there who I believed called me about the towels said Hope your having a good stay (ironic). I ended up picking up extra towels at front desk the night before. And another bummer was that The jacuzzi was also not working. I would call before booking this hotel if their internet and jacuzzi and pool are in good order before booking. We also chose this hotel since we read that Gallup has a high crime rate and this was away from downtown area. Overall the extra rooms and beds were comfortable. Also fyi, The 2 bedroom suites are only corner rooms. We thought maybe if we moved closer to middle of hotel internet connection would be better. Also I did notice upon initially setting up wifi on our cell phones that it did have a join free and if you are marriott bonvey member its free internet. I am a member but still had crappy internet. But also noticed a $4.95 a dayinternet connection u could select if you were not a Marriott Bonvoy member.

- chris (10/5): - I made the mistake of booking through Expedia. I checked the hotels website, and immediately found a lower price. Expedia is part of the same company as Hotels.com, who I used exclusively for years. I had saved up in rewards from several years of using their site, when it "disapeared". Hotels.com told me that I was lying when I tryed to seek justice.

- Lora (5/5): It worked, but I won’t stay at this “Hilton” chain, again. - The bed, sheets and coverlet seemed to clean. The staff was friendly and courteous. The bathroom seemed clean. The room did not have a microwave. Seriously? Either you can’t afford them or the typical clientele steals them. Regardless, it does not show well for the hotel. There was a man* outside, the night I arrived and when I left the next day. He offered to help me with my bags. I assumed he was hoping to help for tips. They were clearly not bellman as they wore street clothes. I’m pretty sure the gentleman who approached me in the morning worked there, not the gentleman who approached me the night prior. The one who approached me the night prior did not appear to work there. He just appeared to be loitering, while smoking and talking on the phone, trying to make tips. These attempts to help gave the hotel a “shady” feel. The carpet did not appear clean. I will not stay at this brand hotel again nor recommend to anyone else. It was not worth saving $50. *There were two different men.

Negative-One elevator working during our stay-which made a longer wait time, the pool was closed and looked like it has been closed for some time. This should be disclosured at booking especially when you plan on using this amenity.Breakfast was average and seemed sparce by the time we got there at 9 am, the plates they offered were paper, which made carrying your food difficult. We used the laundry facilities and had to pay double the drying time as our clothes were still wet after 1 cycle. Bathroom outside the bedrooms but great to have the sink with a door and another door to the toilet and shower. Kitchen was good as well. Couch bed wasn’t comfy but they never are. Each bedroom even had a small closet in them with 3 TV’s in the place. We would definitely stay here again when passing through Gallup!!

- Briggs (1/5): Poor service from the hotel and booking.com. - Received a call stating there was a water leak in our room and we would not be able to stay in that room. They were not willing to match the price and find us a room that would work. They would find us two rooms, but charge me an extra $179 on top of what I was charged for a suite, but again did not match our original reservations. I had also asked for a confirmation cancellation stating I would not be charged for the room or a cancellation fee. That never happened from the hotel, because I think the reservation was originally booked through a third party, booking.com. I will not be staying at that hotel or utilizing booking.com. again. Very dissatisfied with the service!

- Wadene (8/5): Just passing thru. - The hotel was nice and the room was comfortable. The hotel pool was not open and not advertised on the website. Would have been nice to know. Staff were nice during check in and check out. The noise from the train was a slight rumble throughout the night, but it never blew its horn, so that was nice. The road noise from I-40 was loud, especially starting about 4:00 am. We even had ear plugs in, so if you stay here, take a small sound machine to help drown out the noise. Breakfast was mediocre for a Marriott. Some kind of breakfast sandwich was offered, with waffles, oatmeal and the normal fruit, yogurt and danishes. Scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits, maybe gravy would have been nice and more filling. Hotel was very clean, and area was safe. We would stay here again with a sound machine for sleep.

- krisPa (10/5): Great hotel - We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite with sofa bed. Room is spacious and clean. I’ll address the obvious first. Gallup has a reputation for its high crime. This hotel is located on the east end of town away from homes and most businesses. There are 4 other hotels nearby plus a Dennys, bbq place and gas station. The location felt safe, security was not super obvious but they were patrolling. From my 3rd floor view I saw many pick up trucks with toolboxes and other items in the bed. 2 cars parked next to us had bikes in a bike rack. A few people had trailers with items strapped down. All in all it looked like a bunch of people doing what we were doing, just passing through. This hotel also only has 2 exterior doors you can access from the outside, the front lobby and one other door. All other exterior doors are locked from the outside. There is no where in America that is inherently safe, this place is no worse than anywhere else. Hot water was another frequent complaint about this hotel from others. We had 5 people and we all had hot water. Maybe it was a problem they fixed. I’m actually surprised at how low this hotel ranks on TA. I would absolutely stay there again.

- Virginia (6/5): Nice Pool - The hotel elevators smelled strongly of sewage. The bathroom toilet area was tiny difficult to enter and exit. The beds were uncomfortable. The window screen did not properly fit the window. Outside noise from trains and traffic is noticeable. The pool is warm and clean.

The bathroom was so tiny that any really heavy person would not be able to enter and closed the door without stepping into the tub. Beds were poorly made so the thin blankets had to be pulled out of the bottom of the bed. The window screen did not properly fit the window. WIFI was horrible. The pool is warm and clean. Seems that many of Marriott brand properties are severely understaffed.

- lindakerr8 (10/5): Our go to Marriott in Gallup - From the time we arrived we knew this be our go to hotel in Gallup! Kendall was warm and friendly and everything went great….pool and hot tub was sparkling! Exercise appears to be closed for awhile. Our room was immaculate, towels super soft and the shower had excellent pressure. Breakfast ladies were prepared and as welcoming as Kendall. Noticed lots of security patrolling the complex since our last stay…nice
- Douglas (8/5): - Rooms are tiny! TV is poorly placed. No regular coffee, just decaf, in the room. Staff, who were very friendly, said they had been out for a week. Walls are thin. Railroad on one side, highway on the other so noise all night. The friendly staff makes up for a lot of shortcomings of the property so I would stay there again. Skip Dennys and go into town to Jerry’s Cafe. New Mexican food to die for!

- Verified traveler (4/5): Miscommunication between Hotels.com & actual Hotel - I booked a one bedroom suite with Hotels.com but when arrived, I was told there were no more one bedroom suites to be had and townplace suites wasn’t sure why hotels.com let me book a one bedroom suite when none were available. Big miscommunication and definitely disappointing. Was told I couldn’t get a refund through towneplace suites that I would have to contact hotels.com so I am looking for a refund on the extra amount I paid for a one bedroom suite when that was not what I stayed in.
- jamesgQ7331ZJ (6/5): Think twice if you need an ADA room - Retired and I stay in about 25 hotels rooms a year and am ADA. Nice things were Netflix on TV, great heat and a mini kitchen. The bad things are the microwave is not full size like they say it is. Had to go ask for wash clothes and hand towels as they didn't leave them when they clean the room last. The shower chair is coming out of the wall, water from shower is going out of bathroom into hall. Soaps are on front wall of shower and if you are on that chair, you can't reach them. bathroom door opens right next to bed. Look at pictures.

- kwang (8/5): - The facility is a kind of new building. The room with small kitchen is convenient for me. Only I do not understand why they charged additional charge after check-out. I found this charge when I checked my credit card statement. When I asked the front desk clerk (lady) during the check-out process, she said "no charge"; I am holding the invoice showing no charge. I hope they correct it ASAP.

- InsaneRN (8/5): First overnight in Gallup, NM - We traveled from south Texas to see our granddaughter in a rodeo. The hotel had some pros and cons. Cons: First - The worst thing for us was the bed was very hard. Now I know this is a personal preference, but for us, we woke up aching and had a poor night's rest... Second - The swimming pool was closed. This left us with no swimming entertainment for our granddaughter which is a highlight of our visits. Pros: The best thing was we were treated wonderfully by the staff. They frequently went above and beyond to meet our needs. The cleaning staff was top notch and anticipated our needs. The front desk clerk, Audrey, was an angel and was quick to help us with our small problem. The vent/microwave was not working and she quickly followed me upstairs and fixed the problem. The breakfast is excellent, one I did not expect. One morning we had fried eggs, and the next scrambled. The variety of breakfast options was more than adequate. My wife and I were very pleased with the options of both cold and hot items. If it were not for the bed, I would return there in a heartbeat, so for those of you that like a firm bed this is the place for you!

They assigned us a room that we spent the night in, but they never checked us in and instead marked us “no show” so glad the room was not assigned a second time while we were the room. Staff was nice but did not know what they were doing.
